SEPTEMBER 30 2015
Hi Everyone
T
his week’s cover photo was taken at our local annual orchid show and features just some of the spectacular natural beauty that you find in the world of orchids. While I am in no way a gardener and the actual possibility of me keeping an orchid alive is reasonably low – I do have a definite enthusiasm for admiring them from a distance. However there are clearly plenty of local people who have the confidence and dedication to give Orchids a go, as when we went down to the Beerwah Hall just before lunch on the first day of the show - the orchid society had almost already sold out of plants. And while we weren’t there before opening time we heard the crowd outside was a bit like what a department store would expect on a Boxing Day Door buster Sale. So while on the same day the latest IPhone 6S was released in Australia to much excitement – it is good to see our natural world can generate as much desire to purchase as new technology does! Regards,

Beerwah NBN tower application inadequate Sunshine Coast Council have expressed serious concerns about the NBN Co wireless broadband tower proposal for Rupari Hill, adjacent to the water towers on the hill behind the Beerwah waste management facility at Beerwah.

In response to the Material Change of Use (MCU) application submitted by NBN Co to council last month to construct a 31m tower, council issued an ‘information request’ for a number of serious issues. Most concerning for council is the issue of visual impact caused by the height of the tower in an urban setting. Council have reinforced that a similar Telstra facility was restricted to 20m in height due to visual impacts, and at 31m the NBN Co tower application would most likely not be supported by council. This development would place the NBN Co plans in turmoil, as their application states that they would not be able to provide 'good/reliable service' with a lower height facility. Council also highlighted serious understatements of the environmental impact the tower construction would have on a number of listed vulnerable, threatened and endangered species and that the Ecological Assessment Report provided was inadequate. Council even went so far as to point out that clearly visible in the photos they submitted with the application, were growing a listed vulnerable tea-tree, Leptospermum luehmannii – an iconic species for the Glass House Mountains.
Photograph from the NBN Co development application showing the exact site of the proposed tower (red arrow), and also showing the vulnerable tea-tree, Leptospermum luehmannii Further to this, council noted that the NBN Co application significantly underestimated the amount of clearing of vegetation, which would include rare and threatened species, stating that the development would 'result in much greater clearing than claimed in this report.' From an engineering perspective, council have asked NBN to demonstrate that the development will not pose a landslip hazard, considering the steepness and instability of the site. Council also raised concerns about the strength and stability of the Tower Lane bridge being used by construction equipment to access the site, and for NBN Co to identify an alternative route. NBN Co have six months to respond or otherwise, the application lapses. NBN Co were contacted for their comment, but no response was given by the time the paper went to print.

Beerwah overpass almost open The new $80.7 million overpass at Bells Creek Road on the Bruce Highway at Beerwah is just about to open to traffic, boosting the region’s ability to accommodate future growth. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the fully Australian Governmentfunded project will improve the movement of freight vehicles and safety for all motorists between Caboolture and Caloundra. “The Bruce Highway is the key transport route between Brisbane and Cairns and the addition of this new overpass will greatly improve safety for local and highway traffic, accommodate future growth and improve connectivity between local communities,” Mr Truss said. Federal Member for Fisher Mal Brough said the new overpass will be open to traffic in coming days, with the project improving local infrastructure while supporting 127 jobs. “The Roys and Bells Interchange Upgrade project is one of four major interchange upgrades between Caboolture and Caloundra being funded through a $196 million Australian Government funding package,” Mr Brough said. “The new, two-lane overpass and interchange replaces the previous intersections at Roys Road and Bells Creek Road which had right-turn restrictions in place. “The removal of the old intersections will reduce the need for motorists to perform dangerous manoeuvres to enter the highway.
Green Park undergoes weed control work Conondale Memorial Sports & Recreation Reserve is having weed control work done on the weedy sporobolus grasses found on the land parcel and across other areas within the Sunshine Coast region. This includes non-chemical trials on small plots to assess land management options into the future. Interested landholders will be invited to a field day to discuss the results of the weedy sporobolus control work and consider options they may be able to undertake on their own properties. Stay tuned for further information in the coming months.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey with Member for Fisher, Mal Brough at the official opening of the Bells Creek Road overpass “The wider upgrade project also includes 4.5 kilometres of new pavement on the southbound lanes north of Coochin Creek, as well as resurfacing of Coochin Road between Bells Creek Road and Roys Road, delivering a safer driving experience for motorists. “Projects like this one underline the Australian Government’s commitment to delivering more prosperity through greater productivity, as well as a safer Bruce Highway.”

