RATINGS

GMA Continues as Nationwide Ratings Frontrunner in October GMA Network (GMA) continued its strong showing in nationwide television ratings in October, based on data from Nielsen Phils. TV Audience Measurement. From October 1 to 31 (with October 22 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA maintained its ratings supremacy in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), gaining an average total day people audience share of 42 percent, higher than ABS-CBN’s 37.9 percent. Further, the Kapuso Network posted winning numbers across all day parts in NUTAM. In the morning block, GMA registered a 38.8 percent people audience share versus ABS-CBN’s 35.7 percent. The Network’s powerhouse afternoon line-up dominated the time block with 45.8 percent as against ABS-CBN’s 37.1 percent. Subsequently, the evening block was also ruled by GMA with 40.4 percent versus competition’s 39.5 percent.

GMA likewise toppled its rival network in all time blocks in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 76 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country. In Urban Luzon, the Network garnered a total day people audience share of 47.3 percent, way ahead of ABS-CBN’s 32.5 percent. GMA also sustained its dominance in Mega Manila (based on October 1 to 21 data) with 48.8 percent total day people audience share versus ABS-CBN’s 29.3 percent. More Kapuso shows also made it to the list of top programs in NUTAM with Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho being the most watched Kapuso program nationwide in October. GMA Network also dominated the list of top programs in Urban Luzon with 9 of the top 10 while, again, sweeping Mega Manila’s top 10 list.

Nielsen TV

Audience Measurement Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media. With approximately 900 more homes surveyed in Total Urban and Rural Philippines compared to Kantar, Nielsen data is statistically considered more representative of the total TV population. In 2016, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement increased its client pool to a total of 36 clients/ subscribers consisting of 12 local TV networks including TV5, Aksyon TV, CNN Philippines, Net 25, Solar Entertainment Corporation, Viva Communications Inc., among others; 5 regional clients; 2 blocktimers and 17 media agencies.

requires “all franchise holders or operators of television programs to broadcast or present their programs with closed caption option…”

Offering a more inclusive viewing experience, GMA’s closed captioning enables its viewers to read a full transcription of the dialogue as well as other key elements of the program such as background music, effects, etc. at the bottom part of the screen. This is especially beneficial to viewers who are deaf or who are hard of hearing.

An initial test of this service was applied to the film Mission Impossible, which was aired on Kapuso Movie Festival last September 28.

The Network’s move is in compliance with Republic Act No. 10905, which

GMA Network’s 2017 Christmas Station ID Inspires Viewers to Love Wholeheartedly GMA Network invites viewers to spread love wholeheartedly via its 2017 Christmas Station ID dubbed, “Buong Pusong MaGMAhalan Ngayong Pasko,” which now airs on GMA-7. This Yuletide season, the Kapuso Network helps bring to mind that any act of kindness, no matter how simple, can make a huge difference when it comes from the heart. Shot in various locations in Metro Manila, provinces, and abroad, GMA’s Christmas Station ID, which premiered last November 6 after Super Ma’am, features a series of heart-warming scenes of unsuspecting Filipinos receiving heartfelt surprises from Kapuso personalities.

“Kami po’y nagpapasalamat sa ating mga kasama sa GMA dahil binigyan kami ng pagkakataong makasama sila,” Tito Sotto added. GMA News pillar Jessica Soho, along with fellow Kapuso personalities, went to share the love with the true heroes in the classroom. She said, “Kailangang pasalamatan natin sila every chance we get dahil napakadakila ng ating mga teacher.” Adding amusement to the festive atmosphere of the station ID is the theme song “Magmahalan Nang BuongPuso,” performed by Kapuso artists Alden Richards, Mikee Quintos, Nar Cabico, Maricris Garcia, Aicelle Santos, and Julie Anne San Jose. The jingle,

which was released online last October 30, was written by BJ Camaya, Rexy Jolly Conopio, and Jann Lopez while music was composed by Len Calvo. Following the station ID’s launch last November 6, #BuongPusongMaGMAhalan became a trending topic in the Philippines and worldwide, reaching over a million views online and counting. To watch the full version of the Kapuso 2017 Christmas Station ID, visit www. gmanetwork.com/entertainment and follow GMA’s official accounts on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram via the handle @gmanetwork.

