Most wonderful day of our lives

Hi Everyone

O

ver the past few weeks we have run an ad / request in a number of editions of Glasshouse Country News asking people to share with readers ‘their wedding stories’. And I have to say when I read the comment made by Kathy Hill of Whisper Photography that no two weddings are ever the same I realise just how right she is – when you hear or read details that people share about their weddings – you realise just how unique these events are. This isn’t about making wedding ceremonies whacky and weird, but it is about what is important to us as individual couples and the things in our lives that influence the choices we made, about each and every element of our special day. We are really pleased to include photos and stories from two Glass House Mountains couples who have both married this year. Emily and Corrie Wharton who married in Western Australia (where Emily’s family live) and Vance and Sandra who married right here in Glass House Mountains. Thanks to both couples who have shared details and photos about their weddings, letting us be a part of your important days. We hope that their stories and the rest of the Wedding Guide we have put together gives plenty of inspiration to local couples who are planning a wedding, thinking of getting married, or at least taking the first ‘scary step’ and getting engaged! And remember with Christmas on its way, this is a perfect time to think about buying an engagement ring. If you aren’t sure you are up to a big romantic proposal, you could always wrap a ring box up in Christmas paper and put a gift tag on with ‘What do you reckon’? However, for what it’s worth, I think it might be better going to a bit more effort! In our next wedding guide in February – we will be sharing stories of wedding proposals, both romantic and not so – so if you have a great story let me know, as we would love to include it. Regards,

Supplied by Emily Wharton Couple: Childhood sweethearts - Emily and Corrie Wharton Married: May 14, 2014 Our wedding took place in Dunsborough, Meelup beach, Western Australia about three hours south of Perth where I am originally from. Our families have been friends for years as our dads went to high school together in Perth. Our families used to holiday together and kept in touch throughout the years. Corrie and I grew closer together and kept in touch and then started a long distance relationship. During this time, I would come and visit Corrie on my holidays and stay with his family, who at that time lived in the beautiful Glass House Mountains where they had lived for 17 years. Since then we have travelled the world together, lived in Perth with my family for a while, and then lived and worked in Dublin, Ireland. I then made the move to the Sunshine Coast where we now live. In the lead up to our wedding day, we organised everything for our wedding in Perth via correspondence. A few months before the wedding, we went over to Perth for a holiday, where I bought my dress with my mum and sister and also viewed the beach where our wedding would take place. Our wedding was very small and intimate with only our immediate family attending. The day was everything we had both dreamed of, and was the happiest day of our lives. During our ceremony we released two monarch butterflies to symbolise our love for each other and each guest also received a coloured balloon to release. We honeymooned in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Hawaii. Photography by Real Image Photography

Keeping it local made for a great day Details supplied by Vance Neaves Couple: Sandra and Vance Neaves Married: September 13, 2014 Many Glass House Mountains locals will recognise Vance, well maybe not in his suit, but in his usual day wear which is a Hawaiian shirt. The stylish he wore for the wedding is in dramatic ves suit a e N e c contrast to his uniform when he is behind n a V Sanny and the bar at Club Glasshouse. After a two-year engagement, Vance and Sanny married recently at a ceremony at the Glasshouse Sports Club surrounded by lots of family and friends. Initially they thought about having a beach wedding in Caloundra, however when working through the practicalities of how the day would pan out – they decided to stay local and avoid the hassle of transport and travelling to the coast. Sanny didn’t go with the traditional white gown, but chose a gorgeous pale pink frock and headpiece reminiscent of a 1920s style. The Wedding car kept with the theme, it was a 1928 Graham Paige Stretch Limo, supplied by Suncoast Vintage Limousines, and it made for a perfect prop to include in the wedding photos. They had a friend photograph the wedding in the beautifully decorated gazebo at the sports club which was followed by photos up at the Glass House Mountains Lookout - which is always a spectacular backdrop.

Jo Jones, another Glass House Mountains local and friend, made their personalised cake. Jo has been making cakes for family and friends for the past three years however she is particularly proud of this one. Jo is currently setting up a business called ‘World of Cake’ and you can contact her on 0414 530 978. The couple didn’t head off on a honeymoon after the wedding, choosing to spend the time with their guests who had travelled from other parts of the state, and the country. However, they did manage one night at the Hideaway at Beerwah and are now planning and saving for a delayed honeymoon overseas next year. Congratulations to Vance and Sanny and thanks for sharing your story and photos with us.

At Whisper Images it’s all about you

By Lea Parkes When you talk to professional photographer Kathy Hill, owner of Whisper Images, one thing she will tell you is that no two weddings are alike, so the wedding photography for every couple will always be different. Whisper Images is a small, personal, exclusive studio, that does a limited number of weddings per year. This means that when you book Whisper Images for your wedding, you get personalised service and right from the start you’ll be dealing with the people that will be there on your day. Kathy describes the initial consultation with clients as relaxed, allowing them to discuss their plans and design a time schedule for the day. “So many couples are surprised how much time is taken up on the wedding day by travelling, greeting guests and the other many tasks required, and don’t actually allow for this in their original plans,” Kathy said. Kathy will walk through the timing and get it sorted so your day is as relaxed and streamlined as possible. It is nearly impossible to do Whisper Images product and range justice by phone, email or on their website, so it is best to make an appointment to come to our home/studio in Peachester, said Kathy. This way you can see the range of suitable options which can be tailored to your likes, wants and desires. You can also rely on their extensive local knowledge which is a real advantage when choosing locations. Contact Kathy at Whisper Images by phoning her on 5494 9555 or 0409 049 074 or check out her website www.whisperimages.com.au

Wedding Guide | September 2014

Getting off to the right start GCNews asked Peachester Marriage Celebrant Margarita Priori-Smith what advice she gives couples about choosing the person to perform your marriage ceremony and this is what she shared with us. Couples can either ask a pastor to marry them or engage the services of a registered civil marriage celebrant (please ensure your civil marriage celebrant is registered). While there are many celebrants to choose from, each one has their own special interest and personality. Choose your celebrant with care as you are entrusting this person to create and conduct one of the most treasured and important ceremonies of your life. A good celebrant will conduct ceremonies where the couple and their guests feel enriched. They will have a passion for what they do, care about the role they play and will feel strongly about the importance of marriage. They will incorporate your values and beliefs and work with you in creating an outstanding ceremony that reflects your vision for the day. A couple should speak to the marriage celebrant as soon as they have set a date as legally the paperwork has to be done at least one month before the actual date. You may meet with a number of Celebrants before choosing the one that is right for you. Once a couple has chosen a celebrant, a meeting is arranged so that they can get to know each other and discuss the couple’s ideas for their special day. The celebrant may also provide them with a ceremony guide that includes examples of vows, verses and readings, as well as information on how to write their own vows, if they wish to do so. It’s best to have someone with experience and someone you feel completely comfortable with. I love what I do - I am a full-time, registered Civil Marriage Celebrant. Weddings are not just my business, they are my passion, said Margarita. I have an artistic background with attention to detail and I am very flexible when it comes to people ... and the weather. It is a joy and a pleasure for me to be a part of a couple’s special day, she adds. Whether you choose a pastor or civil marriage celebrant, your ceremony should be meaningful and a touching start to your wedding day.
