GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) cemented its status as the number one broadcast network in the country after concluding 2017 with a remarkable nationwide television ratings performance, based on full year data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. From January to December 2017 (with December 24 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA registered a winning average of 42.5 percent total day people audience share in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), ahead of ABS-CBN’s 36.8 percent. The Network was able to significantly widen its margin over competition in 2017 to an impressive 5.7 NUTAM people share points from its 0.2-share point lead in 2016. Moreover, GMA grabbed the total primetime lead in average 2017, expanding its leadership across all day parts. GMA likewise topped competition across all time blocks in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 76 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country. The Kapuso Network posted winning numbers in Urban Luzon, tallying 48.8
GMA, which consistently bested ABS-CBN in total day audience shares in all months of 2017, also garnered 44.3 percent versus the competitor’s 37.2 percent in December. The Kapuso Network further capped off a successful year by gaining a higher advantage of 7.1 points in its December share lead alone. Similarly, Urban Luzon continued to be GMA’s stronghold with the Kapuso Network garnering 49.5 percent in December compared to the Kapamilya Network’s 31.7 percent. Mega Manila (with official data from December 1 to 23) also remained GMA’s bailiwick with an average audience share of 52.7 percent versus competition’s 27.2 percent in December, posting bigger audience shares and lead margins year-onyear in all day parts.

Audience Measurement Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media. With approximately 900 more homes surveyed in Total Urban and Rural Philippines compared to Kantar, Nielsen data is statistically considered more representative of the total TV population. In 2016, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement increased its client pool to a total of 36 clients/ subscribers consisting of 12 local TV networks including TV5, Aksyon TV, CNN Philippines, Net 25, Solar Entertainment Corporation, Viva Communications Inc., among others; 5 regional clients; 2 blocktimers and 17 media agencies.

A Magical Journey Awaits Viewers in Sirkus Prepare to be spellbound by GMA Network’s newest adventure-filled fantasy series Sirkus, beginning January 21. Produced by GMA Public Affairs, Sirkus is a family-oriented program about fraternal twins Mia and Miko who find themselves in the company of a travelling circus called Sirkus Salamanca after escaping from the hands of an evil villainess. On the road, the twins discover secrets about their new-found family and their own identities.

GMA Network’s socio civic arm GMA Kapuso Foundation, Inc. (GMAKF), through the help of its key partners, recently launched the Kapuso Para sa Kawal project, which seeks to provide assistance to soldiers who sustained injuries during combat operations all over the country.
The project aims to serve amputee soldiers who fought terrorists and insurgents in 2017. This period covers the latest conflict in Marawi City. Kapuso Para sa Kawal aims to replace beneficiary soldiers’ lost limbs with prosthetics, rehabilitate them by providing thorough psychological and physical therapy which makes them ready both mentally and physically to use and maximize their new prosthetic limbs.
