nominated for Nobel Prize "Yes [the President deserves it], if you ask me, it would be an honor for the Philippines to have President Aquino nominated. It is, in the eyes of the international community, a big
milestone for the promotion and propagation of peace," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said at a televised press briefing on Monday. Lacierda also again denied that the Palace is lobbying for the nomination of Aquino. He added, however, that it is "quite probable" that some groups would nominate the President. But the Palace official said they do not know these people who may be lobbying for Aquino's nomination. "It is probable that some
others who have felt that there has been no significant peace accord reached since Aceh and that the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro was a step forward in promoting peace," Lacierda said. Lacierda noted that the signing of the final annex of the Bangsamoro deal had an "overwhelming" positive response from the international community. Also, when the comprehensive agreement was completed, it was "warmly received."
"We now see a hope for Muslim Mindanao, that finally, there will be an institution that will help solve the peace problem in Mindanao and improve the economic situation," Lacierda said of the Bangsamoro agreement. The CAB was signed in March, concluding 17 years of negotiations between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Following this achievement,

MANILA (June 30)Philippine and US troops held naval drills near a military outpost in Zambales province, south of Manila, on Monday as part of its annual joint exercises. Naval platoons from the Philippines and U.S. forces conducted an amphibious raid simulation at an uninhabited coastline using two Landing Craft Air Cushions (LCAC) and five assault amphibious vehicles to deploy their troops at a beach. The six-day Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT)
exercises are aimed at improving amphibious operations, special operations and surface warfare, besides enhancing information-sharing, the Philippine Navy said. "What we wanted to know are the new tactics, techniques and procedures, most especially on the amphibious part," he said. About 1,000 troops and five warships, including a U.S. guidedmissile destroyer, participated in the annual exercises which started on Thursday (June 26) on the western shores of Zambales.
On Saturday (June 28), both navies held naval drills about 75 nautical miles from the Philippine coastline and participated in live-firing exercises. The Philippine Navy has said the drills were a regular

Jinggoy in handwritten letter: No hard evidence against me
MANILA (June 30)- Senator Jinggoy Estrada on Monday maintained his innocence on the plunder and graft charges filed by the government against him in connection with the pork barrel scam. In a hand-written statement he read after the arraignment at the Fifth Division of the Sandiganbayan for his plunder and graft charges, Estrada insisted that government prosecutors have a weak case against him. "Wala silang kaso at walang matibay na ebensya laban sa akin," Estrada said. He also questioned why the Ombudsman's Office of the Special Prosecutors tried to amend the charge sheet it filed before the Sandiganbayan. Estrada said it was a virtual
admission of the state prosecutors of their mistake in filing plunder and graft cases against him "Inaamin nila na mali sila at depektibo ang kaso," the senator said. During the arraignment, the Fifth Division entered a plea of not guilty for Estrada after he refused to enter any plea to the plunder and graft charges. Associate Justice Roland Jurado, 5th Division chairperson, announced after the arraignment that the Court will come out with the request of the Estrada camp to be allowed to post bail. Estrada is now detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame. Philstar
China slams Philippines for ‘non-stop’ talk on rule of law MANILA (June 30)— China is again turning the tables on countries accusing it of violating international law for its perceived aggression in the disputed South China Sea. In a press conference, a transcript of which was released over the weekend, China Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang reacted to the statement of President Benigno Aquino III and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that the disputes in the East and South China Seas should be resolved according to the rule of law. "It is worth noting that recently some countries keep taking provocative actions and stirring things up, and at the meantime, they just cannot stop talking about the rule of law with a purpose of threatening and smearing China and swaying the public opinion," Qin said. The Chinese official also wants to know which provision of international laws China has violated as claimed by the Philippines and Japan. "Since some countries are so fond of the 'rule of law,' then I wonder what on earth is the 'rule of law' that they keep talking about?" Qin asked. Insisting that they do not accept the arbitration proceedings initiated by the Philippines, Qin claimed that China has been exercising the lawful right "to

Qin is advising countries embroiled in the territorial disputes to look over their own violations of international laws.

