The Story of Our Lives

Fascinating attraction about the human condition will evoke amazement and emotion simultaneously

The feeling of amazement you’ll likely experience as you first glimpse the preserved human figures in REAL BODIES at Horseshoe Las Vegas will likely quickly be replaced by feelings of strong emotion. This exhibit was created to tell stories as well as introduce generations to the various systems that come together to create human life, and odds are you will come out of this attraction feeling much more connected to the universe.

All the bodies on display have been created by a process called plastination, allowing the curators to display them in various poses that illustrate activities we enjoy in our everyday lives, but exposing the musculature, skeleton, arteries and more in the process.

For each body, a different story of the human condition is told, with rooms labeled “Rhythm,” “Hunger,” “Move,” “Think,” “Love,” “Breathe” and more. In addition, to get you thinking philosophically, quotes are spread throughout REAL BODIES by famous personalities like Yoko Ono, John Lennon, John F. Kennedy and so many more. In addition, you’ll be introduced to fun facts about the body itself. For example, did you know that the saliva you produce over a lifetime can fill two swimming pools? Or that the volume of air that your lungs inhale daily can fill two hot air balloons?

Along with the bodies themselves, there are so many different smaller exhibits that will make you stop and reflect. When you see the smoker’s lung, it will definitely make you rethink that next cigarette, while a section featuring shrunken heads and a large piece of human skin cannot be ignored. And when you enter the “Death Hall,” lit with candles, it’s a sobering reminder of just how fleeting and delicate our situation is.

Odds are you may be wanting to improve your health after a visit here, and if so, you are in luck! The exhibit’s creators are working on a “Journey to Wellness” program for the month of January, which will feature, among other things, a resolution wall for those who want to change their lives for the better.

As an added bonus, every Saturday in the attraction’s Wellness area, guest speakers will address topics like losing those first five pounds, journaling for stress management, yoga and breathwork. All this will be included with the cost of a ticket! –Ken Miller

A World of Choice

Give everyone exactly what they’re craving at this next-level

Las Vegas Strip food court

Got a little difference of opinion with your group? Can’t decide on a place to eat? Then I know exactly where you should head. Famous Foods Street Eats at Resorts World Las Vegas has a lot of choices.

If you love sushi, Nori Bar features hand rolls and maki cut rolls, plus three sets with the most popular items. Steve Aoki’s Kuru Kuru Pa, pictured, serves up teriyaki bowls, Wu Zhang Artisan Noodles are hand-pulled and Googgle Man wok fries rice and egg noodles. But the choices are only beginning. FUHU Shack’s char siu and roasted duck burritos are reminescent of the Peking duck you’ll find at the full restaurant. At Famous Pho, Harajuku Ramen and Geylang Claypot Rice, there are delicious versions of the popular Asian dishes. While at most of the restaurants in Famous Foods Street Eats are meant to be eaten in the courtyard spaces the eateries surround, FUHU Cha Chaan Teng is a sit-down “tea restaurant” that offers a varied Asian menu that channels many different areas.

If it’s not Asian cuisine you are after, you still have plenty of choices. Hit up Marcus Samuelsson’s Nashville-style chicken place, Street Bird, where you can get sandwiches, wings and even vegan Impossible “chicken” nuggets. Burgers? Burger Barn’s classics include all your fixings, and the Lucky Tiger burger includes toppings that will open your eyes. Blood Bros Texas Barbecue offers all the classics. Michos Tacos gives you the option of a combo plate and agua frescas (nachos, too). Han’s Fish & Chips offer two types of fish filets plus fries. Plus, Salad Jack’s has some truly delicious, super-fresh greenery. For Mediterranean staples like falafel and hummus, try Yaya’s.

Two central stands offer cocktails and desserts—Famous Foods Center Bar has self-pour and automated beer taps, while Sweet Eats sports candy apples and much more. And what would dinner be without bubble tea? Tiger Sugar will have you all pepped up with such drinks as the Black Sugar Milk Tea. If you can’t find something in Famous Foods Street Eats, walk to the next stall. There’s surely something there. –Nina King

Her Big Success Is No Illusion

Family-friendly magician continues to astound

There aren’t many more family-friendly shows in Las Vegas than The Magic of Jen Kramer. Eschewing the larger-than-life productions of contemporaries like David Copperfield and Criss Angel, this ultra-personable performer fills her show with simple but unbelievable illusions, most of them involving audience members whose amazed faces are practically worth the price of admission.

