Nambitha Restaurant, (nambitha – to taste in isiXhosa), the most popular upmarket eatery in the heart of Soweto, serves soul food recipes with a touch of à la carte making it the ideal venue for Sunday luncheons. The restaurant is located in the historical Vilakazi Street, in the vicinity of former President Nelson Mandela’s house and Hector Peterson’s Museum. Vilakazi Street is named after the revolutionary BW Vilakazi, who was the author of the English/Zulu Translated Dictionary. Their menu is really diverse with Western and African cuisine that includes appetising and delicious malamogodu (tripe) served with spinach and pumpkin. All their main meals are also served with either pap, rice, samp or dumplings.
