Bill Miller President & CEO American Gaming Association

ear Gaming Colleague:

I’m excited to head to Las Vegas in just a few weeks for my first Global Gaming Expo (G2E) as the new president and chief executive officer of the American Gaming Association (AGA). G2E is truly a must-attend event. Having attended once before, I’ve been looking forward to returning to the premiere gathering of the global gaming industry for some time. It will be an exciting few days exploring new products and gaming innovations on the expo floor, taking in the phenomenal roster of speakers and educational content, and meeting industry leaders to discuss today’s industry opportunities and the critical issues we’ll face in the future. But what I’m most looking forward to is the opportunity to meet so many of you and share our vision for the future of the industry. At AGA, we are dedicated to creating an environment where gaming can thrive and realize its full potential as an exciting entertainment option for millions of Americans and a source of economic growth in the communities that gaming calls home. Last year, commercial casino gaming marked its fourth consecutive year of growth, with more than $41.7 billion in economic impact. Tax revenue, reinvested into local communities, also grew to a record-breaking $9.7 billion. Tribal gaming produced yet another record-setting year with total gaming revenue topping $32 billion in 2017. The more than 40 states that now allow commercial or tribal casino gaming are evidence of the industry’s growing popularity across the country, particularly as the legalization of sports betting has brought our offerings to new states that had previously never offered casino gaming. As we look to build the future of gaming, AGA is focused on three priorities that will feature prominently during G2E: • Sports betting has been a major factor pow-

4

G2E PREVIEW 2019

ering our industry’s growth over the past 18 months since the Supreme Court’s ruling on PASPA. With roughly 20 states having legalized sports betting, it’s more important than ever that we get sports betting done right. G2E’s Sports Betting Symposium will explore regulatory and industry developments surrounding this new landscape and the massive opportunities ahead, giving attendees new tools to ensure this new market in the United States is rolled out in a thoughtful and responsible manner. • Positive public attitudes toward our industry are essential to creating an environment where gaming continues to thrive. AGA is focused on translating public sentiment—acceptance of our mainstream form of entertainment is at an alltime high—into political capital. Such efforts include demonstrating how seriously we take our responsibility to the communities that welcome us as partners, whether it is through our role as a leading employer or advancing measures that put responsible gaming at the forefront of all that we do. This year’s show features a robust lineup of topical education sessions that address our industry’s many commitments in these areas. • Finally, there are opportunities for modernization that allow the industry to operate more effectively, give customers the gaming experience they want and support regulators’ oversight function. When you consider the fact that casino gaming is one of the last cash-based businesses, we have ample room to grow. At this year’s show, we are putting a spotlight on several of the innovators in fintech who are working to bridge the gap between consumers’ expectations around payment choice and what they currently encounter on the casino floor. G2E is an incredible platform to showcase all that the gaming industry offers. Thank you for the opportunity to represent you and help set the table for what will be an incredible few days in October. I look forward to meeting you.

2019 CASINO COMMUNICATIONS

Q&A Korbi Carrison Event Director, G2E, Reed Exhibitions

K

orbi Carrison is entering her second Global Gaming Expo (G2E) as event director. With a long history in the gaming industry, Carrison has been well received by exhibitors and attendees alike. G2E is presented by the American Gaming Association and organized by Reed Exhibitions. G2E 2019 returns to the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, October 14-17. Carrison spoke with GGB Publisher Roger Gros in August. GGB: Now that you have a year under your belt, how have you been able to plan for G2E 2019 now that you’re familiar with all the exhibitors and processes? Carrison: As you can imagine, the G2E team be-

gins planning for the next event edition even before the current show ends. We hear feedback on-site and are always looking for ways to improve year-over-year. Following an amazing 2018 event and jackpot year for the commercial casino gaming industry, there has never been a more opportune time for G2E to keep growing and improving. G2E must continually deliver content and experiences that are relevant and exciting to our attendees. We strive to make G2E a better platform every year. Sports betting has been front-and-center on the past two G2Es. Now that almost 20 states have legalized it, what are you planning to offer to attendees on that side of the business?

Sports betting continues to be important with many states still considering legalization, and for those that have legalized it, learning how to implement and regulate. States are deciding whether or not this opportunity is right for them and if it is, who the technology providers are that match well with for their particular jurisdictional needs. So we are looking to build on the education that we presented last year, and dig a little bit deeper into all of the different questions that the operators may have. This will be the second G2E Sports Betting Symposium, and it has eight dedicated sessions, including a tour of several technology vendors 6

G2E PREVIEW 2019

that make products specifically designed for sports betting markets. This must be an opportunity to attract exhibitors and attendees who have never been to G2E in the past. How are you reaching out to these people?

With the gaming industry always evolving and changing, there is always an opportunity to attract new exhibitors and attendees. A lot of international sports betting companies are bringing their technologies and programs to the U.S. market to help states implement sports betting in each area. Another growth area that is taking the gaming industry by storm is alternative payment applications. We’re focusing a lot on growing this segment with both exhibitor and attendees because those technologies are already used by consumers in their daily lives. Their casino gaming experience should be no different. Tribal gaming has always played a large role in G2E. It looks like you’ve expanded the tribal gaming track. With Victor Rocha curating it, I’m sure it’s going to be very informative. What’s in store?

G2E will once again present a robust lineup of tribal gaming-related content for this year, including a Monday keynote speaker, D.J. Eagle Bear Vanas, the internationally acclaimed motivational storyteller, leadership speaker and member of the Odawa Nation of Michigan. Vanas, who is a celebrated author and former military officer, shows organizations how to practically apply the power of the warrior spirit to perform at their best, and stay resilient and thrive in tough, changing environments. He is a pioneer in the tribal community. Tribal gaming education will again take place over all four days of G2E including feature sessions on sports betting, esports and tribal leadership. It seems that technology is the byword of the year for G2E. Tell us how you’re stressing that in 2019.

We are not only stressing innovative technology, but disruptive technology. Attendees come to expect

new technology across the expo hall floor, but it’s also a theme in this year’s Innovation Lab. Our theme in the Innovation Lab on Tuesday is Disruptive Technology, and Wednesday is New Uses for Existing Technology. Each day features a series of quick, 15-minute presentations and discussions that promise to really get outside the box with the thought processes related to technologies. Many of the concepts that will be discussed here are not yet ready for the expo hall floor, but we will be sure to see them there in years to come. Speaking of technology, the G2E app is new and improved. How can you improve the attendee experience if they use the app?

The mobile app, once again sponsored by Konami, is the best resource to find all information G2E-related. It not only has the most up-to-date education sessions and exhibitor list, we’re launching new features designed to empower the attendee to personalize and maximize their experience at G2E. This year, we’re launching direct messaging in our mobile app, where attendees will be able to reach out directly to exhibitors to set up appointments and begin conversations. We’ll also be building on the success of the G2E Recommendations Program, delivering a personalized list of exhibitors, education sessions and special events based on search activities within the app. Attendees will also be able to look up booth-tobooth directions and have access to interactive show floor maps, or visit Ask G2E, for real-time answers to questions. We recently did a survey on the GGB website asking our readers to tell us what trade show or conference they considered the most important in the industry. The winner was clearly G2E with nearly 60 percent of the vote. Other shows didn’t get half that much. To what do you attribute that?

