INNOVATION FROM THE GROUND UP
Aristocrat has broken ground and begun construction of its new campus in west Las Vegas. More than 700 of Aristocrat’s Las Vegas-based employees will be positioned in the new location, which will feature a cutting-edge, open-space design.
“Aristocrat is employee-driven and customer-focused, and this new building is a symbol of those commitments. Yes, the building will be fantastic; however, it’s what’s inside the building that sets us apart – that is our people,” said Matt Wilson, Aristocrat’s Managing Director of the Americas.

G2E PREVIEW: Melissa, this is your first
year at G2E. Tell us how you expect the show to grow this year. MELISSA ASHLEY: G2E continues to grow and evolve alongside the industry it serves. Attendees will enjoy an expanded conference program featuring new tracks, speakers and topics. Our Integrated Resort Experience offerings, which highlight products and service complementary to the core gaming products, will also be more expansive. After working on the show for several months, I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together. Tell us how the Integrated Resort Experience, now in its third year, will be different and better this year. This year we’re excited to be incorporating service providers and products that are complementary elements to our core gaming throughout the show floor, within our education program and into our networking events. This evolving part of the industry provides exciting opportunities for the future, so expect to see it progressing as we innovate and grow. What are some of the networking opportunities for G2E attendees this year? Our attendees continue to tell us that one of the main reasons they love our event is for the networking; we are thrilled to once again host an opening night welcome reception, as well as some special networking opportunities for tribal gaming, women in gaming, Privileges Members and more. What are you doing to ensure that tribal government gaming remains a big part of the show? 8 | G2E Preview 2017
tion to G2E. Ashley’s most recent position was as vice president of events, cross platform businesses at Bloomberg BNA. Now in its 16th year, G2E continues to be “of the industry, by the industry,” and Ashley says the advances made in both the conference and exhibit side will be noteworthy.
Tribal gaming is a large part of our education program and as always, the Tribal Gaming track is comprehensive. Developed in collaboration with the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA), again this year we have exceptional educational programming and a special networking opportunity in the NIGA lounge (Booth #4408) on Tuesday, October 3, 12:45 p.m.–2 p.m. Tell us about the tools that G2E is offering to assist both exhibitors and attendees to get the most out of the show. We have several tools to help our customers, including a comprehensive recommendations program, mobile application and lead scanning app. For our attendees, the mobile app and overall recommendations program are designed to help them manage their time efficiently by finding exhibitors, products and events that specifically serve their business needs. Coming to G2E this year, we will have a dedicated booth on the show floor designed to support the digital recommendations and further assist attendees with finding the right leads and opportunities. The official Mobile App for G2E can be found in the App Store and Google Play store for free download. The app offers the most current information, including recently booked exhibitors, an interactive floor plan, event schedules and more. We hope our attendees and exhibitors will use the app, brought to you by Konami, to make the most of their time at G2E. For our exhibitors, we have a leadcapture app, designed to assist our
exhibitors with badge scanning during the show, and for tracking and importing of the leads into their own CRM post-show. These tools are designed to help our customers build their businesses and continue the conversations they start at G2E. The G2E show floor has been reconfigured in many ways. Tell us how that’s going to benefit the attendees and exhibitors. As our non-gaming sectors continue to grow and we look at the Integrated Resort Experience, we decided to expand and intersperse all of these great companies throughout more areas of the show floor. We also took customer feedback about the keynote sessions and are excited to share that we will hold the keynotes on our Special Events Stage on the show floor (Hall D). This should accommodate our customers’ needs to have quick access to the show floor for a prompt start with meetings and appointments each morning. The floor is also home to many different areas devoted to special disciplines, like table games, iGaming, security & surveillance and more. Does this work for both exhibitors and attendees? Our show team takes pride in collecting feedback from both exhibitors and attendees through surveys and conversations had both during and after the show. We strive to leverage this feedback to make improvements for our customers. This approach has continued to guide us as we bring in new and different components both within and outside of the traditional gaming space, and you will see that when you walk the floor.

IGT’s Cardless Connect
T
he industry knows it as the Global Gaming Expo, the crossroads of gaming commerce, innovation and networking. The players know it as “The Show,” a bellwether event for varied exhibitors, operators and vendors. In many respects, it’s an assessment of what they’ve orchestrated in the past year. If the rollouts impress this high-profile audience, optimism abounds. Bring out the innovations; it’s time to dazzle. Time to build bridges and present solutions, for G2E 2017 impacts revenue in 2018. Big companies relish this summit of gaming power brokers, while small outfits try to make this the year they unveil a game-changer. From whatever perspective, everyone points to The Show. One of their themes this year is communicating with the player.
