GMA Network Rules Television Ratings in 2019 In December 2019 alone, GMA posted 33.7 percent total day people audience share in Urban Luzon as against ABSCBN’s 28 percent while GMA led by a bigger margin with 34.2 percent versus competition’s 26.4 percent in Mega Manila (with official data from December 1 to 21).
Award-winning magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) cemented its position as the mostwatched show nationwide in 2019. It also reigned supreme in Urban Luzon’s list of overall top programs for the previous year.

Building the momentum in the morning slot with 28.1 percent, GMA won against rival network’s 25.8 percent. This continued in the afternoon slot with GMA’s 36.7 percent versus ABS-CBN’s 30.9 percent. GMA further toppled its competitor in the evening block with 37.7 percent while ABS-CBN only got 31.9 percent.

o kick off the year-long celebration of its 70th anniversary, the Kapuso Network treated its loyal fans to an exciting merry-making event hosted by its brightest and biggest stars. GMA Network ushered in the New Year with a night filled with entertainment and festivities via the “The Kapuso Countdown to 2020: The GMA New Year Special” at SM MOA, Seaside Boulevard, Pasay City on Tuesday, December 31. Leading the grand celebration is Asia’s Multimedia Star and The Gift lead actor Alden Richards who turned up the party with high energy dance production numbers and serenaded the crowd with heartfelt melodies. GMA’s powerhouse vocalist and Asia’s Pop Diva, Aliw Awardee for Best Major Concert Female Performer Julie Anne San Jose delivered a hot and fiery opening number. apuso OST Princess Hannah Precillas took her passion for music to greater heights after winning 2nd runner-up at the Dangdut Academy (D’Academy) Asia 5 in Indonesia last December 29. The GMA Artist Center star raised the country’s flag in the international scene after capturing the hearts of the judges and the Indonesian audience with her singing prowess. She consistently wowed the crowd with her rendition of various Indonesian songs she performed throughout the competition. Among the 35 contestants from all over Asia, she consistently received top scores, becoming the lone Filipino and female contestant to compete in the grand finals.
“I always feel blessed for all the support. It’s a big accomplishment for me and it’s a great experience for me as a singer na ma-try din yung iba pang genre and to represent the Philippines sa international stage,” she said. Hannah, the winner of GMA’s talent competition Bet Ng Bayan in 2014, is the voice behind the well-loved theme songs of GMA entertainment programs Hahamakin Ang Lahat, Kambal, Karibal, Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka, Kapag Nahati Ang Puso, and Onanay.

A housewife studying to become a teacher is the winner of a new house from Unang Hirit’s “UH20:Bagong Bahay sa 2020.” She is 40-year old Jenny Cañaveral from San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Jenny is taking up Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She is married to Joeben Cañaveral, a construction worker, and they have two children: Jhaveson Mark and Jheawel Mae. Jenny’s letter is just one of thousands of letters received by Unang Hirit last December in celebration of the show’s 20th anniversary. The entries were screened and narrowed down. The finalists were judged based on the following criteria: story content (50%), emotional impact (30%), and clarity of the narrative (20%). Bria Homes President and COO Mr. Red J. Rosales to present the ceremonial key to the model house to Jenny and her family. Jenny will get to choose her new house from Bria Homes’ various locations so that they don’t have to live far from their current livelihood and their children’s present school. Aside from the new house, Unang Hirit also gave Jenny and her family a new television, refrigerator, microwave oven, sack of rice and a housewarming party. The awarding of the house and lot caps Unang Hirit’s celebration of its 20th year of providing news, entertainment and Serbisyong Totoo to its viewers.