The networking and business opportunities at G2E are second to none. The industry convergence on a single venue to meet up with current and former associates to conduct business and socialize is unparalleled. We continue to push the envelope, look at the current landscape and see how we can best activate G2E in a way that’s most valuable to the gaming industry.

2019 AGEM Q&A

Q&A Luke Orchard President, Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers

T

he Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) changed leadership last year when Luke Orchard, senior vice president, chief compliance and risk management officer for IGT, took over as president in October 2018. He will serve a two-year term. He answered questions from GGB about his term in office so far. GGB: It’s been an eventful first year for you as president of AGEM. What has been your priority or priorities during that time? Orchard: Well, we were off to an interesting

start of the year after the Department of Justice reversed its 2011 opinion stating that the Wire Act only applies to sports betting. The new opinion essentially stated that the Wire Act is applicable to any form of gambling. This became an urgent matter for AGEM to assess, which we continue to do in light of the very recent news that the Department of Justice appealed the June 3 decision. We once thought that AGEM had reached its maximum number of members, but in the past year, you’ve continued to grow membership. Is it exciting to expand AGEM’s influence into the sports betting and technology fields of gaming?

Yes, we hit a new high of 175 members in April, and I think that speaks to the overall sector’s vibrancy, and that includes an injection of new companies and technology as the industry continues to evolve. It’s interesting AGEM was formed by the “big four” of IGT, Aristocrat, Bally and WMS in 2000, and look at the organization now.

8

CEO Tim Cook in an attempt to let them know how difficult it would be to meet their September 3 deadline. We’re still fighting as those affected continue to work to meet Apple’s demands. It’s a very complex puzzle everyone is trying to solve. The industry is very interested in the legalization of gaming in both Japan and Brazil. How is AGEM keeping its members abreast of developments in those countries?

Brazil remains a frustration, but AGEM has made great inroads in Japan. We have established a direct dialogue with the Preparation Office of the Japan Casino Regulatory Commission in the Cabinet Office as regulations and technical standards impacting suppliers are contemplated. They have asked our members to supply them with machines, systems and progressives for testing, and it’s important for us to have a voice in the process going forward. This will be a focus for the next several years. Responsible gaming is an important part of the legalization process in those countries, as well as in all countries where gaming currently exists. How is AGEM contributing to those efforts?

AGEM is extremely active on this front, led by our Director of Responsible Gaming Connie Jones. We’re a contributor to every major problem gambling organization in the U.S. and also give to GamCare in the U.K. We have a Responsible Gaming Committee that Connie chairs and our members are generally well-informed about RG issues. I think the discussion on the importance of doing the right thing in our industry has never been more active.

AGEM members were challenged by Apple’s new guidelines on gaming apps. How did AGEM respond and what are you hoping for the resolution?

AGEM has always been a strong supporter of streamlined regulations so you can get your products and services on the casino floors as quickly as possible. How do you do that when your members are active in so many states and jurisdictions?

We knew it would be an uphill battle to get Apple to change its direction on this, but the potential negative impact on online gaming and sports betting was too great for us not to engage. And so we have worked with the App Review Team and taken our position all the way up to

Regulatory reform remains a top priority, and needs to remain so. We have to pick and choose our battles because the landscape is so vast, but we will certainly respond to any agency that wants to discuss updating regulations or technical standards. And we do that all the time. We have had an especially

G2E PREVIEW 2019

strong focus on Nevada over the past year, first with Chairwoman Becky Harris and now Chairwoman Sandra Morgan. I think we are making steady progress, not as fast as we’d like, but it’s important that gaming technology keeps moving forward in all jurisdictions. Skill/variable payback games are still in their infancy, but are becoming more sophisticated and prevalent. How are you handling the regulatory and technical aspects of that area of the business?

I think that just falls into the overall regulatory picture. New games and concepts need to be embraced by regulators, and we as suppliers need to come up with fresh entertainment options for players. We’re competing with so many other entertainment options these days. An area that interests your slot manufacturer members and their suppliers is the legalization of slots/VLT/EGMs at bars, restaurants, convenience stores and the like. How are you approaching that issue, particularly since many of your existing clients, such as the casinos, oppose those efforts?

We’re not overly active in pushing distributed gaming because typically those battles are fought at the local level in different states, but no one can fault our members for taking advantage of new opportunities. The casinos get engaged as they see fit and know the suppliers are simply participating in a business process. What do you see the future of AGEM being in the next five years? What role is AGEM going to play in the future development of gaming?

We will forge ahead and continue to look after the overall health of the supplier sector. At the end of the day, that involves a lot of moving parts and pieces, and each one is important—regulatory reform, responsible gaming, expansion opportunities, advancing new technology, working collaboratively with other industry associations, promoting the positive impact of suppliers on gaming overall. We have small team with Executive Director Marcus Prater, Director of Europe Tracy Cohen and Connie, but we sure get a lot accomplished.

2019 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Now For Something Different G2E is always noted for its great keynotes. Whether it was Steve Wynn or Sheldon Adelson, Jim Murren or Gary Loveman, Larry King or Whoopi Goldberg, the keynotes are always a big attraction. While the headliners haven’t been announced at press time, G2E offers a twist on the two announced keynote speakers that will benefit attendees by thinking outside the box.

‘V’ For Victory

Making a Market

A

S

cclaimed author and motivational speaker D.J. Eagle Bear Vanas will deliver the opening keynote when G2E comes to Las Vegas on Monday, October 14. A former military officer and member of the Ottawa Indian Nation, Vanas is the author of The Tiny Warrior: A Path to Personal Discovery & Achievement and Spirit on the Run, a popular series of books focusing on how organizations can apply the “power of the warrior spirit,” as he terms it, to perform at their best, stay resilient and thrive amid change. According to Vanas, his presentation will focus on winning. Victory is not born from waiting for a better economy, a new administration, the perfect moment or the exact mix of resources, he says. It’s about using what we have right now, around us and within us, to create success. Your clients, customers and coworkers deserve the best service you can provide them—regardless of circumstances—and this program will empower and inspire you to do just that. You’ll learn how to use warrior spirit principles to leverage your precious supplies of time and energy into results, creating clarity to get more done, adopt a resilient mindset that is fiercely focused on solutions, and understand that the business of warriors can make us warriors in business. The program is created to be engaging, motivating and entertaining, but most importantly, it’s created to show your people that victory in what they do does not depend on luck, chance or hope. Victory is by design. Korbi Carrison, G2E’s event director, said this year’s organizers are “thrilled” to have Vanas participate. “D.J. Vanas is a pioneer in the tribal community and is an asset to our tribal gaming educational program,” Carrison said.

