CHAIRMAN’S FOREWORD
In my capacity as Chairman of the Board of Trustees I am pleased to present the Annual Report and Financial Statements for the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP) for the period ending 31st December 2013. Since our establishment in 2011 Global NCAP has made great progress. We have seen our key NCAP partners in the rapidly motorising regions of South East Asia and Latin America already award five stars to some of the models they have tested. This is a rate of improvement in vehicle safety much faster than was achieved in the first years of the NCAPs in high income countries. In this Annual Report we describe our activities in 2013 and our plans for 2014. This is a team effort and I would like to thank our NCAP partners for their support. It is immensely satisfying to see established NCAPs like Australasian NCAP and Euro NCAP giving vital assistance to both ASEAN and Latin NCAP. Our work also depends on the support of the FIA Foundation, International Consumer Research & Testing, the Road Safety Fund and the Inter-American Development Bank and we are most grateful for their vital contributions. I would also like to recognise the excellent work of the Technical Centre of the ADAC whose crash laboratory has carried out a significant amount of Global NCAP’s testing activities. Finally I would like to thank Global NCAP’s own dedicated management team led by David Ward. Together we are proud to be contributing to the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety - promoting safer cars worldwide to help to achieve the ambitious goal of cutting by half the forecast level of road fatalities by 2020.