This great night of fun and free family entertainment requires a variety of people to assist with many tasks before, during and after the event. For those who like to work in the background, hardworking people are required to help erect and dismantle the stages and marquees. General hands, including stage attendants, are also needed. For those who like to mingle with the crowd, the committee needs raffle ticket sellers, ambassadors to assist with information and safety, and table attendants. Last year students from both Beerwah State High and Glasshouse Christian College were fabulous volunteering ambassadors for the event. It is planned that both schools will participate again this year. Judy Tomlinson, Celebrate Beerwah President says volunteering shows a love for community. “You always get back more than you give and it is a great way to meet people in your region,” she said. “Volunteers also get a free Celebrate Beerwah t-shirt, hat, food voucher and an invitation to the volunteer’s party.” Celebrate Beerwah Secretary Maree Anderson says there are some great reasons to put your hand up to volunteer. “The lovely part of volunteering for me is meeting people in the street you know and enjoy being with,” she said.
Debbie, Judy, Ilia, Robyn and Ana preparing for last year's street party The committee is also seeking a volunteer to help with communication, media and marketing to assist in future events. Previously, a final year university student did a great job filling this role. Unfortunately for the committee, she moved to Brisbane to further her career. For those thinking about joining a community organisation, the Street Party also showcases community groups that work tirelessly to keep our community connected. Participating groups include Beerwah Menshed, Rotary, Lions and Rural Fire Brigade. If you would like to volunteer for the street party or elsewhere in the community, contact Judy Tomlinson on 0408 445 988 or visit www.celebratebeerwah.com.au to register your interest.

Ambassador for MS Swimathon MS Queensland is now entering its 5th year of running the 12 hour Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Swimathons across the state. They announced last week, that this year, they will hold their inaugural Sunshine Coast event on Sunday, December 6, at Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre. The MS Swimathon season holds nine events across the state combining two great loves of Queenslanders, swimming and supporting a worthwhile cause! Teams swim together (relay style) for 12 hours, raising funds for those living with MS in their local community and racking up the kilometres with a lot of fun and friendly competition along the way. Kellie Carpenter is a local Beerwah resident living with MS and she will be diving in as an Ambassador for the Sunshine Coast event. Kellie was diagnosed with MS in 1998, at just 29 years of age, however she recalls from the age of 15, suffering with a range of issues which she can now pin point as symptoms of her MS. A rollercoaster of emotions followed her diagnosis, with fear for what the future held, but also relief that there was now an answer to what she was experiencing. Due to her balance issues, poor cognitive function and overwhelming fatigue, Kellie was forced to no longer run her own business in order to focus on her health. Although Kellie’s life as she knew it had to change drastically, MS has taught her that perseverance and determination are pivotal in moving forward, no matter how small the task or success - a lesson she has passed onto her children. Kellie is excited to be able to support MS

Queensland as an Ambassador, as the organisation has supported her so much already as she continues to navigate living with MS. It is through fundraising events such as the MS Swimathon that MS Queensland is able to raise much-needed funds to continue providing these vital services in regional areas. MS is the most common chronic neurological condition affecting young adults in Australia and has no known cause or cure. The average age of diagnosis is just 30 years of age and affects almost three times more women than men. There is approximately one in every 1,000 people living with MS in Australia, equating to more than 23,000 Australians and over 3,700 residing in Queensland. If you would like to know how to get involved in the event, or how to assist with the fundraising head onto the MS Queensland website www.msswimathon.com.au

