elcome to the second annual Progressive Products Preview or, as we like to call it, P3. P3 was born last year, when we realized G2E 2020 wouldn’t be held in person, which rendered its predecessor, G2E Preview, impractical for that year. One of the most popular features of G2E Preview was the Progressive Products section, which highlighted all the great new innovations that gaming industry vendors prepared to debut at G2E. And though we knew G2E wouldn’t be held in person in 2020, the developments of those Progressive Products continued—and in some cases, even accelerated. Thus was born P3. This year, with the return of an in-person G2E, we decided to keep the Progressive Products Preview moniker because, well, isn’t that what it’s all about? We saw that the development of these products didn’t just hinge on G2E—they were organic and fundamental to the companies and individuals that imagined them. What is a progressive product? We believe it’s a product that makes our jobs in the gaming industry easier to do, takes a concept to the next level, and brings more profitability to the enterprise. A progressive product often contributes to the customer experience and overcomes natural barriers between the casino and the player, whether in a land-based facility or online. A progressive product is innovative, contemplative and groundbreaking. It stands out in a crowded field of new products. What a progressive product isn’t—at least in this case—is a slot machine or slot game. This isn’t to say all the marvelous games that have been developed for their introduction at G2E aren’t progressive, because they certainly are. But P3 is published right before the October issue of Global Gaming Business, which contains the most popular feature of the entire year for our company, “Global Games.” Our editor, Frank Legato, spends a month during the summer visiting all the major slot manufacturers, and reports back his findings in Global Games. So we focus on nonslot products in P3 and save the best games for the October GGB. When you peruse this year’s batch of progressive products, don’t forget the love and attention 4

that created them. Understand that they’re reaching new heights and trying different things that may not have been attempted before. We salute the companies and individuals who make the effort to bring these products to market, with the belief that their time has come. And of course, with the return of G2E in October this year, we’ll be able to see, feel and touch these products. We’ve been away from each other for so long, it’ll be good to return to somewhat of a normalcy and realize that we’re on the road back. Just looking at the revenue figures for U.S. gaming over the past year shows that customers want to return and are back in force. Now that they’re back, we have to up our game. They expect so much from the gaming experience that we’d better deliver or they’ll find another venue to try. G2E will give us that opportunity to investigate what’s important as the industry ramps back up. Take a look at the education schedule on pages 38 and 39. You’ll see that the American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions have thoughtfully curated a series of seminars and workshops that address many of the issues that have been raised over the past two years. You’ll understand what makes sense and what works when it comes to bringing back that customer and elevating his experience, thereby creating loyalty and excitement. Will this be different from previous G2Es? Undoubtedly. But it may surpass previous G2Es in importance, because of its timing. And while G2E will be back with the safety and health precautions we all understand are necessary during these times, it will still be good to see each other, network and enjoy all that our favorite gathering has to offer. These last two years have been difficult for so many of us. At G2E, let’s take the opportunity to move forward and put it all behind us. Because we deserve it.

Korbi Carrison Event Director, Global Gaming Expo
T
wenty years ago, the first Global Gaming Expo was held only a month after the devastating events of 9/11. The organizers of G2E—the American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions (RX)—decided to hold the show anyway, and it went off without a hitch, reminding members of the gaming industry that life goes on and terrorism never wins. Four years ago, G2E 2017 started just one day after the most deadly shooting in American history, on October 1, just down the street on the Las Vegas Strip. Again, organizers believed it would be better to join together to mourn and discuss the event together, and the result was somewhat cathartic. Last year, the Covid-19 pandemic did what those other two events could not, as the world shut down along with an in-person G2E. This year, with the effects of the pandemic still lingering, the AGA and Reed have decided to move forward with G2E 2021. Event Director Korbi Carrison sat down with GGB to talk about why that decision was made and what it means for the show, the exhibitors and attendees, and the future of the industry.
GGB: Last year G2E was only held virtually. This year, it will be back live, but an element will be virtual. How will that happen? Korbi Carrison: Covid-19 has changed the way
events deliver content and share information. While we’re thrilled to convene with the industry in Las Vegas this year, we wanted to offer virtual elements to accommodate individuals who aren’t able to attend G2E in person. We’ll continue to engage with our virtual audience during education sessions, live-streamed keynotes, virtual networking with attendees and exhibitors and constant connection through G2E Insider Live and other G2E digital content. How will G2E handle a mask mandate if it’s still in place?
The state of the pandemic changes daily. Masks are currently required for all attendees, per Nevada guidance. 6
P3 PROGRESSIVE PRODUCTS PREVIEW 2021
What other health and safety features will be ramped up at G2E this year?
In addition to the current mask requirement, we’re providing sanitizing stations, increased daily hygiene and complying with all guidelines outlined in the Venetian Clean protocols, and more. One of the advantages we have at RX is our ability to learn from our partner trade shows within our global portfolio in addition to G2E, which allows us to implement the most upto-date best practices. Health and safety come first for everything we do. G2E health and safety guidelines continue to evolve according to federal, state and local requirements and are updated regularly to ensure we provide a safe in-person experience. How many exhibitors are you going to have, and how will that compare with the last live show in 2019?
It’s been a really challenging time for our exhibitors to balance their business goals alongside the commitment necessary to participate in an event like G2E. Some exhibitors have opted to take smaller booths than in the past, and we’re really happy that the vast majority are able to join us again, having made the decision that G2E is an important part of their success strategy. We’re forecasting to have over 240 exhibitors. (The list of exhibitors as of late August is available starting on page 44 of P3.) What are some of the networking opportunities for G2E attendees this year?
One of the most memorable parts of G2E is being able to network with other industry professionals. This year, G2E kicks off on Monday, October 4 with G2E Connects, a very different, collaborative session giving attendees the opportunity to participate and learn from each other by interacting through facilitated discussions about what’s most relevant in their professional development right now. G2E Connects topics will include promoting inclusivity in the workforce, building careers through mentorship and adapting to customers’
changing needs. Additionally, we’re bringing back the roundtable discussions that were very well-received in 2019. Conferees gather and select from a variety of micro-topics within the themes of our education program. It’s an opportunity to dig deeper and cultivate relationships with your peers and counterparts. How is the show handling keynote events in 2021?
As we convene for the first time since the pandemic, hearing insights from industry leaders will be critical as we move forward. Anyone who attends G2E will have access to our keynotes, and they will be live-streamed to our virtual platform for those joining virtually. We’re excited to announce our keynote speakers shortly. Indian gaming is always a big part of the G2E conference program. What are you doing to ensure that tribal government gaming remains a big part of the show?
In the 30 years since the passage of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, tribal gaming has become an integral part of the gaming ecosystem, growing from small bingo halls to global event centers with thousands of slot machines, table games and hotel rooms. It’s been exciting to witness how the tribes have expanded their success in gaming into other business opportunities, and there’s even more to discuss with the tribal entry into the Las Vegas gaming market.