I'd like to advise these countries to check their own doings against international laws and the basic norms governing international relations," Qin said. Philstar
How pork scam case will affect 2016 elections MANILA (June 30) -- Political analysts believe the pork scam will be a make-or-break issue for the 2016 elections, specifically for the administration candidate. In an interview with dzMM on Saturday, University of the Philippines professor Prospero de Vera said the ball is in the hands of the government. "If they bungle the job, then they’re in for a surprise,” he warned, noting that the pork scam issue is merely a “teaser” and many things could still happen between now and 2016. Nonetheless, by the indi-
cations of what is happening now, “a lot of them are nervous,” he added. De Vera pointed out the amendments introduced to the plunder charges filed against Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., and Juan Ponce Enrile. While the Ombudsman eventually dropped the plans, this led some to think that the case against the three lawmakers could be weak. Furthermore, the three senators are expected to continue complaining of the persecution they are allegedly experiencing in the hands of the government. Philstar

DBM releases SARO for purchase of 12 fighter jets MANILA (June 30)- The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has released the special allotment release order (SARO) for the 12 lead-in fighter trainer jets to be acquired by the government from South Korea that will pave the way for the implementation of the P18.9billion project. Defense Undersecretary Fernando Manalo confirmed that the SARO for the acquisition of the FA-50s was issued by the DBM on June 24. “With the SARO, the secretary of national defense can now issue the notice to proceed or NTP,” Manalo told The STAR over the weekend. “The NTP, once received and concurred with by the supplier, will be the start of the contract implementation.” The Philippine government and Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. (KAI) signed the contract for the procurement of 12 lead-in fighter trainer jets last March. The project, the biggest item in the military’s upgrade program, aims to enhance the territorial defense capabilities of the Philippine Air Force. The Philippines had been trying to improve its military capability amid territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea. The delivery of the FA-50s will start 18 months after the opening of the letter of credit,
a document that assures the Korean company that the Philippines will fulfill its obligations. The delivery of the fighter jets is expected to be completed by 2017. FA-50s have fighter capabilities but have features that are different from more advanced fighter jets. Its design was drafted from Lockheed F-16 fighter jet. Lead-in trainer jets, on the other hand, are used to prepare pilots for more advanced air assets. The multibillion-peso contract is a product of about six months of negotiations between Philippine defense officials and KAI. The funds for the project will come from the Revised Armed Forces Modernization Program signed by President Aquino in 2012. The government is also planning to acquire weapons and basing support for the FA-50s. According to the defense department, the munitions for the lead-in fighter trainer jets will require P4.5 billion. Earlier reports said the jets could be armed with precision guided bombers and air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles. Officials had earlier said that the munitions may be acquired through negotiated bid and public bidding. The basing support for the fighter jets, on the other hand, will require P135.99 million. Ombudsman withdraws motion to amend Enrile charge sheet MANILA (June 30)- Government prosecutors on Monday said they will also withdraw their request for the Sandiganbayan to allow them to change some words on the original plunder charge against Senator Juan Ponce Enrile. In its motion to withdraw before the anti-graft court's 3rd Division, the Office of the Special Prosecutor said it will no longer pursue to effect such amendments on the original information against Enrile. State lawyers noted that they decided to forego amending the information on the charge sheet after similar requests have been filed by the prosecution before the First and Fifth Divisions of the Sandiganbayan, handling the plunder cases of Senators Ramon Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada, respectively. "Issues rose during said hearings and the processes it could have entailed for all involved to file their respective
responsive pleadings such as comments and oppositions, or even motions, became a consideration," the prosecution said in the motion. "Hence, the prosecution has decided to no longer pursue the proposed amendment for being only an amendment in form, and to simply withdraw the subject manifestation with motion to admit amended information," the prosecutors added. The prosecution panel also requested the Court to cancel the scheduled July 1 hearing on its previous motion. Earlier, the First Division had denied the substantial changes on the plunder case against Revilla while the government prosecutors handling the similar case against Estrada withdrew their request to amend the charge sheet after being warned by the Fifth Division that the motion may lead to the release of the senator. In a memorandum approved

When asked about adoption, I explain the process and provide a personal opinion on what they might want to consider doing. The process of adopting can be very long -- one could expect at least three years and, in many cases, it often takes much longer than that. But in the end, the rewards are well worth the effort. It involves many steps including having to deal with the courts, immigration, and appropriate government departments including child services both in Canada and in the Philippines.

