From the Editor A K-Pop World
I come from a generation that saw the emergence of The Beatles, easily one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of all time. It’s hard to think of the Fab Four without the accompanying images of thousands of screaming teenagers swooning at the very sight of them, creating such a noise at concerts that it was often hard to hear the band playing or singing. That lightning in a bottle is hard to ever imagine capturing again, but BTS comes darn close. In just a few short years, this South Korean pop group has captured the hearts and minds of the world; it’s practically its own political force, with its loyal fans hanging on every word. And shows sell out instantly, including this week’s series of shows at Allegiant Stadium. The group is so popular that not only can you watch them live at Allegiant, you can also purchase tickets to watch a live video stream at MGM Grand Garden Arena! This week’s issue is, among other things, a tribute to BTS, courtesy of associate editor Kiko Miyasato, who takes readers through some fun facts about the band and its many members (“Boys We Luv,” p. 30). However you’re choosing to enjoy BTS this week, we hope you check out the rest of Las Vegas Magazine for what to do before and after the show. We’ve packed this issue with plenty of entertainment options
across the Strip, from shows and restaurants to bars and attractions. Fans of Bobby Flay will be happy to know that his involvement in Las Vegas continues to grow with the opening of his latest outpost of Bobby’s Burgers at Paris (“Expanding Empire,” p. 13). Resorts World Las Vegas continues to impress with its wide variety of dining options. In this week’s issue, we introduce you to FUHU, an Asian-themed restaurant guaranteed to satisfy (“Vibe Dining,” p. 9). And editor at large Brock Radke takes you through some of the city’s newest dining options (“Discovery Stations,” p. 26). If attending a BTS show gets you in the mood for more entertainment, hold on tight! This week’s options range from magic by America’s Got Talent winner Shin Lim at The Mirage (“Suspend Your Disbelief,” p. 11) and the spectacle of Cirque du Soleil at The Beatles LOVE at The Mirage (“Here Comes the Fun,” p. 13) to music by superstar Lady Gaga at Park MGM (“Far-Reaching Talent,” p. 10). For a great bar experience, check out Vegas Vickie’s at Circa Resort & Casino (“’Tis the Season,” p. 22); if you’ve got the kids in tow, head to the immersive Arcadia Earth (“Natural World,” p. 13). This week belongs to BTS, but Vegas is ready to give you plenty beyond that.

Far-Reaching Talent The singer is back with ‘Jazz & Piano’
Lady Gaga’s career has been characterized by blossoming and becoming, from her embryonic electro-pop and neo-burlesque phases to acting roles and her current course as the queen of cabaret singing. Her evolution led to the upper echelon of Las Vegas resident headliners when she became the first performer to launch two residencies at Park MGM beginning in 2018, but in the post-pandemic era her heart seems to be more aligned with her tribute to the Great American Songbook, Lady Gaga: Jazz & Piano. That’s not to say her pop concert residency, Lady Gaga: Enigma, won’t return, but April marks the second time she’s booked a Jazz & Piano engagement since live performing returned to the Strip. That has a lot to do with Tony Bennett, with whom she released a second recording of standards, Love for Sale, in September. The Cole Porter tribute became a No. 1 jazz album and a Top 10 pop album. Although Bennett retired from performing regularly in February 2021, he celebrated his 95th birthday by teaming up with Gaga at Radio City Music Hall for two August shows titled One Last Time: An Evening with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. Fueled by the emotion of the moment, Gaga danced and sang like she was born to keep the legacies of jazz standards—and Bennett himself—alive. It’s safe to say Bennett left his heart with Lady Gaga at those shows. His spirit is with her in Lady Gaga Jazz & Piano, mingling with her devotion to kindness that she expressed to Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Super Soul podcast in February. “I think after the past 10 years as my career has grown and changed and I’ve done different things, I’ve really become pretty mindful of my position in the world and my responsibility to humanity and for those who follow me,” she said. “I consider myself to be a kindness punk.” –Matt Kelemen Dolby Live at Park MGM, 8 p.m. April 14, 16-17, 21, 23-24, 28, 30 & May 1, starting at $165 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

