Children’s Classes and Programs Camps

Camps at Glen Echo Park are the perfect way to encourage your budding artist. From Spring Break to Summer camps programs, there’s something for your aspiring artist or performer. See our Summer Camps-at-a-Glance section on pages x–x for program information. In the digital version of the catalog you can click on the camp you are interested in, and it will take you directly to the registration page. After-Camp programs extend the day until 6pm from Monday through Friday. See page xx for additional information about After-Camp.

Be creative this spring break! Have fun with fundamentals, such as shape, line, and texture. Create fantastic artwork: self-portraits, silkscreen prints, marbleized paper, recycled material sculptures, fossils, and terracotta animals. We have time for self-directed artmaking as well! Teen Smith Spring Break Camp AM (Ages 13-17)

Be immersed in this traditional craft in the unique environment of a working artist’s studio. Learn from practicing artist, Blair Anderson, a hands-on approach to silversmithing techniques. Come learn and improve your drawing skills using various Pencils, Pastels and Sumi ink. Daily demos on drawing animals, fgures and nature, and just drawing from your imagination! Create your own original characters, caricatures, one-panel gag cartoons and comic strips. Experiment with pen-andink techniques, create fip-books and play around with all the elements of a cartoon: fgure and background drawing, perspective, lighting, lettering, composition and dialogue. Get ready campers for four days of movie madness! Design and build your own original character from professional animation clay. Create a background setting with foam board, found objects, and mixed media. Use Sculpey™ and glow-in-the-dark clay to give your creation unique details. Using Final Cut Pro, students learn basic and advanced stop-motion techniques, animation, and sound design, adding sound efects and dialog to the class production. Artful adventures in calligraphy for the budding artist plus nature frolics throughout the park. Create impressive works of fantasy and folk arts combining letterforms and iconic motifs. 2-D and 3-D multimedia creations depict life through eyes of a child and letterforms spanning millennia and the globe. This summer, enhance your understanding and appreciation of the great outdoors! Your child can create fantastic nature inspired sculptures, landscape paintings on real canvas, and so much more. We will focus on our local fora and fauna and create works of art inspired by the wildlife around us. At the Carousel of Animals Camp, your teen will create a life-sized papier maché; carousel animal or a miniature carousel. This camp is a great option for the teen who’s interested in engineering, design, and getting their hands dirty. Set Designer Pro Prep Mini Maquette

Bring your unique vision creating a miniature 3 scene maquette of your favorite book/flm/play. Set Designer/ Painter instructor provides assistance and daily tutorials for sample boards you keep. Hands on individual creative time is the bulk of this fun camp. Daily mockups you create give you the experience to scale up to production size depiction of skies, foors, marble, trees, and more. Learn the basics of communicating ideas efectively, how the Director and your set team can work together efciently and safely. Refabulous Runway Foundations

Unleash your inner fashionista. Learn seasoned designer/ brand processes. Create your logo, solidify your style then up-cycle. From sketchbook to runway, transform existing garments from home and a few supplied by the instructor. You will learn tried and true techniques to create wearable garments that are YOU. Use paint, dye, bling, cutouts, patch, stencil in individual and group challenges. Bring your sewing kit or use our supplies. Machine-sew at home or our assistant will sew in class. Campers produce a Friday fashion show open to family attendance. Mandatory dress over swimwear or bike shorts for ease in trying on clothes. Supply fee of $50 payable to instructor.
