The enchanted kindy
What was once a stark, blank wall at the side entrance to the Beerwah Kindergarten has been transformed into a forest wonderland filled with insects, fairies and joyful children thanks to the talents of Peachester artist and kindy mum Sally Joyce.

Hi Everyone... I have to admit I am one of the thousands of women around the country who likes to frock up, wear some quirky headwear and head out to lunch on Melbourne Cup day. Sadly I will also admit that I will know very little about the actual horse race. I just love the atmosphere and the excitement of the day - and I am not talking about on the race track, I just mean at our local venues. As in past years, there are plenty of local venues that have organised special events for the day. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, go to page 6 to see what’s on offer locally. Our team will be out and about at most of the events getting photographic evidence of just how well we scrub up on the big day. We will include as many photos as possible in the November 14 edition and will do an expanded online edition of our event coverage. So don’t forget to #gcmnews on Instagram or email your photos and captions through to me at editorial@gcnews.com.au. Regards,

Cover Story What a transformation Sally was commissioned by the kindy to become an artist-in-residence for seven weeks with the help of a Stockland Aura Community Grant. The grant paid for 36 hours of work and as the mural evolved Sally became inspired by the suggestions of the children who watched on in awe as she painted. The final masterpiece, which will captivate kindy children for many years to come, took an additional 55 hours of Sally’s time, which she generously donated. The 4m x 2m mural was unveiled at a garden party last Wednesday, with the children dressing up in bright colours and performing a welcome dance with delicate silk scarves before an emotional Sally and her son Toby cut bunting handmade by the children to officially complete the journey. Beerwah Kindy co-director Rebecca Mackintosh said Sally conducted a number of activities with the children while in residence, including teaching them how to mix primary colours to create every hue imaginable. To add in extra fun, the kindy friends did this activity with their feet. Sally is hosting a wine and cheese opening at the kindy on Sunday, November 18 from 4-6pm for the general public and friends of the kindy to view this mural as well as the one she created on a back wall near the vegetable garden in 2016, which also featured on a cover of GC&M News. By Greg Brown It’s an information revolution we’re living through … or so we are told. Faster internet speeds, more reliable mobile phone services, bigger data download capacities it’s going to change the way we live and we better get ready. But is that the reality we are experiencing here in the regions, or is it just city-centric marketing hype? The $50 billion national broadband network (NBN) is being rolled out across our region, with some areas already connected. But is it the razzamatazz answer to our problems as has been spruiked? Mobile communication is the future, according to technology experts, with phone and device connectivity and applications evolving rapidly in recent years. But do the local systems and networks meet the growing community demands and expectations? Local federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace, wants locals to tell their stories and has organised for the highest authority in the land to listen – Senator Mitch Fifield, the Minister for Communications. Mr Fisher will host a telecommunications forum at the Glasshouse Mountains Community Hall on November 8 from 3–4.15pm (see advert on page 11 for details). We asked GC&M News readers for some of their stories … here’s a few of what they had to say:
“Don't have NBN or ADSL. Been told that we will only get satellite NBN, which is crap so I use mobile broadband and I live only five km out of the main part of town. Go figure the third world treatment we get.” Sara, Peachester “We can't even get ADSL let alone NBN. We have to rely on a Yagi antenna on the roof plugged into a mobile WiFi unit which is completely unreliable and very expensive. I have regular issues with this system which generally turns into days and days of frustrating conversations with Telstra. If I have to work from home I can't – we use a VPN connection to log into our work system and we generally don't have a strong enough signal to get the connection or when we do it uses so much data my monthly usage can be used up in a day. Mobile reception is completely non-existent so we have the additional expense of having to have a landline installed to be able to communicate. I could go on and on with the Telstra issues I have had over the last few years but it just makes me so angry. Totally ridiculous for this day and age.” Kate, Glass House Mountains “We had a very unreliable landline that Telstra would not fix, so we rely on our mobile phones. The issue is we have no mobile reception either, so we have had to install antennas and repeaters worth thousands of dollars to get Telstra reception. It was the only option for us when really it shouldn’t be!” Ryan, Diamond Valley

and mobile
“We have lived here since 2005. We have NEVER in all that time had a reliable mobile phone service that actually worked inside the house. We even had an antenna on the roof that plugged into the ‘blue tick’ mobile to improve the reception. It wasn't very mobile then. We now have Telstra NBN that has a fall back to 4G mobile if the main feed drops out. What a joke, what mobile service is there to fall back to? Now if we have a power failure, which is almost guaranteed to happen around here, we don't even have a landline as that fails now when the power is interrupted. You can't help thinking that during a real emergency how many people are going to suffer injuries leading to fatalities because they couldn't call for help.” Richard, Mooloolah “We can’t even get ADSL 2+ let alone NBN. We can only get ADSL which is hopeless. Only one person can be online at a time. So frustrating. Anybody would think we live in the never-never.” Taryn, Glass House Mountains “We’ve had a terrible time and very angry customers and spent hours and hours on our mobiles trying to get something done!” Cheryl, Mooloolah Valley Country Club “I work in Beerwah ADSL 2+ drops out continuously, and same at home – less than 300m from a tower and still have to go outside for clear mobile signals.” Andrew, Glass House Mountains
“We live and run a business on the western side of Old Gympie Road. Only available internet connection is via NBN satellite, resulting in expensive data that most of the time we can’t use due to very slow speeds and regular drop outs. Mobile phone coverage is non-existent. We have spent thousands on boosters and aerials with limited success. When you speak with Telstra they try to tell you that according to them we should have full strength 4G service. Extremely frustrating situation, which we cannot see an end to at this point – definitely not through lack of trying.” Lisa, Glass House Mountains “Beerwah for shop and home ... both on NBN. Woodgrove fttn (fibre to the node) NBN OK but only about half the speed of NBN fttc (fibre to the curb) at the shop, which is fantastic. In-laws in Peachester on ADSL 2+ with very average speeds and no hope in sight of NBN.” Tara, Beerwah
Lorna Grayson can only check her facebook while sitting out on the nature strip and ‘enjoying’ the mossies at her Glass House Mountains property
Federal Minister for Communications Mitch Fifield “My story is that at home I use a computer and with websites wanting to send you a SMS to confirm login this becomes quite difficult when you have to exit the house to receive a SMS. Forget about phone calls, they are not received at all, going straight to message bank.” Kirsty, Beerburrum “We relocated here three years ago from the Hunter Valley. We had NBN there and had no dramas with anything. We have only been eligible for NBN since August 2018 in Glass House but since the work commenced around March this year we have had nothing but dramas with our previous ADSL internet and mobile phone coverage. Both our mobiles phones are with Telstra and earlier this year I was advised by Telstra that I needed to upgrade my phone to be able to receive the best coverage signal in our area. So out of frustration we both upgraded to the newest phone and still no phone reception it cuts in and out regardless if you are inside or outside. The phone providers don’t care about the minimal service that we are paying for as long as they are still getting paid!” Nicole, Glass House Mountains If you want to have the opportunity to let the Minister know your thoughts make sure you register to attend the telecommunications forum.