As part of Mooloolah State School’s Numeracy Success Program, Peter Carmichael an experienced mathematics teacher and Education Queensland representative, has presented a number of mathematics lessons to all year levels across the school this term. His lessons have been interactive and informative and valuable for teachers, support staff and the students. The focus of the program is to introduce new resources, strategies and inspiration for implementing maths in the classrooms and enhancing our numeracy results across the school. Mr Carmichael’s approach to the lessons is to have warm-up activities with the students, explicit teaching, and open ended questioning. He discussed the importance of appropriate language for children’s comprehension of what is being asked and to be consistent across the year levels with numeracy teaching. The staff has been able to reflect on their own teaching styles of maths and expand their exploration of numeracy whilst listening and learning from Peter who has a deep knowledge and passion for maths education. As a school we hope to work with Peter Carmichael in the future, and look forward to see what else he could bring to our school to further support our learning for students from Prep to Year 6.

By Sonia Clark Earlier this month GC&M News ran a story about a ‘drought run’ that a local trucking company were coordinating to assist drought ravaged farmers and their families out west. Last week we dropped into one of the main drop off points for donations at Mooloolah Produce and Stockfeed to get an update. The run has now been pushed back to October 31 and November 1 so there is plenty of time to get your donations of stock feed, non-perishable food items and cash donations in. The response so far has been really generous with feed, long life food items and cash being donated to help those desperately in need. With Christmas just around the corner, donations of Christmas goods have also been popular. An industrial shed at Forest Glen has been donated to store the donations. Originally organised by Mooloolah locals, Ben, Lee and Tori Henderson from BTL Plant Hire, the run plans to send as many trucks and trailers as possible filled with supplies to struggling families in the town of Ilfracombe. To get more updates see their Facebookpage: BTL and friends sunshine coast to west drought run or contact Lee on 0414 869 885 or Tori on 0459 990 765.

Contributed by Gavin Stewart, Volunteer Community Educator This week, as part of the ‘Prepare, Act, Survive’ bushfire message, we’ll look at the Act part of getting ready for the bushfire season. In the event of a bushfire emergency, your actions will mean the difference in averting a tragedy for you and your family. If you are leaving … Using the fire danger rating and monitoring the radio / internet for updates is the trigger for your decision to leave early. Don’t leave a decision to leave early to the last minute. Leaving the day or morning before a bushfire is the safest option. If you are staying … Ensure you are well acquainted with what resources you need and what you need to do in this eventuality. Your Bushfire Survival Plan will be your best guide. It will set out things such as fire fighting equipment and protective clothing, ladders inside and out, buckets, shovels, battery operated radio and spare batteries, and smoke masks, plus much more from your Bushfire Survival Plan. High fire danger days … On hot, dry days when bushfires are likely, listen to local radio stations for bushfire information, drink plenty of water and, if you live on acreage or a farm, move stock to fully grazed areas. It is also a good idea to check water pumps and generators (if you have them) to make sure they are working, and prepare your protective clothing in case you need it quickly. Fire in the area … Listen to local broadcasts or check websites for updates. Put on protective clothing and drink lots of water. Move cars to a safe location. Close windows and doors and shut blinds. Take down curtains and move furniture away from windows. Bring pets inside and restrain them (leash, cage or secure room) and provide water. Block downpipes (at the top) and fill gutters with water if possible. Wet down the sides of buildings and close shrubbery in the likely path of the bushfire. Wet down fine fuels close to buildings, and turn on garden sprinklers for 30 minutes before the bushfire arrives. When the fire front arrives … Disconnect hose and fittings and bring inside. Go inside for shelter and drink lots of water. Patrol and check for embers inside, particularly in the roof space. Check family and pets. To help you be ready, contact a Community Volunteer Educator from one of the local Rural Fire Brigades. Rural fire Brigade V.C.E.’s Glass House Mountains Kirsty Levis – 0418 980 019, Steve Rook – 0407 572 930 Landsborough V.C.E. Kevin Sedgeman – 0429 940 991. Maleny V.C.E. Deb Lynde – 5492 8524 Next week we’ll look at the second part of ‘Prepare, Act, Survive’ … act, and what that means for your bushfire preparedness.