Wielding A Powerful Lineup
P
atrons and operators have long known International Game Technology’s footprint on the big picture. This multinational gaming, lottery and interactive giant, headquartered in London with major offices in Rome, Providence, Rhode Island, and Las Vegas, is known for major innovations. IGT has a well-established local presence and relationships with governments and regulators in more than 100 countries around the world. It has also mastered the small details. Just as a giant car manufacturer needs small parts, IGT showcases products that 10 | G2E Preview 2017
interact with the big machines. Witness a set of “Great Communicators,” which expedite customer service and establish the means for operators to reward top players. This lineup includes Cardless Connect, which busts the concept of long lines, enabling patrons to quickly begin playing via this phone app. This product becomes a virtual card on the phone. Players tap the phone into the reader at a slot machine and load funds. There is no cash or ticket to retrieve, or possibly lose, when moving between games. Cardless Connect also saves operators the expense needed to handle the cash. Lost and forgotten cards are no longer a frustrating barrier to play as smartphones and apps become standard procedure, for all demographics. Operators also avoid the expense of printing and re-printing loyalty cards. Players are already used to mobile wallets from Starbucks and Apple. The Cardless Connect transfer functionality is safe and secure, since funds are never on the phone, IGT officials indicate. Its EZ Pay software does the heavy lifting of transferring funds from the player’s account to the EGM. Cardless Connect isn’t just an app for millennials, officials contend. It’s great for locals, frequent players and even age groups like baby boomers, who continually improve their adaptability to social media. Two other information ambassadors, “Message Blast” and “Point Pursuit,” are communicated directly through a slot machine and IGT’s Service Window product. Message Blast provides a personalized player experience to increase the value of a property’s club and to drive membership, officials indicate. It targets players with the right mes-
sage at the right time, improving advertising and ensuring timely communications. Message Blast is considered a powerful hosting tool with branded Lucky Chip bonuses. Players love to receive the star treatment. Casinos can market to individuals or groups of players directly with messages at their game. They could include a Happy Birthday greeting, a good luck wish to bowlers, a buffet special or a timed offer saying perhaps that only 50 gold-member tickets remain for a particular show. Point Pursuit enables operators to instantly reward loyal players while increasing play. Operators can immediately deliver random or fixed amounts of promotionally funded Xtra Credit non-cashable rewards for achieving point accrual levels. Point Pursuit rewards are delivered in real time during play sessions. And with the ability to message and celebrate your promotion on the Service Window, AVP digital top glass and sb NexGen II multimedia displays, an operator can customize the presentation of awards using dynamic and eye-catching content from an extensive application theme library. Point Pursuit increases revenue by more intelligently targeting rewards and boosting player spend-per-visit and carded pay with goal-oriented awards, company officials say. It delivers branded promotions that differentiate one’s property, increase the value of players clubs Scientific Games’ and drive membership. Point BetVIEW and its latest Lord of the Pursuit can be a catalyst to Rings slot game convert infrequent players into loyal slot customers. Operators have flexibility in how it is used. The casino can award random or fixed amounts of promotionally funded Xtra Credit, non-cashable awards. It can scale rewards to the value of the player based on ranking. Point Pursuit can configure multiple earnings tiers and select the award for achieving each level. Point Pursuit can also integrate with IGT Media Manager to celebrate awards in AVP digital top boxes.
The View
L
as Vegas-based Scientific Games has long been the industry leader on the systems side, and its casino management systems have been at the forefront of player interactivity. The iView Display Manager (DM) service window has been a conduit for a wealth of customized loyalty rewards through the Bally Elite Bonusing Suite, or EBS.
The EBS allows operators to tailor rewards and promotions to the individual player, with events such as Virtual Racing and sweepstakes contests available to the player without leaving the slot machine. One new addition to the system is BetVIEW, which allows players to affect the value of their own rewards by making additional bets. Under this system, players can make additional bets on the loyalty games offered as part of the EBS. Using their game meter credits, players can place additional wagers on secondary games like floor-wide tournaments, virtual races, casino-run lotteries, roulette, keno, and more, without leaving their machines. Another new features of the Scientific Games systems lineup is Bally Power Rewards. With this technology, promotions work across multiple departments including slots, tables, keno and all other departments where the casino may offer patrons rewards. When Bally Power Rewards are used on the slot floor, rewards can be downloaded directly from the slot machine. Credits can even be used to promote increased play for chosen time periods, locations or individual players. Another feature called Power Loyalty enables casinos to extend their loyalty program to retail locations within and outside of their property, allowing players to redeem points, coupons and comps instantly, not only on the casino floor, but also at retail outlets partnered with the casino. Power Loyalty combines a point-of-sale application that runs on a tablet device provided by Scientific Games and an administrative web application that runs on a PC. Both applications connect securely to the casino management system using cloud-based security.
Artificial Sweetener
C
utting-edge advancements in artificial intelligence, machine learning and predictive analytics have been revolutionizing how businesses communicate with their customers, but most of those advancements have yet to make it to the casino industry. That will change, according to Las Vegas-based OfferCraft, the young startup intent on gamifying marketing and HR experiences. At G2E, the company will unfurl a set of artificial intelligence advancements it has been rolling out to casinos around the world. Founded by Aron Ezra, former head of mobile for Bally Technologies, OfferCraft’s software re-imagines how casinos communicate with their players in real time. It makes casino G2E Preview 2017 | 11
thing else?’” Ezra says. “‘Would you rather have 10,000 bonus points? Or a free appetizer? Or discounted tickets to tonight’s show? Or do you want to give this reward to someone else?’ The reward changes itself. This dramatically increases the chances of the patron redeeming the incentive, while simultaneously collecting customer preference data.” That’s a unique twist on making customers an offer they can’t refuse. If they pass on the offer, update it. The OfferCraft system allows incentives to change themselves even after they have been distributed. This augments the traditional approach of communicating with customers only according to past spending patterns.