Enough evidence?
AS there a plan to rush the filing of plunder cases against the three senators along with Janet LimNapoles and other accused? Or was the filing a result of pressure from an impatient civil society? After all, the plunder cases were filed at the Sandiganbayan days after the June 12 rally. I am asking this because government prosecutors apparently erred in also filing plunder against Napoles when she is not a government employee. This was magnified when the prosecutors, after saying they took time to study the evidences, sought to amend the charges. Remember the initial bungling by the prosecution panel at the Senate trial against then chief justice Renato Corona? Fortunately for the prosecution, the evidence against CJ Corona was very strong and the prosecution got their acts together to prevent the defense
With three senators and more politicians linked to the Napoles scam, it would be very difficult to keep politics and propaganda out. Perhaps, we also need to insulate the Sandiganbayan hearings panel from striking most of it from the records. In the end, the defense collapsed when CJ Corona himself could not adequately defend himself on the stand. In an ironic twist, then Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile is now one of the senators accused of plunder along with Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla.
COMMENTARY Though I am not a lawyer, I can understand that their defense panels (including their media and political operators) would pounce on the prosecution’s motion to amend the charges. They are claiming the move showed the prosecution’s case was rushed and the evidence weak. Reports say the Revilla camp would move for the dismissal of the plunder charges filed against him. I, however, tell myself that these are still opening skirmishes. In a chess game, we can say the defense gained an advantage. An opponent’s opening advantages could be

Still a laggard
OUTHEAST Asia’s fastest growing economy also posted the biggest growth in foreign direct investment last year. The latest World Investment Report prepared by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development showed that FDI grew by 24 percent in the Philippines in 2013. That was larger than the 19 percent growth posted by Malaysia, Indonesia’s 17 percent and Singapore’s five percent. FDI was flat in Vietnam while it contracted by 12 percent in Thailand amid the political turbulence. In terms of value of investments, however, the Philippines received the lowest FDI in the region, netting $3.9 billion. That was paltry compared to Thailand, which attracted $12.95 billion in FDI, according to the UNCTAD report. Tiny Singapore remained the investors’ regional favorite, drawing a whopping $63.77 billion in FDI. Indonesia followed with $18.44 billion and then Thailand. Malaysia drew $12.31 billion while Vietnam got $8.9 billion.

I
AM often asked about how a person can adopt a child from the Philippines. Typically the conversation starts with someone saying that he/ she has a sister or brother in the Philippines and would like to be able to adopt a niece or nephew. I can understand why some people would want to do this. After all, I know how important family is to Filipinos and how they love and wish to help a family member in the Philippines.
OPINION
13
MONGAYA, 29
UNCTAD’s report, whose theme is “investing in the sustainable development goals,” noted that 54 percent of global FDI last year, or about $778 billion, went to developing countries. With that figure, the Philippines’ $3.9 billion was just a drop in the bucket. Analysts have cited the Philippines’ renewed growth trajectory, and the country remains one of the best economic performers in Asia. Business confidence is still high, so the government should determine what is preventing this confidence – plus the country’s investment grade – from translating into significant levels of investment. The administration has often said that it wants economic growth – the second fastest in Asia – to be inclusive. One way of achieving this is by creating meaningful jobs, which can be generated by significant levels of investment. For several years now, business groups have submitted long lists of recommendations to the government for making the nation more investment-friendly. The country is not lacking in models; it’s in a neighborhood full of competitive economies. Yet the Philippines continues to lag behind the region’s strongest economies in terms of FDI. The UNCTAD report should spur more urgent action to remove the country’s tag as a regional laggard in investment. Philstar

ANY frustrated people seem to always fight the clock. They stay up late then they sleep as late as they can and then rush frantically to school or work, gulping down an unhealthy breakfast in the car, applying their make-up at the stoplight, talking on their cell phone at the same time. They think they are so busy they have to rush, rush, and rush everywhere. They work 60 hours a week and complain that they don’t have enough time to worship or to spend time with their family. I am amazed that JESUS never seemed to be in a hurry. Although He was doing the most important job in history (redeeming the world), and although He knew He only had a few years to do it, He never ran. He made time to consider the flowers and the birds of the air. He had time to put his hands on the little children and bless them. Time was His friend. The Bible gives us some great insight into how time can become your friend rather than your enemy. Basically, God exists in a realm that is not bound by time or space. God doesn’t wear a Rolex or even a Timex. He doesn’t have an alarm clock or a Palm Pilot. He is the Creator of time, and He is greater than time. So, the first step in making time your friend is to totally immerse your life in God. In Psalm 90, we read: “Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God… (verse 4): For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night… (verse 10): The length of our days is seventy years - or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their

Takot silang makipag kaibigan at magtiwala. Dahil action speaks louder than words. One person at a time, sa ganitong paraan ay pwede nating makitang mapalapit ang bawat mamamayan ng Canada sa Diyos.

