Change of Scenery

The Las Vegas residency continues to be one of the most fascinating things about Las Vegas. Its history is rich, a veritable who’s who of the greatest talents of their respective generations. Liberace, Elvis, Celine Dion, Elton John ... the list is too large to repeat in this space. And these days, a residency can mean playing multiple properties! This week’s issue highlights two particularly compelling performers who previously enjoyed residencies at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace: Keith Urban and Usher.

Urban, who begins a new residency this week at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort, sat down with editor at large Brock Radke to talk about his completely new show (“Brand New Digs,” p. 32). Meanwhile, Usher resumes his newest residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM (“Continuing His Legacy,” p. 18).

Want more live music options? Jam band fans will want to check out Widespread Panic, which visits Virgin Hotels Las Vegas this week for a multiple-date stint (“Jam Band Brothers,” p. 36 ). And the man who created the guitar lick that became Eagles hit “Hotel California,” Don Felder, performs at Westgate Las Vegas (“Flying High,” p. 14).

Looking for a nice steak dinner? StripSteak, Michael Mina’s beloved Mandalay Bay restaurant, recently underwent a complete makeover, and the results are stunning (“Well Done, Chef!” p. 28). How about brunch? Pasta Cucina at Sunset Station just introduced brunch on the fi rst Sunday of every month (“And First, We Brunch,” p. 21). Vegans will love Crossroads Kitchen at Resorts World Las Vegas, where every single dish and cocktail is plant-based (“Plant Yourself and Enjoy,” p. 12).