G2E PREVIEW 2019

cott Stratten, president of UnMarketing and a top marketing influencer, will offer G2E attendees the opportunity to better market their products and services using disruptive techniques and technology on Tuesday, October 15. In his address, Stratten will present strategies and insights from a business leadership perspective and drawing from his experience as a longtime patron of the gaming industry. Stratten is co-host of UnPodcast and author of five best-selling books, including UnMarketing: Everything Has Changed and Nothing is Different. He ran one of the most successful viral video agencies in the world, and now assists companies like Walmart, Pepsi and IBM in navigating the landscape of business disruption. “Scott Stratten’s unconventional lessons on ‘UnMarketing’ are crucial to share at G2E, particularly during our current evolution in customer engagement and expectations given the influence of technology on traditional marketing,” said Allie Barth, AGA’s vice president of industry relations. In addition to the keynote address, Stratten will offer a second session titled “UnMarketing: A Follow Up Q&A,” October 15 from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. “We are excited to hear from Scott as he brings his ideas to the G2E Special Events Stage on how the gaming industry can think differently about interacting with the customers who matter most, about everything from world-class guest experiences to entertainment on and off casino floors,” said Korbi Carrison, G2E event director.

When Self-Service Is the Best Service Kiosk technologies have changed casino floors, hotel front desks, bars, restaurants, parking garages and more. Surprisingly, while automating once-human transactions, they have made hospitality more hospitable. By Marjorie Preston

n the Jetson Age—i.e., the present day—it’s entirely possible for a resort guest to arrive at his destination, park, check in, play, dine, play some more, cash out and leave, all without a person-to-person exchange. While such human-free visits are hardly the norm, self-service technologies, especially kiosks, now handle all manner of once-human transactions, like redeeming loyalty points, ordering drinks or exchanging currencies. Are such technologies taking the personal touch out of personal service? Not at all, says Jeffrey Hoss, vice president of product marketing for gaming giant Everi, which recently acquired Atrient and its kiosk assets and rebranded them as its Loyalty1 kiosk platform. Far from crimping customer service, kiosks free staff from mundane data-capture and paperpushing tasks so they can focus more on “a servicefirst culture,” Hoss says, “enriching the patron experience with face-to-face contact.” So, not so inhuman after all.

With data capture that’s quick and error-free, they’re preferred both by customers and operators, says Hoss. “More than 70 percent of card reprints are processed on Everi’s 1Enroll kiosk. Four out of five operators prefer to gather patron information via kiosks like 1Enroll, which can reprint cards 40 percent faster.” Everi’s 1Promo lets operators move away from traditional drawing drums for a more user-friendly experience. “The experience is fully digital and can be displayed on any video device in a casino. A timer lets patrons know to claim their prize within a fixed amount of time. 1Promo can be used as a slot concierge, to promote restaurants, retail outlets and other amenities,” and even request W-2G forms. “We believe it’s the hub of our ‘digital neighborhood,’ and allows other platforms, cash-access or compliance, to interact with our loyalty platform and make the guest experience frictionless,” Hoss says. Everi’s mobile platform integrates the same functionality as 1Promo for hand-held devices—an essential these days, with more than 80 percent of Americans on mobile phones.

On their face, kiosks help by simplifying and speeding essential transactions, eliminating wait lines, and letting people manage the details of their visit without an intermediary. The machines never get tired, get sick, or have a bad day.

Kiosks are an indispensable part of the sportsbook, too, as operators in emerging stateside markets have found. Max Bichsel, U.S. director of Malta-based sports betting provider Kambi, says fully two-thirds of wagers at the company’s partner casinos in Pennsylvania are made

via kiosk, and more than half of revenues at its U.S. sportsbooks are generated through the machines. Not only are kiosks efficient, they “play a vital role in educating the novice player,” who can be intimidated at first by the OTC experience. “People can get a slick view of many more markets than over the counter or displayed on the large odds boards, as well as get to grips with the terminology.” A kiosk offers “an intuitive, pressure-free way for players to familiarize themselves, place a few small bets and get the ball rolling,” Bichsel says. No queues, no pressure, no problem. As for increased revenues, just do the math. For example, Kambi kiosks let customers re-scan winning tickets and recycle cash to quickly wager again. “The kiosks also lend themselves to the immediacy of in-play, enhancing the discoverability of new markets and making reinvesting winnings a cinch,” Bichsel says. As players play, they’re kept up-to-date on special events and offers, all on the same screen—for example, the home screen can greet first-time bettors with offers like “Bet $50 and your first drink is on us.”

bets per hour and multiple betting options that provide a quick-pick style of playing,” McLaughlin says. “Just by virtue of the increase in speed and the volume of the betting, the revenue increase is inevitable. “I think back to working in the Las Vegas sportsbook and watching bettors rush the windows only to get agitated when there weren’t enough windows open, or they were shut out of their wager,” she recalls. “They don’t like to stand in a line, increase their anxiety, and question the decision as they wait for a race or event to kick off.” Rick Meitzler, president and CEO of Novomatic Americas, sums up the appeal of sports betting kiosks for the end user: “Multiple games, multiple wagers, numerous ways to bet. It gets both operators and customers into action quickly.”

Strength in Numbers In December 2018, Novomatic’s F-V830 full-service sports betting kiosk, outfitted with the Kambi platform, made its North America debut in Atlantic City, at the DraftKings Sportsbook at Resorts Casino Hotel. “Though the bets at kiosks are smaller and spread more compared to OTC, the first week we launched, about 75 percent of all handle was kiosk-driven,” says Kathleen McLaughlin, vice president of marketing for Novomatic Americas. That ratio continues to hold, she adds, confirming kiosks’ popularity with bettors. By slashing wait times and lines, Novomatic’s ActionBook kiosk lets operators capitalize on high-volume betting periods. “Kiosks allow more

According to SalesForce.com, two-thirds of consumers prefer self-service or “unattended” transactions including banking, shopping, booking reservations and even ordering food and drinks. One Size Doesn’t Fit All Las Vegas-based MGT develops software to automate, track and report casino transactions, working with other player tracking systems and touchscreen devices like slot machines and kiosks. Since 2001, MGT has grown from a single installation to serve more than 260 casinos in 34 states. Its flagship product, the Promotional Intelligence Suite or MGT Promo, lets casino marketers easily create and install any type of promotion: electronic drawings, scratch cards, swipe-to-win, new member bonuses, bounce-backs, and promotions based on age or other demographic factors. When a player swipes a card at the kiosk, the system instantly tailors a reward for that individual. G2E PREVIEW 2019

