We're on mission together “THE MISSION CONTINUES AND, IN THE COURSE OF HISTORY, UNFOLDS THE MISSION OF CHRIST.” —CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 852
On Mission Together Being on mission for Christ and his beloved Church always matters. Your support of Glenmary always matters, truly. Your gifts always translate to good work in the home missions. This year your support was even more of a God-send. Glenmary, like you, had to navigate pandemic precautions and economic regressions. Tough decisions had to be made to keep Glenmary priests and brothers, mission parishioners, and staff safe. But thanks to the outpouring of your kindness to Glenmary, it was possible for Glenmary to stay on mission. Not once was funding withdrawn from our missions. What a blessing it was to tell our missioners that support would keep coming, all thanks to you! In a time when everything feels far from normal, our mission to share the Catholic faith in rural Appalachia and the South and serve the poor in these areas is still incredibly necessary. The Holy Spirit leads us, both you and me, and together we make mission happen right here at home. Thank you for being on mission with us. Thank you for caring about the Catholic faith, Thank you for valuing our work enough to support us, even during pandemic-times.
Father Dan Dorsey Glenmary President

Mission is spreading joy Newly ordained Glenmary deacon Rev. Mr. Kenneth Wandera flashes an inviting grin on his way to priesthood.
Mission is repairing homes for the poor Ministry goes beyond church walls into the community, with helpful Glenmary volunteers.
Mission is encountering Christ Whether at the altar or in the community, the Body of Christ, broken and shared, is what Glenmary is all about.
Mission is walking together during hardship Deacon José Carlos blesses a family who has come to Holy Family parish in Macon County, Tennessee to pray in the new church. He will be a priest next year.
6 / Glenmary Home Missioners
Where we serve Glenmary Home Missioners was founded in 1939 by Father William Howard Bishop, whose vision was for every county in the United States to have a permanent Catholic presence. We follow in his footsteps!

Few Catholics
Wide-Spread Poverty
Low Faith Affiliation
When Glenmary starts a mission, there often are very few Catholics in the community, often less than 1% of the population.
The average poverty rate in our mission counties is 22%, almost double the national average of 12%.
In addition to serving in areas where there aren’t many Catholics, on average only one out of four people in our missions claim any faith affiliation, or church community, at all.
We begin our ministries by getting to know the community, sharing the news that we're starting a Catholic parish, and inviting others to join. All are welcome!
Our founder, Father Wm. Howard Bishop, instructed Glenmarians to become the contact for all the poor in a community, because God has a special place in his heart for anyone who is struggling.
Whether in action or in words, we try to show all people that God desires a relationship with his children.
MOVING INTO TWO NEW MISSIONS With your support and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are excited to establish two new missions in Trousdale and Smith Counties in Tennessee. Brother Craig Digmann (left) moved to Trousdale County in fall of 2020, and Father Don Tranel will lead the effort in Smith County starting January 2021. Pray with us for our new missions!

How we serve Each Glenmary mission requires a unique missionary approach. As we serve, we get to know the people and needs within the community. We then find ways to help meet those needs, whether they are spiritual or material in nature.
Sacramental Outreach
Meeting Practical Needs
Beyond Church Walls
One of our primary reasons for ministry is bringing access to the sacraments to our missions.
Serving the practical and material needs of a community is one way we put our faith into action.
No two days are the same in the missions! We lean into the Holy Spirit for guidance on how to serve each day.
Celebrating the sacraments brings us into deeper relationship with God, and empowers us to share the love that we receive with others.
With food outreach, home repair support, job counseling and more, we reach out to love, support, and honor the poor.
Along with God's help, your gifts to Glenmary are what fuel all of these different ministries. Thank you for your faithful giving!
GLENMARY'S VOLUNTEER SPIRIT Volunteers have always been a crucial part of Glenmary's ministry. In the words of Joe Grosek, Glenmary Volunteer Program Director, “The idea behind the volunteer program is to give people a taste of mission, and a taste of the mission regions of the United States. I want them to make a connection between service and faith. I want them to learn to build community.”

You make mission possible “THERE WAS NEVER A TIME WHEN MISSIONARY ACTIVITY WAS MORE NEEDED IN OUR BELOVED LAND THAN IT IS TODAY.” —FR. WM. H. BISHOP, GLENMARY FOUNDER
A personal thank you from our development director Sometimes, it’s too easy to get caught up in the world of balance sheets, analytics, bottom lines, and performance comparisons. One’s mission is more than just the numbers. The following report is an attempt to ground us in the reality of what really matters. This impact report is not all inclusive, but gives you, Glenmary’s dear supporter, an awesome insight into how donations impact the front lines of our missions. These pages demonstrate how Glenmary is on mission, giving the precious gift of Christ’s hope to folks in despair, folks longing for faith, folks with nowhere else to turn. This report verifies the reality that Glenmary mission priests and brothers are indeed on an awesome mission, a mission that is able to be realized thanks to the mission-mindedness and prayers of our supporters. I am starting another new chapter in my mission ministry and will be moving to Smith County, Tenn., to start a new mission in 2021. Thank you for being a wonderful community of supporters during my time as Development Director.
Father Don Tranel Glenmary Development Director
Your support keeps mission in motion! Father Don Tranel will lead our new mission in Smith County, Tenn., in 2021.
