"LEST WE FORGET" LUKE 2 NIV In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God andsaying,14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another,“Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

CHRISTIAN LIVING

BEARING GIFTS: WHEN’S THE LAST TIME YOU SOUGHT GOD ABOUT HIS GIFTS TO YOU? After Jesus was born, the three kings known as the Wise Men went to look for Jesus. They were considered the wise men because they were noted as men with great wisdom. Thus, they were known as the Magi, which comes from the Greek word Magos, and in English Magos is the word magic. The three Wise Men were identified as men that were teachers in the study of science and astrology. When the three Wise Men noticed an unusual star in the sky, they knew it was related to the birth of a special king. King Herod asked the Wise Men to find the special king, but it was because King Herod feared that this new king would overrule him. So, the Wise Men went on a journey to find Jesus. The interesting aspect of their trip is that they took him three gifts: Myrrh, frankincense, and gold, and they hold a special meaning. Gold: is associated with supremacy and power. Jesus is the King of kings. · Frankincense: is an aromatic resin oil that is used in worship, and it was a sign of worship and reverence. Oil in the Bible is related to anointing. · Myrrh: is perfume that people used to put on dead bodies to mask the smell. This perfume was symbolic because it signaled Jesus’s death.

December 2019 Issue 01 | 09

When the three Wise Men were about to tell Herod on the whereabouts of Jesus, they were warned not to do so through a dream. When we think about it, these gifts are odd to give to a newborn. But they symbolized Jesus’s identity as King of the Jews, anointed by God, and it signaled the coming of his death and burial. Now let’s think about our lives. When we are born, we have already been equipped with hidden gifts and talents by our Heavenly Father. The mission then becomes uncovering those spiritual gifts and using them to serve God’s will, a will that includes helping others. Understand that the spiritual gifts that have been bestowed upon you are linked to a specific purpose and an earthly mission that holds kingdom impact.

Consequently, you must pay close attention to your ministerial inclinations. For instance, if you have a passion for singing than you would want to serve in the worship ministry at your church. Do you love serving in the kids’ ministry department and helping with preparing Sunday school lessons? If so, your spiritual gifts are related to contributing administration and leadership skills. Also, keep one thing in mind that spiritual gifts go beyond ministerial walls. What if you have a passion for a specific organization or cause? What if your spiritual gifts can be activated via your career or job?

A key indicator that you’re using your God-given gifts effectively is when others can see the love of God in you. We all have the same mission, and that’s to announce the good news of Jesus as savior. It’s to acknowledge that Jesus died for our sins and his resurrection gave us access to eternity. Are your actions a reflection of God’s mercy and goodness? Are you praying for others when they need prayer support? Are you preaching God’s message to unbelievers? Are your Godgiven spiritual gifts being used to bring peoples into relationship with the Father?

If your answer is no, then you must adopt self-awareness and pray that your spiritual gifts may become aligned to God’s will. Remember that your spiritual gifts are meant to cause impact not only in the present generations but in the ones to come.Think of your Are you aware of your children or the people you spiritual gifts? disciple as a leader. The purpose of spiritual gifts is to use them to bring people to Christ. Are you providing Christlike treatment and support via your service?

For instance, if you’re an excellent speaker than you can use your ability to develop a speech as a way to preach the gospel. If you’re a great writer, then your writing skills are a natural talent that you can use to write Christian content. Content that can help new believers understand the gospel via any form of written information. But the spiritual gift in writing is to be an anointed writer that can spiritually lead others to encounter Jesus. Spiritual gifts take time to discover, mature, and develop as your relationship with God grows and is strengthened through trials and struggles. However, if they are not put into use they are lost. Matthew 25:29, “For whoever has will be given more, and they will have abundance. Whoever does not have what they have will be taken from them.

l was seven, l wanted to be a tennis player. I “I once read When had just discovered Serena and Venus Williams and wanted to be that great. Many people let go of their passion and decide to settle for something else. Usually, this happens because either the dream career is too uncertain and the person needs a stable income to pay the bills, or they get too many NOs and start thinking they are not good enough or they can’t make it. But what does God say about your aspirations; about those things you have always wanted to do. I once read somewhere that “no goal or aspiration, when in accordance with God’s word, is too small or too insignificant to be considered." God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 that “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”[1] the amplified version says : “For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Our loving and heavenly father has great plans for us; he wants the best and want us to be aware of that; God wants to give us a future AND a hope. Where are your hopes now? Have you lost hope, or you still believe your best days are ahead?

Where is the Dream You Lost? "And How Do You Get It Back?" As they say, life happens. You might have put your dreams aside for one or another reason and have been dulling the spark in you for a long time. But the truth is, passion drives us. The Oxford dictionary defines a dream as “a wish to have or be something, especially one that seems difficult to achieve”. The truth is, when you work towards something you aspire to, the love fulfillment you get from the task makes it easier to sustain the struggle. A quote usually attributed to Confucius says: “Choose a job you love, and you'll never have to work a day in your life”. How do you relate to this? Nowadays, the average working time in the US is 8.4 hours per day; that’s more than a third of your day you’ll spend at work. No wonder an unpleasing work environment often leads to an unhappy life or even depression. But Our Lord is merciful and has wonderful promises for us. In Joel 2:27, God promises: “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” Let’s take a close look at this scripture to understand its depth.

[1] Unless indicated otherwise, all verses cited in this article are from the King James version of the Bible.