“After two long years away from their customers, our exhibitors are thrilled to finally be able to showcase their latest products and innovations designed to provide the world-class gaming experience the industry is known for. For many, the expo hall is the most highly anticipated part of the G2E experience.” After two long years away from their customers, our exhibitors are thrilled to finally be able to showcase their latest products and innovations designed to provide the world-class gaming experience the industry is known for. For many, the expo hall is the most highly anticipated part of the G2E experience. There’s nothing like the serendipity one can experience while exploring at G2E. So yes, this definitely works.
Once again this year, we plan on highlighting that growth by making tribal gaming a prominent feature throughout the show. There will also be opportunities for attendees to connect, network and learn from the most influential tribal gaming leaders in the business. Tell us about the interactive tools that G2E is offering to assist both exhibitors and attendees to get the most out of the show as they can.
Traditional content- and information-sharing has changed since the pandemic began. At G2E, we want to provide a seamless experience for attendees and customers by leveraging our technology offerings and digital platforms to provide a positive and interactive customer experience. The G2E mobile app is the most comprehensive resource that all G2E community members can interact with leading up to and at the event. Much like casino operators offering a seamless user experience for their patrons, we want to leverage that same experience at G2E. The app offers: Personalized Recommendations. Large events like
G2E can feel like a well of limitless opportunities. That’s why we deliver a personalized list of exhibitors, products, and education session recommendations directly to the attendee. Our goal is to empower attendees to customize and control their schedules, so they can get the most out of their show experience. Direct Messaging. Through the app’s messaging platform, attendees will reach out directly to ex-
hibitors and fellow attendees to set up appointments and start conversations. Geolocation. Once Bluetooth is enabled within the mobile app, attendees can look up booth-tobooth directions, search for specific exhibitors and log in to create a list of favorites, allowing them to navigate the show floor more efficiently and successfully. Ask G2E. The Ask G2E in-app feature saves trips to the info booth by offering attendees the ability to text G2E for real-time answers directly. Hot Hits. G2E Hot Hits is a real-time ranking of exhibitors showcasing new products and services at G2E. Attendees can scan the unique QR code that each exhibitor has on display in their booth, automatically counting as a vote. The Hot Hits Leaderboards in the app and in the expo hall will update in real time to show attendees’ favorite exhibitors. The expo floor is home to many different areas devoted to special disciplines, like table games, iGaming, security and surveillance and more. Does this work for both exhibitors and attendees?
With such a dynamic plan for this year’s G2E, what does it say about the growth and health of the casino industry and its largest trade show and conference?
In the face of every challenge, gaming has risen to the occasion and come out stronger on the other side. Our recovery thus far is the direct result of gaming’s resilience, innovation, and ability to provide world-class entertainment for our customers. Gaming is a dynamic industry—and this year’s show reflects that dynamic, resilient spirit. Why is it so important that the industry get back together as the pandemic winds down?
It’s been two years since we’ve reconvened in Las Vegas—and a lot has happened since then. There’s no doubt 2020 was the most challenging year in our industry’s history—and each of us learned important lessons during that time. Reconvening is important so gaming professionals can share their unique experiences, insight and wisdom with each other as we move forward on the road to recovery. We’ve adapted and learned, and will continue to do business in a virtual setting. But there’s no substitute for gathering together to personally connect and do business. 2021 PROGRESSIVE PRODUCTS PREVIEW P3

Building New Economic Pipelines Progressive companies have progressive ideas, regardless of the gaming climate. These firms have positioned themselves for post-pandemic success, filling current needs while forecasting future trends. By Dave Bontempo
I
n the gaming industry, mastering a specific need and building on it can be the recipe for broad-based success. A social casino is the recruiting ground for future business. It familiarizes people with the games, rules and betting probabilities. Winning at these games gives players bragging rights on social media. Ideally, the social experience drives customers to real-money games. Social is emotional, and vendors who cater to it can create an economic pipeline. Acquiring a company with a turnkey operation is another way to grow. If you can’t beat it, buy it. And industry advancements, like same-game parlays in the sportsbetting arena, are paramount for companies seeking new revenues. For example, industry estimates put in-game betting at a 400 percent increase over last year. Here’s a closer look at companies not only keeping up with the trends, but creating them.
Socially Advanced BetConstruct was on a roll with varied product offerings in 2021, especially in the sports-betting realm. It has struck gold again with its Social Sportsbook, set to be deployed in emerging legal sports betting markets. A complementary amenity for sports bars and restaurants, Social Sportsbook educates players and harvests key marketing data as users compete and interact. The multi-platform solution, available on iOS, Android, Facebook and the web, has loyalty marketing tools including coupons, discounts and promotions. It will also drive traffic to brick-and-mortar venues, company officials say. Social Sportsbook has powerful back-office tools, such as player, content, bonus and game play management, monetization tools and analytics. For operators, perhaps the most important tool is its ability to extract key demographic and psychographic information. This data gives operators a competitive advantage when legal online and brick-and-mortar gaming are established in their respective jurisdictions. BetConstruct has developed solutions both timely and relevant to the needs of the North American marketplace, and continues to thrive in all facets of the sports-betting world.

Its iGaming platform features different betting types (single, multiple, system, chain), plus tax and express bonus calculation. Its sportsbook solution provides head-to-head stats for more than 20,000 matches each month in over 2,400 tournaments. The company gives operators maximum autonomy, enabling them to not only choose any event they wish to offer (live and pre-match), but also set more competitive odds on single matches, markets, sports or countries by employing an advanced margin-control functionality. Among BetConstruct’s sportsbook features: • 120-plus sports including virtuals and esports • U.K. horse racing • Advanced betting tools such as EditBet, BetCloud, SuperBet, Counter Offer and BetBuilder A pioneer in the iGaming industry since 2003, BetConstruct continues to leverage player insights and technology trends to push the limits of gaming. With 300 customers across 50 markets, the company leads the category by delivering control to operators while providing the most extensive gaming and betting portfolio to players, company officials assert. BetConstruct got 2021 off to a roaring start with the integration of Pinnacle Solution’s sports-betting offer onto its platform and its further

supply to operators. The company stakes its claim to open its platform to third-party sportsbooks. The partner-oriented approach led to what BetConstruct considers a landmark deal, embracing one of the company’s key partners, VBET. Company officials say VBET will utilize the iFrame solution, giving its end users across a number of territories access to a market-leading array of betting content, including an award-winning esports betting product. That product, catered for Pinnacle Solution, comes with expert risk management and is available under its iFrame API solution alongside BetContsruct’s betting offer. “This partnership with BetConstruct, covering both its B2B and B2C arms, showcases the flexibility of our Pinnacle Solution sportsbook offering and ability to service client needs, whatever they may be,” says Pinnacle CEO Paris Smith. “Having seen encouraging early results, we’re confident that this partnership will continue to be a successful one, with BetConstruct proven to deliver results across its own brands as well as for its B2B partners, who can now supply their customers with our market-leading sports betting content.” Bonus types include free bets, accumulator bonuses, wagering bonuses and profit boosts. The company will display its award-winning online technology at G2E 2021.
Setting New Standards GAN has bolstered its position in the sports-betting space in 2021. The year started impressively when the company completed the $176 million acquisition of Coolbet. The integration process incorporates Coolbet’s proprietary sports betting technology into GAN’s current B2B technology stack. Subsequent highlights include launching one-third of Michigan partners— Churchill Downs, Wynn and FanDuel—on Day 1. GAN enjoyed a successful multi-state transition into its gaming platform for Churchill Downs and incorporated Twin Spires-branded sports betting and iGaming operations in Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee and Pennsylvania. Its proprietary sports-betting platform, GAN Sports, creates a seamless plug-and-play experience for partners to launch their desired sportsbook. Whether customers engage via retail, online or both, GAN has the experience to enhance an operator’s betting platform, say officials. The GAN service model includes configuring an operator’s product, odds, line and marketing activities, enabling them to achieve their strategic and commercial goals.

GAN’s platform allows its partners to choose if they’d like to manage risk on some or all sports, or enable a team of more than 60 traders to do so on their behalf. The company’s platform also allows for localized pricing, giving its casino partners or trading team the ability to manage risk at the property level. This means each property can control its pricing parameters, down to the event level. As the patent owner and market leader in this space, the company provides its partners a Day 1 fully integrated player account management solution, along with loyalty integration at both the retail and mobile/online levels. Fully scalable to meet each property’s unique needs, GAN’s kiosk-first approach allows its partners to launch and operate a sportsbook onsite, without the need for additional staff. Its highly configurable platform allows partners to make on-the-fly changes to provide product differentiation and meet constantly changing player, market and regulatory demands. The company is not limited by the restraints of legacy systems, which often inhibit the ambitions of brands when utilizing other sports betting suppliers. Earlier this year, Arthur Barker, managing director of acquisitions for GAN, shared a market overview. “As an early entrant into the U.S. gaming market, GAN has seen firsthand the industry’s growth in regulated U.S. states,” he said. “A landmark moment of particular note was the parallel launch of three different brands in Michigan on the GAN platform. The regulatory framework that enabled pre-registration of and depositing into customer accounts generated a particularly steep growth curve and associated sports handle.” The company will showcase its retail sports offering at G2E. As a greenfield project, the GAN Sports team of industry experts has created a compelling retail product, uninhibited

