Atty. Felipe L. Gozon GMA Network employees hold a quarterly General Assembly with top management to know the latest company updates, developments and more. Following are Atty. Felipe L. Gozon’s remarks at the GMA Network employees’ Q3 General Assembly on November 19: Magandang hapon sa inyong lahat mga Kapuso!

As of November 19, 2012 ang sales natin sa GMA7 ay P908 million na as compared to P901 million for the whole month of November last year.

Ayon sa pinakahuling talaan as of September 2012, mayroon nang 324,000 subscribers ang GMA Pinoy TV, mas mataas ng 12% compared to last year. Samantala, may 122,000 naman ang GMA Life TV, angat ng 2% versus last year.

RATINGS UPDATE

GMA Network seals strong Q3 financial performance Reports P10.612 billion consolidated gross revenues for first 9 months

(L-R) GMA Top Executives: Executive Vice President and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon and GMA Marketing and Productions President Lizelle G. Maralag

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) reported strong financial results for the third quarter owing to increased advertising sales across its major revenue platforms. Consolidated gross revenues for the third quarter of 2012 reached P3.822 billion, reflecting a double-digit growth of 13 percent from the P3.384 billion recorded in 2011. Net income rose 9 percent to P573 million from P525 million in the previous year. The increase in Q3 earnings was driven mainly by the substantial growth in airtime revenues, which exceeded last year’s figure by 14 percent, or P443 million, to P3.537 billion. This brings the Company’s total gross revenues for the first nine months of 2012 to P10.612 billion, an increase of 5 percent or equivalent to at least half a billion year on year.

6

In the first 9 months of 2012, GMA’s airtime revenues grew 5 percent to P9.739 billion versus last year’s P9.253 billion. Parent company Channel 7 posted a 5 percent increase in airtime sales while leading local news channel GMA News TV grew its advertising revenues by 24 percent. Regional TV, on account of its aggressive expansion efforts, also improved its revenues from national and local sales by 24 percent. Radio, on the other hand, hiked up its earnings by 4%, surpassing last year’s solid performance. Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon said that the management is pleased with the Company’s third quarter financial performance and forecasted sustained revenue growth as political ads were expected to come in during the last quarter.

“Given the third quarter figures, we are optimistic that the fourth quarter will bring even better financial results as we expect political ads to further boost our earnings for the year,” Gozon said. Meanwhile, revenues from other sources for the nine-month period factored in an additional P873 million, 2 percent or P17 million higher than last year. GMA New Media, Inc.’s recently formed techno-creative unit Digify, Inc. generated more than half of the net increase in this revenue category. The subscriber base of GMA’s flagship international channel, GMA Pinoy TV, remained on the uptrend at 320,000 (or an estimated 2.1 million viewers), 12 percent higher year on year. GLTV, on the other hand, registered 121,000 (or an estimated 1.1 million viewers) subscribers, up 1 percent from last year. During the third quarter, GMA News

appreciation bonus for confidential employees contributed to this year’s rise in total operating costs.

Subscription and advertising revenues of GMA International, however, slightly dipped by 2 percent to P705 million from the previous year’s P719 million due to the appreciation of the Peso against the Dollar.

Nonetheless, given the spike in the topline, the Company’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the said period stood strongly at P3.040 billion, reaching a double-digit increase of 12 percent or P323 million year on year. Net income after tax settled at P1.587 billion, P7 million higher than last year.

Meanwhile, GMA Worldwide, Inc., the Network’s content acquisition and distribution subsidiary, generated USD 318,300 in the third quarter as it sold over 50 locally produced programs and movies to the US, Kenya, Tanzania, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei, and Myanmar. GMA managed to keep its total operating expenses over the ninemonth period to a low single-digit growth of only 4 percent or P258 million compared to the same period last year. This is despite the increase in depreciation expense attuned with the roll-out of the state-of-the-art Media Asset Management System (MAMS) late last year as well as the launch of two multi-million peso originating stations in Ilocos and Naga middle of this year. Amortization of program rights likewise soared as a factor of programming mix. Aside from these, increased manpower headcount and payout of the one-time signing bonus for rank and file employees and

GMA keeps nationwide ratings lead GMA Network maintained its overall advantage in NUTAM ratings in Q3 2012 with an average total day household audience share of 33.8 percent, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 32.6 percent average by 1.2 points, and TV5’s 15.1 percent by 18.7 points, according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data. GMA remained unrivaled and led across all dayparts in the viewer-rich areas of Mega Manila and Urban Luzon, which account for 59.5 and 77 percent, respectively, of total urban television households in the entire country. In Mega Manila, GMA garnered 38.7 percent in total day household audience shares, 12.2 points higher than ABS-CBN’s 26.5 percent and 23.5 points ahead of TV5’s 15.2 percent.