First, remember people in those days were mostly farmers and therefore, they depended on the quality and quantity of the harvest. “the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm”, are parasites that can destroy plants and thus have a negative impact on the quality of the harvest. The utmost consequence being famine. When God talks about restoring the years eaten by these parasites, it is a metaphor. God promises to restore the years of your life that have been devoured by life’s parasites. They may have eaten up the passion in you, but you can get it back and light back the flame. How do you go about this? It all starts here; Hebrews 10:35 tells us “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.” Do not give up on your hopes or passion because of circumstances that surround you. You might end up existing rather than living. God wants us to be happy, Jesus-Christ says so in John 16:24 “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” The Amplified version reads thus: “Until now you have not asked [the Father] for anything in My name; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy may be full and complete.” Have you refrained from asking? The Bible says you should ask, and it shall be given to you. Have you asked and stopped asking at a certain point and stopped asking afterwards, the Bible encourages you to keep asking because Habakkuk 2:3 urges us to do so: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Read the amplified version and learn that “For the vision is yet for the appointed [future] time It hurries toward the goal [of fulfillment]; it will not fail. Even though it delays, wait [patiently] for it, because it will certainly come; it will not delay.” Wait for it because it will certainly come. Do you know you can break down the word PUSH to help you hold on fast to prayer while you wait for the promise? Pray Until Something Happens.

Life might be tough, but Jesus-Christ has overcome the world. The promises of God are there to encourage us in our journey. You are never alone because our heavenly Father takes care of us in every circumstance. God is good all the time; when life doesn’t seem so good, He is faithful enough to make a way so that we can cope and overcome. 2 Corinthians 4 encourages us in these words: “8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” So be still because God shall fight the battle for you. Sit back with yourself and think. Where did you park your passion, in which distant part of your brain did you keep it? Are you ok with the current state of your life or do you need to light up that fire? Which steps can you take towards it today? We usually think that something is impossible because we want to do it all at once, but that is not always the best way. You might need to break down the journey into miles and even into single footsteps to achieve your goal. They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. Start there, plan. Figure out everything you’ll need to achieve that goal. Let no one tell you it is impossible or that you are crazy. Instead, put your trust in God to strengthen you and to give you the wisdom and commitment you need to be consistent in your endeavor. Your life has surely evolved all this while, but it is never too late. Do you love dancing? Take dancing classes and if you can’t afford dancing classes, dance in your parlor. Do you love singing but no one has enjoyed your voice for a while? Sing in the shower. There is always something you can do to get back that passion. Take the decision today to light back the flame of your passion and pray for God to guide you. You will soon realize all the small steps you took towards your goal paid off.

PURPOSE, PASSION & GOD How to Assure the Three are Aligned in Your Life By Elder-Elect E. Chantaye Watson

“I knew that somewhere in my passion, my purpose could be found.”

Hello Purp ose

I’m sure that our definition of purpose in the Kingdom of God is way different than God’s definition. We think small compared to how big God thinks. We also think surface, or we allow others to assign us thoughts according to what they think. They hear you sing a little bit, so you’re only asked to do a solo on the program. Another example would be to think of ourselves as an usher because that’s what we’ve been doing from a child and we can do it with our eyes closed, so that must be what our purpose is but what God has in mind for you is Pastor. I’m reminded of Jeremiah when Jesus dealt with him about what He wanted him to do. I found it intriguing that Jesus started the conversation out with Jeremiah 1:5 saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” Whew! I’m sure Jeremiah didn’t have that in mind because as soon as Jesus said it, he had excuses, like many of us today, for why he couldn’t do it. He couldn’t speak and he was too young. But Jesus shut all that down. He had a purpose, and it had come for him.

er v o n c s o Di assi P

First, let’s remind ourselves of what purpose is? Dictionary.com explains it as the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc. But how does God define our purpose? Earlier in my walk with God, I was simply happy to be saved and restored back unto the Father. I figured that was all for me: go to church and serve God until my time on this earth was over. But after a while, “more” began to pull on me. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I knew that there was more that God required of me. There was more of a reason for my life on this earth than just sitting on a pew doing a little here and there. And as God dealt with me about my purpose, like Jeremiah, the first thing He did was give me a scripture. That scripture was the familiar Jeremiah 29:11.

Meet God

Purpose is not a surface thing. Sometimes you must dig deep to understand it. It’s why you are you! I had so many things I was great at; however, I never linked any of them with my purpose nor my reason for being here. But as I grew spiritually, developed in my relationship with God and His word, more of who He said I was and what I so passionate about began to connect. However, it wasn’t what I guessed it to be. I always thought I was placed here to sing. From a little girl in daycare, that’s what I did. My mom kept me on a stage singing. So, singing in church came naturally although, I really didn’t care to do it. There had to be something else! I had zero passion for singing! Someone said to me one day, “find your passion, find your purpose.” And that always stuck with me. But what was my passion? I sought God about it. My answer came through someone I didn’t know, that spoke to me, “Hello God’s Encourager.” He addressed me boldly how God showed him who I was and not who I introduced myself as. In Jeremiah 29, verses 13-14, it says, You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, Bridgett Davis said something powerful regarding this, “God has to first reveal the misalignment. You in your strength, in your perception and/or in your way cannot align yourself.” And I thinkthat’s where many of us mess up: we try to align things our way, instead of allowing God to align our life, His way. Some steps to assuring that all three are aligned in your life include:1. Relationship 2. Seeking Him with your whole heart3. Knowing God’s voice and Hearing Him andnot you or your friends 4. Obedience5. Being flexibleGod knows the plans (thoughts) concerning us and it is only when we surrender ourselves wholeheartedly to Him that we will see all three link and come to fruition in our life!

