MA Network renews its Broadcast Music Public Performance License with the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, Inc. GMA Network’s comprehensive typhoon coverage delivers much-needed news, information

T

he year 2020 continues to be a challenging year. Aside from the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the Philippines has been dealing with natural calamities one after another. Amid the adversities however, GMA Network’s relentless dedication to Serbisyong Totoo shines through. The Kapuso Network’s pool of news anchors and reporters braved the challenges in logistics and weather conditions to provide the much-needed news and information to the public in every part of the country. From Unang Hirit’s Unang Balita to 24 Oras and Saksi, GMA aired news reports and latest situationers from various parts of Luzon during the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses on November 12 and 13. In between these newscasts were news bulletins that aired the whole day. GMA News TV, on the other hand, aired the GMA News TV Live Special Coverage on November 12. This was in addition to the

Over the weekend, GMA News TV continued its coverage with the extended airing of Dobol B sa News TV, a GMA News TV special typhoon coverage, and the simulcast of 24 Oras Weekend. On Sunday, Jessica Soho flew to Cagayan and reported on the aftermath of Typhoon Ulysses for GMA News’ special coverage and newscasts. Soho was able to secure an exclusive interview with President Rodrigo Duterte. She was also able to speak with Vice President Leni Robredo before the latter left the area. Her comprehensive report was also aired later in the evening in Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho. The special coverage also featured live reports from Marisol Abdurahman from Cagayan as well as GMA News reporters from other affected areas. Atom Araullo also reported on location for mobile journalism newscast Stand for Truth.

GMA executive joins AFP Health Service Command’s Multi-Sector Advisory Board G

MA Network’s Regional TV and Synergy Vice President and Head Oliver Victor Amoroso has been selected as a distinct member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Health Service Command Transformation Roadmap (AFPHSCTR) Multi-Sector Advisory Board (MSAB). The MSAB was formed in response to AFPHSCTR’s commitment to promote good governance, transparency, and accountability within the framework of stakeholder consultation and engagement. As part of the MSAB, Amoroso becomes one of the Transformation Roadmap Champions from the private sector who will help AFPHSC realize its vision of becoming “A World-Class Health Care Services Provider of the AFP by 2028.” He will also provide expert advice in the implementation of AFPHSCTR and assist in improving transparency and accountability in reporting performance. He also recently led the successful launch of regional morning shows Mornings with GMA Regional TV in North Central Luzon; GMA Regional TV Live! in Central and Eastern Visayas; GMA Regional TV Early Edition in Western Visayas; and At Home with GMA Regional TV in North, Central, and Southern Mindanao. As GMA Network remains committed to local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amoroso led GMA RTV’s ‘Kapuso Barangayan on Wheels (KBOW),’ which reached out to various barangays across the country. Now on its second wave, a total of 6,830 family-beneficiaries have been given food packs and other essential items in 58 barangays all over the country. GMA RTV also conducted short lectures on proper hand sanitation, wearing of PPEs, social distancing, and other health protocols during these barangayan activities. GMA Kapuso Foundation keeps bayanihan spirit alive amidst pandemic, consecutive typhoons G

MA Network’s socio-civic arm GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) fulfills the Kapuso mandate of Serbisyong Totoo via its ‘Operation Bayanihan’ relief operations as thousands of Filipinos across the country are in dire need of help following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly and, most recently, Typhoon Ulysses. Some of our kababayans were only just beginning to recover from a previous typhoon (Quinta) that hit the country when Rolly’s destructive winds and Ulysses’ heavy floods left more families in Luzon with no homes, no livelihood, and more vulnerable to COVID-19. Prior to the onslaught of Rolly, said to be the strongest typhoon to enter the country this year, GMAKF swiftly prepared relief goods for immediate distribution to different parts of Central Luzon and Bicol Region. The Foundation, which was first to distribute aid in Camarines Sur, Albay, and Catanduanes, was able to transport the relief packs with the help of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Operation Bayanihan was so far able to provide critical aid to a total of 43,328 individuals who were affected by Rolly from different areas of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Albay in the Bicol Region as well as in Bataan and Bulacan in Central Luzon.

GMA KAPUSO MAGAZINE |NOVEMBER 2020 ISSUE

Just last week, Typhoon Ulysses further caused devastation in more areas including Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, and Cagayan Valley, the latter of which experienced its worst flooding in decades. GMAKF was first to reach Cagayan as it rushed to the communities, as soon as roads were passable, to give much needed urgent assistance. To date, GMAKF has already reached over 21,000 individuals in various barangays in Quezon City, Rodriguez and Tanay in

Rizal; Infanta, Quezon; Tuguegarao, Enrile, and Solana in Cagayan; and in Ilagan and Tumauini, Isabela. Through donations to GMAKF, the Foundation was able to distribute relief packs that includes rice, canned goods, safe drinking water, face masks, face shields, blankets and even diapers (to mothers with toddlers and babies) to a total of 64,403 Filipinos who were affected by typhoons Rolly and Ulysses.

CITIZEN KAPUSO 17

“Anumang panganib ang ating harapin, mula sa Bicol, NCR, hanggang sa Cagayan, hindi mapipigilan ang paghahatid natin ng tulong sa mga lubos na nangangailangan. At nagawa natin ‘yan sa tulong ng inyong mga donasyon,” said GMAKF Founder and Ambassador Mel Tiangco. Supplementing the continuous Operation Bayanihan drive, GMAKF’s ‘Kapuso Soup

Kitchen’ also provided hot meals to 1,000 evacuees from low lying areas around Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City, to 500 individuals in Barangays Buenavista and Sirang in Catanduanes, and to 800 individuals in Barangays Tañong, Barangka, and Malanday in Marikina. GMA Kapuso Foundation’s Soup Kitchen is personally sponsored by GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon.

As of this writing, GMAKF is embarking on its second wave of relief distributions in Cagayan and is also heading for San Mateo, Rizal, Polilio Island, Aurora and General Nakar, Quezon. GMA Kapuso Foundation continues to accept cash donations to bring aid to more Filipino families in the hope of helping them get back on their feet.