Building the Perfect Employee he family business now known as Olea Kiosks Inc. began in 1975 as a woodworking enterprise operating out of a rented garage in Downey, California. Founded by master carpenter Fernando Olea, it first produced furniture and cabinetry, then largescale trade show exhibits, and finally self-service kiosks, working in the early 1980s for companies like Ticketmaster. Today, under third-generation CEO Frank Olea, the company’s kiosks fulfill multiple roles in the gaming space: loyalty, hotel self-check in, wayfinding, food and beverage purchases, and more. “A kiosk is like an employee,” says Olea. Properly programmed and regularly maintained, it can perform its appointed task, glitch-free, day after day, possibly for years. “But designed poorly, it’s going to perform poorly all day, and never apologize once.” For that reason, the company’s custom-built terminals go through multiple iterations, field trials and modifications to ensure they perform to each client’s specifications. They are designed to stand up to constant use and even abuse—a must in the 24/7 casino world. “We’ve put kiosks at train stations, airports and even prisons, so we’ve seen it all—scratching and punching monitors, trying to break the glass, pulling the buttons off, things being poured on machines,” says Olea. Olea kiosks are built to be liquid-proof, vandal-proof, and resistant to skimming devices that steal customer PIN numbers, raid their bank accounts and get their hands on personal information. Today, Olea operates out of a 48,000-squarefoot campus in Southern California, serving the health-care, education, retail and government industries as well as gaming. The typical shelf life of a casino kiosk is five to seven years, Olea says, though 10 years is not unheard of. So he was recently gratified to visit the Pala Casino in San Diego, where the company installed a number of kiosks in 2005. “There they were, working just fine,” he says with pride, “14 years later.”

“It just took off—the industry deemed it a mission-critical piece of equipment.” —Michael Dominelli, President, NRT

Inventing the Future In 1993, Canadian inventor John Dominelli launched NRT Technology Corp. to build cash registers, scanners and other POS solutions for big-box retailers. Though Dominelli had never been to a casino in his life, he would soon create the first ticket redemption (TITO) and jackpot attendant kiosks for the gaming industry. At the time, casinos were moving from labor-intensive coin slots to paper tickets, but with no way to automate payouts, players still had to line up at a cage to redeem their winnings. Tapped by Casino Niagara in Ontario, Dominelli was asked to develop a system that would dispense with coins, tabulate winnings to the penny, and timestamp the transaction. “He basically took an ATM foundation, developed a sidecar with two bill validators and a coin dispenser, and engineered it to not only make the bill validator talk to the ATM, but also to the gaming host who validated the ticket,” says John’s son, Michael Dominelli, president of NRT. The system debuted in Canada at Casino Niagara and in the U.S. at Atlantic City’s Borgata. “It just took off—the industry deemed it a mission-critical piece of equipment,” Dominelli says. It’s no wonder: TITO reduced ticket redemption times from as much as an hour to about 10 seconds. In today’s hack-happy world, machines such as NRT’s NEO cashhanding and payment kiosk are reinforced to foil any bad actors. “As soon as you insert your card, the data is encrypted and tokenized,” says Dominelli. In case of a hacking attempt, from inside or outside an organization, “intrusion protection and hard-disk encryption lock down the machine and require two pieces of code from our support center” to reopen it.

24

G2E PREVIEW 2019

In 2018, NRT acquired multiple companies to expand its capabilities over the coming decade, including VisuaLimits, a table-sign tech provider with more than 5,000 units deployed; OfferCraft, an awardwinning software used by casinos to attract more players and encourage higher spend per visit; and NCC, one of the most effective credit management solutions in North America. Today, with John Dominelli still at the helm as CEO, NRT processes billions of dollars in payments each year, and serves the world’s top 25 largest casinos.

Means to an End Global Payment’s Christopher Justice says kiosk technology is “going to be more and more relevant. Operators need a clear strategy for using self-service to connect with guests, enable critical innovations such as consumer mobility, and provide a more consistent experience across the entire gaming entertainment experience.” “Most customers will always take the shortest distance between them and what they want,” says MGT’s Carrico. “Our kiosks provide that.” By liberating resort guests from long lines, letting them quickly complete needed transactions, and safeguarding their personal data, kiosks let them be about their real business: having fun.

p. 20 kiosks:Layout 1 8/28/19 5:20 PM Page 25

Cash on Demand Q&A with Christopher Justice, President of Gaming Solutions, Global Payments GGB: Beyond speed and simplicity, why do customers use kiosks? Christopher Justice: According to

SalesForce.com, two-thirds of consumers prefer self-service. Our gaming cash access solutions accept multiple forms of payment and speak multiple languages. They generate data that support operators in their marketing and player development efforts. And they provide additional security for everyone. By 2020, the kiosk industry could be valued at $13 billion. What’s driving that growth, and how does it affect loyalty?

Guests will continue to trust kiosks for increasingly valuable transactions and become increasingly frustrated by lines and poor human-centered experiences. But that doesn’t come at the expense of loyalty. Savvy operators are leveraging digital as a key component of their loyalty strategy and reallocating the efficiencies gained from kiosks to provide more high-touch experiences on the floor.

People are always looking at screens. What are their expectations when it comes to touch, responsiveness, image definition, etc.?

Guests expect the experience on a self-service screen to be the same as on a mobile device—easy, elegant and intuitive. Clicks kill, and if it’s not an efficient process, guests will abandon it. We use a rigorous UX/UI approach to ensure the experience is great, and that everything from accessibility to screen contrast and font size is carefully crafted and aligned with best practices. Where are gaming kiosks used most, and what will they do in the future?

It’s not uncommon to see kiosks for TITO, ATMs, player cards and event ticketing. Hotel front desks are working to make them a commonplace part of the check-in experience. We just launched VIP Mobility, a mobile cash application that enables guests to purchase and redeem TITO tickets, fund slots and table games, and get cash without leaving their seats, all from their mobile device. We continue to invest in the guest and operator experiences— everything from enhanced UI to multi-layered security and predictive maintenance alerts. And we’ve recently enabled digital currency conversion and multilingual capabilities for international guests, and are exploring alternative payments and currencies to meet consumers’ growing expectations.

GlobalSuite Real Time CASINO DATA IMAGING • BOOTH 3659

oes real-time data even matter? That can be answered through the following questions: Are real-time notifications of security events useful? Can notification of bill validator issues improve business? Can operators make use of converting uncarded players to carded players? Will real-time awareness of counterfeit bills reduce loss? Can knowing hourly occupancy help marketing and scheduling personnel? The consensus from the industry is a resounding yes. With that, Casino Data Imaging is pleased to have released version 1.0 GlobalSuite (GS) Real Time module and to demonstrate it at G2E Booth 3659. This development gives gaming operators a view of their casino floor that is up to date to the second. They can see who is playing, where they are playing, if that particular session is hot or cold, and get a quick and immediate view of the current level of occupancy with total breakdown for carded and uncarded play. This includes showing coin-in/coin-out and hold percentages during that gaming day up to that moment. GS Real Time is polling the floor 24/7 so when opening, the floor is instantly updated and live. Toggle back and forth from historical to real time (same map powers both). In addition to being an add-on module to GlobalSuite, customers can license Real Time as stand-alone software. But there’s a lot more to this than just getting a view into the players. You can turn on all the security events such as illegal door openings, monitor potential money laundering and more. More nuanced data points, such as bill validator status, bill counts or counterfeiting issues, are even more opaque with real-time analysis. GS Real Time Encoding Manager allows users to easily create custom views by selecting from over 250 machine and player events. Real Time Tickers, player searches and alerts, 3D rendered EGDs and table games (modeled to within a tenth of an inch of the actual size), reports, and much more. We are just scratching the surface. GlobalSuite updates happen fast with customers receiving monthly updates.