by many of the legacy system issues faced by other offerings. Barker believes it will reset the market for sports-betting kiosk solutions and offer a depth of functionality currently unavailable in the market. Besides the patented loyalty integration, the GAN Sports kiosk solution will offer far more personalized user content and recommendations, UX configurations and various omnichannel synergies, giving operators the flexibility they need to optimize sports betting revenues.
‘Odds On Demand’ Enabling bettors to control and drive their own sports betting experience is a growing trend in the U.S. sportsbook, and flexibility is a key part of the equation. In 2020, approximately 50 percent of sports betting revenue in New Jersey derived from parlay betting alone, and New Jersey routinely flirts with $1 billion in mobile totals every month of NFL season. Premium B2B sportsbook supplier Kambi wasted no time in the wake of repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, opening a U.S. office to help service the stateside market. The company realized that any innovation that speeds play or enhances the betting menu finds an enthusiastic clientele. The latest enhancement in Kambi’s football product, known as Game Parlays, gives players an unmatched level of control over their sports betting experience. It empowers them to combine multiple main and player prop bets within the same game—and for the first time, across different games. The feature also allows Kambi’s partners to rebrand Game Parlays under a different name, tailoring the product to best fit their individual strategies. Previously, Kambi’s football offering allowed players to create their own bets within main markets such as over/under and spread in a single game or across multiple games. Game Parlays enables Kambi’s partners to offer their customers a market-leading number of betting options by expanding the multi-event functionality to include player props—such as touchdown scorer and rushing yards—as well as a wide range of derivative markets. What separates this level of “combinability” from other parlay products is the capability to fit seamlessly within the existing sportsbook, giving the bettor ultimate control and making NFL Sundays much more interesting, Kambi officials say. Other game parlay products in the market are stand-alones, which sit outside the normal sportsbook offering. This adds significant friction to the user experience and produces pain points in the sportsbook interface, which Kambi’s solution sidesteps, its analysts say. Kambi has a long track record of developing forward-looking products to meet the growing appetite for “odds on demand.” The launch of Game Parlays builds on the company’s Parlay Builder, launched in 2019. A later iteration saw Kambi become the first B2B supplier to enable players to

combine multiple selections and in-event combinations across several sports and events into one bet. Kambi’s extensive development work and innovations give players increased flexibility by breaking down the barriers that exist in combining bets across events. The company says it helps operators obtain a higher margin for return and benefit from Kambi’s deep strength of product and expertise in both proprietary pricing and risk management. Kambi also made news late in the second quarter of 2021. That’s when it signed an agreement to provide its premium technology and services to a newly developed sports betting brand in Latin America, backed by an experienced private equity firm. The multi-year partnership will see Kambi support the launch of Olimpo.bet, an online sportsbook owned by NG Gaming, which is a recent addition to one of the leading corporate groups in Latin America. The Olimpo.bet brand aims to initially target Peru, due to the growing market there, and will further strengthen Kambi’s position in a region where it already has an established presence (in Colombia and Argentina). “This is an important strategic partnership for Kambi as we continue to expand our footprint in Latin America’s growing sports betting market,” according to Kristian Nylén, CEO and co-founder. “The ambition shown by NG Gaming to be among the leaders in sports betting matches our own, and we’re excited at the prospect of Olimpo.bet going live in time for the Copa América.” An NG Gaming spokesperson added, “We are delighted to partner with Kambi to launch our new disruptive brand. It quickly became clear Kambi was the only partner we could trust to support us with our ambitious time-to-market strategy and future expansion across the South American continent. Kambi’s flexible technology alongside its proven risk management and price differentiation capabilities will give Olimpo.bet a platform on which to outcompete the market.” Major market innovations like the expansion of sports wagering arrive perhaps once a generation. And the gaming world feels the electricity.
To be a leader in your field takes experience, expertise and a desire to go the whole nine yards. There are no shortcuts. Kambi’s passion and heritage in sports betting means we know what it takes to succeed, and we know what it takes to ensure you become the best sportsbook you can be. kambi.com Meet Kambi at G2E Visit www.kambi.com/g2e-1

onus Spin Xtreme, the award-winning new progressive side bet system from AGS, is designed to generate excitement, player engagement, and incremental revenue. With its groundbreaking proprietary technology, Bonus Spin Xtreme enables casino operators to link all table games on the casino floor to the same jackpot pool, requiring only one seed amount and providing faster-incrementing and larger jackpot awards. Bonus Spin Xtreme is also the perfect solution for community-style table games. Its unique wheel design allows for one unique progressive jackpot winner on community games such as roulette, baccarat, craps, sic bo, and poker cash games. Three jackpot levels, including AGS’ popular must-hit-by progressive, accelerate player engagement. Anticipation builds as the jackpot gets closer to hitting. When the wheels
spin, every participating player wins a prize, creating excitement among everyone at the game. Each table game features a unique community-based triggering event, which initiates the spin of three eye-catching concentric wheels. Foundation Acres Manufacturing Company
A
cres Manufacturing Company’s Foundation casino management system delivers instantaneous, realtime data from every player interaction on a casino floor. Real-time data that the operator owns and controls is something current casino management systems can’t even dream of. Foundation reports any SAS meter change in real time, giving casinos over 1,000 times more data than has ever been collected before. These metrics will reveal what really influences spend and loyalty decisions. Foundation can change the credit meter on any game through the AFT transaction function in the SAS protocol, permitting real-time bonusing. A real-time transaction engine called “The Blender” contains real-time events from every machine in the casino and can also process events from multiple external data sources. Specific events such as a football, baseball or basketball game, or the weather report, can trigger a bonus to a player in real time with the ability to the change the credit meter on any slot machine at any moment—bonusing players based on their real-time play and a real-time event. Foundation is the quickest and easiest path to cashless gaming for vir-

tually any casino. Foundation enables players to intuitively fund slots and tables via their mobile devices. Casinos can easily interface non-gaming payment terminals, allowing a single-wallet solution across the entire operation. Layered with real-time data and bonusing capability, Foundation causes the mobile device to become an integral component of the player experience. Foundation enables a massive capability upgrade, allowing casinos to authorize any application, from any vendor, without the risk or inconvenience of losing existing functionality. Foundation is easy to install in about two minutes per game, and connects directly to the slot machine while able to reproduce SAS port access for the legacy system. This means all data still flows into the legacy system environment, which retains all abilities, including implementation of points, bonuses, etc. Foundation is designed to reinvigorate a gaming industry currently incapable of meeting modern consumer demands. This premium cabinet takes Ainsworth’s game play to the next level with a 4K 55-inch floating infinity monitor, dynamic LED lighting and state-of-the-art LCD button deck. It will be front and center at Ainsworth’s Global Gaming Expo display in October. The A-STAR Curve XL features the largest screen in the company’s history, and a 27-inch LCD topper. It’s the perfect package for a series of high denom linked progressive titles Ainsworth has built specifically for the cabinet. Casino operators will appreciate the ease and simplicity of these premium cabinets. The hardware includes a front-facing lock and horizontal door for easy maintenance. Despite its large screen, the A-STAR Curve XL fits on a standard base at 26
inches wide and 27 inches deep. The cabinet will debut in fall 2021 in several key slot markets, including California, Nevada and Oklahoma. The hardware has been approved by a thirdparty testing facility. Additional markets will be added later in the year. The A-STAR Curve XL launches with a linked progressive game series called Take It or Leave It. This two-game family—Super Hot 7s Classic and Solid Gold 8s Classic—has been built to appeal to traditional slot players. Each title is a three-reel multi-denomination package. Ainsworth recommends setting up games as $1/$5/$10 in a nine-line configuration with bet multipliers of 1-3-5. Other variations are also available. Take It or Leave It is highlighted by a massive wheel, huge potential for wins, and a progressive jackpot that starts at $50,000 at the $1 denomination. Other games in the A-STAR Curve XL roadmap will also be showcased at G2E. For more information, visit agtslots.com.
ONE LINK Table Bonusing Aristocrat Gaming • Booth 1133