Careful Aim If you want to vary your shooting experience, Machine Guns Vegas offers a range of packages for indoor and outdoor ranges at different price points, one of which is sure to appeal. The SEAL Team 6 offers four guns in the indoor range, from a Glock 19 to a tactical shotgun. The Gamers package features four guns on the indoor range, all of which are found in popular video games. Ammo and targets are included. For a real mid-day pick me up, stop by Giada Wine Bar. This is a really lovely space, light and bright, tucked back behind the bustle of Pronto By Giada. It is decorated with Italian tiles along the length of a small bar, with several barstools, plenty of booths and tables scattered throughout. One accent wall is tiled in a red herringbone, photos of Giada De Laurentiis and food-oriented art pieces, plus neon quotes like, “Everything you see I owe to spaghetti.” Greenery throughout gives the space an almost patio-like feel. While you are letting the ambience wash over you, pick out one of the 40 wines available by the glass or order up a frosé, which is not only beautiful but super tasty as well. Order a variety of light bites to accompany it and your afternoon couldn’t be better. And if you can’t sit down for a glass of vino, Pronto by Giada is an easy place for an Italian grab-andgo meal. Enjoy a range of items including Giada’s pastries, coffee and traditional breakfast items like scrambled eggs. –Nina King
Suspend Your Disbelief No one who saw Shin Lim on TV (or voted for him) was in the least bit surprised when his Las Vegas residency at The Mirage was announced in 2019. And no one who’s seen his Las Vegas show leaves disappointed. What makes Lim so accessible is his humility; he’s not afraid to share the stage with another talent, in this case fellow America’s Got Talent competitor Colin Cloud, a mentalist who’s also an adept comedian. In a way, Cloud is the perfect foil to
Lim: What better way to enjoy mind-blowing magic than with comic interludes? Most Lim fans are aware of his “greatest hits,” the illusions that won him AGT and the Champions edition. And yes, Lim does perform those, although in a slightly different way. Without giving anything away, let’s just say you want to be watching the man himself as well as the cards he so skillfully manipulates. –Ken Miller The Mirage, 800.963.9634

Now you can join the rebellion without having to worry about being attacked by a hive of genetically altered hornets or blade-wielding Tributes, as The Hunger Games: The Exhibition awaits inside the District at MGM Grand. Superfans can get up close to actual costumes worn by actors, interact with touch-responsive tech features and pull arrows back in bows to shoot exploding targets in the virtual shooting range that is the highlight of the attraction. through the eyes of teenage Katniss Everdeen, but young adult readers of all ages have been imagining themselves as resourceful protagonists trying to survive amid chaos and rebellion. Now they can place themselves in locations from the film franchise such as the Hall of Justice, the Tribute Train and District 13. Garments worn by Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland and Jennifer Lawrence are on display, including Katniss’ exquisite bridal gown. Interactive features provide opportunities to edit together film sequences with a selfie, get a closer look at fictional settings and manipulate computer-generated designs of creatures from the series. Then pretend you’re in the movie with
the archery simulation at the end of the tour. After some instruction, visitors are hustled into Beetee’s Lab, where bows and arrows await. There is a slight learning curve, but once participants get the hand of setting arrow notches into the bowstring, it’s an explosive indulgence in fun. Photo ops end the tour, with one for $15 and three for $25 opportunities to capture the moment, but guests are welcome to snap away with cell phones as they proceed through The Hunger Games: The Exhibition. There are plenty of photo ops for the Hunger Games faithful. Just don’t touch the costumes or plan on staying permanently. –Matt Kelemen MGM Grand, 702.531.3826

