Patrick Shelley was Director of Music at Sherborne from 1981 to 1995, having taught woodwind here since 1966. In 1974 he founded Dorset Opera to encourage young singers to participate in a semi-professional production each year in the School’s BSR. Dorset Opera is now a professional opera company based at Bryanston. This competition, for the School’s advanced instrumentalists and singers is dedicated to Patrick Shelley’s memory and has taken place annually since 2007.