OfferCraft’s systems use artificial intelligence for player communications
communications far more personalized and adaptive to customer behavior. “One of our major technological breakthroughs was to use artificial intelligence to essentially put a brain inside of all messaging and communications,” Ezra says. “We allow these messages to ‘think’ for themselves and change themselves if they’re being ignored or not prompting the desired action from a recipient.” OfferCraft officials believe more people end up engaging with marketing messages and redeeming incentives that use this approach. Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Delaware reported in a press release an average spending rise by 831 percent compared to two prior campaigns that were sent to these customers before the partnership with OfferCraft. “We’re making communications and incentives far more personalized,” Ezra says. He gives an example of how the system works: Let’s say a player received a $15 match-play reward that expires in 24 hours, but hasn’t used it yet. OfferCraft’s AI understands there is a high probability it will expire before redemption. In this case the reward can alter itself and prompt the patron with something that might be more interesting. “The reward could send a follow-up text message or email to the patron that says, ‘Looks like you haven’t used your $15 of match play that expires in 24 hours. an Jose, California-based Joingo is a mobile loyalty and engagement platform for the casino gaming industry. The company will use G2E to showcase the enhanced realm of customer apps, including kiosk integration, geofenced drawing check-in, special event RSVP, and valet vehicle pull-around. Its back-end management system, the Joingo console, unveils recent upgrades that make it easier to manage content. The latest version includes improved standard features—geo-fencing, location-based targeting, and enterprise-class reporting and analytics. The company recently completed its first app for a horseracing venue, for which it developed a “First Bet’s On Us” feature, giving users a free bet when they visit by downloading and registering for the application, which the user must be on location to use. Officials say the new rollouts help operators send highly targeted, location-based messages and offers via mobile that drive incremental trips and revenue. A second asset enables customers to geo-fence their own property, competitor properties, and local points of interest. They can to see where patrons are spending their time, and use the data to make solid assumptions about wallet share. They can even get this data for patrons who are uncarded. Throughout the industry, excitement mixes with deadline activity. This is a high point of the gaming world. The curtain will soon be raised and The Show will produce new stars.

A
s usual, the keynote education sessions being lined up for G2E are impressive and inspirational. While not all names had been released at press time for G2E Preview, the kick-off keynote on Monday is particularly intriguing. The end goal of networking is not collecting the most connections, but making the right moves to make meaningful connections that will last a lifetime. Kick off your morning with a super-charged interactive workshop that will give new meaning to the networking hustle. • Build confidence and learn how to get out of your own way and successfully network with a purpose; • Hear why the human-to-human connection and building relationships with authenticity will yield the best results; and, • Develop a plan for adding value to your contacts without expectations of the “one-for-me; one-for-you” mentality. 16 | G2E Preview 2017

gence tool GlobalSuite to G2E that is faster, more intuitive and more actionable than ever. Speed in data access and rendering is key in delivering a great
user experience. The move from 32-bit to 64-bit architecture allows for GlobalSuite to improve allaround performance. The many software updates made to support this change bring faster response times for queries, player lookups and rendering of visuals. Ondemand statistics make digging into data to uncover why games over- or under-perform even easier. Speed of software processing and the integration of more features allow users to pack more analysis into less time. CDI modernized the front end of GlobalSuite to match the power improvements. The interface is now indistinguishable from a Microsoft Office program with the full adoption of the ribbon-style toolbar. This change allows new
users to find the same tools power users have been exploiting for years. This update, along with a long list of general UI updates, makes it easy for users to get the most out of GlobalSuite. Major gains in delivering actionable insights to users of GlobalSuite are the direct result of customer interactions. CDI plows product feedback into the software development plan. The newest release is heavy with solutions to user requests. Some of these updates include improvements to sightline analysis in the 3-D map, an expansion of 3-D models available for placement on the gaming floor, automated delivery of reports and alerts, and improvements to the printing and plotting features. As with other versions of GlobalSuite, CDI remains committed to simplifying installations and upgrades. The vast majority of installations are performed remotely. Upgrades take the simplicity further with a one-click update, similar to how the OS on a cellphone updates. These processes are in line with CDI’s commitment to GlobalSuite’s ease of use. TITA (Tickets at Table Games)
COUNTR • BOOTH 4500
C
ountR’s innovative TITA (Tickets at Table Games) product takes the ticket revolution to the table games in the same way ticketin/ticket out (TITO) changed slot play from coins and tokens to tickets some 15 years ago. CountR’s TITA is an easy-to-install ticket redemption device for table games. It allows a player to exchange a ticket for chips right at the table. TITA can also issue a ticket when a player wants to color up and leave the table. The extreme ease of use of this product results in a significant increase in profit for the casino. This is accomplished by reducing chip fills, increasing slot cross-play, and improving soft-count operations and revenue audit reconciliation. This in turn allows cage personnel to provide services to the casino that result in increased profits. With the optional multi-note acceptance bill/ticket drop box, an even greater increase in benefits for both the casino and the player can be achieved. There are several models available to meet the needs of the casino’s volume. This results in a reliable note/ticket reading and alerts the casino when a suspect bank note is detected. Cost savings at the casino operations level result from a reduction in staff at the cage and no chips being credited or filled at the tables. At the same time, and with only a few mouse clicks, casino management has the ability of to view the win/loss of a table or even the entire table game area at any time. The TITA also greatly enhances service to the players, since they do not have to carry their chips to the cage and wait in line. At G2E 2017, for the first time ever, CountR will showcase a TITA feature called QuasiCash. QuasiCash enables a player to buy chips to play directly at the table by using their debit or credit cards in a cash advance transaction. For more information, visit countr.de/us.