hat if the fun and excitement of slot bonusing were available for table games? And what if it could be done in a cashless way? Aristocrat Gaming’s new Table Bonusing powered by ONE LINK has made those what-ifs a reality and created a new table experience with bonusing and cashless. Slot history has proven successful bonusing drives additional time on device, increasing revenue and casino profitability. Now Table Bonusing powered by ONE LINK brings that potential to tables by giving operators the ability to create site and/or multi-site specific bonuses, bringing increased excitement to table games. Table Bonusing powered by ONE LINK enables operators using Aristocrat’s Oasis 360 system to offer table game players the possibility of winning multi-level progressive jackpots. Operators can set the jackpots to hit by a certain value and can issue promotional play, points, comps or offers as a reward. A must-hit-by mystery bonus allows for multi-level progressive bonuses with a range of progressive value options. ONE LINK’s flexible configuration means operators can offer the bonus by game type and by pit. For example, operators could configure all tables to be in the bonus or only blackjack tables, just Pit 1, all blackjack tables in Pit 1, or any number of options.
Payouts to players can be in a range of forms, including voucher, VIVO ticket, cash, promotional credits, points, comps, or offers. ONE LINK can also manage overhead signage for proximity announcements and win celebrations across the property. Additionally, Aristocrat’s cashless wagering digital wallet technology allows a player to use a third-party funding source to draw down additional funds. This functionality allows guests to place cash on account at the cashier cage, then use their player loyalty card to instantly access those funds on the casino floor. The digital wallet eliminates the need to handle cash at slot machines or redeem tickets. Bonus payouts can be credited directly to the digital wallet. asinoSoft’s Taxforms is an iOS-driven application that allows casino floor staff to capture and process patrons’ data, scan, upload photo IDs, do SDN/OFAC checks, obtain electronic signatures and produce a W-2G for jackpots on the spot. Starling Customer Data Platform Cendyn
E
ach hotel has its own unique needs around customer data. A hotel uses various technologies for marketing, operations, revenue, sales and guest experience depending on its location, market segment, brand affiliation and target guest. These tools tend to create silos, restricting data flow, and making it difficult to build the modern experiences that today’s guests expect. As privacy and control over data become the norm, hotels that use the right tools to gather, manage and maximize their data will have a massive advantage, providing a better experience and building trust for every guest. That’s where a customer data platform (CDP) comes in: it wrangles complexity and unlocks value in data across an entire enterprise. But what exactly is a customer data platform? The best answer is in Starling, Cendyn’s next-generation customer data platform for hospitality. Starling unites, transforms, cleanses and enriches millions of data points from all a customer’s technology solutions, creating the ability to take control of your data and keep guests at the heart of what you do.
With third-party cookies going away, Starling CDP gives users the ability to take control of their first-party data, stay front of mind with guests and foster meaningful relationships with new guests. For the first time, a customer’s technology stack will align teams across sales, marketing and revenue so the operator can drive the metrics that matter. Starling eliminates the need for customized data solutions or APIs that require specialization, capital and time. You’ll be able to move faster, adapting to changing customer behavior and emerging technologies quickly without massive capital outlays. Users can gain a deep understanding of who their customers are and their interests with comprehensive, actionable profiles that update in real time with data from all customer touchpoints and tech systems that can instantly be activated across channels. This single-view profile can be used to deliver timely, personalized experiences throughout the guest journey, drive revenue and give a complete view of each guest. By bringing this data together from various sources, Starling offers a single database that allows for easy access no matter the technology solutions you’re working with. Echelon Collection Ex-Cell Kaiser

x-Cell Kaiser’s Echelon Collection of trash receptacles brings decades of industry experience together with a refreshing, unique design that can accommodate virtually any public space environment. The Echelon Collection provides an entire family of products that can be used across all areas of any facility, with capacities ranging from 32 gallons to 75 gallons. Featuring stainless steel construction accented by black trim and silkscreened aluminum graphic plates, Echelon units enable casinos to maintain the integrity of their décor facility-wide. When the first Echelon units were introduced in 2015, they were so well received by the marketplace Ex-Cell Kaiser decided to expand the product line. After the Slim version was introduced to provide a smaller capacity option, the Half Hex (HHX) was introduced as an alternative to the traditional “half-round” design. For decades, Ex-Cell’s customers utilized the half round design for a receptacle that was flush to walls, unobtrusive and visually appealing. The
HHX model takes these principals and combines them with a clean, contemporary design. Designed in collaboration with professional industrial designers, the Echelon Half Hex adds visual interest to a space with its angular and sleek design. The patented design is available in one- and two-stream configurations (32 gallon capacity), and features a stainless steel body with black anodized aluminum trim. A locking side door provides full, secure access to the liners within the unit for quick and easy serviceability. An ash cup is available, as an option, to serve the casino market. “One of the dictionary definitions of an Echelon is ‘a level of worthiness, achievement, or reputation.’ This is the very embodiment of our Echelon and Ex-Cell Kaiser itself,” says Anna Cosentino, vice president of sales and marketing at Ex-Cell Kaiser. “Ex-Cell has become synonymous with quality, and the Echelon Collection is no exception. We are providing the marketplace with a comprehensive family of products that will serve the varying needs across any facility while maintaining design integrity.” For more information, visit ex-cell.com.

ICB ASAP JCM Global • Booth 4039
J
CM Global’s new ICB ASAP is the biggest technological advancement to come to the count room since JCM first introduced its ICB Intelligent Cash Box system more than a decade ago. ICB ASAP is an acronym for Intelligent Cash Box with Automated Secure Asset Processing. It automates the count room, enhances productivity, reduces human contact, boosts security, improves throughput, and increases reliability. ICB ASAP is a network of four industrial-grade robots and industrystandard automation equipment that operates in one secure automation unit that meets all robotic safety requirements. The robotic technology manages the unlocking, opening, bank note/TITO ticket removal, closing, and locking of all cash boxes. This allows your existing count team to multitask and increase the number of items processed per hour and to increase the overall efficiency of the count process and reduce the total processing hours. ICB ASAP makes it easy for security to monitor the bank note/TITO ticket removal process via a real-time or archived video feed while tracking the time and date stamps of when each asset is processed. It can accommodate jurisdictions with two locks and different types of keys, and the cash box key is secured to the first robot during operation and returned to an
operator at the end of the shift to be accounted for and secured. ICB ASAP accommodates JCM’s UBA and iVIZION cash boxes and processes up to 240 cash boxes per hour. This means ICB ASAP processes up to 4,000 bank notes/TITO tickets per minute, almost twice as fast as the highest-speed count/sort machines, meaning count/sort processes can be accomplished significantly faster. Conveyor preloading ability means there is never down time during the normal count process. For more information, visit jcmglobal.com.

nabling bettors to control and drive their own sports betting experiences has become a growing trend in the U.S. sportsbook market. Combinability in particular is an increasingly integral part of the customer experience, with approximately 50 percent of sports betting revenue in New Jersey last year derived from parlay betting alone. The latest enhancement to Kambi’s football product, known as Game Parlays, gives players an unmatched level of control over their sports betting experience, empowering them to combine multiple main and player prop bets within the same game or, for the first time, across different games. The feature also allows Kambi’s partners to rebrand “Game Parlays” under a different name, tailoring the product to best fit their individual strategies. Previously, Kambi’s football offering allowed players to create their own bets within main markets such as over/under and spread in a single
26

