Black is my favourite color, and inspite of what some people say so negatively about it, to me black comes out tops.
To me black is all colors. And yet perhaps a non color as it goes beyond the spectrum of mere colors.
Black is the color synonymous with The Void that holds great fascination for me. Black never fails to tempt, to tantalise.
Art journaling is a daily practice for me and ever so often i fill my pages with black. I enjoy losing myself in black, exploring the dark inner space that in sanskrit is called chidakasha. I find comfort in the solitude of the inner silence that to me is a luminous black.
There is something intriguing about black. It is a strong color. A powerful color. A color that stands on its own. A color that conjures a great deal of mysterious imagery.
The japanese designer Issey Miyake once said that there are 12 shades of black and I find that so engaging.
I am very inspired by the late French artist Pierre Soulages, who was hailed as the black painter. Soulages got into the heart and soul of black. His work to me is not just black art: it is a black experience.
I will never tire of black. If I was allowed only one color in my life - it will always be black.
