THE VISITOR II 1. Background Each year, students from the architectural school in Lund, Sweden, create a piece of art in concrete, with the aim of exploring the possibilities of concrete as a material. For the 2002 project, the aim was to produce a temporary installation for Karhรถgstorg, a small square in Lund that was already furnished with an existing installation. 2. The concept The idea of "The Visitor II" as the students common project is named, is to create an installation for the square, that both relates to and enhances the existing artwork and possesses a spirit and life of its own. In this way, it adds to the experience of the users of the square and the residents adjacent to the square. COPYRIGHT 2002 AALBORG WHITE

THE VISITOR II 3. "The Visitor II" "The Visitor II" is an entity set apart from the remaining elements of the square and surroundings, yet relating to them by approaching them physically. In itself, it is composed of 27 differently shaped concrete elements, placed seemingly disorderly across and outside the square. 4. The components The individual elements of "The Visitor II" are made from white concrete. The surface texture is varied between smooth and rough, and at places black rubber pieces have been inserted. The purpose of the rubber pieces is both to increase comfort for people sitting on the blocks and to enhance the graphical expression.

THE VISITOR II 5. Varying viewpoints As "The Visitor II" is placed at the base of a large residential building, the viewpoint from which it is experienced varies, depending on whether the spectator is situated in or near the square, or in one of the apartments above it.

6. Adaptation The presence of "The Visitor II" has mostly been received positively by the residents. Even so, some rearrangement of the elements has occurred. In this way, "The Visitor II" continuously adapts to its new environment - it may even be settling into a permanent position in the square... COPYRIGHT 2002 AALBORG WHITE