Shout Out span is but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away… (verse 12): teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” The four letters in the word TIME will help us to learn about the importance of family TIME. I. TREASURE! God says we should treasure time as a valuable commodity. You number your years, but God says every day is so precious, we should treasure it and number it. How valuable is an hour? Ask the businessman whose flight was delayed an hour and he missed an important business deal. How valuable is one minute? How valuable is a second? Ask the person who hesitated for a second before swerving to avoid the oncoming car. How valuable is a fraction of a second? Ask the Olympic swimmer who missed qualifying by six-tenths of a second. Time really is valuable. So learn a couple of things about what this means for your family: 1. The most valuable asset to share with your family is your time Mga magulang mahal nyo ba ang inyong mga anak? Give them the gift of your time.
The time you spend with your family should be enjoyable. It should be the best time of your life. Here is a couple of ways to enjoy your family time. Husbands and wives, give each other the precious blessing of time. Sadly, many parents spell love “T.H.I.N.G.S” but children spell love “T.I.M.E.” I can honestly say I can’t remember a single thing my father ever bought me when I was a kid. But I remember our fishing and hunting trips together. Parents: give the gift of time to your children. Husbands and wives give each other your time; it’s the perfect gift for every occasion! I read the heartbreaking story of a little boy whose dad was always busy working. One day the boy asked, “Dad, how much money do you earn in an hour?” The impatient dad said, “I don’t know, I guess I make about $50 an hour when I’m working, now don’t bother me.” After a couple of weeks of doing odd jobs around his neighborhood, the little boy approached his dad one evening and said, “Dad, here’s $25. Can I buy 30 minutes of your time so we can play together?” Aray. 2. You can make more money but you can’t make more time Have you ever heard the expression, “time is money?” It’s not true. Time is much more valuable than money. It may be hard to make more money, but it can be done. But it is totally impossible to make more time. TIME is more valuable than money. A.W. Tozer wrote: “Time is a resource that is non-renewable and non-transferable. You cannot store it, slow it up, hold it up, divide it up or give it up. You can’t hoard
it up or save it for a rainy day– when it’s lost its unrecoverable. When you kill time, remember that it has no resurrection.” So, understand that you should treasure time as the most valuable asset you are given in this world. The next letter in TIME is: II. INVEST! We use a lot of phrases with time that aren’t really possible. You can’t buy more time and you can’t really find more time. We speak of making time, but that’s impossible, too. 1. You can’t save time - you only invest it Time is more valuable than money, but it’s like money in that it can be spent and invested. It’s different from money though, because while money can be saved, time can’t. It you don’t use it, you lose it. Forever. In the early 1970s Jim Croce wrote a song that said, “If I could save time in a bottle, the first thing that I’d like to do, is to save every day ‘till eternity passes away–just to spend them with you.” Those are great lyrics, and it would be nice if we could save time, but you can’t. In fact, a few months after he wrote that song, he was tragically killed in a plane crash in Natchitoches, Louisiana at the age of 30. You can’t save time. We have all kinds of time saving appliances like microwave ovens. Guys love to take short cuts in order to “save time.” Show me some of the time you’ve saved–where is it? You can’t save it you can only
spend it and invest it. You and I aren’t promised a fresh supply tomorrow, so we must invest it wisely while we have it. Where are you investing most of your time? 2. Where you invest your time reveals what is most important to you. There are 168 hours in each week. The average person will spend about 56 of those hours sleeping, about 24 of those hours in eating and personal hygiene, and about 50 of those hours working or traveling to work. That means there are only about 35 hours a week of “discretionary” time left over. That’s about 5 hours per day. Where are investing those hours? If I were to follow you around and observe you for those 5 hours, after about 10 days, I could tell you what is most important in your life. You might not like it, or agree with it, but for some of you, surfing the Internet is most important to you. For others of you, watching television, or reading magazines is what’s most important. How much of that discretionary time are you devoting to your Lord? How much are you devoting to your family? Have you ever heard this excuse? Some dad or mom will say, “I don’t spend much time with my family, but the little time I do spend is ‘quality time.’” I don’t really like that phrase, because it is most often used as an excuse for not spending much time together. “Quality time” is really a misnomer, because all time has the same quality. Consider this second…was it of higher quality than the previous second…or of this second right now? It’s like talking about “quality money.” If I offered you a hundred dollar bill, would you say, “No, it’s wrinkled.” I’d

The Special Edition
SUBARU
BRZ
S
UBARU seems to be milking the angst among fans of the BRZ by giving buyers what they don’t exactly want.
This latest special edition BRZ exemplifies this notion—despite the fact that it’s a special edition model, it still fails to be every thing that potential BRZ buyers actually want, a force-induced BRZ. Either way, this new Series Blue Special Edition model is limited to only 1,000 units and features a variety of enhancements to improve aerodynamics and overall appearance. For instance, the Subaru BRZ comes with red-painted brake calipers, STI-branded black alloy wheels, a bespoke interior trim, and the option of only two colors: WR Blue Pearl or Crystal White Pearl. Set to arrive in dealerships in July, the 2.0L Boxer flat-four remains unchanged, providing 200hp for the right foot to use (which is still more than adequate!). Also new is the inclusion of a new shark fin antenna and stainless steel exhaust tips.