GMA News pillars Mel Tiangco and Mike Enriquez, who went to separate locations, shared their thoughts on their gratifying experiences. “It’s always heart-warming to be with our televiewers. Kapag nasa 24 Oras, kapag nasa Magpakailanman ako, hindi ko sila nakakadaupang-palad. Pero ngayong kasama natin sila, I feel their warmth,” said Mel.

Netizens noted that aside from the song’s heart-warming message and catchy tune, the station ID did not focus on the “star factor” but rather on the people who truly matter. Many commented that it was by far GMA’s best Christmas station ID as it successfully captured the true spirit of the season.

“Masarap talagang magbigay ng kasiyahan, lalo na kapag Pasko. Masarap talagang magbigay, period,” shared Mike who went to a public market. Meanwhile, the hosts of the longestrunning noontime show Eat Bulaga surprised their solid Dabarkads. “Kakaiba ito dahil kahit na lagi naming ginagawa ito sa pagsugod sa barangay, kakaiba ito kasi si lola, 105 years old na! Ang daming kuwento!,” said Joey De Leon.

GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), GMA Network’s socio-civic arm, successfully turned over its very first bridge which it constructed for the residents of Barangay Iraya in Buhi, Camarines Sur on October 20.

steel and concrete and even has solar powered lamps. The landing of the Iraya bridge is made of expanded metal, a reinforced metal mesh material used as flooring, which was first spotted by GMA Kapuso Founder Mel Tiangco while on a personal trip visiting a waterfall in South America. The flooring of the hanging bridge there sported that exact same material.

The hanging bridge which is part of GMAKF’s initiative titled, Kapuso Tulay para sa Kaunlaran project, replaces a typhoon-damaged bridge in Iraya and provides safe passage for residents, especially children who walk to and from the local school. Prior to the construction of the Iraya Steel Hanging Bridge, residents and students ran the risk of falling into the tributary of Buhi lake every time they crossed a makeshift bridge of scraggly steel cables, and later on, slippery bamboo.

Turnover ceremonies were led by GMAKF Executive Vice President and COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog. “We are grateful to our generous donors (from the private sector and the general public) and to our partners, for the fruition of GMAKF’s first bridge construction project. We extend our heartfelt thanks first and foremost to the good Lord and to Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, Republic Cement, DMCI, Equator Energy Corporation, NKD International Trading, Davies Paints, DPWH, the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Southern Luzon Command and the local government of Buhi, for their support,” EscuderoCatibog acknowledged.

Kapuso Foundation Steps Up Fundraising Efforts for Marawi

GMA Network’s socio-civic arm, GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), has launched multiplatform efforts to raise funds for its plans to help rebuild war-torn Marawi City. GMAKF’s project dubbed, “Rebuild Marawi” includes constructing typhoon resistant classrooms and the distribution of food and hygiene kits in temporary shelters (tent cities). A related project, “Kapuso Para sa Kawal” is also in the works, particularly aimed at injured soldiers, to help them get back on their feet again.

Rebuild Marawi Microsite GMA New Media, Inc. created a microsite for GMAKF which provides different ways for people to get involved in the Rebuild Marawi project. The site, which can be accessed via the link www.gmanetwork. com/RebuildMarawi , features the latest news on Marawi City, first-hand stories from the displaced and wounded who were traumatized by the conflict, and steps on how people, in their own way, can help aid the recovery of the city and its residents.