LET'S TALK ABOUT IT

Is There A Disconnect? By Cynthia D. Stargell

Everyone knows Christmas is centered around the birth of Christ, right? Well, maybe not. From the reading of Luke 2 in the Holy Bible, we have acknowledged the birth of Jesus Christ for centuries as the entrance of the Savior of the world. Yet, amidst controversy and political correctness of this new age, some GL: What does the Bible say about living out what you Christians are scratching their heads as to how we should were born or created to do? celebrate December 25th without relinquishing the traditional spirit Pastor Bryant: Life is short, and we should, as believers, be of Christmas which was spiritually based from the beginning. convicted in our sanctified souls to make godly choices every day. As a point of reference, Pastor Bryant offers Psalm 90:12, Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so professing Christianity or association with major religions at all. that we may grow in wisdom (NLT). HEALTH

END OF THE YEAR HEALTH CHECK BY ALI PERT Why should one need an annual health checkup? Is it necessary? Throughout the year, people put lots of effort into improving their health. To evaluate the physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental health, an end of the year health check is essential to evaluate your current health status and prepare for the future. What is the end of the year health checkup? The end of the year health checkup is a yearly visit to an individual’s healthcare provider with the purpose of evaluation of your health to measure different parameters of the health. It is also called a routine physical examination, health check, or preventive health check. According to the World Health Organization, health is defined as the state of physical, mental, and social wellbeing, not only the absence of disease. So, all these things are essential to become healthy and fit. Mental health is critical because it describes your mood and your approach towards a specific matter. What happens at an annual health check? There are many types of health check, the physical examination or physical health check is done with the help of: · A blood test A urine test · Blood pressure check ·A chest x-ray ·Girth, height and weight measurements Physical check With the help of an annual physical check, your doctor can evaluate various problems in your health or anticipate potential problems. If problems are diagnosed earlier, then treatment options can be more effective. This also includes filling out a medical questionnaire, which includes questions related to your lifestyle, such as how many cups of coffee or tea you drink in a day, and questions about your exercise routine. Many questionnaires and doctors now also ask questions about your mood, your thought processes, whether you are experiencing signs of anxiety or depression. December 2019 Issue 01 | 16

Doctors may also order additional diagnostic tests like a mammogram, colonoscopy, bone density or others to gain a full picture of your health. Check on medications Your doctor can also check your medications at your annual health check. Doctors ensure the safety of the medications according to your health condition. The doctor can check and evaluate any possibility of side effects or drug interactions. Doctors check both prescription and over-the-counter medications that you are taking. Screening tests Preventive and diagnostic health screenings are essential. These may dig deeper into blood issues, organ operation, cellular systems and other areas. Benefits of the annual health check Medical documentation Your health professional notes your vitals, challenges and progression in your records during an annual health check. All these signs are documented and stored for future purposes to quickly help medical professionals review any redflags or attempted treatment options. Health planning The end of the year health check is important to identify your current health status and measure the effect of medicines you are taking, your eating habits, lifestyle choices. Each and everything is monitored, and then your doctor suggests a health plan accordingly.

Importance Of Spiritual Health at the End of the Year Health Check Many people give importance to their religion. Your health is affected by the issues and beliefs, but most patients do not discuss spirituality with their physician. More doctors are beginning to discuss spiritual practices with their patients, to understand how religious beliefs may affect their choices in medication and treatment. Many patients are becoming clearer about practicing faith in addition to medically prescribed options. Doctors should also be keenly aware if a patient practices fasting regularly as a spiritual discipline so that a discussion can be had about whether medication can be altered or negated on fasting days. Some doctors may use specific tools like HOPE questions and FICA to assess the spirituality of the patients. Physicians keep the record of the spiritual assessment for observing patient’s health, its effect on treatment plans, and the overall health of the patient. Importance of Mental Health at the End of the Year Health Check The end of the year health check may also seek to define your way of thinking, feeling, and dealing with people, your reasoning, and ability to remember something. It is a critical assessment of emotional wellbeing . If a physician has concerns about somethings, may suggest counselling. Thus, this may require a mental health check to diagnose different health conditions, such as schizophrenia, depression, eating disorders, anxiety, and psychotic illnesses.

WHEN SUNDAY COMES

CAROL

J.

WILLIAMS

Text: Luke 1: 26-38 26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore, also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

As we enter this Christmas Season, I want you to hear this prophetic assurance - Your Water has Broken! I know, you’re thinking that makes no sense as it relates to Christmas. I think it absolutely does. And, I think it is an appropriate encouragement during the holidays for men as well as women. When a woman becomes pregnant the fetus is surrounded by amniotic fluid or in layman’s terms - water. Many believe that creating amazing things happens near water because the fetus grows or develops surrounded by water. It is a natural creative incubator. Along with frequent labor pains, another indication that the infant is getting ready to be born is a woman’s water breaking or releasing. In the spirit, your water has broken. You are about give birth to something great!

Mary is a great example of a woman who gave birth to a great man, Jesus Christ. Mary didn’t feel that she was qualified to give birth to something Godordained. Mary wasn’t even sexually active. How could she give birth to anyone let alone someone and something divinely powerful? God knew her thoughts and sent the angel Gabriel to remind her of her identity. Gabriel tells Mary, “thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.” (vs 28). As you give birth to greatness, know your identity. Gabriel told Mary she was not just favored but highly favored. You are not just favored but highly favoured. God thought highly enough of you to deliver greatness in the Kingdom through you.

The amniotic fluid has many purposes. One of the main purposes of the amniotic fluid is to protect the fetus while in the womb from external forces. An example of external force would be the woman accidentally getting hit in the abdomen. Remember we mentioned amniotic fluid in layman’s term is water. Water is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. Once you accept Christ as your personal Savior there’s an indwelling of the Holy Spirit. So, what you are carrying is already being protected by the Holy Spirit. The ammonitic fluid/Holy Spirit protecting you from external forces is why the greatness you are carrying survives even when life is throwing hard knocks. I know you thought your dream or vision was going to die because of life challenges. However, it was always being protected by the Holy Spirit.

Mary was blessed among women. More importantly, she was approved and accepted by God. Please understand that you’re accepted and approved by God to give birth to greatness. Yes, your dream, your vision is great; and it is of God. Don’t worry about who accepts it. God has already placed His stamp of approval on it. It will be blessed in front of the audience that God ordains it to be.

