NEW PROGRAM

Love takes on all forms as GMA Network debuts its newest heart-warming primetime series, Onanay. Onanay tells the unique story of Onay, a woman born with Achondroplasia or a bone growth disorder which impeded her growth. Because of this, she is often the subject of ridicule but she chooses to remain positive in life. She gave birth to two beautiful daughters—Maila and Natalie—who cannot be more different from one another. Despite a tragedy and traumatizing events, Onay’s motherly love remains pure and unconditional, the way every mother is to her child. The series introduces new Kapuso, Jo Berry, who takes on the role of Onay. Despite her condition, she is loving, kind, warm towards everyone, and chooses to always look at the brighter side of things.

Love takes on all forms on GMA Network’s newest primetime series

Young and talented Kapuso actresses Mikee Quintos and Kate Valdez join together once more in headlining this drama as siblings Maila and Natalie, daughters of Onay. Maila is a perfectly cheerful and obedient daughter who is willing to stand up to anyone who makes fun of her mother. She dreams of graduating and giving her family a comfortable life. Natalie, on the other hand, is spoiled, arrogant, and thinks highly of herself. She is ashamed of her mother’s physical appearance, which is why she often takes out her frustration and anger on Onay. The show also features the very special participation of Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor as Nelia, Onay’s supportive mother who will do anything for her child. Joining them to play an equally important role is Ms. Cherie Gil as Helena, a former

The series is under the helm of esteemed director Gina Alajar with the creative team composed of creative director Roy Iglesias, creative head Richard Cruz, creative consultant Suzette Doctolero, headwriter Luningning Ribay, writers Obet Villela, Geng delos Reyes and Tina Samson-Velasco, and brainstormers Borj Danao and Brylle Tabora.

Barangay LS 97.1 DJs Share Their Own Theme Songs

D

ubbed as “Mr. Love Stories”, Papa Dudut is known for captivating the hearts of many listeners via his long-running show Barangay Love Stories. Spoken like a true romantic, he said that Jonas Blue ft. Jack and Jack’s new hit song ‘Rise’ is a current favorite because he thinks it’s the modern version of Phil Collins’ classic song ‘Against All Odds’. “Mas maraming makakarelate sa kantang ito especially kapag narinig mo na yung lyrics. Walang makapipigil sa true lovers!” he said. Meanwhile, when asked if they have their own theme song, Rivermaya’s ‘Umaaraw Umuulan’ is Papa Dudut’s pick. “Kahit ano pa ang pinagdadaanan mo, kasama mo si Papa Dudut in the ups and downs of your life,” he said.

M

ama Emma, on the other hand, gets a kick out of upbeat songs. Hailee Steinfeld’s ‘Capital Letters’ is always on her playlist during her daily train rides. “Para positive vibes lang, ‘yung tipong gusto mong yumakap sa makakasabay mo sa MRT,” she jested. Being the Barangay’s “Hugot Queen”, she proudly shares in her program Three Play Sayawan that she commutes every day just like them and that she gets hugot inspirations from the people she observes in public transportation. For Mama Emma, Zac Efron and Zendaya’s duet entitled ‘Rewrite the Stars’ in the hit musical “The Greatest Showman” speaks volumes. “I believe that you are the captain of your ship. Ikaw ang kapitan ng iyong kapalaran. Kapag alam mong nandyan na, kunin mo na,” the Hugot Queen urged.

For radio DJs, receiving song requests from listeners is an essential part of their job. Listeners would often request their favorite song or whatever tune they want to hear at the moment to pump up their day. Seemingly, everyone has their own interpretations and connection to certain songs. And Barangay LS 97.1 DJs Papa Dudut, Mama Emma, and Papa Obet are no exception.

P

apa Obet, also known on-air as “Mr. Love Songs”, mixes daydreaming with his playlist during his commutes to work. The favorite song that he imagines performing in front of a large crowd is his own version of ‘On the Wings of Love.’ “Sa imagination ko, ang saya ng feeling kapag sumasabay ang mga tao sa kinakanta mo at pumapalakpak at the same time.” He even admits to getting a little carried away and sings along before he realizes that he is on the bus with other passengers. A classic, Papa Obet chose ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ by R. Kelly which relays an inspiring message to believe in oneself. “Kapag bilib ka sa sarili mo at kinakaya mo, yung confidence mo, magagawa mo kung ano ang target mo,” he encouraged.