Progress in NBN court cases Appeals before the Planning and Environment Court relating to two local NBN tower applications continue to progress, albeit slowly. In May this year, the Sunshine Coast Council refused an application for an NBN tower in Burgess Avenue, Maleny - a decision that was swiftly appealed by NBN. Local Thynne Court resident Scott Thompson elected to join the council in fighting the appeal, which has been before the court since July. Matters have progressed slowly, with a directions hearing held on October 18 and a follow-up review listed for November 22. A similar tower application for Link Road at Glass House Mountains was approved by the council in June this year, but an appeal against the decision was made by local nearby residents Giovanni and
Giuseppina Chessa. Their appeal states that “… the development ought to be refused because it conflicts with the relevant instruments and no other relevant considerations which justify approval of the proposed development”. At the most recent hearing on October 19, the appeals judge issued an order for directions, setting out the responsibilities and the timeline for the continuing appeal from now until April next year. The next hearing will be a review of the progress of the actions and timeframes as specified by the judge, including an order that the parties meet on November 15 and engage in a ‘without prejudice’ mediation with a view to settling or limiting the issues in dispute.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the investigations were part of upcoming works to stabilise the embankment near the Bakers Road intersection. “As locals would well know, it’s difficult terrain so we have programed additional investigation works to get more details about what’s under the road surface. “These works are critical to ensure safe road conditions are maintained on the hinterland

Works will be undertaken between 6am-6pm and will take between two and four days to complete, weather permitting. “We thank the local community and motorists for their patience while we carry out these important works and remind motorists to be alert to changed traffic conditions,” Mr Bailey said. “It is possible there will be some minor delays for road users.”

Maleny re-enactment of 2018 Victory Parade
By Sonia Clark This year marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, with centenary commemorations held both nationally and internationally honouring the service and sacrifice of the original ANZACs. Maleny RSL Sub Branch will commemorate the end of the war with a re-enactment of the original 1918 Maleny Victory Parade on Remembrance Day, Sunday, November 11, at 10am. The parade, which has taken more than 12 months of planning, will feature a variety of historical elements and will include a number of families who are direct descendants of those involved in the original parade. One of the Maleny event organisers, Chris Brooker, said that the re-enactment parade will be a great drawcard for the public. “This is a once in 100-year event and will probably never be repeated. Once we explained the reason for the parade, the community reaction has been enthusiastic,” Chris said. The event will culminate with the Remembrance Day Service at the Maleny RSL Hall. It will involve street closures for the main area of Maleny between 10-11am. “The main focus of the day will be the centenary of the end of World War I and the beginning of peace,” Chris said. “I believe the original parade was a civilian affair put on by the families of the servicemen still overseas with only 12 ex-servicemen in attendance,” he said. In the spirit of the original parade, the reenactment promises to be a community event with numerous clubs and organisations
& AUTO CARE
represented. As well as the participation of direct descendants, cadets from TS Centaur will showcase a replica of HMAS Sydney built by Maleny Men’s Club and there will be representatives from Maleny Equestrian Group, 5th Light Horse troopers and the Bushrangers Rugby Union Club, who will be dressed as infantry pulling a cannon. Other parade participants will include members of Maleny Players dressed as swagmen, about 80 local school children and the Maleny Singers. Floats and cars will be provided by the Blackall Range Horseless Carriage Club and equestrian vehicles by Australian Carriage Driving Society, with an old ambulance to add to the authenticity. The original Maleny Victory Parade was held on the last Saturday in November and duly reported in the elaborately flowery prose of the time the following week by the ‘Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser’. It was reported that the parade “entirely eclipsed any previous function ever witnessed. Practically every person in the district was present and the crowd numbered many hundreds, all of whom carried some patriotic emblem”. Starting at the doctors’ residence, the procession passed through the township and was over half a mile (about 800m) long. It was reported that “fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, children and sweethearts of ANZACs were

present, and the joy at the termination of hostilities and the possibilities of a not distant reunion with their loved ones was amply apparent”. One of highlights of the original parade was the conversion of Mr Alfred Cooke’s Studebaker car to represent the battleship Sydney, complete with a trident holding Britannia, sailors and “masts, funnels, guns, life belts, port holes, anchors and all other warship necessaries”. Following the pageant, the “battleship Sydney” was “moored” in the centre of the procession and used as a platform for speeches, followed by a picnic of tea, sandwiches and cake. All are welcome to attend the Remembrance Day Service at the RSL Maleny Memorial Hall after this year’s parade, which promises to be a once in a lifetime event