Similarly, GMA continued to lead in Urban Luzon with an average of 37.7 percent up by 9.4 points from ABSCBN’s 28.3 percent and by 23.2 points from TV5’s 14.5 percent. GMA kept its lead in nationwide ratings in October (October 28 to 31 based on overnight data) with an average total day household audience share of 33.3 percent, higher by 0.2-point over ABS-CBN’s 33.1 and by 17.4 points over TV5’s 15.9 percent. GMA likewise ruled in Mega Manila in the said month with 38.4 percent, 11.5 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s 26.9 points and 22.3 points ahead of TV5’s 16.1 percent. In Urban Luzon, GMA scored 37.4 percent, up 8.6 points from ABSCBN’s 28.8 points and up 22.0 points from TV5’s 15.4 percent.

Mike Enriquez and Mel Tiangco, GMA N&PA pillars and anchors of GMA primetime newscast 24 Oras, are the two most popular and top-of-mind Filipino anchors, each garnering a mean score of 4.7 points in the popularity category in national urban. Tiangco and another GMA N&PA pillar, Jessica Soho, had the highest mean scores in overall image of 4.6 and 4.5, respectively. Soho had the highest competence score of 4.7 followed by Tiangco (4.6) and Enriquez (4.6), along with other reporters and anchors from GMA including Vicky Morales, Arnold Clavio, Kara David, Susan Enriquez and Howie Severino.

A qualitative study conducted by Added Value Saffron Hill, a multinational research group that specializes in qualitative methods, ascertained that GMA’s quality programming and pool of reputable news and entertainment personalities are the main drivers of the Network’s ability to maintain its loyal viewers. This study made use of focus group discussions among habitual television viewers from key cities all over the country.

Among the infotainment hosts, Unang Hirit’s Drew Arellano, Love Añover and Suzie Entrata were the most “entertaining to watch” across national urban areas. Meanwhile, Marian Rivera lived up to her title of being GMA’s primetime queen as she emerged as the top-of-mind entertainment

The said research study affirmed that the credibility of GMA’s News and Public Affairs team is another factor that gave GMA a clear edge over its competitors. Indeed, GMA is home to television’s most engaging dramas, the most credible news figures, and most appealing entertainment personalities. This success is reflected in the Network’s countless achievements, and sustained nationwide ratings supremacy, making it truly worthy of being called number one.

Big stars lead new soap

Pahiram ng Sandali GMA Network’s new primetime drama, PAHIRAM NG SANDALI, showcases some of the biggest names and most awarded actors in Philippine TV.

Other cast members are Sandy Andolong, Roi Alvarez, Isabel Rivas, Neil Ryan Sese, Julio Diaz, Kristoffer Martin and Luz Valdez.

Leading the formidable cast is Dingdong Dantes who plays Alex Santiago, a man who falls in love with an older woman.

Lorna shares her thoughts on the series, “Magugustuhan niyo po ang Pahiram Ng Sandali kasi kapag nakilala ninyo ang characters namin sa series, makikita n’yo rin yung sarili n’yo. Maaalala n’yo yung sarili n’yong experiences, yung sarili ninyong feelings.

Lorna Tolentino portrays Janice Alvaro, a media executive who gets flattered by a younger man’s sincere interest and affection. Seasoned actor Christopher de Leon is Phillip, Janice’s husband who shows lack of interest in her. Mark Gil plays Larry Gomez, Alex’s domineering father. Pahiram ng Sandali also stars fast-rising Kapuso actress Max Collins as Cindy, an independent and adventurous woman who falls for Alex, and Alessandra de Rossi as Baby, Philip’s lover.

