Hearts and Soles: Protecting Little Feet in Gaza
Hearts and Soles: Protecting Little Feet in Gaza
The ongoing conflict in Gaza has left its mark on the most vulnerable population: children. Representing a significant portion of Gaza’s population, these young lives are facing unimaginable hardships. More than half of the estimated 1.7 million internally displaced people in Gaza are children who are struggling to survive without basic necessities like water, food, and medicine.
Addressing Immediate Needs: Shoes and Food
The numbers paint a grim picture. According to the latest estimates from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, over 14,000 children have tragically lost their lives, and thousands more have been injured. Families are torn apart, homes are destroyed, and safety is a distant memory. In Rafah, a city now overwhelmingly populated by displaced children, many live in tents or unstable housing, having been uprooted multiple times. These children have lost not only their homes but also their parents and loved ones, compounding their trauma and suffering.
Even the smallest act of kindness can make a profound difference in the face of such adversity. Among the most critical needs in Gaza, providing shoes for children stands out. That’s why the Reach Education Fund has launched the “Shoes for Kids” campaign.
This initiative aims to provide essential support to these vulnerable children, focusing on one of their most basic needs—footwear. Many children in Gaza are forced to walk barefoot, which not only exposes them to injuries but also to infections and diseases. Ensuring that each child has a pair of shoes is a step towards restoring their dignity and protecting their health, and at just $15 a pair, it’s an affordable way to improve the quality of life for these children.
Reach Education Fund also focuses on providing food aid to alleviate the hunger crisis. With over 85,000 hot meals served during Ramadan and more than 2,000 food parcels distributed, their efforts have reached many, but the need remains vast.
In addition to the Shoes for Kids campaign, you can contribute to various other essential services. For just $6 per person, you can help the Fund provide hot meals to those in need. A food parcel, which can sustain a family, costs $50. Hygiene kits, crucial for maintaining health and dignity, are $40 each. Additionally, you can support stranded students who cannot receive family assistance with a donation of $500 per student. Reach Education fund has already supported over 1,600 Gazan students in Egypt and Cuba, and their essential work shows no signs of slowing down. Your contributions to any of these services can significantly impact the lives of those struggling in Gaza.