GameChanger DUETTO • BOOTH 4000
s much of the gaming indusA try moves toward the integrated-resort model, casinos need to seize opportunities for more revenue in areas beyond the gaming floor, especially their hotels. To truly optimize total resort profit and guest loyalty, a comprehensive revenue strategy is needed. GameChanger, the cloud-based application from Duetto, is the gaming industry’s solution that incorporates dynamic sources of forward-looking data to help casinos calculate future demand, set optimal room rates and make the smartest reinvestment decisions to balance loyalty and profitability. In 2016, fully deployed hotel properties using GameChanger recorded an average lift in RevPAR index of 6.5 percent. GameChanger won the Best Productivity Enhancement Technology Award in the 2015 GGB Gaming & Technology Awards program. The next year, Duetto released ScoreBoard, another application for optimizing forecasting, reporting and data visualization. Similar returns on investment are possible for integrated resorts, as is a shift in strategy in which all
a casino’s departments, from marketing and player development to operations and revenue management, break out of their silos and collaborate better. Operators can stop relying on old-school, “gutfeeling” methods when making reinvestment decisions, and start using predictive analytics to segment guests by a more sophisticated calculation of customer worth, and use that data to send more targeted offers and promotions to the marketing database. Competition for guests, including gamers and nongamers alike, will only increase as the gaming industry continues to expand throughout the country. GameChanger enables casinos to yield all different room types independently and dynamically, driving incremental revenue even on non-sellout days. Reinvestment rates no longer need to be broad and static. Instead, they can be flexed by stay date and customer segment—based on ADT or any other metric important to the property—giving casinos more flexibility to accommodate guests without sacrificing profits. GAMING SUPPORT • BOOTH 2623 game than anything else on the casino floor. “This experience feels different than anything currently available,” says Ivan Souffront, director of compliance and B2C operation for Gamblit. “Cannonbeard's Treasure LIVE! is accessible to everyone, and brings the excitement of a game show onto the casino floor. The game is extremely easy to learn. If you can press a button you can play.” The game is very dealer-friendly. An experienced dealer can learn the game in minutes. The smart shoe reads each card, virtually eliminating dealer errors. The lights and sounds guide the dealer through every step of the game while adding excitement for the players. Cannonbeard’s Treasure LIVE! has two ways to win. The primary bet is a competitive skill game— players compete to be the first to collect cards adding up to the sum of the dealer’s cards. The side bet is entirely luck-based; the whole table wins together. The combination of skill and luck in the same hand is a huge innovation that goes beyond just adding lights and sounds to blackjack. aming Support has announced the development of Slot Sense, a tool for G Slot “predictive maintenance” in the casino industry. Sense gives the operator full control of slot maintenance. Sensors built into the slot machines monitor and report the following conditions of these machines: • orientation • g-forces • thermal imaging • magnetism • sound • temperature • humidity • air pressure These data points are analyzed and compared with data profiles. Exceptions will be shown on the user’s dashboard, and that will determine the maintenance schedule for the week. When predictive maintenance is working effectively, maintenance is only performed on machines when it is required—before a failure occurs. Predictive maintenance will reduce or eliminate the unnecessary disturbances that require corrective maintenance when failures occur. Working with Slot Sense offers several cost savings for the casinos: It minimizes the downtime of the slot machine allowing for more player time, reduces hours needed for maintenance, and lowers cost of parts and supplies. Integration with local or national lottery servers could allow players to use any EGM as a lottery dispensing terminal that delivers compensation for all sales, and the iVIZION can redeem winning tickets for credits at the EGM. Further, each EGM could be used to place race and/or sports bets and print a ticket, plus redeem winning tickets with credits at the EGM. It also has the TwinStar broad cross-brand versatility, capable of supporting multiple content streams seamlessly, which makes the TwinStar family some of the most diverse cabinet platforms in the industry. Other ergonomic features include a wide-body cabinet that offers extensive leg room that can 34 | G2E Preview 2017

Also included is a tablelike, multi-level deck that provides room for personal storage, a USB power plug for charging mobile devices, and a large iDeck interface with integrated, extra-large left and right smash buttons. Scientific Games officials say they are particularly proud of the patent-pending, simple three-piece assembly of the TwinStar V75, which allows for easy transportation, installation and servicing with no specialty tools or heavy lifting required. Also, despite its size, the cabinet’s footprint is very conservative, taking up a lot less floor and visual space than competitive cabinets, thanks to its sleek, efficient design. SenGame 3.0
SENSEN NETWORKS • BOOTH 5338 3.0 is the latest release from Sensen Networks S enGame that will be launched at G2E Las Vegas.
SenGame 3.0 captures table game performance metrics accurately and cost-effectively. The three-dimensional color, infrared and depth-sensing technology determines the number of players at the table and hands per hour, as well as the number, type and value of all bets placed. This information is then used for numerous business intelligence applications for table-game yield optimization and player satisfaction. SenGame 3.0 includes the edition of the tiny new 68mm x 17mm x 7.25mm camera, allowing for the additional features of float count, mixed chip stack valuation and player grading capabilities. The compact size also makes it much more flexible to attach to varying existing table signage while remaining inconspicuous. SenGame 3.0 also comes complete with its own dashboard for operators to take a simple snapshot of any area of the gaming floor over any period in real time. As with SenGame 2.0, the option also remains to provide data for existing yield management systems. SenGame was designed to be both quick and simple so casinos experience zero downtime and disruption to the gaming floor. Each table is fitted with a camera and a mini PC that communicate to a server, which can then interface with any existing system. Gathering accurate table game insights was both difficult and prohibitively expensive to achieve in the past. However, advances in technology and software solutions have now made it a reality, and Sensen Networks is leading the way. For more information, visit sensennetworks.com.

SPORTS BETTING
Focus on Sports Betting Conference sessions and keynote presentation will reveal the growing momentum to legalize sports betting
Education sessions with a sports betting slant:
MONDAY, OCTOBER 2 11:15 A.M. – 12:15 P.M. • VERONESE 2504
Is It or Isn’t It? iGaming Within Sports Betting in the U.S. This session will look at how iGaming fits into efforts to legalize sports betting in the U.S., at both the state and federal levels. The discussion will cover: • Does ring-fenced mobile sports betting, like that in Nevada, count as iGaming? • If so, is that model usable in other states if they were to introduce iGaming? • Is the U.S. better off modeling the U.K. or other European jurisdictions’ iGaming formats?