It joins the ever-growing brand, which also has outposts at Harrah’s and Caesars Palace. Fans already familiar with Flay’s franchise will be thrilled to discover that not only is the core burger lineup intact, Flay has added breakfast items! That means you can now get the brunch burger, featuring a fried egg on a brioche bun with American cheese and bacon, or the breakfast bacon sandwich, a brioche bun topped with soft scrambled eggs, American cheese, Bobby’s signature sauce and potato chips. Those same chips also find their way onto several Flay classics, including the Crunchburger, in which a traditional burger gets a layer of chips. Midday Sensations One of the hottest new restaurants in town now offers a terrific lunch. Kris Yenbamroong’s Night + Market’s lunch menu is a playful take on his overall menu, which focuses on “Thai drinking food,” a combination of the traditional and unique. One thing is certain: If you’re a fan of the L.A. original, this might become your new go-to lunch spot. Start with spicy egg rolls, where the texture of crunchy lettuce meets the sweet-and-sour flavors of a crispy egg roll stuffed with roast vegetables, glass noodles, shiitake mushrooms and Thai basil. Or opt for the savory and rich flavors of hanger steak satay, served with peanut sauce. Thai boxing chicken is destined to be a favorite, combining barbecue chicken thigh, papaya salad and sticky rice and chili dipping sauce. Pad thai gets a serious twist here, combining chicken, sweet radish, egg, crushed peanuts and Thai chili. But the real monster on this menu is the fried chicken sandwich, served Northern Thai-style. A chicken thigh with the skin on is deep fried and slathered with papaya slaw, jalapenos, cilantro and ranch dressing. –Ken Miller Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, 702.693.5000

Baby, It’s Cold Inside
Get a real change of scenery in these chilly attractions The idea of how good it would feel to be transported into an igloo built on an ice shelf or some similarly exhilarating subarctic surrounding is a notion not uncommon to people suffering sweltering summertime temperatures. Until the 21st century, few people had the means to escape, without a major commitment of time and expense, to an environment where frigid air provided relief from seasonal heat. Minus5 Ice Experience’s three Las Vegas destinations offer just that. The newest location at The Linq Promenade, Icebar, pictured, joins older siblings at The Venetian and The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. for storing and serving vodka; it’s also adequate for sustaining furniture carved from ice, or any other sculpture carved from frozen H2O. That includes highball glasses supplied by the bartenders at Minus5, who pour drinks made from a variety of distilled liquors in case an Old-Fashioned is more up a customer’s alley than an Icy Mudslide or Polar Breeze built on a foundation of flavored Skyy. Freshly cleaned parkas and faux-fur coats are supplied upon entry, and banquettes have a layer of faux-fur insulation as well. If the urge to smash an ice glass after finishing its contents becomes overwhelming, accommodations can be provided. The room at The Linq Promenade is more conducive to standing while socializing and slowly
rotating to take in the art and décor. The location at The Venetian contains a magical forest, while Palm Springs inspires the theme at Minus5 inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. A companion speakeasy, 1923 Prohibition Bar, enables a “fire and ice” experience involving vodka and bourbon to be added to options at Mandalay Place, where live music and burlesque are part of the scene Friday and Saturday nights. When you waltz up to Din Tai Fung, the first thing you may see is the chef with a dumpling for a head— he’s kind of hard to miss. The cheerful greeting from the Taiwanese dumpling house mascot puts you in an upbeat frame of mind, and when you pause at the glassed-in display kitchen where dumplings of all sorts are being created by hand, that happy feeling is sure to continue until you are seated at your table. Choose appetizers like the wood ear mushrooms or baby back ribs, then follow up with the main event. Ordering here is on a checklist-style system, where you choose the dumplings and buns you want to share. Good choices are the shrimp and kurobuta pork shao mai; Jidori chicken; and vegan dumplings, the latter stuffed with shiitake and wood ear mushrooms, glass noodles and bean curd. It may seem impossible to consider ordering dessert, but you won’t be sorry. The red bean bun pulls in a completely different flavor, but it’s also worth the order. And the lovely sesame paste bun will have you considering a second order. Truly. –Nina King

Pool manager soaks up the sun We can blame Chuck E. Cheese for Meghan Osuch not becoming a cop. Say what? Born into a family of cops, Osuch assumed she would become a cop, too, and she was headed down that career path, even studying criminal justice in college. But when she took her first job as a party hostess at the kid-friendly pizza chain, she had her first brush with the food and beverage industry. From there, she went on to work for two huge chains in Las Vegas, Metro Pizza and PT’s, where she climbed the ladder to management; she also spent time as a cocktail server at nightclubs on the Las Vegas Strip. “Honestly, I found out I was good at what I was doing—working in food and beverage—and it made me happy,” says the Las Vegas native. She eventually got off the cop career path and stayed on the F&B track, and since 2019 she’s
worked as the pool manager at Citrus Grand Pool Deck at Downtown Grand. “I love working outside,” Osuch says. “Being born and raised here, and being born in July—I’m a straight summer baby.” As the manager of Citrus, Osuch says her management style is all about “transparency, being open and honest with my staff. I have an open-door policy. Let them come to you with what they need personally and work wise.” Guests of Citrus can easily spot Osuch out on the pool deck—she’s always walking around talking with her guests and helping out the staff when they need it. “Being with my guests and my staff is the favorite part of my job. And being outside—I wear tanning lotion; I work on getting my tan all summer,” she says, laughing. –Kiko Miyasato