Community News Kippa opening in Diamond Valley Contributed by Christine Stuart The Gubbi Gubbi Dyungungoo Group Incorporated recently celebrated the opening of its kippa (bora) on its property in Diamond Valley. The event was hosted by volunteer members of the Gubbi Gubbi Dyungungoo Group, a not-forprofit organisation responsible for the culture and heritage of Gubbi Gubbi traditional lands. Member for Glass House Andrew Powell, Member for Pumicestone Simone Wilson, Sunshine Coast councillors Greg Rogerson and Jenny McKay and other attendees were officially 'welcomed to country' by members of the Gubbi Gubbi people, who shared their story and the cultural significance of the newly built meeting place. The kippa represents a meeting place where people come together to share knowledge. In the Gubbi Gubbi language the word kippa means small circle.
However, throughout Australia the meeting place for Aboriginal people is commonly known as a bora ring, which refers to a large ceremonial circle. Traditionally, like the bora ring, a kippa was formed over centuries by the ancestors during ceremonies. Cr McKay, who attended on behalf of the Mayor Mark Jamieson representing the council, said it was a great opportunity to attend the official kippa opening. “Events like this offer us the opportunity for improved cultural understanding. The council is working collaboratively to deliver a better outcome and really appreciates the opportunity to be here,” Cr McKay said. Christmas cards from Aussies to Aussies
Glasshouse Mountains residents Steve and Michelle Davison are behind the grassroots community venture Aussie2Aussie, which seeks to find affordable ways for ordinary people to come together to help others. Realising there were community members who wanted to make a difference to the lives of others but who may have been prevented due to financial or health reasons, Michelle and Steve sought to find a cost-effective and inclusive way for people to get involved and contribute to the wellbeing of others. Michelle said that, in a nut shell, they wanted to be like an old-fashioned telephone exchange - connecting people with organisations/individuals doing great things but with a difference. In 2014 Michelle and Steve held a Christmas card event in the Whitsundays (where they were living at the time). The idea was for people to donate unused Christmas cards that can have messages of hope included from the local community to be sent to farmers and their families who were doing it tough. Hoping for 100 cards, they were overwhelmed with support receiving more than 500 cards and small gifts that, through contacts made with the organisation Aussie Helpers, were hand delivered to farmers in Charleville. This year they are hoping to do another Christmas card run and are looking for donations of unused Christmas cards. Help is also needed to coordinate receipt of the cards, as well as local drop off and collection points. No monetary donations are wanted. Cards must be received unsealed at collection points by November 25. The RSL sub branch at Glass House Mountains is providing a box for people to drop off unused cards on Wednesday afternoons from 4.30pm and on Friday evenings. For more details and to get involved visit the Aussie2Aussie Facebook page. RSL Sub-branch president Brian Machin with Michelle Davison from Aussie2Aussie

by the Maleny Library Staff
This year marks the centenary of Armistice Day – 100 years ago, on November 11, 1918, the First World War came to an end. Maleny RSL is staging a re-enactment of the 1918 Victory Parade, with Maleny and Beerwah libraries planning complementary displays that include photographs taken in 1918. More photos can be viewed on Picture Sunshine Coast, a database of more than 10,000 images that depict the history and development of the Sunshine Coast. The photos are an excellent resource for local history research, school assignments and for people wanting to see how the coast looked in the “old days”. To access Picture Sunshine Coast, go to Sunshine Coast Libraries website. The library collection has a wealth of other information relevant to Armistice Day, which is all free and can be reserved via the online catalogue. If it’s nonfiction you are interested in, you might enjoy Sapper Martin: The secret Great War diary of Jack Martin, available in large type format. For younger readers, Armistice 1918 can be borrowed from our junior collection. If you prefer to watch rather than read, you might like the documentary ANZAC battlefields available on DVD. You can also search our online resources for websites such as Coming home: An investigation of the armistice and repatriation. For those preferring fiction, there are novels in our adult fiction collection such as Flesh in armour, or audiobooks such as Parade’s end for those who prefer stories read to them. Sunshine Coast Libraries also ran poppy making workshops earlier this year to support the centenary celebrations, with all contributions donated to RSL Sunshine Coast for display across the region. The poppies also made their way to Bullecourt, France with one patron who visited the fields this year (picture supplied by Brian Freeman). We look forward to seeing you at the library during November, where friendly staff are available to help with all your borrowing needs. Visit the library website at https://library.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/ for more details.
New face at Mooloolah Hair Studio
Come in this week to say hi and make an appointment with the new owner of Mooloolah Hair Studio, Brooke Barr. After four and a half years as owner and 15 years working in the salon, Kristy Kowald has reluctantly hung up her scissors for a while to focus on regaining her health. Luckily, Sunshine Coast hairdresser Brooke was keen to take over the business to service Kristy’s lovely clients. Brooke has been hairdressing for the past 12 years - ten years in Sydney and the past two years on the Sunshine Coast. Her specialty is balayage and up-styling, but she will continue to offer all the usual great services including cuts, colours, perms and kids cuts, all with the same local, friendly service. With a young daughter herself, Brooke also appreciates how hard it is to find a kidfriendly salon, so will have a kid’s corner set up to keep your cherubs entertained during your appointment. Brooke is looking forward to meeting more locals in the coming weeks and wants to thank Kristy for making the transition so smooth and easy. Appointments can be made by calling the salon on 5494 7177.

Out and proud book launch
Keen to find a treasurer
Celebrate Glasshouse Country Inc is a community organisation initially established by volunteers to host the 2015 Street Party at Beerwah. Wasn’t that a great event? Remember the crowds that turned up for the 2017 Street Party? They organised that too and plan to hold the next street party in October 2019. Celebrate Glasshouse Country president Judy Tomlinson said the organisation’s aim was to support the community by promoting the lifestyle and natural resources of Glasshouse Country. “Recently, we successfully obtained funding to enable the publication of ‘The Heritage Listed Glasshouse Mountains’ written by Beerwah local Ivon Northage. “We also have other projects on the table to promote our area and build the skills of community groups,” Judy said. The team is keen to invite new members to join them at the upcoming annual general meeting on Tuesday, November 27 at their office downstairs in the Landsborough Hall (look for the flag outside the office door). If you love living in Glasshouse Country and enjoy volunteering, you may like to join the organisation as treasurer. They are are looking for an enthusiastic team player. If this is you, please contact Judy on 0408 445 988 or Maree on 0416 175 Judy and Maree
Contributed by Heather Cameron Maleny has an active community of LGBTI people and through its IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia) group has been a strong supporter of events and activities in the past few years. The group has raised money to support young LGBT people in and around Maleny and this year, with the support of grants from GALFA (Gay and Lesbian Foundation of Australia) and the Maleny Credit Union Charitable Trust, they have produced a video and most recently a book. The book tells the stories of eight people from the LGBT community in Maleny. ‘Who we are: Out and proud in Maleny’ has just been published and will be launched on Thursday, November 8. Everyone from the Maleny and surrounding communities is invited to attend. The launch will be held at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre starting at 5.30pm. The guest speaker is the newly appointed Anti-Discrimination Commissioner for Queensland, Mr Scott McDougall. Scott was the director and principal lawyer at Caxton Legal Centre. Light refreshments will be served after the launch and copies of the book will be available for sale. The incidence of mental health issues, self-harm and suicide is much greater among young LGBT people than their peers. Having access to stories that depict real lives like theirs assists in giving them confidence to seek support for whatever issues they may have. The book also assists families of young LGBT people by helping them become more aware of the need to support their children. If you can attend the launch please RSVP by email to heathercameron2012@hotmail.com by Monday, November 5.