While many will encounter these words during the last quarter, months 11-12 of the year; I want you to know it’s your ninth month. Labor pains are intensifying, and your water has broken. Right about now it may seem like all hell is breaking loose. If it’s not one thing it’s another. You even feel like in this season you’ve developed some new enemies, some may have been friends or favorable associates before. It’s labor pains. It’s imperative to remember in this season, although the pain may be intensifying and great, it’s not about you, but what’s about to be birthed. You will not abort this dream/vision! Remember you’re not wrestling “against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:12 KJV) The devil doesn’t want to see you give birth. Disregard his desires. Remind the devil of his identity. He is the father of liars. He is fallen from grace, and the power within you defeats anything he can bring against you. It’s time to utilize your spiritual weapons and wage war against every demon that’s coming against the successful delivery of your dream and vision. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” Now that your enduring the pain and the water has broken, it’s time to P.U.S. H. (position, upwards, shifting, hope). Usually, when it’s time for the woman to push her position is changed. She either is leaning forward or the head of the bed is being pushed forward. She also shifts her hope to the healthcare professionals. She is trusting that as she pushes, they will deliver the baby without any difficulties. Yes, it’s time to move. It’s time to let go of the past and move upwards. It’s time to shift your hope to the God of hope. You lost your hope during the pregnancy because things didn’t turn out the way you wanted. Somewhere in the pregnancy you began to place your hope in other people, places and things. Shift your hope to God! I am reminded of the words of hymn so many of us have sang in church in and in personal times of sorrow, “my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Christ, my righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”

Secondly, Gabriel told Mary not to fear. You must have NO FEAR in this season! Tell, yourself, “I am not going to fear in this season!” The enemy wants your fear to cause paralysis. He wants you to be afraid, so you won’t be able to P.U.S.H. Fear distracts you in a birthing movement from speaking, declaring and commanding those things that aren’t as though they are. Your faith is not only the evidence of things not seen, it is a critical tool that you must use as you push and breathe through the birthing of your destiny. I decree and declare you will not be afraid of people, success, lack, challenges, rejection, or failure. God hasn’t given you the spirit of fear but of power love and of sound mind. NO, FEAR! You’re rising above fear of past failures and you will be successful in all you are called and anointed to do without fear of success. Lastly, Mary’s impossibility became possible. There’s nothing impossible with God! Your dream and vision are being birthed! You may be looking at a long list of obstacles: age, finances, naysayers, unfamiliar territory, family disapproval, discouragement of friends, what seems like inexperience, professional competition and the list goes on. But, with God, nothing shall be impossible. Remember you are God’s creation and His responsibility. What He has put in your spirit must manifest! You must believe it, speak to it daily, and trust that it is so. Though it may tarry, the dream and vision are coming! In closing, Mary was chosen to carry the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. What if Mary would’ve decided not to believe Gabriel, but live life as if she wasn’t carrying greatness? What if she would’ve decided the persecution, thoughts and opinions of others were too much? What if she would’ve decided not to P.U.SH.? Where would you and I be? The birth of Jesus set off a chain of historical events that included transformed lives, miracles, assassination of demonic forces, deliverance of generational and other curses, and so much more; most importantly salvation. Who are you giving birth for? Who is the dream and vision you are carrying designed to transformed? What happens if you decide to give up before you give birth? Don’t let the labor pains stop you! God is fully aware and fully present. I am thankful that Mary gave birth to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Allow her to be your inspiration during this Christmas season to give birth - your water has already broken! Have a Blessed Christmas Season!

MONEY MATTERS Bills, bills, bills, bills again and more bills. What are all the bills for? Credit card? Mortgage? Paying back loans? Did you fall for the last advertisement that prompted on your computer’s screen while you were checking your email? “EXCLUSIVE: Get the latest iPhone 11 Pro for only fifty dollars per month” and signed in without double checking if your current phone had reached the end of its life? The truth is many of us fall for this type of adverts an only give it a second thought after we have signed for it. The impatience and eagerness coupled with the hunger not to lose a “good deal” makes us fail to read the small scriptures no one ever read. However, that’s where the truth of what seems to be the best deal of your life lies. Let’s be honest; a merchant will never sell if he doesn’t make any profit and by profit l mean any form of profit. So, where is the trap? The truth is, money management is not a one-time task that

Take Back Your Finances Nathalie Abomo

you can do at a certain time. It is a day to day effort that you put to know exactly what you put your money in. It is especially important to keep track of what is done with the money. The word of God says 3 John 1: 2 “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”[1]; the amplified version reads “Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].” It is the will of God that his own prosper in all aspects of their lives. God wants us to be prosperous because our wellbeing is his concern as our Father. Financial struggles can cause a whole lot of stress that a proper management can avoid. Finances are one of the areas that bring stress to most people. According to a new survey by Ramsey Solutions, “The number one issue couples fight about is also a topic many couples avoid discussing — money. Money fights are the second leading cause of divorce behind infidelity. Results show that both high levels of debt and a lack of communication are major causes for the stress and anxiety surrounding household finances.” Our father wants to save us from getting there. There are simple commandments that we can follow to avoid getting confused when it comes to money. In proverbs 22:7, we are advised that the “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” Which side of the wall do you want to be on? The ruler or the servant. The truth is, no situation is permanent; if you are in a bad financial state, you can clear the rubble of debt and start living debt free. God is able to do that for us because he tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:8 that “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” amplified version says “And God is able to

make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely selfsufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.” Let’s break this down. The verse says “God is able to” what do you know about the capacity of God? Does it depend on external circumstances like humans’ capacity? Is it limited to some situations? Does it have an expiry date or is it limited in stock? To all the above questions, we can boldly answer NO!!!! The reason why we can be sure of that answer is the conviction we get from the Bible. It tells us in Luke 18: 27 “And he said, the things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” What might seem impossible to you today is possible with God. He has given us the promise of a prosperous life and the assurance of the availability of the financial freedom. Let’s examine some tips to clear the debt and move towards a debt -free life: The first fundamental step is to know exactly what your situation is. To do so, take some time and draw a table. List your assets and your liabilities. Identify the total of amount of your liabilities. Then rank them according to the amount from least to most important (generally it will be paying off credits). To get out of debt, it is important not to add liabilities. So, you should consider paying cash instead of pulling out the card. If you can’t pay cash, don’t buy it. One of the reasons our indebtment level increase so fast is the variety of easy payment methods that exist nowadays. If you had to save to buy something, or if you still had to stick to the cash balance in your wallet, I can bet you would not spend so easily. Therefore, a move forward to a better money management is to pay cash.

