How To Get
NEW GENERATIONS EXCITED ABOUT CHRISTIANITY GLENN DUKER
The world is full of distractions when it comes to prayer time and faith. Social media cooks up new trends every day to grab our attention. Stumbling on these, we plan to have our spiritual hour 'in a little bit' and are exhausted by the time we remember. This can make our time with the Godless fruitful.
It is worse for young Christians who do not remember a time before apps and gadgets existed. With the ability to get everything online instantly, why would an adolescent choose to follow a God they cannot see? It is our responsibility to evangelize in a manner that will excite younger generations to listen to that Voice. Some methods for this include:
Relate To Them If you ask today's youth why they are not Christian, a consistent answer is that they don't feel as if they matter. Young people have different interests; things that make them anxious are different from what we had years ago. Reach out to these people by finding out who they are as individuals. Show them that Jesus Christ cares for them, too, even if they have quirky hobbies!
Be Accessible We have all seen the cliché of a pastor preaching to full pews. Millennials don't work this way; they grew up in a smaller world. Social media enables them to feel close to people they admire. You can reach these people by doing the same thing and utilizing the Internet as a tool. Comment on their achievements and engage in conversation over chat. Sometimes a talk online can bring a young person to your service!
BE REAL Don't sugarcoat the Gospel for the sake of a number. Many pastors water down the Gospel to bring more people to their church. Young people choose to attend worship services because they want to find God, not attend another party. Tell them Who Jesus is and why He died for our sins without leaving out the darker parts. Help young people realize that they can become beloved children of God.