If you have been to the Beerwah Hotel drive-thru lately you may have noticed the bright blue container now located in the car park. In case you were wondering what it is, it’s called an Envirobank and it will be a handy location for returning your drink bottles and cans as part of Queensland’s new Container Deposit Scheme, which kicks off on Thursday, November 1. There are a couple of things you need to know before returning your containers - they should be empty, uncrushed, lid-free and display the refund marking for Queensland. To get a full explanation of how the deposit scheme will work go to www.envirobank.com. au. You can also sign up for an account.

Community Updates Probus and art
Contributed by Norma McCormack The Glasshouse Probus Club recently hit the road to travel to Cairncross Corner at Maleny where they enjoyed a visit to ‘Art on Cairncross’. The featured artist of the month was Tom McAulay who was there in person to speak to us about his work. We learned so much and it was only money and space that stopped us from clearing the gallery of art and metal sculptures. Thanks to the gallery owners for such an interesting display. A short walk down the hill brought us to the Orangery at Maleny for lunch where the food, scenery and service rounded out an excellent day. To share these experiences join us on the second Wednesday of each month at 10am at the Beerwah Community Hall. For more details phone Norma on 5439 0446.
Neighbourhood Watch Glasshouse Country Contributed by Una Robinson Community police officer Senior Constable Susan Lowndes recently met with a group of about 47 locals at the Neighbourhood Watch ‘Coffee with a cop’ at Beerwah Library. Two local walking group members also shared information about their walking trails. A casual group operates on a Friday morning where participants can walk at their own pace and distance. For more information contact valerie.machin@gmail.com. It was especially lovely to welcome some newcomers to Glasshouse Country who were able to collect their welcome kits. The kits include $20 vouchers for first time customers to Beerwah Hair and Beauty, thanks to business owner Vicky Heading. Neighbourhood Watch had a practical display
of information available for people to read or to pick up including the August NHW newsletter and storm preparation pamphlet. Periodically Neighbourhood Watch newsletters and other important NHW items of community interest are circulated via email to community members. If you would like to receive these updates contact the secretary on nhwbeerwah@gmail.com. Neighbourhood Watch Queensland is celebrating its 30th birthday this month. Neighbourhood Watch in communities reduces crime by 16-26%. Special thanks to the Friends of the Library who catered for the enjoyable afternoon tea. The group meets on the second Tuesday of alternate months at Beerwah Library at 3.30pm. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 11.
Seniors group supports Daniel Morcombe Foundation The Landsborough Seventh-day Adventist Church’s over 50s social group recently held a fellowship lunch at a member’s home in Landsborough. The group regularly gets together in the hinterland area and, as part of the activity, often raises money for a local charity or community organisation. At the recent lunch $100 was raised to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. Contact Charles Russell 0407 101 485 for further information about being part of the group.

Get connected with Netlock Do you want to speak to someone locally about accessing better internet options? Do you have NBN or networking questions? Want to know more about available phone plans for internet users and how to keep your existing home or business number or would you just like someone to provide easy and accessible options to sort out all your IT needs? Then why not speak to the friendly team of service professionals at Netlock. For nearly 20 years, Netlock (computer and internet services) has been providing comprehensive IT services, set up and support, internet and hosting, maintenance, repairs and sales from its Landsborough offices. Owner Paul Kingston says that as a locally owned and operated business, they are always happy to provide advice or answers to any computer or internet related questions at any time to local customers. With all the buzz around NBN, customers can be a little overwhelmed about available options – the
team at Netlock are here to help. Some people are also still unaware that phone land lines will move away from copper cabling and will therefore eventually become obsolete. As an independent reseller of internet plans, which can also be tied into home or business internet phone packages, Netlock can provide a number of options best tailored to suit your needs and allow you to keep your current phone number. “We find that people are confused about how the phones work with NBN. Also, many of our customers didn’t realise that there are four different NBN speeds to choose from – whereas ADSL only offers one speed. We have plans to suit every budget and requirement and can help with your setup every step of the way,” explained Paul. The process for signing up to NBN is easy and hassle free – the friendly team assesses your needs and helps you choose a plan. Customers fill out the application form, which is then processed
Paul Kingston and the team at Netlock immediately and then an NBN field tech will connect you to the NBN – finally a Netlock technician will then attend onsite to connect the modem and all your devices. People, Plates and Places is a remarkable outdoor long table plate-to-paddock dining experience that showcases the best in local produce and chefs. Event organisers and Montville locals Elizabeth Craig-Holmes and her husband Tony Holmes invite guests to come along to their upcoming events at Yanalla Farms at Glass House Mountains. The spectacular outdoor dining experience Karen Martin of Yanalla includes an exceptional five-course meal paired Farms with excellent wines on Saturday, November 17 or come along to their lazy Sunday brunch on Sunday, November 18. Elizabeth and Tony believe that there is no better way to learn about where our food comes from than by being right at the heart of where producers grow the food. Yanalla Farms is a 22 ha (55 acre) working orchard owned by Rob and Karen Martin, second generation farmers producing a selection of premium sub-tropical fruit, including lychees and red dragon fruit. The Martins are particularly excited about the recent unveiling of a new variety of custard apple, PinksBlush, at their orchard. “About 20 years ago, this naturally occurring variety was discovered growing as an individual branch on a different variety of custard apple tree,” Rob said. The Martins will proudly showcase the new variety at the long table dinner. PinksBlush will be cleverly crafted into the menu by chef Sean Heyward, together with other delicious produce from the local area, ensuring guest palates are amply sated. She said the group’s book was divided into sections - adventure, history, humour, drama and non-fiction. “In other words, there is something for everyone," Patty said. If you are keen to write but not sure where to start, you can join the group in the meeting room at the Beerwah Library on the second and fourth Fridays of the month at 10am–12noon.