Contributed by Judith Mason The Glasshouse Country View Club’s outing for September was to Mary Cairncross Rainforest and cafe, where we enjoyed morning coffee, tea and cakes. A few then walked off the cakes in the rainforest! It was a lovely morning with great views of the Glass House Mountains. We were reminded of our road rules by Renee Kamppi from the RACQ as our guest speaker at our monthly meeting, which very interesting, as it brought us up to speed with changed rules. Four members attended the Caloundra Evening VIEW club’s birthday celebration this month, the theme was ‘the Roaring 20's’ and our members dressed accordingly. Now we are looking forward to our 'Fashion Show & Morning Tea' on Wednesday, October 7 at the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club. Time 10.00am, cost $5.00. Bob has many years’ experience working in credit unions across three separate states, and is looking forward to being part of the organisations opportunity to re-engage the community.
One year celebrations Owner of Bargain Max, Mitesh Gohil and his team are thrilled to be celebrating their first year of business at Beerwah Marketplace on October 1. Living Educational support for Autism ‘All about Autism’ is an educational support service that started in July this year for school aged children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Created by Landsborough local Elizabeth Vaughan, the private service offers classes four days a week from 8.00am - 2.00pm at the CWA Hall in Landsborough (next to Morris House). At present Elizabeth teaches a pre-Prep class and Prep aged class. Following the classes, Elizabeth offers one-on-one tuition for school aged children up to 12 years. Elizabeth is a fully qualified teacher with nearly 10 years experience working with children with ASD. She has a background in psychology and has completed her Masters of Special Education specialising in autism. Earlier in her career, she was drawn to the beneficial work of early intervention programs that provided initially small but overall quite significant gains to the autistic child and their families. Following on from teaching at a special needs school in the UK, Elizabeth moved to Australian in 2013, where she worked with an autistic specific early intervention centre here on the Sunshine Coast. On numerous occasions, Elizabeth would see ASD children do really well through work with the program, only to struggle and not cope well once they reached mainstream schooling. Realising that these children needed additional bridging support to assist their successful transition to schooling, Elizabeth created

the support service to offer an individualised approach with autistic specific strategies. The service works closely with the child’s school and special education teachers and seeks to support their positive access to their learning in school. Since starting in July, the feedback has been extremely positive with great progress shown by the current students with improvements in behaviour, attention and fine motor skills. For more details contact Elizabeth on 0437 652 120 or see the facebook page/ all about autism sunshine coast.