18 Jackie Beck, the designer of the awardwinning Pay Off Debt app says “ The most important step is to only spend the money you already have. The rule is that you can buy or do anything you want or need, so long as you have the money for it first. Building up an emergency fund and having enough insurance are key to making that happen.” With this in your mind, consider the table of your liabilities. Start paying the least amount first. Every month set a fixed amount you want to pay of the debts (normally there is a monthly minimum you must pay. Either the bank takes it from your account, or you need to do the wire transfer). So, pay all the small debts. When the smallest amount is paid off, add the sum you paid for it to the amount you pay for the second debt on your list. You will be paying the same amount each month, but the second debt will be paid off faster. And so, it goes; when the second debt is paid off, you can proceed to add the amount to the fixed amount you pay for the third and so on and so forth. This process will take time; but always remember you didn’t get there in one day. It will take some time to get out of it; but consistency will get you there. This method is called the debt snowball method. While reducing your indebtment, you should also make sure you maintain the level of your income and seek to increase it. I once came across a tweet that made much sense to me. It said: “if you worked every single day, making five thousand dollars per day, from the time Columbus sailed to America, to the time you are reading this tweet, you would still not be a billionaire. No one works for a billion dollars.” If you want to become a billionaire, don’t look for a second or third or fourth job. No. instead make the money you already have work for you. This is easier than it sounds. Investing makes your money bring you more money. The key is to create as much passive income sources as possible. The first reflex would be to open a savings account, but it might not be the best advice. Robert G. Allen, an American businessman and Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania once asked "How many millionaires do you know who have become wealthy by investing in savings accounts? I rest my case.” A savings account might seem as a sure bet and can turn out to be safer as an emergency fund regardless of its low interest rates. If you decide to invest, there is a palette of options. To start somewhere, set an automatic plan that would make you put money aside each day. Use this as a springboard while you learn more about safe yet productive investment plans.

The Principle of Tithing & Giving Live with expectancy by giving.

Vernita C. Williams, Esq., Associate Pastor of Stewardship, New Birth Baptist Church Cathedral of Faith International

Nationally known Pastor John Hagee once said Debt, D-E-B-T, stands for: Doing Everything But Tithing! Are you a tither? If not, do you feel that you have suffered any consequences for not tithing? If you tithe, do you really feel that tithing is benefiting you? If the truth were told, most Christians would have to admit that the benefits of the spiritual discipline of tithing appear to be seldom received and in most cases are completely misunderstood. When you fully understand what tithing does for you and how to appropriate the tithing blessing, you will experience more confidence in God’s methods and more blessings as a believer. God has given specific promises to the tither. These promises are confirmed in his Word. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meet in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing; that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field saith the Lord of hosts. And all nations shall call you blessed, for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:10-12 In this section of scripture, God promises some very key and distinctive things. God promises wisdom, opportunities, protection, and prominence. Let’s get full understanding out of each promise, doing so allows us to glean the abundance that is ours to have.

"Experience more confidence in God's methods and more blessings as a believer." Wisdom. An open window gives access. When God opens His windows to you as He talks about in Malachi 3:10, He is giving you access to His blessings. When God opens His windows to you as a tither, you access God’s portals of wisdom. This wisdom provides the know how to deal wisely in the daily personal and business affairs of life. I Kings 3: 4-15 confirms this truth; revealing that God granted Solomon wisdom after he gave 1000 offerings. James 1: 5-6 says God will give you great wisdom too if you ask for it and then believe for it. Opportunities. Malachi 3:10 says God will pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive. Not having room enough to receive is a sign of a capacity problem. For instance, if you own a business, you may not have room enough to receive new customers if you don’t have enough employees to serve them. What God is talking about, logically, is not money, because certainly we all have room enough to receive some more money. This passage is talking about not having room enough in the form of space, resources, human help, or understanding to take advantage of all the opportunities to make money. You must understand that “the blessing” is not always money, it is often the opportunity to make money. In Deuteronomy 8: 18, God says He gives the power or opportunity to get wealth. We often overlook the words power to get and just read or hear God gives wealth – but seriously notice that the verse really does not say God gives wealth. It says He gives the power to get wealth – which means that there is a mindset, attitude and action you must take as a believer to receive that available wealth.

"Your prominence will be evident to others." This notion is further supported in Joshua 1: 8 where you will find the scriptural teaching indicating that when you obey God’s Word, you will make your own way prosperous and have good success. Protection. Another promise, this one found in Malachi 3: 11, is God’s Protection. While you are making your way prosperous, God says He will rebuke the devourer so that your efforts, your plans, and your business will not be destroyed. That means God will serve as your bodyguard protecting the assets that He has positioned you to access. Prominence. Not only does God give the tither wisdom, opportunities and protection, God grants the tither prominence. God says the tither will be viewed by others as blessed and delightsome. Your prominence will be evident to others. With these promises assured, you now must make a conscious decision to do something - tithe and give offerings faithfully. Turn away from those who will try to convince you that tithing is a simple church fundraising scheme or just some way to line the preachers’ pockets. The wisdom, opportunities, protection, and prominence that God talks about are for you. So, pity the one that does not want you to receive what God has for you and move forward in walking in His promises. Rev. Vernita C. A YEARLONG PLAN TO SAVE, INVEST, AND GENERATE ADDITIONAL REVENUE By Merrie Allmon Allen

The beginning of a new year causes us to reflect on areas of our lives where we know we can do better. One area that stands tall over most is the area of our personal finances. Instead of commiserating on what didn’t work so well last year, you can walk confidently into the new year with hope and a plan. Luke 14:28 asks, “Which of you desiring to build a tower does not first sit down and count the costs, whether he has enough to complete it?” This one-year financial wellness plan will ensure that next year’s reflection will bring only good vibes! January/February Create your financial goals for the new year. Do you want to get out of debt? Buy a newer car? Increase your giving? Whatever it is that you hope to accomplish, write it down. Be specific in identifying your goals, the steps you’ll take to achieve them, and commit to a realistic deadline. Review your budget to make sure your line items reconcile with your goals. If your goal is to get out of debt, your budget should include enough funding in your line item for debt reduction. Focus this month on tightening up your budget and adjusting where necessary. And treat yourself to a little chocolate for Valentine’s Day!