You Said It
A Beerwah local who was a bit tired of the growing number of runaway trolleys up and down Turner Street created a new trolley bay last week.
Thank you, thank you, thank you
That is the message I would like to relay to all involved with this year’s Beerwah Charity Sports and Spring Carnival. The family day out, now in its 47th year, this year raised $26,300 for our vital work in cancer control which is an incredible effort. The success of this important fundraising event, that features everything from horse events, to athletics, to stalls and entertainment, a show & shine, strongman competition and much, much more, is shared by many, and I’d like to take a moment now to thank you all. Thanks to the members of the organising committee who spend many months planning the carnival, to those who volunteer to help on the day or with a specific event, to the various competitors, and all those who took the time to attend. One person is diagnosed with cancer every 20 minutes in Queensland – in the Sunshine Coast region, around 3200 locals are diagnosed with cancer each year. As an independent, community-based charity, we rely on funds raised at events like the Beerwah Charity Sports and Spring Carnival to continue investing in cancer research and providing support, hope and advice for all Queenslanders, all cancers. So, again, thank you – with the continued support of this fantastic community event we can continue to make progress towards a cancer free future. If you or a loved one needs support following a cancer diagnosis, please call 13 11 20 or visit cancerqld.org.au. Ms Chris McMillan CEO Cancer Council Queensland
Home funerals
I have recently suffered the death of my wife Joyce. Our family excluded the corporate funeral directors and decided to handle the entire funeral ourselves.
CONDITIONS Please keep your letters under 300 words, your name, address and daytime phone number must be supplied. Letters must focus on issues and not be personal attacks on individuals. Letters may be edited.
What we were trying to achieve was to reattain all of the costs of the funeral in our own community so that our community benefited. Home funerals and internments are not difficult and I would thoroughly recommend them for families, especially for those who have some time to plan. The funeral industry jealously guards its huge financial interest, however home funerals are highly achievable and are supported by our health service providers and council. My estimate is that we saved half the funeral costs which we have put back into our community via the Chappie, the hydrotherapy pool and the Maleny Girl Guides. Greg Newton Balmoral Ridge
Couldn’t agree more
We wish to add our support to the letter written by Carlos da Cunha in the October 17 edition of GC&M News. We couldn't agree more with everything that he said. The only addition being, we would like to see the pathway extended from the retirement village on the Maleny Landsborough Road to Obi Lane, as was reported as an option in the local paper in either 2015 or 2016. As elderly residents of Howard Lane, we would love to be able to maintain our independence and walk to town in safety and not have to rely on others for transport, which is not always available. Joseph and Margaret Merlino Maleny
Not good enough
I have an exposed pit with asbestos in it in my driveway that Telstra and NBN have been notified about for about eight weeks now and they have done nothing. The only thing that changed was last Monday when a technician arrived, opened the pit and has left the lid off creating additional danger. I should also mention that the rewire he did on part of the network line has been left hanging, unsupported through much of its length. This is a total fail and clearly indicates a ‘I don't give a damn’ attitude. Michael Berris Mooloolah
Re: Cancer and glyphosate
In response to Richard Giles’ letter in GC&M News, October 24. We are all aware of the Dewayne Johnson v Monsanto (now a subsidiary of Bayer) case in the USA (www.npr.org/2018/10/23/659848853/ california-judge-cuts-award-to-78-5-million-inmonsanto-weedkiller-case). It is wise to be sceptical of any large corporation that has a financial vested interest and it is even
SEND TO: editorial@gcnews.com.au PO Box 99, Beerwah 4519
more important that they be kept honest with logic and good science. It may turn out that glyphosate is proven to be a carcinogen, but it won’t help when a computer scientist who pays for her own papers to be published, has no friends in the wider scientific community on the subject and publicly states that 50% of all children born in the US by 2025 will be autistic, gets your support as a credible source of science. This sort of fake science is what actually helps the Bayers and Monsantos of our world and muddies the water for the facts to come through. Science based on “I wouldn’t have seen it if I didn’t believe it” is not what we need now Richard. We all saw 4 Corners, we knew it was coming and our government has acted to hold a review of the current science. Let’s wait and see what the experts come up with. Peter Gawith Peachester
Correct indication
Over the past year I've noticed what seems to be a growing number of drivers not indicating when exiting a roundabout. As far as I know, drivers are to use their left-hand indicator to exit. Even worse is the tendency for some drivers to have their right-hand indicator on while exiting. This trend not only contributes to inefficiency on our crowded roads, but is a danger for pedestrians. Especially concerning for pedestrians are the vehicles whose drivers are using their right-hand indicators while exiting! Garry Claridge Maleny
Horrified
On Saturday my husband took our two dogs to the new dog park in Landsborough. We generally go to the Beerwah dog park but decided to give Landsborough a try. He was at the tunnel exercise designed for dogs to go through the tunnel, which is made up of slats. The slats have gaps between them where a dog’s leg can go through and get caught. We have a medium-sized kelpie-cross dog and he decided to jump up on the tunnel like all the other exercises in the park and his leg went through the slats and he was caught. My husband rushed to his aid before he broke his leg in a struggle to get free. This exercise is extremely dangerous and can quite easily break a dog’s leg causing serious injury. I suggest immediate closure of the park until this is rectified and have emailed Sunshine Coast Council to inform them of this hazard. Karen King Landsborough

Hinterland Kids Playing in readiness for prep Contributed by Sally Joyce
Peachester State School’s third prep transition day was held recently with new friends welcomed for their muchanticipated outside play morning of sandpit and water, painting and more. The students, their younger siblings and new friends learnt more about wearing hats, looked at healthy lunchboxes, toured the Bodhi joined his big brother Tayte to school amenities and tried on some play with his new friend Braxton uniforms for size. They enjoyed playing and eating with the older children. We reckon this group is pretty confident and comfortable with their new school already. We can’t wait to see them all in their yellow and black in January 2019. The principal Mrs Kim Fillery invites parents to make a private appointment with her if they wish to discuss any further concerns or questions about their little ones starting school. Please call the school office to make an appointment on 5439 5111. Peachester Playgroup will hold a special Teddy Bear’s Picnic in the school’s forest classroom on Tuesday, November 13. This is an open invitation for all 2019 preppies to spend more time getting to know their new friends. Please bring a water bottle, hat and piece of fruit or snacks and meet at the Peachester Playgroup shed at 9.15am. Health Check Caring for your mental health with Kelly Sweeting
Esprit Psychology opened its doors in Beerwah in August 2016. Since that time we have been working with individuals, couples and families to help achieve meaningful and worthwhile lives. Our psychologist Kelly Sweeting has experience in a wide range of problems including: depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, addiction, relationship counselling, trauma, complex mental health conditions and work place difficulties. Kelly uses various evidence-based interventions to support her clients. Kelly mainly uses cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and solution focus brief therapy. The philosophy of Esprit Psychology is to encourage the people who we work with to learn and understand the problem in-hand and allow then to identify their own goals. The journey starts with finding out what the problem is and then finding the best way for the individual to address the problem. The skills that people learn in sessions are not only useful in the present but hopefully will be useful in the future. Kelly works with individuals from 12 year olds to older adults. If you receive a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, your sessions will be bulk billed. Alternatively you can book an appointment privately. If you require further information or would like to book an appointment, please give us a call or send an email.
Have you checked your sleep health? with Beerwah Amcal Pharmacy
Sleep apnoea, or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), happens when a person’s airway is partly or completely blocked while they are asleep. Sleep apnoea is a common condition affecting one in four Australians. There are varying degrees of severity of sleep apnoea and in many cases the person suffering may not even know they are waking up. Typical symptoms may include frequent visits to the toilet during the night, daytime sleepiness or fatigue, irritability or mood changes, waking up gasping for breath, morning headaches, poor concentration and, of course, snoring. If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you may be suffering from sleep apnoea. The good news is that this condition can be treated. In many cases a simple lifestyle change can help. However, there are also treatments such as night time masks and mouth guards that may need to be implemented. Beerwah Amcal Pharmacy can provide you with a free sleep health check to discover your personalised ‘sleep score’ and assess whether an overnight-athome sleep test is right for you. Discover how you can step into the day with better concentration and higher energy for the day ahead. Book your sleep health check today.