game or across multiple games. Game Parlays now enables Kambi’s partners to offer their customers a market-leading number of betting options by expanding the multi-event functionality to include player props, such as touchdown scorer and rushing yards, as well as a wide range of derivative markets. What separates this level of combinability from other parlay products is the capability to fit seamlessly within the existing sportsbook, giving the sports bettor ultimate control and making NFL Sundays much more interesting. This is one of the main limitations of other game parlay products in the market, which are very much stand-alone products that sit outside of the normal sportsbook offering, adding significant friction to the user experience and producing pain points in the sportsbook interface which Kambi’s solution sidesteps. oney Klip makes cashless transactions convenient and fast, so players enjoy more fun and less friction when visiting their favorite casino. First launched to market eight years ago, Konami Gaming, Inc.’s Money Klip continues to add leading features, including cashless table games wagering and TITO redemption support for table games. Konami’s award-winning “Synkros is the only casino management system with a built-in cashless solution, making transactions highly robust and rapidly reflected for guests and administrators,” says a company official. With Money Klip, players simply load funds to their loyalty account at the cage or TITO kiosk, for easy, fast and secure digital transactions directly at the gaming machine. They can even spend their digital funds at non-gaming outlets like property restaurants and bars through interfaced point-of-sale systems. These cashless features provide players a seamless way to play, without handling physical cash. Konami’s latest Money Klip enhancements extend cashless features to casino table games. Carded players can perform a buy-in or a walk-with at table games using their cashless wagering player loyalty account, thus keeping chips at the table. With Synkros Money Klip, players also can take their TITO ticket from the slot machine directly over to play at the tables, without redeeming the voucher for cash. And Synkros supports issuance of table games TITO, which helps casinos improve outstanding chip liability and reporting accuracy. Money Klip has also expanded to Konami’s award-winning SynkConnect
player mobile app. Beyond traditional player loyalty cards, Konami’s SynkConnect enables players to view the funds they have in their Money Klip cashless wagering account via their cellphone. Moreover, they can pair the SynkConnect mobile application to the EGM either with NFC or by scanning a code on the player tracking display. This enables them to “card in” with their mobile application and download any of the cashless wagering funds directly to the slot machine via the mobile application, as a contactless option. Money Klip is actively in use across multiple commercial and tribal jurisdictions. Konami’s cashless technology has demonstrated success in the field and continues to empower players and properties with better options and outcomes. For more information, visit konamigaming.com.
Anomalies 3.0 ReelMetrics
S
ince 2015, the ReelMetrics platform has leveraged the world’s largest collection of slot design, configuration and performance data to help operators super-charge their slot floors. Central to this is Anomalies—an AI-fueled recommendation app focused on the critical topic of config optimization. The concept is simple and elegant: ReelMetrics algorithms scan inventory for games that are underperforming their pan-industrial averages. They then compare casino configs (RTPs, line counts, denoms, locations, and more) to those proven to produce the highest revenue yields industrially. From there, config differences are grouped and highlighted within a user-friendly UI, complete with weighted forecasts of the revenue improvements you’re likely to capture post-modification. Since the application’s debut, Anomalies—currently in its third generation—has remained the platform’s most popular. According to ReelMetrics,
28

this stems from two things—functional simplicity and financial impact. “As opposed to cabinet replacements or game conversions, config tweaks are a breeze to implement and don’t require incremental capital or operational expenditures,” explains Don Retzlaff, who heads customer success management at ReelMetrics. “It’s by no means unusual to see the revenue gains from a single reconfigured asset exceed an operation’s total annual subscription fees for ReelMetrics. It’s no-nonsense functionality that delivers no-nonsense returns. Slot teams love it.” Anomalies 3.0 (along with the balance of the ReelMetrics platform) will be featured in private demos at this year’s G2E Las Vegas. To request an appointment, contact ReelMetrics at sales@reelmetrics.com.

Epic Edge TransAct Technologies • Booth 2423
T
he Epic Edge is the only ticket-in/ticket-out printer on the market with a 300 dpi resolution. How does this benefit you as a casino operator? The math explains it all. All other ticket printers provide a 203 dpi, which equals 41,209 dots of information per square inch. The Epic Edge provides 90,000 dots of information per square inch. This unmatched print resolution not only provides stunning graphics and eye-catching tickets but also allows bill validators to read tickets more readily and reliably. By printing high-quality razor-sharp barcodes, the Edge increases ticket acceptance rates and optimizes casino performance as it enables slot and table operations to run at peak efficiency. This feature works well in conjunction with TransAct’s Epicentral promotional bonusing software system. The high-quality resolution makes cleaner coupons that allow casinos to customize graphics and text more easily. In turn, they can output an unlimited amount of promotional coupons that keep players coming back. The Epic Edge is aptly designed with both USB and serial interfaces that are built into one single board. Having dual interfaces means that there is no need to buy USB-only or serial-only printers. This ensures casino operators reduce costs by only inventorying a single printer, for any game. With less inventory, slot technicians do not have to buy extra spares or spend unnecessary time on logistics. Designed with the latest technology, the printer’s firmware is updated via a full-speed USB 2.0 connection or directly via a micro SD card, making the process faster and easier than ever. The Epic Edge also comes with Quick Disconnect Technology, allowing it to be easily removed and installed in the slot machine without powering down the game or fumbling around the back of the cabinet to find cables. C Online AML Training Vector Solutions • Booth 1535
A
ll casinos have a duty to maintain compliance with the Title 31 regulations as it is required by FinCEN and the IRS. This commitment starts with prioritizing compliance among the property’s objectives, policies and procedures, and should be implemented through employee training, AML program monitoring and enforcement. AML training programs are not a “one size fits all.” Building a strong and robust training program should consider the size of the property, the roles and responsibilities of each employee and the method of communication for the required training. The assigned training courses should be completed on a recurring basis to ensure employees are understanding compliance fundamentals and any changes to the gaming laws and regulations to maintain compliance on property. Self-reporting demonstrates to FinCEN that the property is committed to building a culture of compliance as reporting of completed training is required for all employees. Manual reporting can take a multi-person team to keep track and depends on the coordination and cooperation between various departments within the property. Vector Solutions for Casinos has an online solution. Since the gaming industry is unique and requires very specific course content, Vector designed its training to range from required compliance content to professional roadmaps for front-line to executive team members. Vector’s course catalog includes a Title 31 Suite for employee training. The Title 31 Suite training courses are regularly updated to comply with federal training requirements. Vector Solutions’ learning management system, Vector LMS, is the most user-friendly platform on the market, and allows for automated course completion tracking. Vector serves over 300 casinos nationwide, including operators such as Boyd Gaming, Jack Entertainment, Choctaw Nation Casinos, Twin River Holdings, Four Winds, Poarch Creek Indians, Desert Diamond, Spokane Casino, Delaware North and Foxwoods Resort Casino. Q&A Leading the Way 2021 G2E AGEM
AGEM helped the industry recover from the pandemic, and now looks toward the future
F
or the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM), the pandemic hit hard. Casinos around the world closed during the lockdown, and no operator was thinking about buying the equipment or services provided by AGEM members. While AGEM canceled dues payments for a year, it still provided members with the information they needed to prepare for reopening. Dave Lucchese, the executive vice president of sales, marketing and digital for Everi, became president of AGEM just as the pandemic was winding down, and says the challenges remain. He spoke about the difficult times and the bright future he foresees for AGEM members and the entire gaming industry in an interview with Roger Gros, publisher of GGB. To hear and view a full podcast of this interview, visit GGBMagazine.com. GGB: You’ve been president of AGEM for a few months now. What has it been like, now that we’re just coming out of the pandemic? Dave Lucchese: Yes. Aren’t I blessed to be the president during these
challenging times? But it’s been really good. My fellow officers have been very supportive in the transition. Under the circumstances, I think overall we’re doing pretty good. We have a great slate of officers. We even added another officer position and welcomed Elaine Hodgson from Incredible Technologies to join the board. So we’re glad to have Elaine’s presence and talent and contribution. She’s been a nice addition to the group.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Dave Lucchese, President, Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers
“We’re at a point right now— past halfway through 2021— where we’re better off than we were at the midpoint of 2019.”
The pandemic was a real challenge for AGEM. Nobody was making any money, so AGEM dropped the requirement to pay dues in 2020. Have you reinstated that now?
We have. It certainly has been a journey and a challenge for all of us. But when the pandemic hit—and it hit the gaming industry as hard or harder than almost any other industry—we looked at our financials, felt it prudent that we could pause dues for an indefinite period of time. We did that to benefit our members. That endured through 2020 and the beginning of 2021. We have since reinstated those dues. We’ve been on a recovery path, as an industry as well as most of our members. It doesn’t look like you’ve lost many members. It looks like you’re as strong as you ever were.
In 2021, we hit an all-time peak of membership. With the pandemic— and we were sympathetic to companies that make the decisions for whatever variety of reasons—we’ve lost a few as well. We’re at a point right now—past halfway through 2021—where we’re better off than we were at the midpoint of 2019.

Your members are really competitive out in the industry. You fight tooth and nail for market share. But suddenly, you come to AGEM and you’re all working together for the betterment of the industry. Is that because everybody realizes that a rising tide raises all boats?
I think, to a large extent, that is part of it. And you’re right; we’re fiercely competitive in the street. But just like the United Nations, we come to the table with the betterment of the industry. We advocate for our operator partners as well. We come to it with an attitude when we meet to really have a sensibility of what’s better for the industry. So I think everybody plays well together. But we’re a small industry, with what we could call “frenemies.” You go after it when it’s time to compete, and then it’s OK to go have a beer and talk about being friends as well.

