From the Secretary

Dear Members,

Firstly, I hope you and your loved ones are all safe and sound.

Although we are confronted with the fact that yet another COVID variant dubbed Omicron (it is named after the 15th letter of the Greek alphabet which makes me wonder if epidemiologist envisage us having a total of 24 viruses before this all ends) it is this time of the year where we come together with our most beloved to celebrate and experience the gift of life in the spirit of Christmas.

Many of us, including myself, start running around in these last few day leading up to Christmas Day in order to find presents and gifts for our loved ones yet, as the old saying goes, “the best Christmas gift is to realise how much you already have.” In this very spirit, we as employees of the Club, have much to be thankful for as we have the best Members in the world and on behalf of our entire team, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support throughout another COVID year. Due to the pandemic, we sadly had to cancel various ‘signature Club Events’ that have become part of the fabric of our Club such as the Christmas Carols in the Ballroom and the Children’s Christmas Party with Father Christmas flying in from Lapland and landing with his helicopter at the Club, bearing gifts for our youngest and, of course, always super well-behaved Members.

Yet, the good news is that we continue to have a lot of Muthaiga Christmas Classics this year and I truly hope to see you at some of our events, be it our Christmas Eve Dinner, our traditional and unparalleled Christmas Day Lunch, at the PINKS Boxing Day BBQ or for the New Year’s Eve party including the fireworks! And with regards to New Year’s Eve, a loving reminder to all our lady Members that this might be the perfect moment for you to finally check out the Members’ Bar, this - shrouded in legend - place at the Club, where CEOs, fathers and husbands regularly disappear and spend hours amongst themselves, unbeknownst to their mothers, spouses, daughters or mistresses, as women only have access once a year. Many believe that having a ‘Men’s Bar’ is totally outdated in the 21st century yet until our Members decide to change that, why not stop by and have a look for yourselves, as Karen Blixen did a hundred years ago?

New Year’s Day Brunch might give you another option to enjoy the Club and to set the tone for a 2022 that will hopefully be better, brighter, healthier and happier than 2021 had been.

I, for one, am convinced that 2022 will be a positive year as the Club is financially in the best shape ever, well structured and the whole team is highly motivated and determined to offer you the best service and experience, with the highest level of safety across all areas of the Club. ‘Nakupa Hati Nzuri’ has been the Club’s motto since inception in 1913 and it is our daily aim to ‘bring you good service’ at each and every touchpoint and whenever and wherever you interact with the Club.

Enjoy the read and please do not hesitate to reach out to me on secretary@mcc.co.ke or call with regard to any ideas, comments or recommendations on how we can improve your experience at MCC.

My best wishes to you and your families and loved ones and may you all have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2022!

Yours always,

Christian Vater, Club Secretary Muthaiga Country Club