Iconic characters to entertain
‘Clay Paradoxes’
The Maleny Film Society’s offerings, a matinee and evening session this Saturday, couple two elderly iconic characters, both facing their final years: one full of suspense and mystery, the other full of heart. The matinee at 3.00pm on Saturday afternoon in the Maleny Community Centre is ‘Mr Holmes’, the latest version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s indomitable sleuth Sherlock Holmes, fresh in 1947 from a trip to post-war nuclear-damaged Japan, and placidly keeping bees in a cottage by the sea in post-war England. Flashbacks to his famous cases are joined by current mysteries, assisted by a young sidekick schoolboy, son of the housekeeper. Sir Ian McKellen and Laura Linney star in this PG drama. Saturday’s evening screening (7.15pm with dinner available from 6.00pm) is ‘Last Cab to Darwin’, a tough but heartfelt story of a Broken Hill cab driver (Michael Caton) seeking an escape from terminal cancer. This unusual road movie treks through the gibber desert to unearth a diverse bunch of credible Aussie characters, including Jacki Weaver as a nurse. Comedy makes the tragedy even more poignant. Directed by Jeremy Sims who co-wrote the screenplay with Reg Cribb. Members of the MFS may pre-book for these sessions via the Maleny Information Centre. www.malenyfilmsociety.info
Ann and Gerry O’Connor are professional ceramic artists who share a studio and a passion for clay, but create entirely individual works. ‘Clay Paradoxes’ is an exhibition of their latest artworks and shows the skills they have each honed, but also their wonderful imaginations. Hand-sculpting white clay, Ann brings out whimsical beings with great delicacy and humour. Having always had a great interest in Medieval manuscripts, she focused on the witty images in the margins. “I found while building the pieces they got to a stage where they began telling me what they wanted to be,” she said. Gerry is equally as imaginative and creative, but his medium is Raku. Centuries ago this developed in Asia as a quick way to make domestic items. Gerry describes the process. “Pots were modeled by hand, fired quickly, taken out of the kiln when the glaze was red hot and left to cool in the air or plunged into water,” he said. This is a couple who have combined their respective senses of humour with their artistic talents to share with all. ‘Clay Paradoxes’ opens on October 3 at ‘Art on Cairncross’ near Maleny and is on display until October 25. You Said It Did you attend Loxton High?
A reunion is being organised for the 'Class of 7983’, to be held in late 2016. The organising committee is seeking everyone who attended Loxton High School from 1979 -1983. Check in at Facebook: Loxton High Classes of 1979-1983 or on email: LHS1979@ outlook.com. It would be great to see as many people as possible attend. If you know of anyone who attended Loxton High School during these years please spread the word. Karina Bates
Anti-social behaviour
I occasionally visit the Beerwah library. On several occasions I have been surprised to see a group of five or six teenage boys hanging around the table outside the main entrance to the Community Hall, (usually about mid-morning on a school day). They spend at least an hour smoking, riding skateboards, and littering the deck around the table with plastic cups, orange peels, cigarette butts, etc. Why aren't they in school? Why have they never learned that littering (a few steps from a waste bin) is repulsive and anti-social? I wonder what kind of adult citizens they will turn out to be? Name supplied Mount Mellum
Acts of kindness appreciated
Recently while shopping in Beerwah I have experienced several acts of kindness from strangers. Firstly, after doing a large shop at Aldi with my baby, I couldn't fit everything into one trolley (due to several bulky items). Some kind people in the queue behind me offered to take the items out to my car. I thanked them, but told them I could come back into the shop after loading the other things into my car. However, as I was loading my groceries into my car, the same people appeared with my extra items in their trolley, and explained to me that it was easier than me returning into the shop to collect these extra things. I thanked these kind people profusely! On another occasion as I was loading groceries into my car (again in the Aldi carpark) with my baby in a carrier on my chest, a kind man stopped and asked me if I needed help. I thanked him, but assured him that I was okay. Finally, last week (Monday, September 21) as I was driving out of the Woolworths carpark in Beerwah onto the main road, a trolley assistant alerted me to the fact that one of my back car doors wasn't shut properly. He promptly ran across the road and shut the door for me. I thanked this man immensely. I wish to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to this man because had he not alerted me to this issue, the car door may have flown open as I went around a corner and there were a lot of things on the carseat that could have fallen out onto the road. Thank-you again so much to these four very kind people. May you also experience kindness from those around you. Name supplied Mooloolah 22

