MA Network is initially spending P416 million on transmitter facilities for its Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) project. The amount covers three high-powered transmitters and their related antenna and connectivity requirements, as well as a fully-mirrored head-end system, which is a master facility for grouping and digitally encoding programs. GMA is adapting the Japanese DTV standard or ISDB-T in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Telecommunications Commission. “Considering the increasing number of ISDB-T ready homes in the country, we are now prepared to exit the test phase and begin with the first part of our DTT rollout in Mega Manila. We are replicating the same level of superiority and consistency that we have exhibited

Earlier, at the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP) Digicon, GMA’s technology arm GMA New Media, Inc. (NMI) unveiled a prototype of the Network’s DTT product, which can function as both a receiver for digital television and a digital media set-top box. The device can enable digital broadcast services on analog TV while transforming the unit into a smart TV capable of playing on-demand content and running different applications. The Intellectual Property Office has issued a Certificate of Registration for the Utility Model application of the device. Gozon said that GMA’s DTT product will not only be different but better than what the competitor has introduced to the market.

Duavit Jr., “All technical back-end requirements related to the roll-out have long been ready, including the media asset management and broadcast automation systems. It will not be long before our DTT product is introduced to the market.”

GMA also strengthened its TV ratings lead in Urban Luzon, which represents 77 percent of the total urban TV household population in the entire country. Pass-A-Book ni BiGuel

DECEMBER 2016

ISSUE NO. 6 0

Miguel and Bianca Bond with School Kids in QC By Marie Louise Ligunas GMA Program Support Department

A

s part of their “Pass-A-Book ni BiGuel” advocacy project, Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix visited Project 6 Elementary School recently to celebrate the National Reading Month. They first read ‘Kapuso Mo, Atty. Felipe L. Gozon,’ the children’s book memoir of GMA Network’s Chairman and CEO, to the kids. They also facilitated a quick game, took selfies with the faculty and students, and received and distributed books. The project holds a special place in Bianca’s heart because she’s an avid reader herself. “Number one po sa priorities ko [‘tong Pass-A-Book] because I’m a reader. Reading is actually my life, so influencing kids na nakikita ko who enjoy and are happy na makita kami and marami silang natututunan sa ‘min, masarap sa puso,” she said. Miguel also highlighted the importance of reading among his peers and the younger generation. “Very important [‘to] dahil ‘yung panahon natin ngayon, ‘yung mga teenagers, mga bata, ang focus nila nasa mga gadget so Bianca and I, gusto namin i-promote

yung value of reading dahil iba ‘yung [knowledge] na makukuha mo kapag nagbabasa ka ng libro,” he shared. Reading is one of the activities that bring the two stars together. Miguel, in fact, got into it because of Bianca. The latter shared this piece of information in a casual conversation with the kids. “Kaming dalawa ni Kuya Miguel, mahilig kami magbasa. Actually dati, si Kuya Miguel, hindi talaga siya nagbabasa. Hindi niya hilig. Pero naimpluwensyahan ko siya. So ngayon, alam namin na puwede kami maka-impluwensya ng kabataan tulad niyo. Gusto namin i-share ‘yung pagmamahal namin para sa pagbabasa,” Bianca added. Principal Virginia Macapagal thanked GMA Network and BiGuel for helping her imbibe in the kids the value of learning through books. “Bilang isang punong guro na naglalayong mapabuti ang antas ng kaalaman ng mag-aaral, ako ay natutuwa na kayo ay aming katuwang sa adbokasiyang ito, dahil ang karunungan sa pagbabasa ay isang hakbang upang lalong mapalawak ang imahinasyon ng bawat mag-aaral patungo sa katuparan ng kanilang pangarap,” she declared.
