Timeless Appeal

One of the great things about Las Vegas is how you can live in the present or in the past; both exist simultaneously here, and both are heavily supported by the millions of visitors who fly into Harry Reid International Airport every year. After all, while Las Vegas has made many improvements to ensure its future, this is also a city that pays homage to bygone eras. It’s part of what makes a visit here so exciting—call it a desert time machine.

For instance, if you want to live in the present, it doesn’t get much more contemporary than music acts like country sensation Sam Hunt, who performs this week at Resorts World Las Vegas (“Changing the Game,” p. 32) or the teaming up of extreme-metal bands Mastodon and Gojira at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas (“Monsters of Modern Metal,” p. 36 ). If your tastes are more oldies radio, you’ll defi nitely want to get your tickets to Gary Lewis and the Playboys at Golden Nugget (“Count Us In,” p. 20). More a Motown fan? One of the best tribute shows in town, Hitzville The Show at Rio, features one of the best singers/impersonators in town— Jin Jin Reeves, who talks to Las Vegas Magazine this week about her craft (“Music to Move You,” p. 21). And whether you’re a fan of new or old, you’ll defi nitely enjoy the wide-ranging talents of Frankie Moreno, who begins a residency at Palms this week (“A Talent Whirlwind,” p. 17 ), and Donny Osmond, who continues his smash residency at Harrah’s (“The One & Only,” p. 34).

Dining-wise, a brand-new restaurant has opened up at Caesars Palace, one sure to be a huge hit with those who like shared plates: Stanton Social Prime, chef Chris Santos’ Vegas version of his Stanton Social in Manhattan (“That’s Entertainment!” p. 14).

New or old, present or past, it’s all here in Las Vegas. You just have to know where to look.