PIOLO PASCUAL MAKES HIS RETURN TO TV DRAMA
New series “Hawak Kamay” reaches out to the modern day Filipino family HOW much can the life of a drunkard and aspiring musician change when he finds himself left with the responsibility of acting as a father to three adopted children? This is what ABS-CBN’s newest family drama, “Hawak Kamay,” will be taking on as it hits TV screens to reach out to modern day Filipino families. The series is set to take off with acclaimed actor Piolo Pascual at the helm, who will be making a much-anticipated return to television drama following the success of his movie “Starting Over Again” earlier this year. Piolo stars in “Hawak Kamay” along with three of the country’s most powerful child stars, Zaijan Jaranilla, Andrea Brillantes,
and Xyriel Manabat. The series will also introduce Grand i-Shiner Yesha Camille, who was under the mentorship of Piolo during her stint in the second season of the Promil Pre-School i-Shine Talent Camp. Taking on the role as a father in “Hawak Kamay,” Piolo has expressed the kind of connection he feels with the country’s young stars, especially being a single parent himself. “I like working with children because I kind of see myself in them,” he said in an interview with TV Patrol. “Hawak Kamay” details the story of a beat down man named Gin (Piolo Pascual), who has dreams of making it big as a musician and is faced with various challenges that may make or break his belief in himself and in the value of the relationships. He
begins the story by the side of the woman he loves, Me-ann (Nikki Gil), and is joined by three parentless children, Emong (Zaijan Jaranilla), Harriet (Xyriel Manabat), and Ningning (Yesha Camille). Their situation unfolds under the watchful eye of the estate executor, Atty. Bianca Magpantay (Iza Calzado). As time passes and the situation grows deeper, Gin finds himself developing a different sort of attachment to the three children, and decides to get his act together for them. Brazil beats Chile in shootout at World Cup BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil — Brazil advanced to the World Cup quarterfinals on Saturday with a 3-2 shootout win over Chile following a tense and thrilling battle that ended 1-1 after extra time. Neymar, David Luiz and Marcelo scored in the shootout, and Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar saved two penalties before
watching Gonzalo Jara's final attempt hit the post. "My teammates are giving me a lot of strength on the field so I give my best," Cesar said. "We're just three steps away and I hope to give another interview with Brazil partying." Brazil, which extended its 39-year unbeaten streak in home competitive matches
to 61, will next face either Colombia or Uruguay in the quarterfinals. Neither team managed to score at the Mineirao Stadium after first-half goals from Luiz and Sanchez, but Brazil came close to an early exit when Mauricio Pinilla's shot hit the crossbar in the final moments of extra time. Chile also had the best chance in the second half, when Cesar's spectacular save on Charles Aranguiz's shot kept the score even. Brazil has reached the
quarterfinals of each World Cup since Argentina eliminated it in the second round in 1990. Getting knocked out at that stage in its own World Cup would have been a disaster. But the Brazilians overcame their nerves in the shootout, with Neymar scoring the final penalty after Cesar stopped spot kicks from Pinilla and Sanchez.