Say hello to Mr and Mrs Curlew Harold and Beryl from Bells Creek dropped into the office last week to show us photos of some special birds nesting at their property. Bush Stone-Curlews (or Bush Thick-knees) are strange looking ground dwelling birds that generally hide during the day but can be found by their piercing call at night – which some liken to the wail of a screaming woman. Breeding just once a year, they generally only lay two eggs and don’t really build a nest – just scraping a small clearing amongst the leaf litter. Harold and Beryl say they’ve had this pair nesting under their macadamia nut trees every year for a long time. The birds tend to freeze or stalk slowly away if disturbed, rather than fly. Harold and Beryl say that they can pat the female when she’s sitting on the nest – although the male tends to get a little jumpy and tries to frighten them off with his ‘aggressive’ display. The chicks are beautifully coloured, with a pattern that lets them blend perfectly into the background.
Wittafest – wow!
If the comments from those who visited the Wittafest event recently are any indicator, we have lots of friends, sponsors, supporters and workers to thank. The Witta Rec. Club especially wants to thank all those in the Hinterland Community for their support. The help with loan equipment from the District Service Clubs and others, physical help in setting up from Lions, management of parking from Rotary, extra staffing of the bar (a sell-out of the German Beers which were a feature of the menu) from the RSL, and of course the extra support from the Witta Rec. Club and friends catering crew to feed the crowd. Thanks to the attendees for their support which exceeded 700! The guests were treated to an outstanding musical extravaganza from all the artists, with a special thank you to the Maleny Singers who provided a selected compilation of songs for the event. It would be difficult to select the most popular artists on the day, they were all so good. And the historical displays! Talk to anybody who attended, and you will get the message of how well they were researched and displayed. In the words of Bill Kitsen, who provided details from his records and experiences with the Qld Lands Dept, there was outstanding interest and feedback on the early work and records of the Witta (Teutorburg) settlers. The organised tours to the Witta Cemetery, Old Witta School, Lutheran Church and the Bergmann’s Lane revegetation project were popular and our seniors appreciated the opportunity to visit such historic landmarks. Lastly, the Wittafest concept proposed and research provided by Steve Chaddock, a historian, anthropologist and local resident of Witta provided the incentive for the Witta Rec.
Unfortunately, the chicks tend to be preyed on by a lot of animals – dogs, cats and foxes – and so their numbers are slowly declining in these near-urban areas. Club to stage this event for the benefit of the Hinterland and Sunshine Coast community. Our thanks also to the Sunshine Coast Council for the Community Heritage Grant which funded the research costs and many of the historical display panels. Denis Hickey President Witta Rec. Club
The playground is next door
We have recently acquired a new puppy and after two years without a dog it is good to have him around. As part of his training we have been taking him to the dog park in Beerwah. It is a great place for him to exercise and socialise. However, I have a concern. Maybe because it is school holidays, but recently I have noticed families with small children at the park, with their dogs. Whilst this should not be a problem, there have been times when small children were allowed to run around with the dogs. I think this could be a recipe for disaster. When our dog is scared by other dogs he rolls on his back in a gesture of submission. Unfortunately young children do not understand normal dog behaviour and run away screaming. With up to a dozen dogs at a time they could build a pack mentality with serious consequences for unwary children. I would like to ask that parents and grandparents be aware that this is a dog park and not a child’s playground. That is next door. Keep your small children with you and don’t let them run around. Your own dog may be perfectly safe with your family but when running with other dogs it may not be so obedient. Derek Browning Glass House Mountains

Encouragement for parents One of the things that we as parents often struggle with is finding a way of juggling the things that demand our time. I jotted down some of these demands on paper and it looked a bit like this….
As you can see there can be a lot on our plate! Mums and dads have a challenging job indeed.

Some of these demands are more important than others – and our list of priorities will be unique for each of us. What can happen though, is that we either get overwhelmed by the demands we have on us, or ignore them – neither of these options are very good. As I pondered this dilemma it occurred to me that I hadn’t included God in my diagram… I thought to myself, where is God in this picture? Then I remembered that God reminds us again and again in the bible that he is always with us. Check out these bible verses – Joshua 1 verse 9 and 1 Peter 5 verse 7. As we do our best daily to care for our kids, spend time with our loved ones, work at our jobs and pay the bills, we need to always remember that God is with us and he can lead us in all that we do. I believe that God will give us wisdom in situations that we don’t know how to handle, comfort us in times of trial and difficulty, and can give us love to share with those around us when GCNEWS Add sept 12 2013.ai 1 10/02/2015 5:26:35 PM we don’t feel like it. Ngungun Triathlon Club
The club would like to invite all kids from age five and above to join in their spring training program. Starting the first week back at school, training will be at the Mooloolah Pool, and alternating with Skippy Park every fortnight, under the direction of Junior Coach Mark. It is recommended that all participants can swim the length of a 25m pool unassisted, and can ride a bike without training wheels. The kids will be working towards small goals for the up-coming Triathlon season, starting with racing at Bribie Tri Series, and other local junior events. The Ngungun Tri Club will be hosting a Duathlon of its own on October 23 at Mooloolah Pool. The Junior Training covers all aspects of triathlon, swimming, riding and running, in a safe, fun and inclusive environment. For further details please contact Mark on 0423 191 433. www.gcnews.com.au

