PLAY table

Lavinia Perleonardi / Giuseppe Recchia

How to change the usual idea of crafts, to renew the relationship between the customer and the artisan,to intrigue and entice users to have a closer contact with the shop and the products inside? By leveraging the capabilities of the wise master artisan Giuseppe Recchia, I turned an usual wooden table into an interactive, customizable and with multiple functions design object. It is a coffee table - but replacing its foot could be turned into a desk or a dining table – which is made up of several pieces of different wood species, ranging from the maple (brighter) to the wenge (darkest). Pieces can be moved, changing the nuances of the shelf, with the chance to create new drawings, moreover when turned upside-down, the pieces become pen-holder, glove boxes, bookends, or a support for a laptop.

Designer and craftman can design an realize new pieces too, with different functions to meet needs of customers. Play is a mono-material object that highlights the beauty of a precious ecological material such as the wood, it exploits the technical skills of the craftsman and lends itself to creativity and needs of the user who can reinvent, every day, a new object.