TITA and CATA enable uninterrupted play by eliminating table fills and credits, saving major time, cost and security risk by keeping the chips inventory at the table. The operator also sees a reduced number of chip transactions at the cages with cashless transactions processed at kiosks. Cash collection and reconciliation processes are also streamlined. And with its latest addition to the TITA range, CountR boasts the industry-fastest small form factor bulk bill validator with escrow. Online Loyalty Redemption DUETTO • BOOTH 4000

W

ith all the technology innovation that has happened in the casino space over the years, there was one glaring pain point casino operators could not seem to grasp: how to allow loyalty members to book their discounted and comp rooms on the casino website. For loyalty members who have earned discounts or comps through their play, the process of redeeming those offers often required phoning a call center to book a stay. On top of that, most guests didn’t even know they qualified for comps or special rates until they received a postcard in the mail. Today, innovative and integrated systems allow casinos to offer online loyalty redemption. Once logged in, players are able to see their status– past and open sports bets, discretionary comps, free buffets, etc. From there, users can choose to book a room. Online redemption allows casinos to: • Introduce more dynamic player reward programs that will increase profitability • Allow guests to redeem their offer on the same channel as they book their trip • Consider the benefits of reduced call center traffic • Prompt guests to enroll in the rewards program

28

G2E PREVIEW 2019

With an online-redemption system, casinos are still valuing guests based on total customer worth and average daily theoretical spend, but now they’ve got the ability to be a lot more dynamic with offers. Instead of offering comped rooms, staff can quote a dynamic rate based on total customer value and the property’s supply/demand dynamics. The Duetto Rate Engine (DRE) helps hotels and casinos send rate and inventory data from their PMS to their booking engine while also including and analyzing loyalty player card information and redemption status. Duetto is able to accomplish this without collecting any personal data about casino players, and has parameters in place to prevent what is commonly known as “comp abuse,” or high-valued players either sharing their player number with others or booking multiple nights at a time. Once a player has met his redemption quota, the system will send back the BAR rate.

veri enhanced and expanded its already-proven stand-alone Empire 5527 cabinet to create Empire Arena, a fully featured and flexible banked product with multiple configurations, starting with three units up to eight units. The product consumes up to 20 percent less floor space in a six-unit carousel configuration versus a conventional four-unit carousel, due to the space-efficient design of the nucleus of Empire Arena. Further, many competitors’ video wall products are limited to a four-in-line configuration for a wall placement; however, Empire Arena can be configured for placement anywhere on the floor. In addition to its banking flexibility, Empire Arena is powered by Everi’s Nitro media system, which enables operators to offer their patrons a fully immersive entertainment experience across the bank. This experience will be on full display at G2E with The Vault, the new follow-on series to the industry-topping launch theme Shark Week. Players will be wowed by The Vault’s three unique base games that feature a touch-capable 27-inch, landscape-oriented lower LCD screen and a 55-inch portrait-format, nontouch upper screen showcasing multiple bonus features. One of the most innovative elements of this particular theme on Empire Arena is the heart-pounding bank-wide bonus feature Diamond Rush.

ncredible Technologies (IT) is launching its latest product merchandising package utilizing the Infinity Edge. The Infinity V55 Edge Pinwheel is IT’s unconventional answer to a standard carousel configuration, and it creates an instant feature bank that’s the first of its kind. Game cabinets are separated by Edge monitors, each angled to provide unprecedented player comfort and ease of access for casino floor service members, without disrupting play. Available in banks of six and eight, the Pinwheel is the ideal solution to wrap unsightly columns as well as serve as a centerpiece for any gaming section. Each Pinwheel bank plays custom content on the brilliant 4K Edge displays, and playlists are curated specifically for each individual property. Operators can easily change the content as themes are converted on the bank. As with all Edge banks, operators are given the opportunity to also include custom content to advertise the property’s on-site amenities like player card programs, entertainment venues and dining. For casinos looking to create a truly show-stopping bank, IT offers the chance to create section-branded attract video for a cohesive package that reiterates the casino brand and blends seamlessly with the property. The Pinwheel configuration entices players from every angle with continuous 4K video that demands attention. Before the Edge’s introduction, casinos were left with costly signage packages or stagnant plexiglass wedges when seeking a better way to market games to their customers. With the introduction of the Edge, the possibilities are nearly infinite. “Paired with powerful gaming content and a beautiful view from any angle, the Infinity V55 Edge Pinwheel is the innovative bank every slot floor needs,” says a company official. CM Global’s patented Fuzion technology is a breakthrough innovation that enables an endless variety of opportunities throughout the entire casino. At this year’s G2E, JCM will showcase a mobile transaction technology solution within Fuzion called iTITO, or Intelligent TITO. iTITO allows operators to expand existing cash and TITO transaction methods that players already enjoy, by enabling mobile iTITO transactions. With iTITO, players can use their mobile phones to complete their buy-in and cash-out transactions at the EGM and redemption kiosks throughout a property. iTITO increases revenue opportunities by allowing the next generation of player a safe and secure “mobile wallet” experience with the proven security of their existing electronic TITO system. Once operators integrate the Fuzion system, they can add the JCM Mobile I/O NFC device into any EGM or kiosk. Using this NFC technology, the player’s mobile phone allows them to begin their gaming experience by securely initiating iTITO transactions. Players can merge existing paper TITO tickets into the iTITO system sim-

