Dawn of an Evil Power By: Ian C. Glover
The end of the Second World War came to a sickening halt, as the greatest crime against humanity was unleashed on innocent men, women and children-‐not soldiers! August 6th, 1945 and August 9th, 1945. Detonation of the atomic bomb. Birth of the nuclear age! 60,000 feet of insanity from the Enola Gay. Why did we bring upon such evil? The unjustifiable bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was military centered, inhumane and morally wrong. Let us begin with the military centered side of it. The U.S. military is based off revenge, glory and blood. Not humanity. In order to beat Adolf Hitler’s Nazi’s they were in a race to discover ultimate destruction. The world now has murder boiled down to a science and an art. In their opinion, fight fire with fire. Last time I checked, you fight fire with water, according to the fire department. When we completed the Manhattan Project, ze Germans were already surrendering, so Japan was the final Axis Power to be defeated. It was clear: negotiation had failed, since the patriotism of Japan is the astonishing “no surrender, TO the death”. For the sake of Pearl Harbor and to save more American and Japanese lives, we took the evil and simple solution: drop the atomic bomb! And we did, twice, without remorse. The pilot was happy, drugged with military propaganda of the inhumanity of the Japanese people. The passengers were horrified though on the way back. No one spoke about it, that’s how terrifying a holocaust is. The sad thing is, military revenge is not enough to justify murder in the name of patriotism. On top of this military decision, it was an inhumane ending for a bloody war. The evils of the atomic age cannot be justified anymore than justifying the Holocaust of Nazi Germany to 6 million Jews! Yes, the bombs had less death and quicker, but it is too much power to possess. And if it was necessary, then why not on a Japanese military base? Why on innocent turf? In every darkness there is light, just because you live in a country that is evil doesn’t mean you have their beliefs. The atomic bombing presented similar symptoms to Holocaust concentration camps survivors in MINUTES! We always hammer in our education never forget the Holocaust, but we never teach our children the inhumanities of the bomb. As Immortal technique once said in a controversial song called “The 4th Branch”, “And on top of that you still wanna take me to prison just cuz I won’t trade humanity for patriotism.” There’s not an excuse for killing the innocent, and that’s that! Till the end it was morally wrong/ Killing is one thing, since we do it all the time, but annihilating is another. The universe relies on balance and to maintain a balanced Earth, one does not annihilate a population. While trying to conquer evil you become evil by being desensitized to the violence inflicted. Where is the sanity in murder? Why don’t we cave anymore? So in the end, by bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we achieved the evil we tried to defeat for selfish military reasons. If we want a resolution, dismantle ALL nuclear weapons before we destroy ourselves.