Dingdong expounds, “Words will never be enough to articulate the beauty of Pahiram Ng Sandali as an artwork. Yung trabaho natin. Makapagaral. Lahat iyan ay mga hiram na sandali.”

Ms. Lilybeth Gomez-Rasonable, OIC of GMA’s Entertainment Group shares, “Viewers will find Pahiram Ng Sandali exciting because it mirrors our lives, how we are, what we are and how falling in love makes us different from who we thought we were. Even more engaging is to discover how someone we love can alter our destinies.” On the other hand, coming from the phenomenal success of her latest production One True Love, Ms. Redgynn Alba, Program Manager of Pahiram Ng Sandali, is confident that GMA’s latest offering will also exceed expectations, “Considering the exceptional talent of our cast and the team behind Pahiram Ng Sandali, we can promise that viewers will witness the finest on Philippine television,” Alba says.

Not only is it because American politics is as vibrant as ours, but also because technology has practically put America and the world right in the middle of our living rooms. That is why we are very proud of the many prestigious names in our Eleksyon 2013 partnership who are here today. This is proof that we are keeping the bar for media coverage of elections high not only among us partners, nor our respective clients, but moreso for each and every Filipino whose right to vote is enshrined in the Philippine constitution. I believe that I speak for all of us when I say that in this partnership we are not only driven by a singular passion for excellence in our respective fields of endeavor; we are also in it for public service and the motivation to do what is right for our country and our people.

Following are Atty Gozon’s remarks during the Eleksyon 2013 MOA signing held on November 8, 2012 at GMA’s Studio 7: Our distinguished partners, our colleagues in media and in GMA, friends, ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon. Last night, the American people again voted into office their incumbent president to continue leading them in the next four years. Because of digital technology, we witnessed history

Like a pilot whose task is to keep an aircraft flying after take off, let us help keep the spirit of our democracy and freedom alive through innovative, game-changing and empowering ideas, concepts and programs that are true to our ideals… walang kinikilingan, walang pinoprotektahan, walang kasinungalingan, serbisyong totoo lang. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure and honor to present the movers and shakers for Eleksyon 2013!

All things are possible if we believe in the magic of the Yuletide season. This is what GMA Network tells its viewers in its Christmas campaign, “Walang Imposible Sa Pasko ng Kapuso.” Through four heartwarming vignettes, the Kapuso Station takes viewers to a special place where dreams become a reality if one will only believe in the true meaning of the Season.

The first vignette “Bituin” highlights the magical feeling found in making a child’s wish come true as a little boy, determined to play the lead role in a Nativity play, receives a big surprise from his parents. The joy of spending Christmas with the entire family is given focus in the second vignette, “Handa,” where a couple living abroad reminisces about spending Christmas in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, another vignette, “Karoling” tells how Christmas can open doors of unexpected opportunities. Here, a teenage boy, who finds it difficult to approach his long-time crush, gets a necessary push from his friends, making way for an unexpected encounter between the two. Finally, in “Puting Pasko,” a woman who dreams of a white Christmas in the Philippines gets her wish as her husband goes the extra mile in the spirit of love. With this campaign, GMA wishes to bring forth the far greater joy that giving brings especially during the Holiday season. GMA Kapuso Foundation spreads holiday cheer through Give-A-Gift In the spirit of the holidays, GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) presents customized Christmas packages to underprivileged children through its Give A Gift: Alay Sa Batang Pinoy project. GMAKF brings joy to some 30,000 children from 17 provinces across the country through the distribution of Noche Buena packages, toys and other special gifts. Provinces that are still in recovery from the Habagat onslaught last August such as Bataan, Laguna, Pangasinan, and La Union will also benefit from this project. Recipients of the Noche Buena packages are children of farmers and fisher folks, children in armed conflict areas, children in indigenous communities, children with special needs, and children of incarcerated mothers. “Nothing compares to seeing these children smile as they receive their Give-A-Gift packages this Christmas,” says GMAKF Executive Vice President and COO Mel Tiangco.

“We are very grateful to our partners, donors and volunteers, who make it possible for us to provide help and assistance in more ways than one,” Tiangco adds.