Screenshots of the “Rebuild Marawi” microsite

Through GMAKF, everyone can take positive action to help Rebuild Marawi – by giving hope, sharing love, donating to build new classrooms and volunteering. Send inspiring letters and artwork to

displaced families and soldiers stationed in the city, send Halal relief goods and/or hygiene kits, donate in cash for the future of the Filipino youth, or donate time and join relief packing operations. Meanwhile, a link to the initiative “Kapuso Para sa Kawal”, which adopts a three-pronged approach to serve amputee soldiers who fought terrorists and insurgents, can also be seen on the microsite. The project aims to replace lost limb (or limbs) with prosthetics, rehabilitate by providing psychological and physical therapy, and help regenerate sources of livelihood so the injured soldiers can continue to lead productive lives.

A HEART THAT GIVES GMA Kapuso Foundation distributes food and hygiene kits to the residents of Marawi.

Ibangon ang Marawi MTV GMAKF also created a music video for the theme song of its project entitled, ”Ibangon ang Marawi” which was composed and sung by young residents of Marawi City. Composed by Aslanie Malawi and sung by 13-year-old Johanisah “Lovely” Racman, the song poignantly invites everyone to unite and help Marawi City rise again from the rubble.

Giving Hope by your choice of gift this Christmas GMA Network recently organized its yearly painting contest called Art Gap 2017, featuring the works of GMA employees and talents – also to help Rebuild Marawi. The winning paintings for this year’s Art Gap, with the theme “Peace and Giving”, are featured in GMA Kapuso Foundation’s 2017 all season greeting card set. The set, composed of 10 unique greeting cards, is being sold to the public for One Thousand Pesos per box beginning this November, in time for Christmas gift giving. Those who want to order may call GMAKF at 982-7777 local 9903 or 9905. Proceeds from the sale will go to funding various projects of GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Megan Young Revisits Roots, Brings Filipinos in US Closer to Home

A Kapuso shows off his #TeamAbroad shirt from GMA Pinoy TV.

A Filipino war veteran was all smiles upon receiving a giveaway from GMA Pinoy TV.

For Megan Young, the GMA Pinoy TV-sponsored Fil Fest USA held in Norfolk, Virginia last October 14 was an opportunity to celebrate Filipino-American History Month with her fellow FilipinoAmericans, as well as revisit the state where she was born. Ahead of Fil Fest USA, Megan talked about taking up residence in the state known as the mother of presidents and statesmen via a live chat on the GMA Pinoy TV Facebook page. “I was actually born in Virginia -- not in Norfolk, but in Alexandria, Virginia… ‘yung parents ko dati nagwo-work sa Washington D.C. (which is near Alexandria), kaya doon kami nakatira. It feels good to be back,” said the Kapuso actress.

Megan gamely took photos with her kababayans after the show.

Inspired by this homecoming of sorts, Megan launched into a sweet performance of songs at the Fil Fest USA event, which was well-received by attendees. Owning the stage like a pro, Megan reached out to members of the audience who were visibly thrilled to be in the presence of the former Miss World. “Kahit anong event na nagagawa namin for GMA Pinoy TV, I’m always super duper excited to meet members of Filipino communities,” said Megan in her Facebook live broadcast prior to the event. “I really want to be able to visit all our Kapuso Abroad all over the world,” added Megan, who has been featured in a number of GMA Pinoy TV events in the past, the most recent of which brought her to Kuwait in the Middle East.

Right after her onstage stint, Megan headed to the GMA Pinoy TV booth for a meet-and-greet with her fans. She was met with a queue of supporters who were all clamouring for a photo opportunity with the ‘Starstruck’ alumna. With Fil Fest USA wrapped up, Megan is headed to Alexandria for a muchawaited reunion with her family and relatives, whom the actress hasn’t seen in a long while – a fitting reward for someone who was generous enough to spend time with her kababayans and remind them of pleasant memories of their home back in the Philippines. Feel closer to home with the latest episodes of your favorite Kapuso programs even when abroad.
