Improving education through governance
School governors and trustees provide strategic leadership by determining the overall direction and development of a school. When staff from independent and state schools serve together on the same governing body, best practice can be shared for the benefit of all children and young people. Some larger independent schools have even been able to help sponsor state schools, such as the London Academies of Excellence in Stratford and Tottenham. Hampton School and Lady Eleanor Holles School (LEH) have recently partnered with Reach Academy –along with leaders from the business and health sectors - to launch Feltham College, a ground-breaking post-16 model designed to offer valuable educational opportunities to young people in the London Borough of Hounslow. Opening in September 2022, the college aims to ensure that local young people have access to the best in further education, whether they wish to pursue an academic or vocational pathway. Academic A-level courses will be supported by Hampton and LEH, while vocational qualifications in music, catering, and health and social care will be similarly supported through partnerships with Kingston University and East London Arts & Music Academy,