New summer cocktails make their debut at Circa bar and lounge With views of one of city’s most-famous neon signs, Vegas Vickie’s “is an unassuming and unpretentious cocktail paradise in the middle of the craziness that is downtown Las Vegas,” said Circa Resort & Casino lead bartender Tim Weigel. That famous 20-foot-tall neon sign is Vegas Vickie herself, donning her cowgirl hat and boots and watching over the lounge named after her. With plenty of bar and lounge seating, the hot spot off the casino floor and next to registration is the perfect place to kick back and enjoy delicious cocktails—and the specialty cocktail menu was recently updated for the upcoming summer season. orange, sparkling grapefruit and citrus salt on the rim. “(It’s) citrusy goodness and a hint of bitter from the Aperol,” Weigel said. If you like fruity and herbal, try the Nightshade with Patron reposado, Pama pomegranate liqueur, blueberry, ancho and basil. “Imagine if a blueberry and basil went on vacation in Jalisco,” Weigel joked about the cocktail’s flavors. For those that like to taste their alcohol, the spirit-forward Battle Born is perfect. “A spirituous collaboration of coffee, amaro and spicy rye,” Weigel says. While all of Vegas Vickie’s new seasonal cocktails are worth a try, for something a little unique and different, try the Major Grant. “It can be challenging to pull off a refreshing whiskey cocktail but the Major Grant delivers with the
single-malt flavors being complemented by the herbal and orange delights,” Weigel said. “Along with some sizzle from the ginger ale, this highball shines in the summer months.” One cocktail has remained a perennial favorite on Vegas Vickie’s menu since it opened—the Wish You Were Here. “The flavors of apricot and coconut dance on the palate with this libation,” he said. It’s mixed with Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, apricot, citrus and bitter orange. Bonus: Guests receive a Circa-branded postcard with the cocktail; you can fill it out at the bar and the staff will mail it off for you. The décor is straight out of a scene from Thrones—it’s dimly lit with faux chandeliers and wall sconces, dark-colored curtains, dark stone and wood walls with brick outlay and wooden tables and chairs. There are no TVs at all, purposefully done in order to both set the mood and encourage conversation. On one wall hangs a coat of arms containing an assortment of swords, which you are fully encouraged to unsheathe and pose with for photos, as well as helmets you can don. You halfway expect Brienne of Tarth to show up to pour your water! Primal also has a large bar in the center and several separate rooms for special events. But as you’ll quickly discover, any meal at Primal is a special event. The presentation here is just dazzling. Dry ice figures prominently in many dishes and drinks, making for some very memorable pictures and videos you can show your envious friends and family later. All the cocktails are themed, like the Viking Punch, which is served in a real, hollowed-out horn, with dry ice at the bottom so it smokes as you drink it. The medieval sangria looks as good as it tastes, served in an elaborate goblet. Atop this beauty, a sugar cube that is soaked in Everclear burns for even more aromas.
Guatemala-born chef Angel Lopez has created a varied menu full of flavors and surprises, all served up by some of the friendliest, most professional staff in the entire valley. Some restaurants promise that you’ll feel pampered throughout your experience, but Primal seriously delivers on this pledge. Appetizers include Iberico ham, served with grilled sourdough, Boursin cheese and arugula, and black ceviche, served in an shell made of ice that melts as you eat the contents within. Main courses include smoked
Black ceviche
halibut (arriving under a cover that is skillfully lifted by your server, revealing billowing wafts of smoke) and a tomahawk that might be one of the best cuts of meat I’ve ever tasted. Make sure to grab some sides like lobster mac and cheese and shrimp scampi. Everything here is just bursting with flavor and personality. The presentation extends to the dessert menu as well, particularly the crème brûlée, which is flambéed tableside. If you really feel the need to get in touch with your inner John Snow, you really can’t do better than this.