Just for Laughs
It Costs No More To Hire A Proven Professional
The ears have it There was a boss looking to hire someone. But, this boss had one funny thing about him, he didn’t have any ears and was very sensitive about it. First day someone comes for an interview and does great on the exam. Then the boss asks him, “do you notice anything funny about me?” After pausing for a second he says “yes, you don’t have any ears.” The boss throws him out. Next day another guy comes in. He too does great on the exam. The boss asks him if he noticed anything funny about him. He started stuttering and fidgeting trying to get out of the situation.
The boss urges him “c’mon tell me what’s funny.” Finally he tells him, “you don’t have ears.” The boss throws him out too. On the third day another guy comes in. He aces the exam and the boss is very excited. Then the boss asks him “do you notice anything funny about me”? He thinks for a second and then replies, “yes, you wear contact lenses.” Amazed he asks him, “wow, how did you know that?” To which he responds, “easy, you don’t have any ears so you can’t wear glasses”! Your Stars with Edgar J. Winter - www.astroclairvoyant.com Week beginning 30/09/2015 LIBRA September 23 – October 22 After last weekend’s Lunar Eclipse in Aries that brings onto your front burner changes in your primary relationships over the past two and a half years, you may decide to try flying solo for a while! Take a break from mundane tasks. Positive moves mid-October. SCORPIO October 23 – November 22 The key to this week is to rethink your commitments, whether it is some kind of work or a health problem. There may be some things you just can’t control under this Mercury retrograde period. It’s time for a mental health week. Need to take a holiday! SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 22 With Mars now moving through Virgo, business affairs pitch to an even greater activity. However, you would be wise to make no decisions until after October 10 when Mercury moves direct. A huge life change commences now for the next two years. CAPRICORN December 23 – January 19 A big opportunity may be revealed about something you began in March, and now empowers you with personal endeavour from October 10. Saturn now released you from old responsibilities bringing you into understanding yourself better for improvement.

GEMINI May 22 – June 21 From the last weekend’s full Moon you are still in a great mood for storytelling. Your imagination is strong, although, if you are looking for facts, miscalculations and errors are likely under a Mercury retrograde until October 10. Tell a lover how you feel! CANCER June 22 – July 22 Peculiar developments and demanding people are putting you to the test this week. The question is whether the grass is greener on the other side of the career fence. Probably not at this time, review all again after October 10 under Mercury retrograde. LEO July 23 – August 22 You have just finished a full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Aries this week so perhaps this might involve something in publishing or the media. If you get an offer or an opportunity, this time be ready to go ahead with any good connection after October 10. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 Your ruling planet is Mercury and that is in a retrograde position from the September 17 to October 10. This means that your earnings and resources may be under some confusion. Look for a positive development relating to a joint money affair.

AQUARIUS January 20 – February 19 The last weekend saw a full Moon Libra eclipse in Aries so that this month ends on a stunning social opportunity. Perhaps an invitation to join an influential group or selfpromoted travel. More mature or successful people start floating into your life. PISCES February 20 – March 20 Emotions were stirred last weekend by the full Moon super Lunar Eclipse which could signal the end of one source of income to open the door for a new or different type. There is great Mercury Sun on September 30 revealing successful mutual money dealings. ARIES March 21 – April 20 It’s easy to forget things this week or be disorientated or distracted. The planet Mercury, being retrograde until October 10 is a challenge. It is not a good time for commitments and you have to tell the truth! Hard to define major relationship roles. TAURUS April 21 – May 21 An ability to size up future financial situations accurately may be lacking now. Thinking is creative but not necessarily logical. Mercury retrograde says that previous decisions or old choices come up for review, however avoid unrealistic ideals from the past.