The much-awaited reimagining of the classic film is headlined by two of the Network’s brightest stars–Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza as Ginalyn and promising young Kapuso actress Kate Valdez as Caitlyn. The drama also highlights Leyte’s iconic San Juanico Bridge and Ilocos Norte’s thrilling Paoay Sand Dunes.
Dina, who has no trouble speaking Ilocano after marrying a native, reveals why she opted to accept the role of Biday, “After a long time, Snooky and I will be working together again. I really welcomed it because I haven’t done comedy in a long time. Excited ako kasi kakaiba and I won’t have to cry buckets of tears.”
Barbie took classes to learn the Waray dialect and enjoyed immersing herself into their culture, “Tinuro sa amin how they live, kung papaano sila magtrabaho para sa family nila. Nakakatuwa kasi parehas na may strong personality ang mga taga-Leyte at Ilocos. Ang sarap gampanan ng role ko kasi very empowering siya especially sa mga kababaihan. Kilala ang mga Waray na palaban at hindi papatalo.” Kate says she’s happy to be working with Barbie for the first time in this soap, “Actually noong workshop pa lang, sobrang ramdam ko na very warm si Barbie. Naramdaman ko ‘yung care niya sa akin as an ate. Kaya excited ako na maka-work ko pa siya sa maraming eksena.” The drama also introduces the exciting reunion of seasoned actresses Snooky Serna as Amy and Ms. Dina Bonnevie as Sussie in their most colorful roles yet. Young Amy (Max Collins) the Waray from Leyte and young Sussie (Lovi Poe) the Biday from Ilocos are the best of friends. Amy works for Sussie’s rich Ilocano family based in Manila in exchange for the latter’s family funding her school expenses. Their inseparable bond is jeopardized when the dashing young Joaquin (Jason Abalos) captures the hearts of both women. After finding out that they have fallen in love with the same man, Amy and Sussie’s friendship is now in shambles and to make it worse–the two are bearing Joaquin’s children. Years passed, Amy’s (Snooky Serna) daughter Ginalyn (Barbie Forteza) grows up into a diligent and optimistic woman who juggles their Binagol business and her tour guide duties. Meanwhile, Sussie’s (Dina Bonnevie) prim and proper daughter Caitlyn (Kate Valdez) is a frustrated vlogger with dreams of making it big one day. Just as Amy and Sussie thought they have left their past behind, history repeats itself when their daughters cross paths and ironically become good friends.

arious Kapuso personalities were honored with their stars at the Walk of Fame located at the walkway of GMA Network Studios last December 12. The Kapuso Walk of Fame project, founded by the late Master Showman German Moreno, is meant to celebrate Kapuso personalities who have have greatly contributed in the fields of Entertainment and News and Public Affairs. The launch of the new batch of the Walk of Fame is an all-star spectacle graced by the presence of Carmina Villarroel, Aicelle Santos, Kris Bernal, Yasmien Kurdi, Bianca Umali , Miguel Tanfelix, and Roi Vinzon. Also present were GMA News and Public Affairs personalities Emil Sumangil, Lala Roque, and JP Soriano. Dramas Premiere in GMA Confirms Distribution GMA Malaysia and Myanmar Deal at Asia TV Forum 2019 G
MA Worldwide, Inc. brought two of its top-rating primetime dramas starring Barbie Forteza to Malaysia and Myanmar.
The romance comedy Meant To Be aired on Malaysia’s TV Okey starting December 23, 2019, Monday to Thursday, on the 12 Noon to 1 P.M. timeslot. In this program, four guys of different racial and cultural backgrounds fall in love with the same girl. They try to woo the girl by showing her different languages of love.

n a deal confirmed during the 2019 Asia TV Forum in Singapore, GMA Worldwide, Inc. entered into another partnership with Latin Media Corporation (LMC) to distribute three of its dramas in Latin America.
The Gift
Starring GMA’s top talent, Alden Richards, it tells the story of Joseph (Richards) who becomes a clairvoyant after a near-death experience.
For Love Or Money/ Dahil Sa Pag-big
For Love or Money tells the story of a wife who sacrifices her dignity to raise blood money and save her husband from the death row in the Middle East.
The Silent Thief/Bihag
Tells the story of a mother’s desperate efforts to find her kidnapped son. The dramas will be showcased by Latin Media in the 2020 edition of NATPE Miami on January 21-23. The ratings success of GMA dramas in Latin America including The Heart Knows/ My Special Tatay (Un Corazon Especial) and The Way To Your Heart/Onanay (El Amor Mas Grande) raised the demand for Filipino content in the region. The new deal between GWI and LMC hopes to further satisfy this demand with dramas that viewers can relate to and boost ratings for its broadcasters.
The 2019 fantasy drama Kara Mia airs daily on the MWD Documentary Channel beginning December 27 on its primetime block. Kara Mia was a viewer favorite and made the rounds on social media even before its launch on Philippine television. It tells the story of twin sisters who grow up as unique individuals, each with her own face and mind but who are trapped in one body due to a rare genetic malformation. Viewers were drawn to the curious premise of the series, and the dramatic portrayal of Barbie as Kara, and Mika Dela Cruz as her twin, Mia.
