TV Fans, Rejoice
I’m not ashamed to admit it: I’m a child of television. From the late-’60s on, I grew up watching the tube incessantly, from Sesame Street to All in the Family to St. Elsewhere to ER to Breaking Bad .... you get the idea. It’s informed me in a way no other media has; it’s helped shape my tastes, my way of thinking, even my general lifestyle.
And as the editor of Las Vegas Magazine, television has come in handy in a huge way. I’ve been a huge fan of America’s Got Talent practically from the beginning. The notion that any ordinary person can suddenly rise to fame (and get their own headlining gig on the Las Vegas Strip) was, and continues to be, a major point of fascination with me. And it’s been a personal thrill to see so many of my favorite acts over the years get their own shows here—Mat Franco, Pi the Magic Dragon, Tape Face and many more. No doubt many of you are also AGT fans and may have asked yourself, “Why is (my personal favorite act) not performing on the Strip?” That question has been answered, thanks to the addition of America’s Got Talent Presents SUPERSTARS Live at Luxor (“Skills That Thrill,” p. 38), an ever-changing collection of some of the show’s best acts over the years. I’ve been several times already, and it’s never the same show twice. In other words, it’s an AGT fan’s dream come true.
Speaking of television, David Blaine, the entertainer known for numerous specials over the decades (from magic to stunts of endurance), is enjoying a residency at Resorts World Las Vegas (“Practice, Practice, Practice,” p. 34). And yes, this is a show his television fans will appreciate.
Las Vegas’ entertainment landscape is always changing and evolving, and television has become a larger part of that than ever before. And for people like me, that’s excellent news.