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3 At G2E 2016, a keynote presentation featured AGA President & CEO Geoff Freeman interviewing former NBA Commissioner David Stern, an early advocate of re-examining the legality of sports betting.
W
hen the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was passed in 1992, the goal was to shut down illegal sports betting in the United States except in states where it was already legal—Nevada, Oregon, Delaware and Montana (the latter three only permit parlay betting on lottery games). But PASPA has clearly been a failure. Trillions of dollars have been wagered illegally on sports, and today, an annual “industry” actively accepts $150 billion in illegal sports bets. Several years ago, the state of New Jersey listened to its voters who approved sports betting overwhelmingly in a referendum passed in 2011 and filed suit to overturn PASPA. After winding its way through lower courts (mostly unsuccessfully), it was approved for a U.S. Supreme Court hearing in the upcoming term, which starts in October. Should the court find PASPA to be unconstitutional, as the suit charges, every state would have the opportunity to decide whether to legalize sports betting within its borders. Whatever happens in the Supreme Court, it is clear that PASPA has created the black market in sports betting that currently exists. PASPA has forced sports betting underground (and on illegal websites), with no guarantee of payment or consumer protections. In the United Kingdom and other European countries 38 | G2E Preview 2017
where sports betting is legal, there is no black market because bettors enjoy a regulated and controlled market. In addition, an uncontrolled black market brings with it other societywrecking ills like drug dealing, money laundering, human trafficking and racketeering. In addition, PASPA fails to protect the integrity of sports, as officials have no access to point lines and odds, which can often be the first indicators that something is amiss with any game or performance. There has been real movement over the past two years towards legalizing sports betting. Led by NBA Commissioner Alan Silver, leaders of sports leagues have also urged another look at sports betting, including NHL leader Gary Bettman, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred and MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Only the National Football League has not weighed in for professional sports. So it’s no surprise that G2E will hold an extensive review of sports betting and its potential as a revenue-driver and a way to eliminate the black market. Kicking off G2E’s focus on sports betting is a keynote presentation on Tuesday, October 3 at 9 a.m. Experts will join AGA President and CEO Geoff Freeman to talk about the various legal and operational elements of legal sports wagering.

iGAMING CONGRESS
iGaming Growth at G2E As iGaming is on the verge of breaking out in the U.S., G2E expands its coverage 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Is It or Isn’t It? iGaming Within Sports Betting in the U.S. This session will look at how iGaming fits into efforts to legalize sports betting in the U.S., at both the state and federal levels. • Does ring-fenced mobile sports betting, like in Nevada, count as iGaming? • If so, is that model usable in other states if they were to introduce iGaming?
T
he relationship between iGaming and G2E has changed over the years. From the days of being totally illegal in the United States until today when the three states where iGaming is legal are poised to expand, iGaming has been an important part of gaming’s largest trade show and conference. Gone are the days when technical hurdles would confound officials in U.S. gaming jurisdictions. The success of iGaming in Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey is unquestioned, and the sky is the limit once other states join the industry. Concerns about geo-location, know your customer, payment processing and age verification have been largely mollified. Revenues—at least in New Jersey—have continued to increase, while more players become comfortable gambling online and then visiting their favorite casinos. The crossover of players can no longer be denied. The iGaming Congress has been a fixture at G2E over the last half-dozen years, and brings together the leaders of the industry to discuss current developments and future possibilities. Curated by iGaming pioneer Sue Schneider, the iGaming Congress 2017, held on Monday, October 2, gets down to brass tacks. There clearly is momentum toward more legalization in the U.S., and the iGaming Congress will examine how this will happen, what will be the impact, and who the players might be. For any casino company contemplating 40 | G2E Preview 2017
an entry into the iGaming world, or even expecting competition from the online betting, G2E’s iGaming Congress will provide you with the information that will give decisions and actions more clarity and intuition. And of course, the iGaming Congress isn’t the end of the iGaming discussions at G2E. There are several more sessions during the core program held from Tuesday, October 3 to Thursday, October 5 that will inform and expand your understanding of this critical issue. Don’t miss it. Accomplishments in 12 Months AGEM has had a busy year
4 Focus on International Markets AGEM developed contacts and relationships on the ground in Brazil and Japan as both countries continue to debate the idea of legalized gambling. In Tokyo, AGEM attended the Japan Gaming Congress and subsequently provided specific input to the IR Promotion Committee formed to outline the enabling legislation aimed at bringing casinos to the country.
5 Advancement of Women in Gaming
Aristocrat and Ainsworth Game Technology founder Len Ainsworth received the Jens Halle Memorial Award Honoring Excellence in Commercial Gaming Professionalism; the Peter Mead Memorial Award Honoring Excellence in Gaming Media & Communications went to former Las Vegas Review-Journal gaming reporter and columnist Howard Stutz
1 Powerful Economic Impact AGEM partnered with the respected Las Vegas firm of Applied Analysis to assess the global economic impact of gaming suppliers, and the highlights include direct ($17.9 billion), indirect ($14.9 billion) and induced ($14.7 billion) impacts totaling $47.5 billion of economic output (revenue) in 2016, along with 55,145 direct, 68,128 indirect and 88,833 induced employees with an average direct wage per employee of $89,400, reflecting a significant premium to the current U.S. average annual wage of $49,630, as listed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
AGEM supports the growth and elevation of women in gaming, and has become a leading supporter of Global Gaming Women, now a stand-alone organization, by contributing to its Charitable Education Fund and Power of Technology conference, and serving as the title sponsor of its annual Kick Up Your Heels reception at G2E in Las Vegas. AGEM also provided financial support for the “Go Red for Women” movement that benefits the American Heart Association.