AGEM’s economic impact is expansive, accounting for more than 60,000 jobs
AGEM has always had a great relationship with regulators, and even legislators to a large extent. Why is that such an important role?
We play in one of the most regulated businesses out there. We chose to do that, to be vendors in the gaming industry. But with that, over a period of time, you get accustomed to the landscape of this fun business we call “gaming.” So AGEM advocates on behalf of the industry, advocates on behalf of our members. And through that process we’ve gotten to know and have deep relationships with regulators and other influencers in the space, and time builds on that relationship. AGEM has a variety of committees that help support our member groups. But I would say one of the most active committees is our compliance committee, comprised of our members, compliance professionals. They advocate on behalf of their own company, as well as come together and advocate on behalf of the vendor space. I think that’s what makes AGEM so strong—we have a lot of consummate professionals that have been doing this for a long time. And I think that strength in numbers helps us be effective for our members. One of the areas that’s always a little touchy is the illegal games that are being offered in states at convenience stores, restaurants and bars. Most recently, Virginia banned those games, and before that Illinois completely cleaned up that side of the market. How do you approach that kind of thing? Because there are a lot of manufacturers that were always operating in those gray markets, and they’re not members of AGEM.
They’re not, coincidentally. In states like Missouri and Texas, it’s always a little bit of whack-a-mole where that activity is going on. Under the charter of AGEM, each of our companies has gone through a lot to be in this privileged, licensed, highly regulated business, so it’s our role to protect the overall space. Gaming has a great reputation because of this but over the years, it hasn’t always been that way. Those gray games or illegal games out there are not regulated. There’s no jurisdiction over them. So who knows what goes on? Nobody knows. And there’s some strong speculation of illegal activity beyond just the games. So fighting that to keep the reputation of the overall gaming industry and working with individual states and constituents is important, to keep the good reputation of regulated gaming polished and pristine.
It also sometimes puts you in an uncomfortable position with your customers, with the operators. In Illinois, for example, they vigorously oppose the machines in bars and restaurants, and lost that battle. That must be a delicate dance for AGEM.
It is. Fortunately, those conflicts don’t come up that often. But we’re all looking for expansion for our ownership groups or shareholders. We try to very pragmatically and sensitively approach those when they come to be, and the cards are going to fall the way they’re going to fall. But we are sensitive to the different stakeholders and where there may be conflicts. Another area that AGEM has really been up on recently has been responsible gaming. A few years ago, you appointed Connie Jones as the director of responsible gaming for AGEM. How has she contributed to that discussion, both for you and the industry as a whole?
I’m glad you brought that up. Certainly responsible gaming is a very, very important topic of conversation, as well as activities that our industry always stays active with. We’re very fortunate to have Connie on AGEM as a contributor. She’s a consummate professional, with years and years of experience that she brings to the table. With AGEM, it’s certainly one of the things we hold very dearly, of being an active participant in the responsible gaming initiatives. We’ve always known that the impact of gaming goes far beyond the physical casinos and the jobs they create. When you add AGEM and the products and services that operators buy from AGEM members and all its employees, the economic impact is substantial. Explain what that means.
Periodically, AGEM will have an economic impact study done. The last one we did was under different times. In April of 2019, we worked with Applied Analysis, and gaming was revving up pretty good in 2019. Overall, the slot companies reported nearly a $56 billion total impact. Nearly $21 billion direct impact. On the vendor side, AGEM has 61,700 direct employees—a huge employee base, and with a very healthy average wage of over $90,000, across that. So it goes without saying, AGEM members are a large contributor to the overall gaming economy. Speaking just on behalf of Everi, with everything we’ve gone through in the pandemic in the past 18 months, things have gotten healthier. We

still have more to navigate with the pandemic, but we’ve hired back all of our employees, plus some, to continue driving dramatic economic impact, as have other members of AGEM. AGEM works with a lot of constituencies— the AGA, the European Casino Association, the Gaming Standards Association—the alphabet soup of these organizations—as well as trade show operators, of course. How do you line all that up so that everything goes smoothly with those organizations?
AGEM advocates on behalf of the industry, advocates on behalf of our members. And through that process we’ve gotten to know and have deep relationships with regulators and other influencers in the space, and time builds on that relationship.
The foundation of that is Marcus Prater, as our longtime executive director. He’s contributed so much to AGEM over the years and serves as our point of contact for all of those different agencies and associations. He’s developed longstanding relationships with its key members. So with trade show organizations and everyone else, he is committed to working with those groups. He keeps AGEM very involved, as advocating for our members, as well as being a participant in a variety of different topics. And for the most part, AGEM is very aligned with the other agencies. Our members are also oftentimes members of those other organizations.
of this year, we’ll make an announcement for a replacement of Marcus. More to come on that, but we’re in a good place to find somebody to try to step into those very large Marcus Prater shoes. Also during this year, AGEM will have an office in the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Black Fire Center. Why is that an important milestone for the organization?
The UNLV Black Fire Center is going to be a great asset to Las Vegas and Nevada. They’re in the early stages of getting all the occupancy arranged, as well as expanding into additional buildings. It’s a nice piece of real estate. It’s important for AGEM to be present where gaming is present. And I’ll view that as somewhat of a little hub headquarters, with UNLV calling it home, and Caesars (having) an office out there. There are other AGEM members that have offices or are considering offices out there. We made the decision that it’s time for AGEM to grow up and have that presence among other industry professionals in the Black Fire Center. We’re working on the final paperwork right now, and by the end of the year, we should be occupying our office space there. We’ve already transitioned by hosting our past two monthly AGEM meetings at the center in one of the conference rooms. We’re happy to have the opportunity. It’s the right place to be.
Marcus has informed the AGEM board that he’s stepping down next year. What kind of process have you set up to replace him?
What do you hope to bring to AGEM for the remainder of your term?
Marcus Prater has served AGEM—and the industry—very well, with a very calm, steady hand, for years now. He’s agreed to stay on through the beginning of next year as well as a crossover, depending on AGEM needs and where we are. We thank Marcus for his contribution over the years, and I personally appreciate all his assistance and guidance for me in stepping in as president, as well as an officer of AGEM. So with that, we wanted to make sure we have a smooth transition. We’ve had a very open process of putting the word out that we’re looking for a replacement for the executive director position, and we’re gathering talent and going through an interviewing process. We expect to be able to finalize that and should be on track so that at G2E, or no later than the end
I’ll answer for the officer group overall. We view the path forward, our future, to be very, very bright, and really taking an opportunity as we change executive directors to reanalyze what our charter has been and refresh what we do. So we’re evaluating new initiatives, new objectives that AGEM will focus on into the future. We have a solid foundation of contributing for our members, and member participation is very active. So we’re reviewing the criteria, and I hold very high expectations that we’ll continue pushing on to new levels, with new objectives that will be fruitful for the industry as well as our members. I think that helps us to continue to keep AGEM fresh, by growing membership and having the membership profile continue to evolve as the industry evolves and grows.

the Tables
New table games have to be pretty surefire to find a place in today’s market. These designers and manufacturers know how to get them there. By Marjorie Preston
D
erek Webb once described selling table games as “pulling teeth.” In the 1990s, the U.K.-based inventor of Three Card Poker schlepped to Las Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City and Tunica, Mississippi trying to interest casinos in his new game concept. After a grueling road show, Shuffle Master bought the U.S. rights to the game, which became one of the most successful games ever. In the gaming industry, table games are a harder sell because they’re a bigger gamble. Unlike the slot floor, table pits are finite spaces; before a new game can move in, a proven performer has to move out. “The biggest fear for operators is that a new game won’t be as successful as the game that was replaced,” says John Glaser, executive director for Empire Technological Group, an innovator in table-game technologies. “Unlike slots, there is a limited number of table games in properties. One bad-performing game can have negative consequences for both the property and table game management.” According to Roger Snow, senior vice president of Scientific Games, the number of new table games launched in a year is “underwhelming— maybe four or five, including new side bets or progressives.” “Everybody underestimates how difficult it is to break through,” says Snow, who’s created a few killer games of his own, including Four Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold ’em. “It’s brutal.” Luckily, some early adopters aren’t afraid to roll the dice to discover the next blockbuster. “You’ve got to find properties that see themselves on the cutting edge, that want to partner on innovative new content,” says Tim Caffarelli, SG’s executive director of product management. “That’s where you get the early placements and start tracking the metrics.” Strong performance in field trials helps games find a wider audience.