ground beef and half bacon in its juicy, flavorful burger patties, Slater’s has added an over-thetop signature to the menu that was featured on the Netflix series Fresh, Fried and Crispy. The Whale Burger adds a fried lobster tail, three gold-dusted bacon strips, truffle cheese, arugula, bacon jam and roasted garlic aioli to a one-pound wagyu beef burger, truly an epic meal. Back on the Strip at Harrah’s Las Vegas, Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux (702.693.6111), a family-friendly sports bar and grill with a Louisiana-inspired menu, has arrived just upstairs from the main casino floor. Crawfish étouffée, chicken and waffles, and duck and andouille gumbo add spice while burgers, salads, wraps and other familiar dishes make sure there’s something for everyone. No one will want to skip the Krispy Kreme Donut bread pudding at Walk-On’s. One of the valley’s longtime favorites for Mexican food and cold beer has opened a new location in the neighborhood where it first got started. Nacho Daddy (702.206.5904) is back in Henderson, adding another lively destination to go with its bar-restaurant spots on the Strip at the Miracle Mile Shops, downtown and on the westside. Keep this place in mind for your next Taco Tuesday party or for a happy hour gathering any day of the week. Nearby at Green Valley Ranch Resort, the seasonal Spring at the Terrace outdoor lounge offering in the Backyard (702.617.6800) has relaunched just in time to be paired with beautiful weather. Take a seat at your table or private mini greenhouse in this botanical garden pop-up environment and enjoy cocktails or a rosé flight along with small plates like tuna tartare with avocado and sesame ginger dressing, a platter of crisp veggies with baba ghanoush and Greek yogurt raita, or sweet little bites including spring madeleines with florally inspired flavors. Sahara Las Vegas continues to add innovative cuisine to its dining portfolio and the latest must-try is The Noodle Den (702.761.7000), a thoughtful evolution of the classic casino noodle bar. Hearty soups, savory Chinese barbecue, and authentic handmade noodles and dumplings star on this menu, specifically featuring Lanzhou beef hand-pulled noodle soup, Mongolian beef stir-fry with knife-sliced noodles, and crab and pork xiao long bao dumplings. Roast duck fried rice with XO sauce and chicken dan dan noodles are among our favorite dishes so far at this hidden gem on the Strip. –Brock Radke

Lone Mountain property is perfect for equestrian lifestyles How many of us have fantasized about having horses? Certainly as kids, it seemed like the ideal dream, right? Unfortunately, the reality is that it’s just not practical for most lifestyles. But not anymore! Welcome to the perfect home for not only owning horses but enjoying life to the fullest. The property at 4225 N. Jensen St., listed by Anthony Spiegel of the Ivan Sher Group, is

a beautiful, sprawling estate, complete with stables, horse pastures, training areas and more. Nicknamed “The House of Roses,” this 8,199-square-foot, two-story home sits on 2.3 acres, having as its backdrop Lone Mountain, which allows for some spectacular views. It’s also just minutes away from Summerlin. The details throughout this Hacienda-style home are considerable, including imported,
custom carved stone, stained glass windows, mosaic tile work, Spanish-style tile accents and Doug Slater metalwork throughout. And the entrance itself is notable—you pass through a private electric front gate, which opens to a landscaped driveway that offers access to all parts of the estate. Speaking of landscaping, you’ll be struck by the touches throughout this property. There are

25 species of roses and fruit trees throughout, all supported by a private well water system. To say there’s room to stretch out and relax here would be an understatement, with six large bedrooms and eight bathrooms, each with its own sense of privacy and comfort. Wait until you begin exploring the environs here, both inside and out. There’s so much to see and enjoy, from two pools and a spa to seven
horse stalls (each with automatic waters), a box stall with a 30-foot covered run attached, riding arena (which features a recycled athletic shoe blend for shock absorption), a sprinkler system allows for plenty of dust control, and a riding ring surrounded by steel board fencing by Buckley Fence, including a 60-foot-round pen for training. And here’s an added bonus: The property
has its own private direct access to a 2.3-mile horse-riding trail (which is groomed daily) from your private, remote-controlled back gate. There’s additional riding space available at the Lone Mountain Equestrian Park, which includes a large, covered riding arena and two round equine pens. –Ken Miller 4225 N.