6 Variable-Payback/Skilled-Based Gaming What has become known as “skill-based gaming” officially went live, initially in Nevada and New Jersey, and AGEM and its members have continued to promote its expansion into other markets. AGEM gave a presentation at the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States (NCLGS) winter meeting that outlined the regulatory or legislative steps different state markets would need to take to introduce this new form of gaming.
2 Industry Cooperation AGEM worked with the American Gaming Association (AGA) on the G2E and G2E Asia events and with the European Casino Association (ECA) on ICE, the International Casino Conference (ICC) and the European Dealer Championship. AGEM also partnered on other issues and events with a wide variety of other industry associations, including the Gaming Technologies Association (GTA), Gaming Standards Association (GSA), International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL), the International Association of Gaming Advisors (IAGA) and others.
3 Regulatory Reform AGEM has been participating in the AGA’s NextGen Working Group dedicated to general regulatory reform, and had specific interaction providing direct input to regulators in Nevada, New Jersey, Illinois, New York, Michigan, Mexico and Macau, among other markets. 56 | G2E Preview 2017
7 Commitment to Education AGEM continues to fund the AGEM Scholarship at Drexel University in Philadelphia, highlighting a busy 12 months focused on the educational component in its mission statement. In addition to supporting Drexel, AGEM has funded scholarships or contribu-
tions to the Lee Business School at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada State College, the American Indian College Fund, the Global Gaming Women Charitable Education Fund, Atlantic Cape (N.J.) Community College, the International Center for Gaming Regulation at UNLV, the UNLV Center For Gaming Innovation and others.
8 Responsible Gaming The AGEM board in February approved the contract renewal of AGEM Director of Responsible Gaming Connie Jones, and she had a very active year as AGEM continued to financially support a wide variety of organizations dedicated to responsible gaming initiatives, including the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG), the National Council on Problem Gambling, the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, the Problem Gambling Center in Las Vegas and GamCare in the United Kingdom. As a specific example, the annual AGEM-AGA Golf Classic presented by JCM Global raised a record $155,000 for the NCRG.
9 Standing Up for Its Members AGEM advocates for its members on a daily basis, but raised that level of engagement in Washington, D.C. by pushing against introduced legislation dubbed the Restoration of America’s Wire Act (RAWA), and at the state level in the dispute between the Pueblo of Pojoaque tribe and the state of New Mexico.

10 AGEM Mexico Committee Along with operator-dominated trade groups APPJSAC and AIEJA, AGEM worked with regulatory agency SEGOB on updated language governing gaming in Mexico. The AGEM Mexico Committee represents all of the member companies that serve the overall Mexican market.
11 AGEM Memorial Awards At G2E last year, AGEM revealed the inaugural winners of the Jens Halle Memorial Award Honoring Excellence in Commercial Gaming Professionalism: Aristocrat and Ainsworth Game Technology founder Len Ainsworth. The Peter Mead Memorial Award Honoring Excellence in Gaming Media & Communications went to former Las Vegas Review-Journal gaming reporter and columnist Howard Stutz.
12 AGEM Officers January brought an updated officer team as the AGEM Board of Directors approved the slate presented of President Tom Nieman, JCM Global; Vice President David Lucchese, Everi; Vice President of Government Relations Scott Gunn, IGT; Secretary Mark Dunn, Aristocrat; Treasurer Tom Jingoli, Konami; Co-General Counsel Harper Ko, Scientific Games; and Co-General Counsel Daron Dorsey, Ainsworth.
Q&A
AGEM MOMENT
Tom Nieman,
President, Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers
om Nieman became president of the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers late last year, taking over from Konami’s Tom Jingoli, who served a long term at the helm of AGEM. Nieman is senior vice president of marketing for JCM, and
has been a respected figure on the manufacturer side of the industry for more than 20 years. He spoke with GGB Editor Frank Legato in his offices in Las Vegas in August. To hear a full podcast of this interview, visit GGBMagazine.com.
GGB: Tom, you’re the first new president at AGEM in eight years. How’s the transition going, from Tom Jingoli to you? Tom Nieman: Well, there’s certainly a learning curve. Now I appreciate more of what Tom (Jingoli) did. There were tasks that he did every month that I didn’t realize were going on at the president’s level. I got a quick lesson of what needs to get done. So, I appreciate how (AGEM Executive Director) Marcus Prater runs it. He does such a wonderful job in his role as an executive director, and he tries to keep the role of president as simplified as possible. There has been a transition, but I think I’m up to speed.
ner, that’s an efficient way to do business.