A Progressive Party The big trend in recent years: progressives. “In pits seven or eight years ago, there was a lot of apprehension about electronics—people wanted to touch chips and see the cards—but that’s evolving,” says Caffarelli. “Now about 80 percent of pits across North America have progressive content.” Though progressives aren’t entirely new, Glaser notes, “suppliers have been adding them to all table games and poker, which didn’t exist before. New progressive controllers and equipment allow for the progressive award to increment immediately as additional bets are made—not dissimilar to how slot progressives have operated for years. This is driving player excitement, with the opportunity to win a significant progressive award by placing an additional bet on each hand played.” John Hemberger, senior vice president of table products at AGS, has built his division on proprietary offerings such as Criss Cross Poker, Jackpot Hold ‘em and Buster Blackjack. AGS specializes in sidebet and progressive products, notably the STAX Progressive product, which adds a must-hit-by progressive to tables, and Bonus Spin, which adds a wheel bonus. The big star is Bonus Spin Xtreme, a progressive side bet system that lets operators link every table on the floor to the same jackpot pool. “So baccarat can be linked to blackjack, can be linked to your specialty

“Everybody at the table, regardless of game type, is winning together, and that generates a lot of excitement. It has really generated a whole bunch of interest, because there’s not really anything out there that’s had any level of success on roulette in the form of progressives.” —John Hemberger, senior vice president of table products at AGS, on progressive jackpots at table games that involve all the players games, to craps, to roulette,” says Hemberger, who calls Bonus Spin Xtreme “a true community progressive. “Everybody at the table, regardless of game type, is winning together, and that generates a lot of excitement.” And a progressive for roulette “really generated a whole bunch of interest, because there’s not really anything out there that’s had any level of success on roulette in the form of progressives.”
EZ Does It Table games have a mystique and aura of complexity that keep some players on the sidelines. But games don’t go over big unless they’re easy and intuitive. “There’s some learning curve, but we have this adage that to be successful, you have to be able to learn it in 30 seconds or less,” says Caffarelli. “If you need to explain how the base premise works, you’ve probably lost the attention span of folks who might have adopted that game. And if it’s intimidating, that’s going to drive people away.” If a game is too intricate or confusing, it’s stacked the deck against itself. “It’s especially important for the dealer to understand, as the dealer becomes a pseudo-ambassador for the game,” Glaser says. “And if the game is successful, that turns into more financial rewards (gratuities) for the dealer.” Nowadays, he adds, there are fewer groundbreaking inventions than fresh takes on existing winners. “Unfortunately, it’s more about copying or rebranding successful games in the marketplace, side bets and different pay tables for existing successful games. For instance, baccarat. The baccarat game has basically two bets and tie. However, several suppliers have added new bets on top of the basic bets described above, based on specific card combinations that can happen. Today, baccarat can have as many as four additional bets on top of the basic bets.” Empire table games include Golden Frog Baccarat, Pai Gow Royals, Pai Gow Poker Dragon versus Tiger War, Vegas 6+ Hold Em Poker and others. The most popular and successful by far is Golden Frog Baccarat, due to its additional, configurable side bets, which increase the hold percentage for operators, who can choose from up to five unique side bets. Such products have allowed Empire to establish itself as a premier
High-Stakes Proposition
J
eff Hwang (r.) is a game developer, president of High Variance Games and the bestselling author of Pot-Limit Omaha Poker: The Big Play Strategy. Hwang acknowledges the challenges faced by table game developers with products to pitch. “This is a very small industry with a handful of distributors with the reach to put games in casinos across the country with any amount of scale. This in itself is a challenge for an individual developer. “I would also posit that, aside from the headache of small developers trying to get licensed in multiple jurisdictions—a complete non-starter for all but the most determined or insane—the ability for established distributors to utilize progressives across their game lineups in any given casino, a given market or beyond is a considerable competitive advantage. A small independent developer trying to create a new table game will be hopelessly challenged.” Another obstacle in today’s market is that game content is no longer patentable, Hwang adds. “So if all you have to offer is a game idea, you’re already toast by default.” Covid-19 has played a part, in that room for table games on casino floors has shrunk, “though in reality this area is ultimately small potatoes anyway compared to the potential opportunity that exists for electronic and online application.” All that aside, he says, “the biggest reason games fail to make a dent is that—once you understand both game math and how these games are designed—most everybody after David Sklansky developed Casino Poker (the precursor to what became known as Caribbean Stud) has mostly just been throwing darts.” Hwang says his own High Variance Games portfolio “occupies uncharted territory, delivering the highest-action, lowest-edge casino card games, while maximizing playability and win frequency. “In Super Blackjack, the player can split any two cards and double down for up to 4X, with unlimited pair re-splits; in game development terms, the result is that the player averages nearly four units wagered per hand, essentially delivering craps action at blackjack game speed. “Super Texas Hold’em features two progressively larger betting rounds, playing the way a poker player expects a hold’em game to play. And with an average wager of over seven units per hand, it’s also the highest-action casino card game ever devised by that measure. “In Super Pai Gow, the player shows a net win on ties instead of pushing as in regular pai gow, and shows a net win on 57 percent of hands, making this the first casino game in which the player is actually a favorite to show a net win.” Any new table game concept must vault Olympian obstacles on its way to market. According to Hwang, the successful game offers “the highest action possible while giving gamblers the lowest theoretically achievable house advantage per unit wagered in their respective classes—and creating room for them to make mistakes. “In short, where virtually all casino games are designed to be sold to the casino, these games are designed to be marketed directly to the gambler—but in a way that makes sense for the casino operator.”

Big Game Hunt

hat makes a table game great? Steve Cvetkoski (r.), Galaxy Gaming director of product development, says it’s “that perfect balance of uniqueness, volatility and excitement—a tricky recipe to master.” In August, Galaxy acquired the rights to Jeff Hwang’s High Variance Games, including Super Blackjack, Super Texas Hold’em, Super Pai Gow, Three Card Stud Triple Draw and Super Omaha Poker. “Super Blackjack and Super Texas Hold’em, in particular, really heighten the most exciting parts of blackjack and poker by offering unique mechanisms, multiple betting rounds and opportunities to raise,” according to Cvetkoski. “Players can gamble and be aggressive, but with a house edge that will keep them in action longer. “That’s the case with all of these games and a big reason why we’re so excited to get them into the land-based and digital spaces quickly. We expect high action while maximizing time on device— certainly a real win-win for both players and operators.” P3 talked to Cvetkoski about success in table games, and returning to G2E. How important is simplicity in a table game? Too complex, and players will lose interest from the start. Likewise, you want enough volatility to keep the excitement but maximize their time on the table. And you certainly want them coming back. Gaming is entertainment, and it needs to be fairly immediate. It can’t feel like you need to take a class to get started. What are some of the best new table games? That’s tricky, because the standards have changed; I don’t believe any recent game has truly pushed out the mainstays that dominate the market. My best answer is the proliferation of progressives. With some of the new and interesting things you can do with them, they’re probably the most important land-based idea happening now. While not new, progressives are a support product to both new and existing games that brings a tremendous amount of value to the table and excitement to the player. What does Galaxy have on tap for G2E, in addition to the High Variance games? We have anew premium game in Daredevil Poker, where players are awarded for taking some risks. And as for progressives, we are doing some really cool things with Bonus Craps. Why is it so hard for a new table game to break into the market? In reality, many reasons. Floor space is one. What game do you remove to place a new game, unsure if it will perform, unsure of player acceptance, especially if you feel you’ve optimized your game mix? However, we’ll never stop innovating, because it’s up to us to find that new game that players demand and ask for by name. That’ll make it an easier decision for operators.