Is Priscilla Meirelles willing to be Janice de Belen’s
friend?
How does it feel to be the friend of your husband’s ex-wife? Priscilla Meirelles, Yahoo Celebrity 2014 Male Kontrabida of the Year nominee John Estrada’s wife, will never know. She doesn’t see herself cozying up to her husband’s ex spouse, Janice de Belen. “Medyo weird if ako ang maging best friend ng ex (ni John). I don’t aspire to be her friend or best friend. Baka may situation na may comment na hindi ko gusto e. I respect her as my husband’s ex-wife and the mom of his kids.” No meddling But the finalist of TV5’s Celebrity Dance Bat tle, which will have its final showdown on Saturday, June 28, 9 p.m., will never keep John from talking to Janice. As the mother of a two year old girl, Priscilla knows how crucial parental suppor t is to a child. Priscilla doesn’t mind it when John and Janice talk over the phone about their daughter Inah’s showbiz projects, her first car, etc. The former beauty queen even likes John’s kids by Janice because they're “nice and welleducated.”
Bonding moments In fact, Priscilla joins them in the Cavite rest house she shares with John. “We swim, run, watch movies. Most of the time, we go out for dinner.” Rosy as her married life seems to be, Priscilla admits her three-year union with John is no bed of roses.
She is Brazilian; he, Filipino. They have cultural dif ferences. “Tradi tional ang family ko while John grew up in showbiz. Matagal siya naging single. I need to tell him how I feel, my expectations,” says Priscilla. Look, yes; touch, no She admits her husband looks at beautiful women longer than she thinks he should. So Priscilla reminds him, “Oy, oy enough na. Masyado ka nang tumitingin. Akala na niya (the woman) gusto mo siya, na mas maganda siya sa akin.” Priscilla lets John look at beautiful ladies, provided he remembers her no-touch policy. “Hindi ako nagseselos kung looking lang. Pag touching na, iba ang reaction ko.” Priscilla expects John to respect her as his wife. “You need to take care of your wife,” she reminds him.
Adjustments The former beaut y queen, in turn, has learned to be patient for John’s sake. “Malandi ang asawa ko in a friendly way,” she notes. So she understands him. Priscilla has grown spiritually, thanks to John. She became a Christian and got closer to the pastor who presided over their wedding. John appreciates Priscilla’s ef for ts. Before she bid John good-bye to go to TV5’s Celebrity Dance Bat tle presscon a few days ago, the loving husband asked Priscilla to give him a kiss.

children from Ukraine. Now they have expanded into Eastern Europe. Imagine deciding to adopt a child today and within a few months, the adopted child is able to come and live with you in your home here in Canada (these are orphaned children). That does happen today and I never before realized that fact. It got me thinking about why this system of adoption seems to be far more successful at completing the adoption process so efficiently and quickly. As it turns out, there is a good reason. International adoptions, where the child being adopted is an orphan and where the state in question is solely responsible for the child, will be processed in a more expeditious

rather have that new, crisp $5 because it’s of better quality.” Hello. I prefer the phrase “fun family time” or “meaningful family time” but there is no substitute for investing a large quantity of time with your family. If they are important, you’ll indicate it by the amount of discretionary time you give them. The next letter in family TIME is: III. MANAGE! A time management expert was teaching a seminar for executives. He placed a large, clear open-mouthed jar in front of the group. Next, he put seven or eight large rocks into the jar until it was full. “Is the jar full?” He asked. Everyone nodded. Then he took pebbles and filled up the jar with the small rocks until they reached the rim. “Is the jar full?” By now, they didn’t answer. So, he poured fine
manner. When I reflect on the many years that I have been assisting people regarding a wide range of immigration issues, I can not recall being approached by anyone who wants to adopt an orphaned child from the Philippines, specifically a child who absolutely has no biological relationship living in the Philippines. I have an idea and I want to first share it with the readers of Ang Peryodiko. I would like to explore the possibility of establishing a non-profit board that would explore the feasibility of facilitating the international adoption of children from the Philippines. I have no idea in terms of the potential demand or the number of people who may be interested in adopting a child from the Philippines. If you are interested in this, please let me know by email kevin@ mpkevin.ca.(www.mpkevin.ca) sand in. “Is the jar full?” Some nodded. He proceeded to take a pitcher of water and filled up the jar again. “What’s the lesson about time management?” he asked. Hands shot up, and everyone agreed “No matter how busy you are you can always fit more things into your schedule.” “Wrong.” he replied. “The lesson is: unless you put the big rocks in first, they never will fit in. You must figure out what the big rocks are for you.” What are the big rocks in your life? Giving time to God? Giving time to your marriage and to your children? If you don’t put those big rocks in first, someone else will fill up your jar. Understand: 1. Every moment is a gift from God that must be managed wisely The Bible uses another word. Instead of managing your time, it speaks of redeeming the time, which is an even better idea. Paul writes: “See then that
MANILA – Jessy Mendiola broke down in tears when she finally saw her father again af ter 14 years of not being together. In her Instagram account on Sunday, Mendiola posted a picture of her and her half-British father. The 21-year-old actress said she could not help but cry when they hugged each other because unlike other fathers and children, they weren’t for tunate to spend time together for a very long time. “I couldn't help but cry when I saw him again. No words can explain how much I missed my Papa. When he saw me he just hugged me so tight, I couldn't breathe. First words that came out of his mouth was ‘My Princess’ and that was it, I lost it,” she said. Mendiola said she is grateful that they were given another chance to see each other again. “I forgot where I was and cried like a child, thanking God he gave me another chance to see him again. MANILA – The girlfriend of Jake Cuenca does not mind being compared to Jessy Mendiola, who was previously cour ted by the actor. In an interview with ABS-CBN News and other repor ters on Saturday, Australian model Chanel Olive Thomas said she takes it as a compliment when people tell her she looks like the “Maria Mercedes” actress. “To be honest, she’s maganda right? So it’s not like it’s negative. So I thank you for saying that. But being from Australia, it’s a dif ferent upbringing… coming here it’s always like you’re going to get compared to a pret ty girl. It’s not negative. It’s more like positive. And we have dif ferent personalities,” she said. Last month, Mendiola likewise said she is flat tered to be compared to Cuenca’s girlfriend saying the Australian model is very beautiful. “Maganda kaya yung girlfriend niya, parang ang layo naman. Very model, maganda siya,” she said. Thomas said she and Mendiola have yet to meet. LOVE STORY WITH JAKE Meanwhile, Thomas opened up for the first time about her relationship with Cuenca and what she likes the most about the “Ikaw Lamang” actor. Philstar

