Glass reactors can be divided into different types, such as single and double glass reactor as well as glass lined reactor. As the name suggested, jacketed glass reactor features a cooking or heating ‘jacket’ around the vessel and it is designed for controlling the temperature of its contents. The jacket is a key part for glass lined reactor due to it can permit the uniform exchange of heat between the fluid circulating in it and the walls of the vessel. In general, jackets can be divided into several types, include conventional jacket, half-pile coil jacket, dimple jacket, and plate coil, according to the design. Different jackets have their special features and usages, for example: conventional jacket can create an annular space within which cooling or cooling or heating medium flows. However, a simple conventional jacket is very inefficient of heat transfer because the flow media has an extremely low velocity resulting in a low heat transfer coefficient due to no internal components. Another type, half-pipe coil jacket, its pipes are split lengthwise and wound around the vessel and welded in the place. The dimple jacket often has a thin external shell which is affixed to the vessel shell with welds located in a regular to pattern; and these dimples have ability to impart turbulence to the heating or cooling media due to it flows through the jacket. The plate coil, is very similar to the dimple jacket, is slightly less efficient than dimple jacket due to there are is a double layer of metal for the heat to traverse; this type also is used to prevent an insulating gap between the plate coil and the vessel. In addition to be used in the process of chemical reaction, jacketed reactors also can be used to reduce the viscosity of high viscous fluids. Certainly, above single and double reactors also are very popular and useful in many fields. In a word, many types of reactors can provide customers more options.