38

G2E PREVIEW 2019

ply by taking a photo of the ticket with their mobile phone. Players can use Mobile I/O to buy in or cash out with the iTITO system at an EGM, or through Mobile I/O interaction with a redemption kiosk. iTITO tickets are then electronically linked to the player’s account and can only be accessed from the mobile devices associated with their account. When the player is ready to complete the gaming experience, iTITO can be used at the kiosk to redeem the iTITO tickets for cash, or to deposit the funds back into the player’s preferred account. Players are connected to their mobile phones. iTITO allows casinos to increase their connection with those players in a meaningful way, through a device that players are comfortable with. iTITO fulfills operators’ desire to keep both cash and TITO in play, while at the same time expanding transaction methods, giving players even more payment options. iTITO, Mobile I/O, and Fuzion combine the power of innovation with existing technology. aming professionals and executives will encounter leading-edge solutions to reach, engage, understand, monitor and reward casino guests in the Synkros area of Konami Gaming, Inc.’s 2019 G2E display. The award-winning casino systems developer is presenting a top lineup of technology, including its SYNK Vision facial recognition, all-in-one Title 31 AML system SYNK31, and SynkConnect player mobile app. SYNK Vision is a biometric player tracking solution that uses facial recognition to identify, rate and reward all players, regardless whether they are members of the established player loyalty program. It tracks players automatically based on their unique facial characteristics rather than requiring them to manually sign up or use a player’s tracking card. When players with an existing account sit down at a slot machine or table game, SYNK Vision recognizes them and displays their name with a welcome message without any manual input. Or if the player has not registered a loyalty account, his or her biometric identity is assigned a personal anonymous account for ongoing engagement and tracking. This enables casino operators to truly see, analyze, rate and reward all “carded” and “uncarded” play activity on their floor for the first time. Konami’s new SYNK31 is a comprehensive Title 31 Anti-Money Laundering (AML) system that allows permissioned Synkros administrators to gather, track, review and complete all AML requirements, including Multiple Transaction Log (MTL), Negotiable Instrument Log (NIL), Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR), Currency Transaction Reporting (CTR), Know Your Customer (KYC) and more. It supports automated delivery of IRS forms, for maximum ease and efficiency. In addition, SYNK 31 provides true case management, empowering administrators to compile all reporting, time-stamped notes, files documents, screenshots, photos, videos, and emails associated with a particular patron or incident in one spot. Award-winning Synkros mobile technology will also be showcased at this year’s event. SynkConnect player mobile application is a “cardless” player tracking solution that empowers players to log in to any equipped EGM through the app and enjoy all the tools to manage their loyalty account from anywhere. These advancements and more will be available for guests to experience at the Konami booth throughout G2E 2019. For more information, visit konamigaming.com.

G2E PREVIEW 2019

he announcement of the Rapid Thunder bonus feature, an in-built add-on to the Taco Tuesday, Land of Charms, Immortal Emperor, Immortal Princess, Baozang and Amulet of the Pharaoh game titles, has enhanced the Merkur Gaming Americas portfolio in an unique and truly dramatic manner. Rapid Thunder’s free games phase is initiated when three of various scatter symbols appear during the player’s selected base game. The route to big jackpot wins is for the player to reveal and collect Rapid Thunder icons, highlighting game grid positions along the way with Rapid Thunder Halo symbols. Collecting two vertical columns of Rapid Thunder Blocks (each vertical column filled forming a Rapid Thunder Block) wins the Mini jackpot, three Rapid Thunder Blocks win the Minor Jackpot, and so on, in search of completely filling the screen’s three-by-five grid with Rapid Thunder Blocks and thus winning the Max Grand big money prize of $10,000. Rapid Thunder is an All-Prizes-Pay bonus feature. Players who win up to and including the Max Grand jackpot level have their wins paid cumulatively—meaning that, for example, a Grand-level winner can also win the Major, Minor and Mini jackpot prizes too, all paid together in one prize. Also, the player has multiple chances to win. Each Rapid Thunder symbol that appears is rewarded with an additional free game: and thus more opportunities to win. The free games feature continues until no more free games are won or until the maximum number of free games is achieved. With Rapid Thunder, wins come in multiples. Reaching the maximum of 35 Rapid Thunder free games is rewarded with the Max Grand jackpot and all of the any other associated prizes that have been won during the free games. “The game has a jackpot bonus, and the jackpot bonus is the game,” says Merkur Gaming Americas CEO Charles Hiten (pictured).

Super Shufflers SHARK TRAP, LLC • BOOTH 5243

S

hark Trap, LLC recently received GLI certification for an extraordinary new line of functional, revolutionary, elegant and dependable table-top “Super Shufflers.” The company will showcase its patented Combination Single-Deck and Double-Deck, Novelty-Game and Poker Super Shufflers in the booth of Aces Up, its distributor (5243), on live games throughout the G2E show. Following years of development, including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Engineering’s co-creation of the first pre-prototype shuffling apparatus, the Super Shufflers’ unique features will fundamentally change the methods that operators employ to mix and distribute cards. At only 550 cubic inches (the smallest shufflers ever developed), Shark Trap sufflers feature the world’s only true random number generators (TRNG)—versus pseudo-random number generators (PRNG)—offering unparalleled protection that eliminates all slugs, peeks, coolers, camerabased, paper, machine manipulation and other scams, while making it impossible to have “missing cards” remain in their machines at the conclusion of a shuffle. Super Shufflers are simple, sleek, low-profile, versatile, easy to operate, ergonomically advanced and competitively priced, and feature fewer than half of the moving parts found in other commercial shufflers. In addition, the company’s patented “No Flash” delivery method on novelty games completely eliminates all hole card plays and once again will allow operators to safely offer certain novelty games that have been all but eradicated by advantage players in several jurisdictions. Prior to Super Shufflers, there were three kinds of shuffling machines: “pseudo rifflers,” continuous shufflers and random-position machines. Shark Trap’s Random Selection Shuffling method rapidly moves each card from random positions in unshuffled decks until shuffles are complete. No final step is required to dispense cards from positions, shelves, slots or compartments into individual hands, and novelty games can be dealt immediately, while shuffling and dealing simultaneously. Orders for delivery of the innovative Super Shufflers by early 2020 will commence at G2E. For more information, visit sharktrap.com.

2019 PROGRESSIVE PRODUCTS

Roulette Progressive TCSJOHNHUXLEY • BOOTH 4439

L

ondon-based TCSJohnHuxley’s latest innovation is a flexible Roulette Progressive. A first-of-its-kind offering, the product offers an optional progressive bet that can be placed on a roulette table for an opportunity to win a combination of bespoke progressive, fixed and/or mystery jackpots. All of these jackpots can be customized to meet the needs and expectations of each operation, focusing on preferred hit frequencies as well as specific jackpots, their seed values and contributions. The product provides follow-up potential to the ongoing success of TCSJohnHuxley’s blackjack and poker progressive offerings. There has never been a successful roulette progressive available that provides high levels of excitement as well as multiple customizable independent progressive jackpots, incorporating both event-based and mystery wins, according to the company. TCSJohnHuxley’s Roulette Progressive allows the player to wager an “in it to win it” progressive wager which, once locked in, gives the player access to a variety of potential incremental individual, community and mystery progressive jackpots as well as fixed payouts. All jackpots are independent, so even if the top prize is won, the other meters are not affected and do not reset. This keeps the excitement building and players at the table for longer. The world launch of the Roulette Progressive recently took place at Tsogo Sun’s flagship operation Montecasino in Johannesburg, South Africa, to much fanfare. ideo King has introduced FreedomPlay, a customizable, wireless bingo flashboard, using state-of-the-art gaming technology. Touted as the next generation of digital flashboards, FreedomPlay is a cost-effective solution to traditional wallboards. Ideal for multimedia presentations and promotions, FreedomPlay includes seven flashboard themes, dynamic imagery, flashing last number called, configurable layouts and other novel features, all designed to captivate the crowd. Easy to install, it includes software and a small device that plugs into each TV. Free from excess wiring, equipment and maintenance costs, it can be displayed as session bingo or Bonanza board, on any make, model, dimension and number of televisions, with an HDMI port, standard for video transmission. “FreedomPlay offers our customers a whole new player experience, giving them the freedom to do what they want,” according to Peggy Hansen, Video King’s regional sales and bingo hall equipment manager. “The graphics, with better-quality animation, are a big portion of its appeal, offering a high-definition view of the board.” Other unique features include spinning bingo cards, last 10 balls called, winner notifications and other fun elements, including “Champ,” the product’s canine mascot, who makes random appearances across the screen. “For more variety, customers also have their choice of the following flashboard themes: Max Contrast, Inverted, Traditional, Classic, 5-Color, Flowers and Shamrocks—so they’re not locked into just one scenario,” she added. In addition, customers can add their own logos and scrolling message to display across the screen, whether promotions, daily specials or other important announcements, which can be edited in real time at the hall level. FreedomPlay installs on all consoles, equipped with Video King’s PowerPlay software, meeting minimal requirements. It can also be hard-wired. Customers will provide their own TVs. The total entertainment package, the FreedomPlay flashboards can also be used for TV programs, by switching the source input on the remote control, and/or for in-hall advertising and other forms of entertainment to generate more revenue for their hall. Super Suppliers Companies helping to manage sports betting operations at casinos are front-and-center at G2E By Dave Bontempo

