PONANT Guests Reach Geographic North Pole

On July 13 guests aboard PONANT’s Le Commandant Charcot reached the geographic North Pole, marking the first time ever a luxury passenger vessel brought travelers to this otherworldly and northernmost point on Earth. The achievement was made possible thanks to PONANT experts in expeditions to the polar regions.

“It is with great humility and emotion that we have reached this latitude, each of us aware of the exceptional character of this moment we have been living,” said Captain Patrick Marchesseau. The achievement follows closely upon Le Commandant Charcot’s first voyage to the North Pole in September 2021. This voyage marked the first time a French vessel reached this latitude.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises unveiled highlights of a refined menu currently in the works to appear in one of the cruise line’s most popular restaurants, Sette Mari. Inspired by Italian cuisine, the new offerings will be fully revealed during Seven Seas Grandeur’s inaugural season in November 2023. After its release, the cruise line will integrate the menu across Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ soon-to-be six-ship fleet. “I was already excited to launch Seven Seas Grandeur at the end of 2023, but now knowing what we have in store with Sette Mari’s refined recipes, the anticipation to sail on board will be even greater,” said Jason Montague, president and CEO, Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “An Unrivaled Experience calls for exquisite cuisines, and I could not be prouder of our incredible team and the unrivaled culinary experiences they create and deliver for our guests with every meal, on every sailing.”

New or refined dishes on the new menu include bruschetta al pomodoro, zucchine alla poverella, Chef Nino cioppino, focaccia con pomodorini and cozze gratinate al forno.

“A process such as this usually takes around 12 months to perfect,” explained Bernhard Klotz, vice president food & beverage, Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “The next steps will be to confirm all the new ingredients and establish their supply, finalize the menu and recipes and then train our incredible chefs across the fleet.”