Health &Beauty New owner at Healthy Guru
After five years of being part of the Beerwah health and wellness industry Craig and Leanda Harmer have sold their business The Healthy Guru to Beerwah local Denese Brookes. Denese will take over the running of the retail business from Thursday, November 1 and will work with Sara McCarthy and other practitioners Melanie Larsen and Emily Bendesen. While Craig and Leanda have firm plans for their future at their new home in Glenwood, north of Gympie, for the next three months Leanda plans to continue to offer her services and yoga classes from the Healthy Guru three days a week. Leanda said that they had really enjoyed the opportunity to be a part of the local community and the relationships that they had developed with their many lovely clients. The couple bought their beautiful 17ha (43 acre) property earlier this year with the goal of creating the Ashwattha Wellness Retreat. Ashwattha, meaning sacred tree, is an emblem of the ‘Tree of Life’, the symbol of the never ending universe. If you would like to keep a Denese Brookes track of Leanda and Craig’s with Leanda & future journey make sure you Craig Harmer like their new Facebook page.

Vicki and the team at Beerwah Hair and Beauty have a number of gorgeous treatments that will make you look and feel uplifted. For those wanting a natural substitute from regular brow tinting, the veganfriendly range of henna brow colouring can offer a longer-lasting result than traditional tinting, while also stimulating hair growth. Before Book in with therapist Claudia, who was last year’s winner of the public vote for best employee in the local region for the Glassys, and experience the benefits of using henna brow tinting. Using organic ingredients and skipping harmful nasties, henna can condition and strengthen brow hairs. Not only is henna a better alternative for your hair and body – the results look amazing. Another option for long-lasting beautiful brows is eyebrow feathering - a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing procedure. Included in the initial treatment cost is a six-week touchup. Follow up touchup appointments are not required until 12-18 months after initial treatment. Other popular treatments available include lash extensions, microdermabrasion, which is great for stimulating new cell growth and unclogging pores, and Dermatude (META therapy treatment) – the facelift alternative. New York-based photographer Ronit (Rachel Weisz) returns to the London Orthodox Jewish community where she grew up to attend the funeral of her rabbi father. She has been estranged from her family and the community through her 'disobedience' - an earlier intense relationship with Esti (Rachel McAdams), the details of which are gradually revealed as the narrative unfolds. Ronit is still very much an outsider and, to further intensify her estrangement, Esti has married her father's protégé Dovid. Weisz, who has been the recipient of an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA, gives a memorable performance in this subtle, elegant UK drama which explores the boundaries of faith and sexuality. In the Garden Jobs for the yard in November Once your spring flowering bulbs – such as Dutch iris, jonquils and daffodils – have died down, lift out the bulbs, clean off the dirt and store them in a dry, dark place. Propagate daylilies from any plantlets that have developed along the flower stalks. Plant them into a pot of quality potting mix and wait for them to grow. Rain and warm temperatures will see a big increase in grasshopper and caterpillar numbers in the garden. Pick them off and squash them, or use a pyrethrum, spinosad or bacterial-based spray (DiPel). Time to prune your azaleas and dead-head roses to encourage continual flowering. Zucchinis may be showing powdery mildew (a fungal disease) on their leaves. Spray with Mancozeb or try the one-part milk to ten-parts water technique. It’s important to keep up regular watering of citrus while they are flowering and developing small fruits.
Keep an eye out for bronze orange bugs on your citrus. Knock them off and squash them or spray with Confidor. Fruit flies will start to appear. Keep them at bay by cleaning up old rotten fruits and using a splash bait, such as Eco-Naturalure. Prune back your grevilleas by a third to promote bushiness and another flush of flowering. Keep spraying your developing mangoes with Mancozeb to prevent the disease anthracnose. Vegetables Plant celery, Asian greens, chilli, eggplant, silverbeet, capsicum, rhubarb, choko, lettuce, cucumber, squash, beans, sweet corn, sweet potato, radish, tomato, zucchini, carrot, okra, pumpkin, spring onion, rockmelon and watermelon. Flowers Plant sunflower, amaranthus, celosia, gomphrena, marigold, petunia, New Guinea impatiens, portulaca, salvia, zinnia, ageratum, coleus, aster, cockscomb, Californian poppy, begonia, cosmos, torenia and dahlia.