equalized at the middle game. But could the prosecution recover? Former justice secretary and 1BAP Party-list Rep. Silvestre Bello was quoted as saying the development of the case would depend on the strength of the evidence. Like you, dear readers, I want to watch skirmishes at the Sandiganbayan live on television. Unlike impeachment trials that glued us to television daily, however, there won’t be any live coverage of the plunder trials. *** With three senators and more politicians linked to the Napoles scam, it would be very difficult to keep politics and propaganda out. Perhaps, we also need to insulate the Sandiganbayan hearings. Note that 2016 is still two years away and the Napoles you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:14- 15) The phrase “walk circumspectly,” means to be constantly looking around to make the most of every opportunity. That’s the way we should live, looking for every opportunity to invest time wisely, than darting through them. When an opportunity passes, it can’t be reclaimed–it is gone forever. That’s what it means to redeem the time. 2. If you don’t manage your time - someone else will manage it for you you can’t save time, or even waste time–you are going to spend it somewhere and invest it in someone. If you don’t control your schedule, someone will always be happy to do it for you. Some people complain they just don’t have enough time to spend with their family. You’ve got exactly the same amount of time as everyone else; you just aren’t managing
scam controversy erupted last year yet. However, the opposition camp keeps on repeating the 2016 narrative. Personally, I don’t give much weight to the politics argument. Whether corruption charges are filed long before or during an electoral campaign period, an accused politician will always cry politics. Whether the Aquino administration focused on the three senators to politically cripple the opposition or not, guilt will be determined by the evidence presented. History, on the other hand, will either hail or condemn the Aquino leadership for its handling of its anti-corruption campaign. ***
Apparently, those who think in terms of traditional political paradigms could not understand the emergence of a rainbow civil society coalition against the pork barrel system. Today, the Cebu coalition has not only connected with other anti-pork groups outside Cebu, it is morphing into a national coalition for people’s initiative to eliminate the pork barrel system. Some friends in the Facebook group Maghisgot Kitag Politika, Bay aired concerns about the people’s initiative being used by politicians. However, the anti-pork movement is inclusive as long as we all work to eliminate the pork barrel system.
The Cebu Coalition against The Pork Barrel System has not been spared of criticisms based on the political lenses of the critics. There are those who insist the coalition is pro-Aquino. Others consider the presence of anti-Aquino Left groups like Bayan a cause for concern.
We know the pork barrel is intertwined with patronage politics. If the people’s initiative movement succeeds, corrupt politicians will think twice about spending millions for elections. Expect a completely different political terrain come 2016.
your time wisely or managing yourself wisely.
You need to learn to say, “NO” to some of the things that take you away from your family. Here’s another reason to work on enjoying your family time: 2. Your family time is short– so make some happy memories!
The final letter in TIME is: IV. ENJOY! The time you spend with your family should be enjoyable. It should be the best time of your life. Here is a couple of ways to enjoy your family time. 1. Say NO to family timerobbers There will always be something else to do. There will always be somewhere else you can be, but if you are going to make spending time with your family a priority you are going to have to learn the power of that little two lettered word, “NO.” Practice saying No to things that can wait or less importance thing than your relationships. Nobody on their deathbed ever said, “I wish I had spent more time at work.”
James writes: “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14) “You don’t have very long to live.” “Time is running out.” “You’d better live for God and live for your family.” They do ride away and live their own lives, so that’s why you need to invest lots of time with your family. Treasure your family time. Invest it wisely. Manage your time as a gift from God. Enjoy your family time!

