Spring/Summer 09 Collection Statement
I am extremely proud to present my latest Collection, Spring Summer 2009 which integrates all of your valued feedback. The range includes many new and exciting designs and a stunning colour palette to suit all tastes. Please take your time to read the fabric technology page. You will see how many new additions we have added, providing you with the most up to date in technology and wearability. Continuing to ‘lead with the legs’ the trousers are now lighter in weight and crease resistant. By popular demand we now offer a finished leg length of 31" and 33" with the trademark Poulter side splits which sit perfectly on the top of your shoes. Shorts are now a key feature in the Collection available in the Signature Poulter Tartan and some equally exciting solid colours, all of which are loaded with stylish branding that complement the entire range. The Spring Summer Collection was photographed in London at some of the most symbolic British landmarks. I hope you agree the images are striking, daring and emphasise the well considered colours and clothing selected for Spring Summer 2009. Yet again I feel my team and I have produced another exceptional golf and lifestyle apparel range that allows you to be seen, be smart and most importantly just be yourself.

IJP – The story so far...
Ian took up the game at the age of four when his Dad Terry a single figure handicap golfer gave him a cut down three wood. Ian turned professional at 19 when he won the Open de Cote d’Ivoire on the Challenge Tour in 1999. Winning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the year title in 2000 provided the spring board for Ian to become one of the most exciting talents on the European Tour. He was one of only seven players in 2007 to make all four cuts in the majors, to finish 13th at the Masters, to have two top tens on the US Tour, to win his eighth title in Japan. Quite an achievement for someone who has fought his way up working as an assistant pro, to thrusting himself into one of the worlds top ranking golfers. Ian's passion for clothing started at an early age and to feed this desire he worked at the Stevenage market merchandising and selling clothes, saving up his weekly earnings to be able to purchase the latest fashion apparel. For Ian, looking good and playing well go together – “Look good, feel good, play good has always been my mantra.” The launch of IJP – (Ian James Poulter) in 2007 really is a dream come true. Ian began sketching designs as he toured the world on letterheads and airline coasters, dreaming of the day he could wear his own creations. The dream is now reality, both Ian and yourself can wear the IJP clothing brand on and off the golf course. Ian is focused on quality and attention to detail so it will come as no surprise to

learn that each garment has been tried and tested prior to production. Ian and trouser’s go together, the IJP brand philosophy is to ‘lead with the legs’ by designing the trousers first and then co-ordinating the rest of the outfit around them. The Poulter Tartans are all licensed under the Scottish Tartan Authority (read about the history of tartan on pages 6 and 7). For each seasonal collection, three different coloured tartans are woven in Scotland and Northern England. The famous Poulter tartan bootleg trousers and now shorts are the pillars of each collection that the range is then designed around.The ethos behind Ian Poulter Design and the IJP logo is to create high quality, unique, funky and distinctive apparel that fuse functionality with fashion, letting you reflect your own personality and style. IJP AMBASSADORS Ian is not the only touring professional to be wearing IJP. Young British talent Gary Boyd and Steve Lewton are dressed head to toe in IJP apparel. Gary was the eighth highest ranked amateur in the world before turning professional. In 2007 he was selected for the England elite squad and now plays the European tour. Steve plays in the South African Sunshine Tour and in 2007 had back to back victories in Australia, winning the Avondale Medal and the 100th New South Wales Medal. Steve carries the infamous IJP pink and grey bag. The talented British female twin golfers Jo and Sam Head wear IJP headwear. Sam plays on the European Tour and has five International victories. Jo plays on the US Tour with three International victories to date and carries the IJP bag. Ian Poulter Design is proud to announce the signing of its latest ambassador; James Dunkley. James is 22 years old and has recently turned pro. His home courses are split between Lake Nona in Florida and Woburn, England. Look out for James in our Autumn Winter 2009 Catalogue!

Tartan’s Unique Message
There is no other textile design in the world which allows the wearer to celebrate and proudly proclaim that “I come from this country . . . this is my family . . . my clan . . . my city . . . district, company, regiment, college, football team, golf club . . . . the list is almost endless!” Where did it come from and why has tartan fabric ended up as one of our national icons, owned by a tiny island with a population of 5 million Scots living in the northern periphery of Europe? Tartan design is regarded as an ancient art form originally developed by the celts – a warrior race originating in southern Russia. The first evidence of tartan was found to the east on mummified bodies from the Chinese desert dated back to 700 –1200BC.

Brittany. Over the millennia the culture and craft has been diluted, in some cases lost due to external influences, however despite the unique topography of the Scottish mountains, isolated glens and remoteness ensured that the Romans were kept at bay.

Despite the lack of firm evidence, logic dictates that tartan in some form or another was woven and worn in the Highlands of Scotland during those 1600 years.

Collection 3 Autumn Winter 2008

A major milestone in its History was the Jacobite rising of 1745 and the resultant Battle of Culloden in 1746, where for the first time clans were identified by the distinctive tartan designs they wore. In the wake of Culloden the Government banned wearing tartan in the Scottish Highlands and at that point traditional skills disappeared. The ban was repealed in 1782 but it wasn't until 1822 that tartan was re-born. It was only when George IV visited Edinburgh and invited clan chiefs 'in all there highland finery' to join him, this for many resulted in the quest to find their lost heritage and their unique tartan clan.
Hot Red, Camel, Ebony Mist and Blossom Pink
The next boost for tartan came in 1842 with the publication of the Vestiarium Scoticum, a prestigious book containing 76 alleged ancient tartans clans discovered in a french manuscript. They were in fact the imaginative embellishments of existing tartans of two brothers – The Sobieski Stewarts, these tartans were widely and enthusiastically accepted by the Scottish 'high society'. The final step in the apparent immortalisation of tartan came from Queen Victoria who ushered in the great Victorian love affair with Scotland. Much of Balmoral Castle was decked out in the 'Balmoral tartan' which had been especially designed for her Husband Prince Albert. From that period tartan has gone from strength to strength. Never has a year passed without a famous Couturier adding a tartan design to their collection. A phenomena that started life with less than one hundred designs has now exceeded 4000 designs of which 1000 can be found in Canada and America amongst others located in various corners of the globe. Almost 120 new tartans are developed every year and are registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority, adding Ian Poulter Design to their prestigious list.