T
The rest of the board has always been supportive of the views of the president. Is that still the case? I’d say for the most part, but we really have encouraged an attitude of “everybody speaks up.” That includes the voting officers that represent all the major OEMs and all the members. You have fierce competitors that are members of AGEM. How do you get them to work together, for the betterment of the industry? There’s no doubt that the culture was set in place, and I have to credit Jingoli and Prater for establishing that culture. We know everybody’s got their own agenda, but when you come into this room, when we discuss it from the perspective of AGEM, we want to do what’s right for the industry. It has to work for everyone. Over the past year there’s been a lot more cooperation with regulators. A.G. Burnett (Nevada’s chief regulator) has been at your meetings, and you worked with him in formulating the regulations for skill and eSports. In New Jersey, Dave Rebuck has been working with AGEM. Why is AGEM expanding this role? I think it was a natural phenomenon with the maturation of the association, and the people participating in it, that the realization that it can be far more efficient for one organization representing many companies, hopefully representing them with a single viewpoint. It’s far more efficient to deal with an association than to have to deal with each individual company. And the surprising thing—I say “surprising” from my standpoint—is the collaborative effort that the regulators bring to this. They actually push us to go places we didn’t think they’d allow us to go. And so, if you go out and collect information from a large number of companies, and bring it to us in a clear, concise man58 | G2E Preview 2017
AGEM hired Connie Jones as the responsible gaming director. Why was that, and how has she contributed to the conversation on responsible gaming? Again, I have to credit Jingoli and Prater, who very quickly realized that someone with her skill set was available in the marketplace, and how important a role that can play. If AGEM was to continue in its maturation towards being relevant to the industry, the problem gaming issue is dead center. And Connie does a wonderful job. She’s a great information gatherer, but she won’t hesitate to speak up and give a strong opinion to those who will listen, on what they’re doing right, and what they may be doing wrong. I think it’s been a great three years since she came on board. Tell us about the focus on education for your members. It’s important that everybody stay up to speed. This industry has so many new and evolving situations. And you know, when you use the term “gaming” today, it means so many things to so many people—beyond brick-and-mortar casinos. Getting that information from the outside world, trying to present it in a clear and concise way to the members, that’s part of the value of belonging to AGEM. That’s why you pay your dues. So we’ve tried to put an emphasis on that. Our responsibility is to gather information from around the world and disseminate it to the members, so they can react to it on an individual, company-bycompany basis. Some of it may be highly relevant to a few companies, some of it may be relevant to everybody. But part of AGEM’s responsibility is to bring that back and to educate its members. And finally, what will AGEM’s role be at the upcoming Global Gaming Expo? How will you increase your visibility there? We’ve worked closely with the AGA and think that these global trade shows are absolutely critical for the dissemination of information and the ability of everyone to get together from a networking standpoint. At this year’s show, we’ll once again have the AGEM booth and, among the many projects we work with the AGA on, none is bigger than the sponsorship that we do for the Chairman’s Reception every year. So, AGEM has always been front and center, and ready to do whatever it takes to help foster this industry and to move it forward.

AGS
Obsessed with the Game
A
GS is obsessed with the game. Whether it’s creating award-winning hardware, designing high-performing games for its slot or tablegames libraries or building player-favorite social casino solutions, AGS doesn’t waiver in its passions. At G2E 2017, visitors will get a closer look at the new gaming experiences AGS has been fixated on over the last year. Until then, here’s a peek inside AGS's latest obsessions. Slots AGS upped its hardware game with the debut of Orion last year, and since then it’s deepened its game library to include new titles that continue to drive performance well above house average. With stunning graphics and bonus features that take advantage of Orion’s impressive 42-inch display and 498 game-controlled LED lights, Fu Bao Bei, Lucky Lil’ Devils and Olympus Strikes are full of surprises driven by solid math to keep performance sky-high. G2E attendees also will see the newest addition to AGS’ Orion family of cabinets. AGS’ core library on ICON also has grown with new original titles like Capital Gains, Grand Royale and Jade Dragon. These new games combine with a multi-link progressive innovation—Money Charge Jackpots—and dynamic sign packages for an experience that heightens anticipation and creates more frequent wins. Luck and Prosperity, Koi Riches and Wild Surprize also add to the ICON game library, with links to Hot $ Jackpots, another new progressive family featuring core-gambler style math and gripping bonuses. Perhaps one of AGS’ favorite obsessions is Xtreme Jackpots. This first-of-its-kind multi-linked progressive ecosystem connects across both Orion and ICON for more frequent awards and more explosive jackpots. Buffalo Jackpots XJP and Longhorn Jackpots XJP drive the experience as established, player62 | G2E Preview 2017
favorite games with four jackpot levels and two exciting bonus rounds. Customized sign options and configurations extend the thrills and draw players in. Tables With nearly 2,000 table products installed worldwide, AGS’ obsession with the game goes way beyond the slot
floor. Last year, AGS introduced its award-winning Bonus Spin table game progressive solution, a product that gives players more winning experiences and heightens interaction. This year, AGS is spreading its reach with Bonus Spin Roulette for an even more engaging experience at the wheel. G2E visitors also can check out several new specialty games, like Premium Hold’em, which plays faster than traditional hold’em-style games and offers more action for players. Chase the Flush with Bonus Spin—powered by Dex S, the single-deck, commercialgrade shuffler—also gets a spotlight as a player-favorite poker derivative that has players competing with the dealer for the longest flush. AGS has been fixated on bringing retail-inspired innovations to table game signage as well. New roulette and baccarat signs embrace the value of dynamic, interactive displays that feature animations, crisp graphics and engaging content that can transform games, attract more play and captivate players for increased profit potential. Social Since the launch of AGS’ white-label social casino solution this spring, six new partners have harnessed the power of Social WLC to extend their brands, offer more engagement and drive more visits and revenue to their properties. AGS has been intently focused on offering customers this turn-key, customized social casino solution that’s based on proven, player-favorite, landbased content, including the newest additions Jade Wins, Shadow Fox Dreamcatcher and Rumble in the Jungle. AMERICAN NONSMOKERS’ RIGHTS FOUNDATION Breathe Easy American Nonsmokers’ Rights T heFoundation is a 501(c)3, nonprofit
