Committed to a Sustainable Future

www.globusgroup.com

OUR PLEDGE At Globus Group, sustainability is high on our agenda; we continuously invest in new sustainable solutions. We are passionate about protecting the environment and our customers, enabling them to do their jobs safely and empowering them to do the best they possibly can.

“We’re equally passionate about protecting our planet”

It’s our duty to provide sustainable solutions for future generations and we take protecting the environment very seriously. We have over a quarter of a century of heritage in providing high-quality health and safety solutions, so we truly appreciate the importance of thinking long-term. And we understand the REAL meaning and value of sustainability.

We pride ourselves on our agility and capacity to adapt and innovate. And we’re committed to applying that approach to the challenges of the green agenda.

2

We pledge to ensure our business and operations are as economically, environmentally and socially sustainable as possible creating high-quality local jobs, reducing waste and energy use, protecting natural resources, supporting our communities and strengthening local supply chains.

We believe that economic and ecological progress go hand in hand. So we will always strive to be environmentally responsible as we meet the needs of key partners and stakeholders.

As a leader in the manufacturing sector, we have a responsibility to set a good example, while maintaining outstanding levels of safety, protection and reliability across our PPE portfolio. Our gold standard range is manufactured using high-quality, longer-lasting materials and wherever possible our products are reusable and washable. Many products are manufactured in facilities that participate in sustainable energy programmes by sourcing and using power from renewable biomass fuels. The principles of reduce, re-use and recycle will drive many innovations across our product portfolio in the future.

“For us PPE also means Passionate about Protecting our Environment”

MADE IN THE UK 3

RESILIENCE & SUSTAINABILITY A key strategy for Globus is to manufacture 75% of our products in the UK. These plans have been accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis and we have commissioned two new factories in England and Scotland creating hundreds of new UK jobs. The substantial increase in local production rather than South Asia manufacturing is having and will continue to have a significant impact on our carbon footprint. The importance of control and resilience in local manufacturing means we are already making good strides in driving efficiency and reducing waste. We are also driving in-country operational and supply sustainability, plus sourcing more raw materials locally.

Increasing UK Production

Reducing Carbon Footprint

Cutting Manufacturing Waste

Sourcing Local Supply

Our commitment to sustainability in action.

We are also working closely with our customers, partners, and suppliers to develop more environmentally friendly product and packaging solutions and business practices. Key Globus goals include accelerating reduction in the use of plastics wherever possible, developing innovative new technology to further reduce waste, and participating in sustainable energy programmes.

TOWARDS ZERO WHAT WE’VE ALREADY DONE In recent years, we have made some significant steps on the journey towards reducing our carbon footprint. We have:

Increased local production through substantial investment in UK facilities. As well as supporting local communities and creating jobs, this has a significant impact on our carbon footprint by massively reducing the travel distance of products.

Moved our headquarters to a more energy-efficient building, which gives us double the space with only half the energy consumption. Installed LED lighting and motion sensors to reduce energy consumption and light pollution.

Invested in an electric and hybrid fleet of company vehicles, with multiple charging points at our HQ.

Switched to the most energy-efficient carrier network, leading to lower energy consumption per box, and movement to electric vehicles.

Cut waste in our core local manufacturing process. Reduced the volume of material used in our core outer packaging. Recycled all core on-site materials.

Switched to energy-creating incineration wherever possible and appropriate.

Introduced eco/compostable bags or cardboard packaging for marketing materials and samples.

Partnered with Spill Defence Manufacturing Ltd to create an innovative sustainable solution for our PPE waste by recycling off-cuts from respirator production into absorbent cleaning materials.

OUR PRODUCTS & PACKAGING As part of our overarching strategy, we are committed to bringing more sustainable solutions into our product range, our manufacturing processes and distribution. Safety and protection must remain at the core, but through investment in innovation and technology throughout the supply chain, we are finding new solutions to reduce the environmental impact, enhancing sustainability without sacrificing quality. We are promoting the use of washable, reusable protective gloves to reduce PPE wastage. Encouraging longer-term use of gloves can help to significantly reduce overall consumption and waste. Several gloves from the SHOWA and Skytec ranges can be used over longer periods (>3 days), and some are also suitable for washing (at 40°C with a neutral detergent) and reuse. Mechanical and/or chemical resistant properties typically remain after three washes, but this depends on the degree of wear to the glove which must be checked. We also always encourage responsible disposal of used gloves.

HAND PROTECTION SHOWA & SKYTEC SHOWA has been committed to sustainability for many years, with its Himeji factory obtaining an ISO14001 certification for compliance with environmental standards in 2007. SHOWA is continuing to innovate to improve product durability and its use of eco-conscious materials and biodegradable products. It is also committed to the reduction and phasing out of unnecessary packaging, as well as minimising waste through precise management of production lines and quality control. All SHOWA glove liners and coatings are made from virgin raw materials, which not only provide consistently high performance but also remove the need for the additional chemicals many other glove manufacturers rely on. And, unlike many other glove manufacturers, SHOWA doesn’t use any animal-based products such as leather. At present, all packaging materials used conform to the strictest environmental guidelines. Key environmental initiatives currently underway from SHOWA and Skytec, in partnership with our suppliers, include:

Ensuring that user information sheets and instruction information is printed on recycled paper.

Working with a major supplier to start using thinner cartons in order to reduce the overall product weight.

Starting to implement a pouch to replace the plastic polybags used in packaging for major products, including, Aria, Beta 1, Ninja, Crest, Tromso, Ohio, Idaho, and Argon.

HAND PROTECTION ECO PRODUCTS Recycle Fibre Glove These gloves use recycled materials in the place of between 50% and 100% of the conventional fibres. This creates a stable, durable, and comfortable glove which is also GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified.

Eco Best Technology® SHOWA’s revolutionary Eco Best Technology® (EBT) helps protect the environment, without compromising protection and performance. Launched in 2012, these biodegradable nitrile gloves are the industry’s first, and today, SHOWA offers the most extensive selection of biodegradable hand protection in the market. Thanks to its special composition, EBT gloves decompose within 1 to 5 years in active landfills, where regular nitrile gloves need more than 100 years. EBT requires biologically active landfills for biodegradation. This means that gloves with EBT cannot begin to biodegrade prior to disposal.

Genium™ Eco-Friendly Liner Launched in September 2020, the Skytec Crest and Aria 360 gloves use the new Genium™ eco-friendly liner. The Genium™ liner is made from 37% renewably-sourced ingredients, and its production process requires 30% less energy and produces 63% less CO2 emissions than an equal amount of Nylon6. Overall, the Genium process consumes 40% less energy than commonly used textile polymers (polyester, nylon).

SHOWA 310 Grip In customer tests, the 310 Grip gloves have been found to outlast many “copy-cat” products by up to five times, meaning that they deliver a huge reduction in waste, packaging, and CO2 emissions.

HEAD PROTECTION ENHA ENHA’s well-established and award-winning safety helmets are developed, designed and manufactured in Germany utilising cutting edge technology. Its longer-lasting, safer and better designed hard hats, not only helps employers keep their workers safe, the products also offer a more sustainable head protection solution and mitigates accident liability. Some key environmental and social initiatives currently underway from ENHA include:

Collecting and grinding plastic waste material from the production process to be reused for certain components of ENHA products.

Investing in new machines and tools to contribute to reducing waste.

Reviewing the supply chain to find local sources for some items which were previously sourced from China.

Using brown, non-bleached cardboard for the majority of product packaging.

Working with a number of customers to eliminate plastic blister packaging in favour of cardboard.

Subscribing to Reclay Systems for the recycling of transport packaging (in-line with German legal requirements).