Noticeboard Wet weather means more mozzies
The recent wet weather and high rainfall over the past two weeks may cause an increase in mosquito numbers throughout our region. Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service acting manager of environmental health, Greg Blumke, is concerned about the potential increase in mosquitoes and the health of Sunshine Coast and Gympie residents. “It’s very important to protect yourself and family from mosquito bites and to prevent further mosquito breeding by inspecting around your home and yard for standing water, which serves as a mosquito breeding site,” Mr Blumke said. Beerwah Carer Support Group - The group meets on the first Friday of each month to provide a space for informal support, connecting with each other, sharing experiences and information at the Beerwah Library meeting room, 25 Peachester Road, Beerwah. From the churches What confronts us each day as we turn on the news?
Devastating earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires ... nature wreaking havoc. Murders, domestic violence, high profile and petty theft, senseless destructive behaviour, continual reports of sexual abuse, child abuse, hunger and wasteful excesses … humans wreaking havoc. Is this really what we are about as humans? I do not want to believe that. I want to believe that we are more than that. When I look at Genesis 2 it says: “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him: male and female He created them”. This is our inner stamp no matter what layers of crookedness try to cover it. We all, without exception, are the ‘sons’ and ‘daughters’ of God. But we have the choice of what we do with our lives and sadly we do not always make good choices. I am trying to consciously seek real life stories of people who have done great things, sometimes at great cost, even loss of their own lives. This is in

contrast to the barrage of news reports of people doing dumb things with devastating effect. In South Africa there are groups of people who have been displaced and live in makeshift shelters eking out a survival existence with no external support. Pictures of children and adults digging in garbage bins to find food and any useful items. In a very rich suburb there was a woman who saw this tragic need and began to do something about it. She travelled from supermarket to supermarket collecting food that would be discarded because it had just reached the ‘sell by’ date. She drove to the makeshift shelters and distributed it freely. The news of her generosity spread, and more and more people came to her for help. Eventually she realised that she could not manage it on her own and turned to her local church for help. Their response was wholehearted. This resulted in a team effort and soon they were assisting hundreds of people a day. This is at the heart of the Christian message Jesus fed the hungry and brought hope to the desperate.

Steven Bradbury at sports awards night The Glasshouse Christian College Sports Awards guest speaker knows all about hard work, dedication and perseverance in the face of incredible challenges. Steven Bradbury OAM was the first athlete from the Southern Hemisphere and Australia to win a Winter Olympics gold medal. He recently spoke to the students about his experiences at the annual sports awards night. Also known as the “last man standing”, Mr Bradbury became world famous when his strategy during the 1000m event at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City paid off, taking out the gold after all the other skaters in the race crashed.
Steven Bradbury with middle and senior Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year. L-R Olivia McKenzie, Jaymes Roser, Steven Bradbury, Chloe Dunford and Aiden McKellar
Steven Bradbury with primary Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year and Gold Award recipient. L-R Jared Moss, Indiah Loveday, Steven Bradbury and Lily Breen
Mr Bradbury regaled the students and parents with stories about his lifetime of labour to become “an overnight success” in speed skating. One of the highlights was allowing his Olympic gold medal to be handed around the audience so everyone could see and feel it up close. The sports awards night celebrated GCC students as teams and individuals who excelled in their field. The number of students who received a gold, silver or bronze award was testimony to the skill, dedication and the participation ethic of the students. The most coveted trophy of Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year went to Jared Moss and Indiah Loveday in primary, Jaymes Roser and Olivia McKenzie in middle school and Aiden McKellar and Chloe Dunford in senior school.

Contributed by Ken Barker The Caloundra group visited on Friday with the hope of better conditions than in the previous week. They were rewarded with beautiful weather and fine play. Club members should interrogate them before their next visit to see who they know up top to influence the weather. The practise on Saturday morning went well. These sessions are popular with many club members. Four hardy players snuck in two short games between 2-3pm on Sunday. Vince Carbery beat Donna Manning 14-0 and Frances Harper beat Kath Smith 3-0. They sensibly stopped playing as the day darkened and hopefully made it home before the rain pelted down, with 39mm measured in the first hour after the evacuation. Wednesday saw a good tussle for the second division club championship. Nick Cram, Ken Barker, Vince Carbery and Donna Manning competed, with Val Carbery as referee. It was good to see spectators wandering through. Donna won three of three in fine form to deservedly take the title in 2018. Well done Donna. Third and fourth division are yet to be played and the open is scheduled for December 5. Entries for the November tournament are good in divisions two and three with eight players in both. Open and division four each had four players at close of entries. The tournament will be played on November 1-4. Good luck to all competitors. Lessons for beginners are held on the courts in the showgrounds on Saturdays at 8am. For details contact president Vince Carbery on 5494 2193 or secretary Priscilla Vickers on 5494 3555.
Contributed by Graeme Glover What a great week of bowls action at MBC. Monday monthly pairs saw the prize money go to Kilcoy and Mapleton. Well done guys and thanks for your support. The great feature for MBC was our capacity to fill the rink. A number of new bowlers played and acquitted themselves well. It was a great transition for many of our new bowlers. Wednesday saw a good turnout for the bowls and barbeque, with solid performances by many of the teams. It was noted that some teams tired after the first end then finally hit their straps to save some good shots to make a late finish. Dave Coffey will return soon to keep the boys on track. Marg Ginns was awarded player of the night as she kept saving shots to keep her team close. Well done to all who played and supported the club. Bryan Frip was acknowledged for his efforts in making it a good place to get a cold beer on tap for all our members. Warm weather kept a few folks off the green and in the shade. Some great bowls were played. Marg Ginns continued her form from Wednesday night and it was a quality performance by all bowlers on this rink. Christmas is around the corner. Kay Gesch has done a great job in rallying the troops to make plum puddings for our major bowls fundraiser coming up early in November. Thanks for all the continued efforts to Kay and those who willing give of their time to help out in this venture. A big well done to all who have contributed in any way to this event, which is already a sell-out. Warm weather has made Wednesday night and Friday afternoon sun smart bowls options for all of us. Come on down and join in the fun. See you all at the club.

