Chinatown Evolving around 1921 when the first Chinese junk arrived in Singapore where the passengers set up home at Telok Ayer, the south of the Singapore River. The only fresh water source were from the many wells at Spring street and Ann Siang Hill, and each household collected water in bullockdrawn carts hence forming Chinatown’s local name “Niu Che Shui” (Bullock Cart Water).

Consisting of five districts: Telok Ayer, Bukit Pasoh, Tanjong Pagar, Kreta Ayer and Ann Siang Hill, these districts have their own unique identity cultivated over the years. From the festive spirits, monumental buildings, mouth-watering food, and even trishaw rides, Chinatown is sure to charm you.