organization whose mission is to promote nonsmoking as the national norm through educational programs, information dissemination, technical assistance and training. Founded in 1984, the organization has more than 30 years of experience promoting prevention and education about the health effects of smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. The ANR Foundation launched its Breathe Easy with Smokefree Casinos project in 2005. At the time, only seven states included gambling facilities such as card rooms, racetracks and/or casinos in smoke-free workplace laws. Currently, 21 states and territories include casinos in smoke-free workplace regulations, and seven tribal casinos are voluntarily smoke-free. Internationally, many countries require casinos to be smoke-free for worker
health. There are nearly 800 smoke-free gambling facilities across the United States; however, none of the largest gaming states
protect their casino workers from exposure to secondhand smoke. Nearly 90 percent of commercial and/or tribal casino workers still work in smoke-filled casinos. According to the U.S. Surgeon
General, there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke, and even a little exposure can cause a lot of harm. Smoking sections, smoking rooms and even sophisticated casino HVAC systems do not protect people from the health hazards associated with secondhand smoke exposure. The only known way to protect people from secondhand smoke is with a 100 percent smoke-free environment. Recognized as a leader in smokefree public education, technical assistance and training, the ANR Foundation is well-equipped to provide information, resources and assistance to individual casinos wishing to appeal to the 85 percent of the U.S. population of nonsmokers (including the majority of millennials who do not smoke) to voluntarily go smoke-free. TITA’s extreme ease of use offers casinos huge cost savings with no more fills and credits, no need for the cage to exchange chips and more. Also, both the casino and the player can benefit with the addition of a bill validator with a stacker or a high-speed bill discriminator. DUETTO
Unlocking the True Value of Guests kind of casino revenue manager W hat fills his or her casino-hotel night after night with comped guests? Unfortunately, in today’s gaming industry, he or she would be considered a pretty good one. But this is the mindset Duetto is working to change. The problem with over-comping is not only is money being left on the table, but there’s little transparency regarding who’s getting complimentary rooms. Too often, it’s not the right people. For example, a guest who does not gamble yet is willing to spend $400 at the spa also deserves some recognition. No longer should managers of integrated resorts be using a “gut feeling” to offer comps based only on information coming from the gaming floor. With Duetto’s growing suite of revenue strategy solutions, casinos can incorporate new data sources and predictive analytics into their reinvestment decisions and direct-marketing programs. The gaming
industry will continue to be crucial to Duetto’s growth as it introduces new products to complement its flagship application, GameChanger. The Find My Rate app allows the front desk and call center agents or hosts to search for player information with the push of a button and immediately receive the right rate—for the guest and for the bottom line. The company’s next innovation will upend the traditional casino block system— an outdated, inefficient way to fill casinohotel rooms. The BlockBuster application will bring open pricing to the traditional block system. Casinos can leverage Duetto’s solutions to forecast demand for each of their segments and yield group and transient rooms at the right price with the right comp criteria and reinvestment rates. COMPANY PROFILE
KONAMI GAMING, INC.
Play On
O
ver the years, Konami has become known for games and systems that stand the test of time. Most recently, this legacy has expanded to new areas of creativity. Never-before-seen developments like Titan 360, Rapid Revolver and Advantage Revolution gave a glimpse of what was possible. And now Konami’s strength in R&D has extended even further with leading skill-based games, novel multi-station releases and diverse game styles.
Players and operators are looking for new entertainment that not only is unique, but also has the substance to sustain excitement beyond the initial attraction. At G2E 2017, Konami proves its merits in each regard by giving operators a suite of captivating gaming options that welcome players to “play on,” and enjoy the full experience each casino has to offer. Leading Next-Gen Attractions Konami has a steep tradition of innovative entertainment with decades-long popular following. Over the past year, Konami’s expansion to new multi-station concepts and skill-based products has made this connection more apparent than ever. Last February, Konami’s Frogger: Get Hoppin’ became the first primary skill-based game to launch in Nevada. It’s since expanded to additional locations in the Las Vegas valley as well as New Jersey, and is slated to arrive at additional markets through the end of the year. Another skill-based gaming innovation that attracted crowds during last year’s G2E is a rhythmic dexterity game called Beat Square that challenges players to compete for top scores by tapping lighted square buttons to the beat of the music. In addition to pioneering the future of skill-based products, Konami is delivering high-entertainment multi-station product with its Fortune Cup horse-racing 74 | G2E Preview 2017
game and Crystal Cyclone, a physical ball-drop game inspired by the success of Titan 360. “What makes these games uniquely enjoyable for players goes beyond an initial novelty appeal. It’s how the individual play mechanics, mathematics, bonus events and entertainment delivery styles work together in harmony for continued excitement and engagement over time,” says Steve Walther, senior director, marketing and product management. “Whether it’s a new product category or a new game theme release, our focus is to create satisfying game play experiences that bring new levels of excitement to the gaming floor.” Proven Core Product Collection Konami’s Concerto Collection of video
slots has brought a strong library of new, proven performers to the market—from Chili Chili Fire and Dragon’s Law Twin Fever to the more recent Sparkling Roses and Dragon Fury. At G2E 2017, Konami will introduce a variety of never-before-seen game mechanics and captivating art styles, as well as exciting new iterations on proven classics. Guests can expect to see a large volume of single-screen games, including China Shores Great Stacks, Lucky O’Leary Jackpots and Konami’s next releases for its Castlevania series. “There remains a lot to be explored for large portrait-oriented game content,” says Walther. “It’s opened up new opportunities for innovative game mechanics for our developers to create and casino players to enjoy. Our team also has placed a considerable focus on stand-alone and linked progressive games. During this year’s show, we’ll have upwards of 20 different types of progressives on the floor.” Strength in Systems Konami systems technology—like its gaming product—is designed to deliver the utmost reliability while maximizing every touch point to keep players interested, active and engaged. Konami’s award-winning Synkros casino management system has expanded features from marketing to table games—all with a focus on giving casino operators greater flexibility and control to reach targeted player audiences based on advanced, agile data analytics. This, along with the latest tools and features, will be available for G2E guests to explore firsthand within a live, comprehensive demo environment.
