BiGuel reads GMA Chairman & CEO life story by Trisha Macas/KG, GMA News
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/546218/lifestyle/artandculture/biguel-shares-attygozon-s-humble-beginnings-to-students-on-araw-ng-pagbasa
“Happy po kami sa mga bata na nabigyan namin ng books dahil hindi lang na may bago silang book, magkakaroon din sila ng friends mula sa ibang lugar,” Tanfelix said. “Napakasarap po sa puso kasi unti-unti na pong lumalaki ang advocacy naming Pass-a-Book ni BiGuel. Mas marami na po kaming batang napapasaya through books,” Umali added. November is National Reading Month and November 27 is “Araw ng Pagbasa” also stylized as “Araw ng Pag(b)asa.” Miguel Tanfelix and Bianca Umali with the kids of Commonwealth elementary school.
Kapuso teen stars Miguel Tanfelix and Bianca Umali (BiGuel to the fans of this young tandem) treated 150 elementary students of Commonwealth Elementary School to a storytelling session in celebration of the annual Araw ng Pagbasa. Tanfelix and Umali read the biography “Kapuso Mo, Atty. Felipe L. Gozon” published by Vibal as part of its young readers collection. The book is replete with life lessons that Atty Gozon has learned through the years, leading him to his current stature as the head of the most profitable broadcast network today.
6
An excerpt of the book reads, “Mahilig din akong maglaro tulad ng ibang bata. Nakapaglaro ako ng tantsing, trumpo, sabong ng gagamba, goma, teks, at iba pang laro ng mga bata noon. Pamilyar ka ba sa mga larong ito? Wala pang mga laro sa computer noon kaya kung ano ang mayroon sa paligid, iyon ang nilalaro namin.”
It is an event inspired by the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr., who turned to reading during his years of solitary confinement during the Martial Law era. Araw ng Pag(b)asa is held every year on Aquino’s birth anniversary since 2008. The Department of Education, as well as other government agencies, have organized reading activities in English and Filipino to mark the event.
After the storytelling session, the teen stars gave away books they have collected through their “Pass-a-Book ni BiGuel.” a CSR program spearheaded by the young stars that also push for reading by the exchange of pre-loved books. Tanfelix and Umali hope that through the books they have distributed, the studentrecipients will develop a deeper love for reading.

by JP Soriano/GMA News “I am prose And you are art. I am mind And you are heart. Love, this is how we’ll start.” (L-R) Mercator Artist and Model Management President/CEO Jonas Gaffud , GMA Artist Benjamin Alves,Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, Corporate Affairs AVP Ma Teresa L. Pacis and Senior AVP for Entertainment TV and Assigned Talent Manager Gigi S. Lara
Kapuso artist Benjamin Alves is the ambassador of GMA Network Excellence Award, GMA Network’s CSR program that lauds exemplary graduating students. Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes was the ambassador in 2014. “[I’m] very thankful to everyone [who] got me as an ambassador for GMA Excellence Award. It’s something na I was aware of [mula] nang nagsimula ang career ko sa GMA. It was something na I followed and [got] interested [in because of] the [people] and connection they have with schools,” he said in an interview with GMANetwork.com. In 2012, the hunk actor got in a scholarship program at the University of Guam where he finished his degree in English Literature in two and a half years as a summa cum laude. He described himself as a “nerd” in college and had a goal of excelling in his studies.
This educational background caught the attention of Corporate Affairs Assistant Vice President Ma. Teresa L. Pacis (TLP). She described the Beautiful Strangers star as the perfect role model in the program, “[He] is very much aligned with what we want to promote because GMA Network Excellence Award stands for making excellence as a way of life.” The GMA executive also praised the actor-TV host for being able to relate with the younger generation when he recently shared his educational experience with the interactive students of the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite.
These may sound like the lyrics of a popular song on the charts, but they are actually from “Start,” a short poem by Kapuso actor Benjamin Alves. Yes, Benjamin is not just a thespian but a passionate poet as well. On his Twitter and Instagram accounts is a link to his Tumblr account where most of his literary works are posted. Ben Alves admires the work of a wide range of poets, from Bukowski to Biggie. http://www.gmanetwork.com/ news/story/493270/lifestyle/ilook-forward-to-falling-in-loveand-writing-about-it-benjaminalves-on-poetry
The Kapuso star will be part of the panel wherein he will screen outstanding graduating students who demonstrated excellence in his/her respective field. He added, “It’s always nice when your hard work is recognized and is rewarded. Nakakatuwa naman na there’s still people striving for excellence. Hopefully, we get to screen all of them and pick the one that’s most deserving.”