S

ports betting has been the buzzword at G2E the last several years, and now that it’s fully legal in the U.S., dozens of companies are vying for a piece of the pie. Casinos have a real need for expertise in sportsbook operations, since most of them outside Nevada haven’t had any experience in accepting bets. Global Gaming Expo is the perfect opportunity for sports betting companies to demonstrate their products and services to potential clients, and the G2E conference program will focus on many cuttingedge ideas and innovative developments. But the leading sports betting suppliers have already gotten a jump on the game, and can provide understanding of the market as it grows and develops.

In-Game Action IGT has the back-end technology that processes bets and connects all the information on the betting channels (over-the-counter, mobile, kiosks, etc.). The company has joined forces with outfits like DraftKings and FanDuel, which have customer-facing services like odds-making.

One of IGT’s contributions to this space is the Miosk, technology powering mobile kiosks that states are likely to adopt. Just as individual televisions help customers follow their favorite tracks at a book, Miosk will let them bet right at their seats. It provides the technology of sports betting inside a device like an Android or tablet. Miosk can be installed on the edges of an armchair, for instance. IGT mobile-kiosk technology enables cash betting on personal mobile devices within casino sportsbooks. Casinos can maximize their sports betting revenues without big investments in self-service terminals. Miosk uses sports betting vouchers with the same or higher level of security, auditability and control as TITO does for slots and single-transaction bet slips do for self-service and OTC sports betting. Miosk was slated for a field trial early in July in Mississippi with widespread deployment before the football season. IGT officials believe it can address an overlooked aspect of the wagering menu. “In-play betting is significant, but not nearly as big as it should be,” says IGT Vice President of Sports Betting Charles Cohen. “It takes too long to place a bet, even if you have a self-service kiosk, because you still have to get up and go to the machine. There are a lot of forecasts out there about how big the sports-betting impact will be. I’m not a forecaster, but every prediction I see has a lot of zeroes.” IGT continues its role as a prominent early force in the post-PASPA world. The company forged tech agreements not only with FanDuel and Draft Kings but other brands, including MGM and Boyd. It powered the first lottery to add sports betting in Rhode Island, has gained deployment in six regulated states, and thrived with its PlayDigital omni-channel PlayShot sports betting platform, a market-ready solution for operators looking to enter the U.S. sports betting market. The “50-state solution” emerged in 2018 as the leading B2B sports betting platform, and is leveraged by commercial, tribal, lottery and racetrack operators.

Cintas: For Uniforms They’ll Love to Wear At the Cintas Fashion Show at G2E, learn to dress the rank-and-file in style

M

erriam-Webster defines uniforms as conformist clothing that presents “an unvaried appearance of surface, pattern, or color.” In other words, dullsville. Right? Wrong. Research shows that the uniforms of many professions—health care, the military, law enforcement, and of course, hospitality—promote unity, create a level playing ground, and reflect career accomplishment. Perhaps more importantly, well-crafted, comfortable uniforms make employees look and feel good, so they represent the corporate brand with style and distinction. At G2E this year, don’t miss the Cintas Design Collective fashion show, Wednesday, October 16 from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Special Events Stage. This exciting runway show proves that workplace uniforms can be both fashionable and easy to wear, with the kind of just-pressed crispness that always makes your team members look sharp. Cintas uniforms are designed to be both “fashion-forward and sustainable,” says Design Manager Joanna Cordero. “What good is some gem of a dress if you can’t wash it? We engineer features into the garments so they’re sustainable, but with luxury and luster in the trims and details.” The high-performance garments are made to complement all body sizes and types; as Cordero points out, the runway models at G2E will represent a range of shapes. Resort themes can be suggested subtly, she says: “If you’re looking for a Western look, you don’t have to go full-blown John Wayne; we can offer a modernized version, with the Americana in the details. Using those kinds of low-key elements can also extend the longevity of the look.”

72

G2E PREVIEW 2019

Form, function and style work together in uniforms for the gaming industry by the Cintas Design Collective

When working with a casino resort or hotel, Cintas’ design consultants present several options in keeping with the operator’s goals and budget. These experts also go to the front lines—talking with the employees themselves—to find out what they want in terms of workplace apparel. Sometimes, Cordero says, a department head may be looking for a “GQ look” for male employees that the men on the floor do not find comfortable or practical—“They just don’t think they’re ‘that guy.’” In such cases, “We try to find a happy medium, maybe something not so slick. Believe me, if you don’t listen to the employees, you’ll get feedback. You’re going to hear the likes and dislikes.” All uniforms are part of a larger story, the story of the property, the brand, and the entertainment experience. “At the end of the day, it’s a partnership,” Cordero says. “Our strategy is listening and understanding what our customers want, and helping them tell a cohesive story with flair.”

he GGB Gaming & Technology Awards are the casino industry’s most prestigious awards for technology, products and services that enhance the gaming experience. Winners of the 2019 G&T Awards will be announced in the November 2019 issue of Global Gaming Business magazine, and individual presentations will be made in the winners’ booths at Global Gaming Expo on October 17. AMERICAN NONSMOKERS RIGHTS FOUNDATION Educating the Industry About the Hazards of Secondhand Smoke

R

esponsible gaming… The health and safety of our employees is our No. 1 priority… Providing the most enjoyable entertainment experience for all our customers. These are phrases expressed by some of America’s largest, most successful gaming establishments. But what do they really mean? For many Americans, especially the hospitality gaming workforce, these phrases can ring hollow and insincere in a smoke-filled venue. However, over time, more gaming establishments are living up to these lofty goals—while being wildly successful and 100 percent smoke-free indoors. Sometimes it’s just as simple as adding an outdoor smoking patio off the gaming floor. Today, more than 800 casinos and other U.S. gaming venues are smoke-free. But the casino hospitality workforce still is the most exposed to secondhand smoke compared to any other job sector. It’s a major public health and safety problem for gaming host communities, industry leaders and anyone who has to breathe inside a casino complex. Reliable studies continue to show exposure to secondhand smoke increases the risk of heart disease 25 percent-30 percent. It also increases risk of cancer and stroke 20 percent-30 percent and causes respiratory diseases like COPD, chronic bronchitis and asthma. The science is clear that casino HVAC systems, smoking rooms and smoking sections do not protect people from the health hazards of secondhand smoke. Even low levels of secondhand smoke still pose significant health risks, particularly to the cardiovascular system. More than 87 percent of the U.S. population are nonsmokers, including four out of five casino-goers and the vast majority of millennials. To find out more, talk to an ANR representative during G2E or visit smokefreecasinos.org.

