Work of Human Hands
Each year I find myself more and more in awe of our God and His ability to take the work of human hands and make something divine. Of course this happens each Mass with the Eucharist, but it also happens every day in the Glenmary missions. Each missioner lays their gifts and talents before the Lord, and we watch Him work. We see the hungry fed. We see the naked clothed. We see the sinner forgiven. It is a blessing to be able to see the Holy Spirit work in this way. Upon his election to the papacy in 2005, now Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI called himself a humble worker in the vineyard of the Lord. He added, “The fact that the Lord can work and act even with insufficient means consoles me, and above all I entrust myself to your prayers.” That beautiful notion applies to Glenmary as well. Our missioners are men of faith, education and training, but even so we know the challenge of our mission is beyond our abilities alone. Rather we join our efforts with Jesus Christ, and this consoles us. Thank you for your support of Glenmary this past year. As we go forward, we entrust ourselves to your prayers.

A Stewardship Report for Fiscal Year 2015–16 “Glenmary continues to be the only Catholic missionary group working exclusively in the rural United States. Over the past 79 years, we’ve become known for our faith-filled, creative approaches to bringing the precious gift of our Catholic faith to places without a substantial church presence. In our short history, we’ve established over 125 Catholic missions in rural Appalachia and the South, and we look forward to establishing many more!” - father

Glenmary at a Glance Who We Are • Glenmary is a Catholic society of priests and brothers who, along with coworkers, are dedicated to serving the spiritual and material needs of people throughout Appalachia and the South. • We work exclusively within the United States and are dedicated to bringing the Catholic Church neglected areas of our nation. • We advance our mission by nurturing Catholics, evangelizing the unchurched, fostering ecumenical cooperation, engaging in social outreach and working for justice.
Whom We Serve • The Catholic minority, by establishing a Church presence in areas where frequently less than 1% of the population is Catholic. • The unchurched, by testifying to our faith in mission regions where a significant percentage of the people have no church affiliation. • The poor, through our outreach and work for social justice in counties where poverty levels are almost twice the national average.