Contributed by David Hayes Wednesday, October 24: Ladies day - the final of the ladies consistency was played, and the winner was Jenny Hobson with 151 who defeated Eileen Pierce 137. Well done and congratulations Jen. In the social bowls Joy Reason and Rae Farrell defeated John Aitken and Chris Dougan 298, Graham Meyers and Lyn Griffiths defeated Sue O’Hagan and Marilyn Podmore 24-20, Lee Meyers, Marilyn Boulton and Rob Scullion defeated Noelle Dean, Noelene Annakin and Di Hume 26-15. Thursday, October 25: Social - Open pairs winners were Noelene Annakin and Dean Shaw with 2+34. Winners of the losers were Chris Dougan and Jim Tatum with +15 in the second game. The lucky draw went to Mac Townson and Rob Scullion. Sunday, October 28: Coaching - Three coaches and four bowlers turned up. Didn’t realise we had so many bowlers who do not need improvement. Coaches provide their time free of charge. Make sure you use them! Mixed triples and fours kick of this Friday and Saturday with play in the cool of the evening and under lights, which should be enjoyable. Please check when you are playing. Sunday, November 11 is our Diggers vs Civvies day. Put your name down at the club now. Cost is $13 with one game of 18 ends starting at 1pm. Sunday, December 2: Col Allen and I are organising a social bowls morning including breakfast. Open pairs with details at the club. Prize money plus beer will be up for grabs. Cost will be $20 each. Memberships are now available for 2019. Fees are $95, which includes the Club Glass House membership. Pay by December 31 or you will need to complete a new membership form plus pay an extra $12.50 to Bowls Queensland. With two months for you all to pay, there is no excuse to be late. Also green fees for social games will be going up from $12 to $13 and competition fees will rise from $10 to $12. Like everything, things are getting more expensive so we have no choice but to increase fees. Most clubs are already charging $13-$15. Always try to get your name on a play sheet to avoid disappointment. Thursdays fill up fast. It is just over a month to our annual presentation luncheon, so keep Saturday, December 8 free in your diary.

Witta Tennis Contributed by Pauline Fraley The Wagtails were up against their old friends Kawana Kool Cats, with hot competition included on the day along with Carol’s dubious jokes. Kawana was too good on the day but it was a good day for tennis. Whistlers played at Witta against Caloundra Hot Chillies. It was good tennis as usual, but it was hot and everyone was glad when we finished. We had a good win with 42-23 games, 6-2 sets. Team was Liz Mellish, Brenda Warner, Donna Kuskopf and Aki Lepper. This was the last match for Liz - good luck for your new life in Victoria. The Wildcats were away to Nambour against ZTA Novas. The heat affected everyone but the ZTAs handled it better than we did. The team was Pauline, Annie, Jenie and Sonia Social tennis: Monday 8am and Saturday1pm all welcome. For court bookings phone 0437 295 501 or www.wittatennis.com.au.

Just for Laughs Why didn't the mummy have any friends? Because he was wrapped up in himself. What road has the most ghosts haunting it? A dead end. Why is there a gate around cemeteries? Because people are dying to get in. What position does a ghost play in soccer? Ghoulie. What monster plays tricks on Halloween? Prank-enstein. What room is useless for a ghost? A living room. What do sea monsters eat for lunch? Fish and ships. What do you call a skeleton who won't work? Lazy bones.
ARIES March 21 - April 20 The planet Venus will be in your opposite sign for the coming months and this will put you in contact again with someone, and asking where the partnership may be going. Domestic joys and accomplishments are favoured. Make improvements and good feelings abound. A long standing project now reaches finality. TAURUS April 21 – May 21 Use this week to reap fiscal rewards and shore up agreements. Consider dressing up in your most outrageous costume or hang out with some zany friends and enjoy your exciting Halloween. The planets Mercury and Jupiter join together in an open hearted, magnanimous way. This means your month rocks its climax now! GEMINI May 22 - June 23 Take note that there is a difference between self-confidence and those egotripping. When it comes to other people be sure to discern the difference. It is green lights all the way for you this week with the planets Venus and Uranus rocking in opposition. That means that you will get to pick a spooky Halloween costume. CANCER June 24 - July 22 The end of this October month says that you are to take up whatever is offered to you. If it is a reasonable offer say “yes”. It’s time for you to reap the bountiful benefits of supportive romantic relationships. The planets Mercury and Jupiter, joined together, means if no romance, then it is recreational excellence for you.

How do you make a skeleton laugh? Tickle her funny bone. Why did the vampire get thrown out of the haunted house? Because he was a pain in the neck. What did Dracula say about his girlfriend? It was love at first bite. Why did the vampire flunk art class? Because he could only draw blood. What do you get when you cross a teacher and a vampire? A blood test. What's the problem with twin witches? You can't tell which witch is which. What do you call witches who live together? Broom-mates.

LEO July 23 – August 22 Behind the scenes activities are favoured. You advance quickly and steadily by shunning the limelight and dealing constructively within sensible limitations. It’s a week to get a handle on pride, avoid allowing it to cause problems in your personal life. Because of a Venus/Uranus opposition you experience strange behaviour. VIRGO August 23 – September 22 Now that the Sun has entered Scorpio it shines a light on private talks, secrets and travels. You will find yourself following up recent discussions. You affect positive and productive results. Say “yes” to any reasonable invitations or proposals. Most news this week is positive, compelling and promotive. Sign some paper work now. LIBRA September 23 - October 22 There is still plenty of charm coming to you from a Venus/Sun conjunction. Then at month’s end extra benefits arrive via positive Mercury/Jupiter conjunction. This means that you take care of your needs directly and you refine any bucket list. There are plenty of green lights ahead for you as the month’s end sees a wild clothing spree. SCORPIO October 23 - November 22 You are well and truly now into your birthday month as the Scorpio Sun sign began close to the Full Moon last week. So this week stresses attention to working with influential companions. You look as though you are popular and mysterious. You are very happy to say “yes” to a special proposal. Dress in black for dinner.
SAGITTARIUS November 23 – December 22 You now have a better handle on home, family, security and expenses. It is best to keep ideas, news and confidences under your hat now. Soon Jupiter, the ruling planet of Sagittarius, will enter your sign and that will see tangible benefits to you for health, beauty and fitness. Venus arrives back in Libra on your “people-pleasing” sign now. CAPRICORN December 23 - January 19 From last week’s Taurus Full Moon life is still ready to enjoy fun and friendship. That should work well for Halloween. Perhaps you or a celebrating pal may want to dress in something outrageous. Don’t struggle with any obstacles, as the good news is that there is a great offer, or invitation, to which you can say “yes”! AQUARIUS January 20 - February 19 This is the week that you can be detective, lover, boss or colleague extraordinaire, with expansive life potential. You should see a surprising Halloween attraction, via perhaps a costume. At month’s end Venus is back in the Libran sign, bringing you new fantasies. Try to get some teamwork going, business or marital, now. PISCES February 20 - March 20 Whether the offer comes to you for love or travel, or again perhaps for a big settlement, say “yes”. It will expand your world intensely. Because the planet Mercury enters Sagittarius, avoid stepping forward too impulsively and hurting your ankle. When Venus comes back into Libra, the next week sees other mutual fantasies taking over.