Merrie Allmon Allen is a Certified Educator of Personal Finance, founder of Money Management Wisdom LLC, and author of “Money Management Wisdom for Millennials” and “Money Management Wisdom: 8 Steps to Living Your Best Life.” ww.MoneyManagementWisdom.net

March/April Review contributions to your retirement plans. The Economic Policy Institute reports that nearly half of American families have no money saved for retirement. How will your life change once you no longer have your working income? If your job has a retirement savings program such as a 401(k), make sure you are contributing at least 15% of your income and taking advantage of the company match. Don’t leave free money on the table. Contact a fiduciary certified financial planner to learn about retirement saving options that fit your desired retirement lifestyle. Consider the ant in Proverbs 6:8 who gathers his food in the summer so that when winter comes, he will have food. Winter (retirement) is coming. Will you be prepared? April is financial literacy month. Take a class, attend a seminar or workshop, or read a book to increase your knowledge of money matters. It’s also a great time to do some spring cleaning and get organized. Shred any financial documents and old receipts that are no longer relevant. If you do not have an emergency fund, start one this month with a goal of initially saving $1,000 for the car repair, broken water heater, or another mishap that is sure to happen. An easy way to start your emergency fund is to sell stuff. Have a garage sale or list unwanted items on eBay.

MAY/JUNE Merry Christmas! Oh wait—it’s summer. And there’s no better time to start working on your Christmas list. Start carrying that list in your purse or wallet and watch for things that would make the perfect gift for someone on your list. You will save money by not being rushed or tempted by the glitz of prepackaged gifts that start showing up after Halloween. You are halfway through the year. Now is a good time to review your goals. How are you tracking? If you find yourself falling short of meeting your financial goals, make the necessary adjustments to your budget to get back on track. What areas can you cut back to increase your savings or pay more on debt?

JULY/AUGUST Ahhh . . . the dog days of summer. Save money this year by taking a staycation. Discover interesting hidden destinations in your own backyard. Unplug at a cabin in the mountains or on the beach. Act like a tourist. Check out the tourist destinations in your geographical area that you take for granted. When I was younger, I lived 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. I never fully appreciated it until I visited with my new husband and toured it as a “visitor.” It was amazing!

Following this annual plan of financial actions ensures that you’ll have all your financial bases covered.

December 2019 Issue 01 | 27

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER If you are falling short on funds or want to expedite your debt repayment plan, now is the perfect time of the year to get a part-time job. Businesses are now hiring for the holiday season. If you didn’t get the chance to take that summer staycation and you need a break. Take a mini vacation during this off-season. Hotel rates and packages are less expensive.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER As you approach the end of the year, now is the time to review your life insurance policies. Have you had any major life events that may require additional or decreased coverage? If your children are grown and financially independent, could you reduce your coverage and redirect the money saved on premiums to your retirement savings? This is the season when we celebrate the birth of the beautiful gift of Jesus Christ. Celebrate by looking for opportunities to give to those in need, as well as those not in need. My mom used to say to me, “Merrie, it’s just nice to be nice.” She was a giver at heart. When you give, financially or otherwise, do so without any expectation of reciprocation. What charities can you help? Can you be a bigger blessing to your church by increasing your giving? We know that giving is as much a part of financial planning as saving and investing. For it is true that we reap what we sow. As a giver, God has promised that you will always have the provisions you need. Why? So that you can continue to be a generous giver.

TRANSITION: CHOICES, CHANGES AND CHALLENGES I have always been a presidential history buff. The White House and its many occupants have so intrigued me over the years. What is most impressive about the presidency is how the institution is designed to pass from one duly elected leader to the next. An essential component to the process is the clear and concise understanding that one president's time for leading a nation, shaping world history, and affecting domestic/international long-term policy, has now come to an end. The existence of this fact is not enough if it is not accompanied by its twin, called acceptance. I recall one of the most touching moments that I have ever witnessed on the morning of January 20, 2001. That day, President William Jefferson Clinton departed the White House for the final time as our country's leader. Traditionally, before leaving, presidents leave notes of encouragement and advice to their successor, a tradition President Clinton upheld.