Aruze continues to distinguish itself not only with unique hardware, but non-traditional video slot games. The Dream Cash series is an exciting game that does not contain any spinning reels. Dream Cash Fabulous Vegas and Dream Cash Dancing All Night are based on a pick feature, where the player can select from three volatility models or press the spin button to make a random selection. Aruze will debut a new game series with similar features at G2E 2019. In line with its goal of standing out, the Muso Curve-43 Hybrid Reflection package adds an elegant and exclusive design to the casino floor. The pod design is a combination of the Muso Curve-43 Hybrid and mirrored pod fillers. This product offering creates an upscale premium package, keeping a simplistic appearance with a minimalistic design that makes the Muso Curve-43 Hybrid cabinet the main feature. The Muso Curve43 Hybrid Reflection package is available in three- or four-pod configurations. This year at G2E, Lucky Roulette breaks from its standard eight-station configuration with an unusual layout that allows remote viewing and showcases the product’s full capabilities. The 12-station installation shows the potential of the 50-station capability of this product. At G2E 2019, Aruze will display its continued commitment to providing the best products and configurations to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s casino floor. uetto empowers hospitality revenue professionals to be more efficient and strategic by automating pricing and unlocking critical data insights for more impactful revenue decisions. Specifically, it helps casino revenue teams unlock and action their data, maximize efficiency and productivity and increase their impact on the bottom line. Duetto’s unique combination of hospitality experience and technology leadership drives the company to look for innovative solutions to industry challenges. The SaaS platform allows hotels and casinos to leverage dynamic data sources and actionable insights into pricing and demand across the enterprise. Most recently, Duetto has introduced Duetto Rate Engine to connect its pricing application, GameChanger, to the hotel or casino booking engine, allowing casinos to provide online comp and discounted booking options to its loyalty members. For loyalty members who have earned discounts or comps through their play, the process of redeeming those offers often required phoning a call center to book a stay. On top of that, most guests didn’t even know they qualified for comps or special rates until they received a postcard in the mail. Now, thanks to DRE, once logged in, players are able to see their status-— past and open sports bets, discretionary comps, free buffets, etc. From there, users can choose to book a room. Online redemption allows casinos to: • Introduce more dynamic player reward programs that will increase profitability; • Allow guests to redeem their offer on the same channel they use to book their trip; • Consider the benefits of reduced call center traffic; and, • Prompt guests to enroll in the rewards program. With an online-redemption system, casinos still value guests based on total customer worth and average daily theoretical spend—but now they have the ability to be a lot more dynamic with offers. Instead of offering comped rooms, staff can quote a dynamic rate based on total customer value and the property’s supply/demand dynamics. More than 3,500 hotel and casino properties in more than 60 countries have partnered to use Duetto’s applications, which include GameChanger for pricing, ScoreBoard for intelligent reporting and BlockBuster for contracted-business optimization. MICRO GAMING TECHNOLOGIES Real-Time Promotional Partner M

icro Gaming Technologies Inc. designs and develops software to automate, track and report all casino promotions. The MGT software applications interface bi-directionally in real time with almost every major player tracking system on the market with a touch-screen device. MGT’s software can interface with slot machines, tablets, websites and mobile devices. These devices can become an employee that knows every player in the database, can evaluate the historical gaming activity, and can use the information to determine an appropriate prize based on the patron’s gaming value. The real-time Promotional Intelligence controls the distribution of the promotional budget. The device can then issue prizes by printing a bar-coded voucher or electronically posting the prize to the player’s account. One of MGT’s newer devices added to the hardware catalog is the Card Printing Kiosk. With MGT’s Self-E module, customers can provide patrons a solution to long club lines for enrolling and reprinting loyalty cards. CPK purchases include shipping, one-year parts warranty, installation and a monthly module lease. Customers can print in full color at 300 dpi, from up to four configurable card tiers from the 2,000-card stack. MGT was the first company to introduce the application of a “game” as a method to reveal offers to casino patrons. This method of rewarding players has enhanced the gambling experience, since patrons never feel that they haven’t won something with each trip to the casino. MGT has more than 200 games in its growing catalog, which customers can purchase instantly online with store credits or a monthly game subscription. MGT presently boasts a 25 percent market share in the U.S., with more than 280 installed locations coast to coast; its clients represent more than 40 percent of the U.S. slot count. MGT aspires to four main principles to acquire and maintain customers: reliability, compatibly, flexibility and security. The company provides 24hour support, ensuring a qualified support person always is just a phone call away to assist and troubleshoot. For more information, visit MGTINC.net or call 702-360-8550.

no exceptions. This session offers multiple views on ameliorating this situation in the context of studying and developing public health responses to gambling disorder.

The Responsible Thing The NCRG Conference on Gambling and Addiction will be more important this year By Patrick Roberts

R

esponsible gaming is always the goal of the casino industry. No one wants anyone who is at risk to be hurt by the products and services provided by the casinos. And with the quick legalization of sports betting—particularly the mobile variety—the industry needs to be aware of how this will impact those afflicted with problem gambling issues. That’s why this year’s National Center for Responsible Gaming Conference on Gambling and Addiction—the 20th anniversary of this important gathering—will play a key role in determining how the industry responds to this challenge. The NCRG is one of the most important agencies in gaming. Founded in 1996 by the American Gaming Association, the NCRG’s mission is to help individuals and families affected by gambling disorder by supporting the finest peerreviewed, scientific research into gambling disorder; encouraging the application of new research findings to improve prevention, diagnostic, intervention and treatment strategies; and advancing public education about gambling disorder and responsible gaming. More than $27 million has been committed to the NCRG, through contributions from the casino gaming industry, equipment manufacturers, vendors, Native American casinos, related organizations and individuals. And now it’s time for the companies and organizations affiliated with sports betting to step up to the plate. This year’s NCRG conference contains a wide variety of topics. From an examination of 20 years of gambling research and the concurrent 20th anniversary of the National Gaming Impact Study Commission to an examination of recovery models and various treatments of gambling disorders, the NCRG conference will reveal groundbreaking research and studies. Starting on Sunday, October 13, the NCRG conference includes tracks for clinicians, researchers and public health professionals, as well as for industry professionals and regulators. Several plenary sessions highlight the program, and a special presentation on a new “Gambling Court” in Nevada that intercedes for disordered gamblers who commit crimes to support their habit.
