Issue 18 / February 2017 Optical Grain Sorters New generation machines

This month we learn about the latest updates and developments in the packaging industry and industrial grain storage. We get to know about the new generation of optical grain sorters developed by BĂźhler, and technological solutions for the industry provided by Brabender. We get valuable advice on preventing rodent and stored product insects activity from Rentokil, and find out the possible uses of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) in milling. We strive to provide relevant and useful information to our professional readership. Contributor submissions, press releases and feedback on our publications are always welcome.

Returnign to this notion of quality, the consumers want to see a natural product packed in a natural bag, without suffocating or adding preservatives to one of nature’s richest ingredients – flour. All Italpacks’s machines come with integrated checkweighers, rapid and closely set feedback systems, remote assistance and every accessory that modern packaging demands. Exporting to over 90 different countries has provided them with experience of many different products, costumes and climates, affording them the opportunity to innovate and be that step ahead. The Pack 50/10 H.O. is appreciated not mainly for its High Output of 20 packs per minute on 10kg, but also has been praised for the very neat bag it achieves, ideal for palletizing and always with a perfect closure. Different closure options available keep every marketing department happy, one of the above mentioned machines was supplied recently to Italpack’s Russian Customer, with four different closing techniques, including the application of a handle to the bag. While they are very well known amongst the milling industry, ITALPACK’s reliability and technical solutions are appreciated amongst many other packaging requirements, in fact their machines are used for aggressive products like sugar and salt. “Quality” is what today’s buyers are expecting, and is what Italpack is dedicated to, proud of every single line manufactured, to our highest standards and care.

close to the bait, for ease of disposal. 3. Cut out clutter: Move storage containers away from walls where possible and remember that less clutter means fewer places for rodents to hide. Seal holes in the exterior of the property with wire wool, caulk, metal kick plates or cement. Rats are also known to enter buildings through damaged drains, so it’s important to make sure that these are well maintained and checked regularly.

Stored Product Insects (SPIs) Stored Product Insect pests (SPIs) are responsible for the spoilage of commodities, ingredients and finished food and feed products worldwide. The disposal and replacement of these commodities can be extremely costly, so it is essential that bulk stored products are protected against the damaging and costly effects of SPI infestations. The most common SPIs are grain weevils (Sitophilus granaries), rice weevils (Sitophilus oryzae),saw toothed grain beetles(Oryzaephilussurinamensis), flat grain beetles (CryptolestesSpp) and flour beetles (TriboliumSpp). These insects can eat large amounts of food while developing from egg to adult. So, insects can cause serious problems to farmers or food manufacturers that store grain and grain based products in bulk. This can cause a considerable reduction in the weight of the product, resulting in a major loss of revenue. In addition, SPI-infested

always best to check with the experts.

The importance of regular silo cleaning Silos are a valuable business commodity, and any downtime due to pest or hygiene problems can be costly. Worst case scenarios of product contamination and product spoilage can easily cost thousands of pounds, and be an operational nightmare. The proper cleaning of these enormous structures can be a daunting and challenging task. It is recommended that silos are fully serviced with the help of a specialist hygiene team, who can clean them with minimal disruption to the operation of the food plant. It is also essential that any cleaning team tackling a silo clean is fully trained in confined space entry, emergency rescue as

After the CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) gone beyond the borders of Hollywood, it has created new services for humankind. New services that filled our daily life with artistic touches. To make people see what they want to buy before they touch or to present the things before they have been built and much more... There are a lot of things to say about it but for this part, we will examine the usage for proposal presentations in milling. There are a lot of ways to use CGI in the milling industry. In my experience main ones are: 1- Creating 3d Product Renders to present in an artistic way with even artistic lights to show the curvatures of the machines. How they bend, how their surface flows and even how is your craftsmanship for manufacturing machines. Photography has a lot of ways to achieve high-quality product photos but in CGI once you set your scene you have the power to create stunning visuals without using the manpower you must in the photography. Because in photography, if you change the angle you need to change many things with it such as lights, the camera, the background and even to take photos from below and the above of the giant machines won't be easy. In CGI to change this kind of things is a lot of easier if you manage to create a clean scene. 2- 3d Product Animations to present how your machines work. What are the key benefits of it from your competitors? Is it fast, safe or hygienic? Is it capable of producing high-quality grain? How is the inside of the machine? How do the grains flow inside it? So on and so forth. We can say that the animations are the only 'clear way' to show the clients how the machines work. There are a lot of animations styles to present the products. Also, you can even use them to present the company profiles too. Such as things like what is the meaning of your company logo, how you began everything, what are the capability of your facilities...

3- 3D Exterior Renderings of the factories for proposal presentations. This one is the most common usage of the CGI in the milling industry. Because of the nature of the industry, clients want to see their factories virtually on their estates. Today with CGI, we can define anything that possible on the factory exteriors. If clients want to see the difference or area usage between his existence plant and the one planned, we can achieve that. Even we can remodel and see the entire district with the future plant. That's why 3D exterior factory renders are one of the irreplaceable fragment for factory proposals. Yasin Melikoglu, IQra-Design

laboratory projects. The new, intelligent software not only connects the instruments and their measurement results, but also their users: on any type of end device, internally within the company, across all locations, and optionally even at suppliers and clients. The MBC has a compact design, being just a little smaller than a sheet of A4 paper. It can lie flat on top of many Brabender devices or, with a vertical width of just 7.5 cm, can be stored upright even in the most cramped laboratory workplace. One USB port is all you need to be able to update a wide variety of Brabender instruments using this upgrade kit: As well as the Farinograph-AT and the Micro Visco-Amylo-Graph, virtually all E-versions of the Brabender family of instruments are MetaBridge-compatible without the need for additional installation. This includes Farinographs, Amylographs and Viscographs, and shortly also the Extensograph as well as the Lab Compounder KETSE 20/40

according to the viscosity of the dough. This enables water absorption, dough development time, stability, fermentation tolerance and the degree of softening to be reliably depicted. The MetaBridge records these measurements vividly, enabling monitoring, analysis and documentation of the measurement data – on the equipment itself, or, if required, on external monitors for others to see. As well as the standard analysis, the software offers countless possibilities for designing your own custom tests with the TS generation of the Farinograph, such as for example: - Shorter test length and/or higher mixing intensity via adjustable rotational speed (2–200 rpm); - Variable mixing intensity and energy input into the dough for applications in research and development; - Programming of more complex rotational speed profiles, e. g. premixing at lower rotational speeds, mixing at higher rotational speeds, or the definition of pause times for longer dough-making processes; - Analysis of charts with atypical farinogram profiles, such as with wholemeal and/or rye flours or with the observation of enzyme effects. The Moisture Tester MT-CA electronically determines a sample’s moisture, according to the principle of the drying chamber with moving air. The drying oven method has been established as a reference method, which removes the need for special calibration for different samples. This moisture tester enables you to measure up to 10 samples at the same time: quickly, reproducibly and super-exactly, to a degree of 0.1% water content precision. And also for this equipment,

between team members involved, but also when it comes to decision making on the part of those responsible for quality management, wherever in the world they might be. The software solution also gives you five important bonus points, which together with the MBC make day-to-day work in the lab more efficient. • The user interface boasts a contemporary tiled design.