There is also invisible element to ministry that you and I will never understand. It involves the incalculable relationships that you and I have developed over the span of our lives. The people that you have been able to reach, empower, and encourage, also have a sphere of influence and friendship circles that you will never experience. So now, what begins to happen is the equivalent of what I call the 'Spiritual Domino Effect.' When we line up appropriately with God's will for our lives, then those persons that we have direct interaction with become beneficiaries of our obedience. Not only do the blessings pass from person to person but our families and communities are also strengthened in the process. Remember, singular obedience will always yield plural reward. When perfectly aligned dominoes fall in designed succession, each is 'touched' indirectly by the initial domino in that row. When we fall in line and adhere to the 'Master's -Master Plan', we become the catalyst to others also being introduced to and experiencing God's ongoing favor, even during periods of unfamiliarity and transition. Soon after the presidency was transferred to incoming president, George Walker Bush, President Clinton, his wife, Hillary and their daughter, Chelsea, sped off to Andrews Air Force Base. As president, he habitually, boarded Air Force One, the official presidential air transport. That day, as Citizen Clinton', he boarded a benign U.S. Government aircraft whose mission was to transport him to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. The code name was titled by the Air Force as 'Special Air Mission 28000.' With the niceties and the elaborate trappings of the Oval Office in his rear-view mirror, President Clinton remarked, "Now we have to go on to the next part of our lives." He continued, "Maybe for the first time in eight years I'll be in the driver's seat in a lot of ways I wasn't before." With those words, the youngest president since Theodore Roosevelt left office. As he climbed the plane's stairs to the top, he turned and waved to supporters, disappearing not only into its entryway but also into the annals of history. This scene, which has been repeated time and again throughout presidential history, even with President Barack Obama and then incoming President Donald Trump, is merely an example of what each of us has had to endure many times over in our respective lives..........TRANSITION. While some view the wholesale changes that litter the landscape of their lives as negative, God's outlook is altogether different. Change is good primarily because it affords Him the opportunity to purge an entity/person of its outdated ways, jaded personalities, and complacency. Often, we can be in place or hold a position for so long, that we become cynical about our mission and thus our ability to carry forth that which God has entrusted to us is negatively impacted. How we greet and adapt to change may determine whether God's next assignment in our lives will manifest. Often transition causes us to wrestle with and reassess our past productivity. Accomplishments measured in the form of statistics can sometimes be misleading because they fail to take into consideration the human element, which is a significant part of ministry.

"Singular obedience will always yield plural reward." Elder George Fishburne, Jr.

Always know that the collective force of our trials and life experiences that attempt to elicit fear from us, are hardly a match for the supernatural and timely saving power of our God. Because God has deposited so much in us, He has made it clear that He intends to see it through. The Amplified Bible translation of Philippians 1:6 says; "And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you." A good friend and powerful young preacher in his own right, Minister Tariq Craig of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania once prayed these words: "Seasons should not only lead us to new levels but also to new dimensions. New levels can be reached with our power, but new dimensions are only within the reach of our God!" Remember that no season is ever larger than the whole. The many seasonal transitions that await each of us are not our enemies, but our friends. When we greet them with open arms and fervent prayer, they can only work in our favor.

CREATE A NEW YEAR PLAN: Mind & Body Some of the most common new year plans include going to the gym, losing or gaining weight, and getting healthy. However, most people fail to accomplish their goals and are off to the next thing before the end of the first quarter. Research shows that only 8% of people fulfill their New Year’s resolution because they stick to their plans and did not give up.

What is mind and body connection? There is a great impact on our attitude, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings on our biological functioning. They can positively or negatively affect our biological functions. That’s what mind and body connection is all about. It is true to say that our state of mind can determine the health of our bodies.

In most cases, choosing or aiming for the wrong things is the major cause of failure. There is a strong connection between your mind and body. If your mind is not ready to do something, then your body won’t make it. So, instead of focusing on developing physical strength, one must go for building mental strength.

In the same way, our physical activities, such as exercise, posture, eating patterns, sleeping, can impact our mental state in a positive or in a negative way. That shows the complicated relationship between our body and mind.

Building mental strength is the key to perseverance, grit, gratification, and self-discipline. The chances of your success are higher if you are mentally strong enough to set your goals and by putting in the efforts to accomplish them.

Things to do for making your new year plan successful Follow these steps to fulfill your new year plans by involving your mind and body. Accept failure It is the first step in the journey if you want to go big and achieve something extraordinary. Accept the failure and note down the reasons for failure. Try to find the answers. Learn the lesson from failure quickly and move on powerfully.

Anticipate problems Identify potential problems ahead of time that might derail your plan. For instance, if you have two children who are athletes – practice and games – may not support the idea of you working out five nights a week, but you can modify the schedule based on their off season. Plan ahead Prepare! Whether it is for weather changes that might be rerouting walking or running courses. Or packing an extra bag of workout clothes each morning. It will mean meal planning and advance dish preparation. Try using a planner specifically for your New Year You to help keep you organized. Practice Patience To keep patience is the most difficult task for many people. However, without patience, you cannot achieve anything. If you are working to achieve a goal, then you must have patience until you done it successfully. Anything involving correcting old habits requires the tenacity to do it over again; then do it over again and do it once more until it becomes second nature. That’s progress and patience. Physical exercise Physical activity is essential. During physical exercise, you use your muscles that help your mind to keep you fresh and alert. Physical exercise helps you to bring more blood and oxygen to the brain. Nourishing your brain with blood and oxygen improves the functioning of the brain. Exercise also helps in the development of new nerve cells that increase the connection between brain cells. That also increases the performance and efficiency of the brain.

GREENLEAF, SAINTS & SINNERS: WHAT TV SHOWS ARE EXPOSING IN CHURCHES AND THE KINGDOM

by Nina McCray

Many TV shows expose truths about the gospel within a ministerial setting like Greenleaf and Saints and Sinners. Although they are vital elements within these TV shows that highlight the positives in walking a faith journey. Many factors may deter skeptics and unbelievers from considering pursuing a relationship with God or from attending a local church. We All Fall Short Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” We can all agree that we are human, and our humanity is wired with defective tendencies. Although, in theory, we are all aware of our flawed nature, we judge others harshly when we witness their sin and witness their shortcomings. Especially if he or she is a minister of the word of God. Due to this, television shows that reveal the ins and outs of what occurs within Christians, families will experience an impact on one of two extremes. Either people understand that ministerial title is not a shield from falling short of God’s glory. Or people are just appalled and can perceive the church as counterfeit. Impact on Non-Believers The television show, Greenleaf, is more about doing whatever it takes to have power and money than it is about Jesus. Saints and Sinners is also another television show that contains drama, like Greenleaf, surrounding the topic of faith and church. In these television shows, there is more emphasis on downfalls rather than the good about having faith. Faith is seen as more of a title than it is something beneficial.