supplier of tables games in several of the largest California card rooms. Shortly before G2E, Galaxy will launch its Empire’s Golden Frog SMRT Progressive, says Glaser, “and there’s currently a waiting list of customers to have this progressive installed.”
In the Pits For all these companies, Covid-19 had zero impact on creativity. “It was a bit of a standing eight-count for a while, with so many casinos closed,” says Snow, “but behind the scenes, our R&D department was working overtime.” At G2E, Scientific Games will focus on the next evolution of games in the progressive market, says Caffarelli. “We’re going to show a new augmented reality attachment that adds more digitization to the table and more excitement for the player. We’re going to introduce a wide-area progressive—a very big deal for us. You’ve heard about it in the slot arena, but this is a first in the table games space, basically linking across multiple properties as well as multiple game content within a property.” According to Snow, the WAP “has a higher jackpot than anything we’ve offered before, with more casinos and more tables linked to it. It hits faster and it hits bigger. That’s why people play progressives.” The company is proving out the product at several casinos in Atlantic City. Another big shift, Snow adds, is “a Netflix pricing model, where you can get all the content or a big chunk of it for a fixed monthly fee. Ours is called VALT, and we already have 400 customers in North America under this program. Whereas five, six, seven years ago it was a la carte pricing, now it’s sort of all-you-can-eat pricing, which creates tremendous elasticity for customers. It’s an innovation that’s changed the industry.” With more than 70 different games and side bets, VALT offers exclusive and original game titles, classics and new. VALT membership also includes discounts (excluding EZ Baccarat and EZ Pai Gow), and discounts on progressive equipment and utility products.
Deeply Felt Asked what he considers the gold standard in table game play, Caffarelli cites two. “Historically when you look at what has the most placements, it’s Three Card Poker. The game has been around for 15, 18 years; it’s a staple within a lot of game content. But when you look at the evolution of table games and getting some compelling mechanisms in place, as well as the ability to offer people the volatility within a felt game, we have to talk about Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em (created by Snow). That is very quickly becoming the standard by which we measure the success of a game.” Snow knows better than most the challenges faced by new games in the market. “Individual inventors can wander around hopelessly for years, like Diogenes with the lantern, saying, ‘Someone please take my game.’” He once told the story of a five-card poker game he created called Rabbit Hunter. “It tested really well. We thought it was going to be really successful, so we had all these promotional T-shirts made. Now people are washing cars with them.” But out there, some inventor has something great up his sleeve, something to rival the popularity of Three Card Poker or UTH. In a 2009 interview, Webb told the San Francisco Chronicle, “Success for me is defined by knowing that when people walk into a casino, mine is the game they want to play. Really, in my profession, there’s nothing better than that.”

cres Manufacturing was founded by John Acres, the inventor of casino systems technology. Since 1972, the Acres name has been synonymous with groundbreaking casino technology. In 1981, Acres started his first business, Electronic Data Technologies. EDT created a system that allowed casinos to track slot machine players by using loyalty cards, offering gamblers rewards based on how John Acres, Founder, Acres Gaming much they played. Acres started his next business, called Mikohn, in 1986. Mikohn devised the modern progressive jackpot system in which slot machine jackpots increase over time, creating growing excitement for players. By the time Acres and his partner sold the company in 1989, Acres’ initial investment of $120,000 had turned into $6 million. Acres’ third company, Acres Gaming, invented a system in which slot machines awarded instant bonuses based on current or accumulated play. Acres Gaming took $17 million to reach consistent profitability; Acres sold the company in 2003 for $143 million, and the casino industry has been at a technological standstill ever since. Acres has revolutionized the casino industry again with the Foundation Casino Management System. Foundation reports any SAS meter change in real time, giving casinos more than 1,000 times more data than ever before. These metrics reveal what really influences spend and loyalty decisions. Foundation’s structure gives casinos total ownership and control over this data, allowing it to be interfaced to anything the casino wants. Foundation delivers data from every slot machine to a transaction engine that can interface with any other data source, allowing a new dynamic between real-world and in-game events. An adaptable credit meter empowers casinos to change the player experience by changing the credit meter balance on any game, for any reason, at any time. Foundation is currently being installed at all Penn National Gaming properties, pending regulatory approvals. For more information, visit acresmanufacturing.com.

Redefining What Gaming Can Be
A
ruze Gaming once again demonstrates its unique strength for delivering the most inventive products to the global casino gaming industry. At the 2021 Global Gaming Expo, Booth 2659 will highlight Aruze’s passion for fun and entertaining products. Aruze has taken a familiar game and reimagined it in a way that creates an entirely new experience. In Go Go Claw Cash Grab, players use a physical claw to attempt to place a prize ball in the collection bin. All prize balls are worth the same amount, determined by the prize selection at the start of the game. Go Go Claw captures the attention of all who encounter it. Roll to Win Craps generates a similar reaction, creating a focal point. Improved reporting and a variety of options for dealer tipping now enhance this hybrid electronic table game. The more than 60 casinos now operating Roll to Win Craps have benefited from the 2X rolls per hour and dramatic labor savings the table can provide. Debuting at G2E is the Muso Dragon cabinet, featuring the Fu Jin Shu
game series. The Muso Dragon creates a deeply themed bank with proud dragons and lucky coins perched atop the game screens. Enveloping players in a sense of golden luck and luxury, the Muso Dragon is a perfect showcase for Asian-themed titles. Improved flexibility also is a feature of the Muso Limited. This premium cabinet now allows for more banking options, with the pod configuration utilizing the Reflection pod package to provide added illumination. A standout series on the Muso Curve-43 Hybrid is X Wheel. Already a stellar performer in initial placements, the four titles on X Wheel are captivating players with two ways to trigger credit symbol collect features. The Coin Collector series takes a straightforward credit symbol collect feature, but on a 4x5 reel set. This deceptively simple gameplay already has proven a new player favorite on the Muso Triple-27 Hybrid cabinet. At G2E 2021, Aruze solidifies its position as a company that redefines what gaming can be. For more information, visit Booth 2659 or aruzegaming.com.

top-ranking entertainment design firm, Cuningham creates gaming and hospitality environments that engage, energize and earn. The company’s cross-market approach to design leverages a deep understanding of immersive entertainment experiences, while the integration of these disciplines leads to innovative facilities that keep guests coming back time and again. With 30-plus years of experience providing design and planning services to premier entertainment owners, and significant experience in both tribal and commercial gaming, Cuningham sees firsthand how the markets are changing. The firm currently is collaborating with the Tachi-Yokut Tribe, which created its own development company, Palace Hospitality, allowing the Tachi-Yokut to develop projects with other tribes. Meanwhile, progressive tribes including the Mohegan Tribe and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians recently purchased existing gaming properties in Las Vegas. Advancements like these indicate an exciting time filled with many opportunities, and are a win-win for all involved. Cuningham helps operators pursue developments closer to cities to increase their return on investment. These projects often require novel solutions to fit the expanse of a gaming floor into a tight, urban site. The Cuningham-designed Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington is just such a project. Situated four floors above the ground and spanning three sites and two city streets, Emerald Queen Casino reclaims lost space and circumvents a restrictive city grid. The project’s seamless integration into the city’s urban infrastructure sets a groundbreaking precedent for the future of gaming. As this trend continues, Cuningham is committed to helping clients understand the opportunities, challenges and legal constraints associated with air rights and upward urban construction within the gaming industry. Cuningham’s ability to consistently create cutting-edge design solutions for the next level of gaming experiences is reflected in its recent ranking as the Engineering News-Record’s seventh-ranked Top Entertainment Design Firm for 2021. Carcamo & Associates is a marketing consulting firm comprised of experienced marketing and branding professionals, with decades of executive-level operational experience at some of the world’s top casino companies. The practice leaders of key firms supporting the casino industry for more than 40 years, JCA professionals offer extensive consulting experience. They provide complete project management with both strategic and tactical support, and partner with clients to build and position their brands, helping them reach potential customers during their “I want to know” and “I want to go” moments. Two main principles guide the JCA team: First, brand development is not a job, it’s a passion. Second, it’s crucial to mentor and teach marketers to be the best. At JCA, team professionals believe a brand is a life with a heart that beats energy throughout the organization. Nurturing this life requires thinking beyond the logo to each limb, nerve and sense. JCA professionals understand that a brand is more than the colors and strokes of a pen that create a logo. They work with client teams to understand their vision and their customers (or targets) to develop the tools needed to bring a brand to life. There may come a time when even the most successful brand may need a jumpstart. Like life, it may be minor cosmetic surgery, a bit of physical therapy or major surgery. JCA professionals can help rebuild and rejuvenate a brand to be the life of the party once again.