GAWAD GENY LOPEZ JR. GLOBAL BAYANING PILIPINO AWARDS RECOGNIZES UNSUNG HEROES ANEW
Industry movers, world-class performers pay tribute to 2014 Bayaning Pilipino awardees June 26, 2014 (QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES) – As the nation honors champions of the revolution this month, ABS-CBN Corporation, The Filipino Channel (TFC), and Ugat Foundation jointly recognized the heroes of our time at the recent Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Global Bayaning Pilipino Awards in the landmark Dolphy theater at the ABS-CBN Corporation headquarters in Quezon City. A new breed of heroes were recognized before an esteemed audience - from an ordinary farmer to a group of professionals, and from enterprising young folks to a retired teacher who believe they can do more for others. ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio Lopez III, echoing what could very well be the words of his late father Chairman Emeritus Eugenio Lopez Jr., said: “Every year, we realize we have a bundle of heroes among us. I see people who are quite simple. They appear to be as people who never expect any reward, not even an affirmation.” Making these modern heroes extraordinary are the adversities they overcame to be of service to others. According to UGAT Project Director Fr. The tragedies that come with the times challenge the heroism of Filipinos – the help they can and will extend to the downtrodden). BAYANING PILIPINO Lopez and Tanalega awarded one of the highest honors of the night to two heroes or bayanis: a retired public school teacher Lilia Diaz, who dedicated the remaining years of her life to teaching the Tagbanuas in Palawan and Leonilo Beltran, a former OFW who founded Skills Caravan Movement which extends free training in Regions II and III to people without resources. The rest of the finalists are: Velvet Escario Roxas (Arugaan), Johnny Punzalan Medrano (Batangas Cellphone Specialist Association), and Dr. Anton Mari Lim (Yellow Boat of Hope). BAYANING SAMAHANG PILIPINO The Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Awards was organized to give patriotism and the spirit of bayanihan a face, worldwide. In pursuit of this goal, ABS-CBN President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Charo Santos – Concio and Fr. Tanalega honored Filipino organizations that have come together for a good cause: Ugnayan ng Pahinugod Manila, Malayan Samahan ng mga Katutubo (Masaka), Ezer Foundation and category winner International Deaf Education Association Philippines (Idea). BAYANING KABATAANG PILIPINO. From the group category, the Global Bayaning Pilipino Awards also honored young individuals who prove that true heroism transcends age. From finalists Helen Gemma Ramos Vallejos (founder of Balikatang Pak na Pak) and Cyprian Jade Basa (Department of Agriculture awardee), John Michael Dellariarte (I CAN make a difference) emerged winner for turning his knowledge in the sciences into opportunities to help. GLOBAL BAYANING PILIPINO From the Philippines, the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. Global Bayaning Pilipino Awards also honored winners from North America and Asia. Because of the magnitude of their service to fellowmen, the Bayaning Pilipino sa North America declared all finalists Carolina Medical Mission (CMM), Filipino-American Community and Development Center of Ocean County Inc. and Aksyon ng Ating Kabataan Inc as winners during the Quezon City awarding. Previously, the winners were honored in TFC’s 20th anniversary gala at the Elizabeth A. Hangs Theatre, Santa Clara Convention Center in Sta. Clara, California in April. Beyond their recognition, the Global winners were amazed at how much the local bayanis have accomplished given so little. CMM member Drs. Nimfa and Bernie Yu said: “Sa nakita namin ngayon, some do not even belong to a big group. We’re lucky because we are a big group. Sa nakita ko sa

When I saw the individual categories, I realized it [help] can be shared).” FCDC Treasurer and Board members Rowela Antioquia and Lorna Tejada added: “Yung mga local Bayaning Pilipino, they did awesome. For us, we may just have the money but there were winners who were able to help [even without resources].”Daisydee Bautista, ANAK director ended: “It’s not about being different or standing out to separate yourselves from the others, but it’s a way to relate and to involve yourself with everyone so that you can have the opportunities to share these and your learnings.” For the Bayaning Pilipino sa Gawing Japan, Jeppie Dato Ramada (teacher and founder of United Filipinos in Gifu) was declared grand winner. Ramada was recognized for organizing his fellow Filipinos in Japan to help others, including other nationalities. Ramada’s aunt, Erlinda Ramada said her nephew could not receive the award personally because he could not leave the school children he was teaching. Ramada said Jeppie won because he has a big heart. “Even nung nasa Pilipinas siya, pumupunta siya sa remote areas, especially sa mga katutubo (Even when he was in the Philippines, he went to the remote areas, especially to the indigenous tribes to help),” Ramada said.