There are already skeptics and nonbelievers that are uninterested in attending church or are completely adamant about discounting the reality of God. Are we Saints and Sinners? The answer is yes. We are both flawed and have been sanctified through the blood of Christ. And in sanctification, we are in a position of becoming and transitioning into that righteous individual. This concept is difficult to understand by someone that hasn’t had an encounter with God and the gospel of Jesus. Therefore, if an unbeliever watches a show like Greenleaf or Saints and Sinners, the takeaway message will be: “there is no such thing as a good church.” Or that good church people don’t exist, and faith doesn’t work because it’s not provoking real change in anyone.”

Portrayal of God Do TV shows like Greenleaf and Saints & Sinners portray the love of God? The answer is, it’s questionable. These shows do not represent the reality of God’s love and His righteousness concerning ministry. Although they contain redeeming moments of repentance or reveals a heart that feels guilt or remorse over actions that go against God’s mandates. However, on a television show such as Greenleaf there is an extreme emphasis on sin, status, and power instead of the love of God. There is more of a desire to uphold a status within the Christian community than there is about evangelism and emanating who God is onto others. When demonstrating the gospel via a television show, it’s essential to have a balance. To describe real-life issues welcomes relatability. So, it’s understandable how people can not only be attracted to these types of drama, but people can also identify with real-life scenarios. Putting the scenarios aside and the sin that exists in each of the characters that make part of both casts to Greenleaf and Saints and Sinner, these shows highlight the ugly truths about life in the ministry. It’s all about lies, envy, power, greed, and hate. Such programming should shed light on the reality that many people live honorable lives as they fight the good fight of faith. These shows seek to magnify the bad and the ugly, more than it is about the merciful and transformational aspect of who God is in others. The Gospel Do some churches experience a scandal? Yes. Is there sin within the church? Yes. But the truth is that there are churches that do their diligent work on serving others and bringing people to develop a relationship with God. What lies at the core of the gospel of Jesus Christ? Redemption and access. When a believer walks in redemption and is committed to a relationship with God, there is change. Transformation is inevitable. Why can’t these shows highlight the reality of a transformed heart through conversion? Jesus Christ died for us so that we may have forgiveness of our sins. However, that forgiveness gave us access to the Father, and that’s where the true gospel is born, in relationship with God. Kingdom Impact Many refer to the church as the kingdom of God. A place where God reigns, but if a place where God reigns is portrayed as only flawed, then it stops being attractive to those who desire to change in their lives. It becomes unattractive to those individuals considering turning to faith as the anecdote. We must understand one thing. God loves us so much that He couldn’t live without being outside of intimacy with His creation, and that love was so strong that He gave up His son to die for us. This core message is the gospel. God’s love for His creation, but its disregarded in shows like Greenleaf and Saints and Sinners. Shows like these have a direct negative impact on the kingdom message, and instead it may discourage people from turning to the faith. As Christians, we must defend our faith in the face of disproportioned showcasing of the gospel. 1 Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But to this with gentleness and respect.

The Number One Secret for Beautiful Table Decor by Judy Hardaway

Decorating your table for Christmas can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make it. But, there is one primary secret to Christmas table decorations you should always follow. By adhering to this simple secret, it will make your table décor far more appealing while at the same time making your job easier. By ignoring this concept your table-decorating plan can completely fall apart. So, what’s the secret? Well it’s simple. All you have to do is decide upon a specific color theme and design theme, then stick to it. Let me explain…Do you want a particular color or colors? People, who especially love Christmas, still rely on the old standbys. I will admit that red, green, white, gold and silver are still my favorites and probably always will be. Perhaps you’re in the mood for a wintery look. Simple. Just use white, blue, light shades of purple and you’re on your way. Along with candles you can add ornamental snowflakes, little snowmen, or strands of clear beads or snowy white garlands. If you have a color scheme in your home that you would like to play off of, then that can make it even simpler. You can always find candles, ribbons, napkins, beads, etc. online or at the store. Add touches of winter greenery or tiny Christmas trees to solidify the look. A Christmas wreath laid in the center of the table can be the beginning of a perfect centerpiece. It can be decorated with any object you may want to use as a theme. If you have no theme in mind other than something special, then ribbons and bows can always come to the rescue. Inside the wreath, place a large candle or several tapers. The tapers can be the same height or differing heights. The choice is yours. Just make certain that the flames or hot wax do not come in contact with anything that could cause a fire.I was at a dinner party once where that happened. We certainly had a lively Christmas party that night!

Hurricane lanterns placed in a row down the center of the table can take the place of a traditional centerpiece. Stemware filled with beads, nuts, berries, glass marbles, or any small festive objects can be used as well. You can use themed pieces to decorate in between. We’ll use Christmas bells as our example of a theme. Bells can be purchased in packages or they can be purchased already strung on wire. If they are on wire, they can be wrapped around the base of the hurricane lanterns, or you can attach them to ribbon and wrap the ribbon around the lanterns. Long strands of ribbon and beads can flow around the decorations. Continue to carry out your theme with your table napkins. Use two napkins of different colors for each place setting. Place one napkin on top of the other. You can roll them separately or roll them together, but the important thing is to tie them together. Tie them with a beautiful wired ribbon with the bell attached to the ribbon. Because wired ribbon can be shaped, it is easy to make the perfect size napkin holder. With your napkins inside your ribbon napkin holder, artfully arrange them and place them in the center of each plate. You now have bells on your napkin holders and bells on your table decorations. You can continue the theme with bells tied to the backs of chairs, hanging from the chandelier or attached to your stemware. The idea is to repeat your color or decoration. By using a theme, your Christmas table decorations will go from ho-hum to spectacular! Happy decorating. MAY HOPE BE YOUR CONSTANT COMPANION IN THE

New Year

Be comforted and assured in His love through these scriptures!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven. (Philippians 3:13-14, NLT) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (1 Peter 1:3, NIV) The unfailing love of the LORD never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, "The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!" (Lamentations 3:22-24, NASB) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV) Yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. (Isaiah 40:31, NASB) He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
