EXPLORE DOURO RIVER VALLEY

Wake up in wine country! Start your morning with a refreshing swim in the pool on AmaDouro’s top deck, watching as the sun settles itself over the countryside. Then savor a leisurely breakfast before preparing for your exciting day ahead.

MORNING

After disembarking from the ship, you might choose to tour the house and famous gardens of the dazzling Palacio de Mateus, or perhaps it’s straight to a local quinta (countryside estate) for a guided tasting of Port, the liquid gold of this region. Another day, you might opt for an energizing hike up to the centuries-old village of Castelo Rodrigo — which surveys the surrounding lands from its hilltop perch — or cross the Spanish border to see Salamanca, a medieval city built of golden sandstone (and a UNESCO World Heritage Site).

AFTERNOON

Following late afternoon tastings of regional delicacies like presunto, a type of dry-cured ham, it’s time to head back to the ship for a multi-course dinner at The Chef’s Table.

EVENING

This intimate restaurant sees chefs preparing specialty tasting menus right in front of you, with each course expertly paired with fine European wines.

In true AmaWaterways style, your evening also includes entertainment by talented local musicians; it’s the perfect end to a day of exploring the transcendent Douro River Valley.