She’s staking a claim to being one of the city’s premier magicians over the last six years, eclipsing the 500-performance mark a few years ago and this year announcing the extension of her successful Westgate Las Vegas production. She has also appeared on everything from Penn & Teller: Fool Us and Masters of Illusion to NBC’s Today, and when she’s not performing in town she’s spreading the joy of magic to other countries, as illustrated in a touching video she shares with all of her audiences.

Her show itself is an ever-evolving carousel of some of Kramer’s greatest hits, including:

• Two wine glasses, two sets of cards and a “magic scarf” (cue the “oohs” and “aahs” Kramer has the audience say as she displays it) that helps create an instantaneous transformation;

• Four different, distinct-tasting drinks, a blindfold, a lemon slice and an audience volunteer’s taste buds;

• Three beach balls, a fake Facebook profile and a box that hangs from the ceiling. (For those who think magicians use plants, heads up: Yours truly got picked for this, and speaking as a non-plant, I was completely floored by the result.) –Ken Miller

It’s Bun-tastic!

Celebrity chef’s latest outpost has plenty of delicious options for burger fans, but there’s surprises as well

The Gordon Ramsay restaurant empire in Las Vegas continues to expand with the opening of the celebrity chef’s seventh location on the Las Vegas Strip: Gordon Ramsay Burger at Flamingo. And while you might expect a significantly heightened burger experience here, that’s just the beginning, as Ramsay has added several pleasant surprises to an already strong menu.

The 12,000-square-foot space, designed by DEZMOTIF Studios and featuring a large exhibition kitchen (similar to Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen at Caesars Palace), Gordon Ramsay Burger serves up some of the most delicious sandwiches on the Strip. If you want to stick with the basics, the Backyard Burger features American cheese, butter lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and red onions, but for the more adventurous, the Southwest Burger (a specialty item) will delight your taste buds with an asada-marinated beef patty, asadero cheese, cilantro, avocado, citrus aioli and butter lettuce.

For a change of pace, other specialties include the Idiot Burger, which uses braised short rib as its meat, Gruyère and cheddar cheese, roasted mushrooms and a spicy tomato chutney, while

the Cluck Yeah GFC Sandwich smothers its fried chicken with red cabbage slaw, pickled red onions and cilantro on a brioche bun.

And get ready for a real treat! Brunch fans will be delighted to find out that Gordon Ramsay Burger serves an all-day version, with meals like the Benedict Burger, where hollandaise sauce and a fried egg accompany a pork patty, Canadian bacon and baby spinach, and the Full English Breakfast Burger, featuring an English banger patty, bacon, mushrooms, a fried egg, roasted tomato, HP sauce and baked beans.

Don’t forget a delicious beverage to wash all this down! The signature Pink Drink is crisp and satisfying with champagne, Absolut vodka, cassis, raspberry gomme and a lemon twist, while the Bloody Blonde is a perfect brunch drink with yellow tomato, vodka, pepperettes and mozzarella balls.

And the desserts here are all worth your time, especially the Sticky Toffee Waffle, a clever twist on Ramsay’s classic stick toffee pudding, served with toasted pecans and vanilla ice cream. –Ken Miller

Something for Everyone

Play all kinds of games while you imbibe at this combo destination

Strip hotels are full of bars and lounges, each with their own unique spin and offerings. One of the newest, and easily one of the most enjoyable to date, is The Cove Bar & Arcade at Treasure Island, an all-in-one destination directly across from the Mystère theater that not only features great cocktails and sports viewing, but some of your arcade favorites. There’s no end to the fun to be had at this 7,367-square-foot space. Bring the kids (all children under 14 must

be accompanied by an adult) to enjoy simulations of golf, soccer, football, baseball, basketball, hockey, rugby, lacrosse and much more, as well as virtual reality games like King Kong of Skull Island. There’s also air hockey, claw machines, champion shuffleboard, Jet Pong (arcade-style beer pong), foosball and classic arcade games like Pac-Man’s Pixel Bash

Perhaps the biggest draw here is duckpin bowling. If you’ve never tried this

alternative to classic bowling, it’s a very challenging variation, with shorter, lighter pins, meaning strikes are more difficult.

Add in 19 high-definition televisions, eight video poker stations and a great beer and cocktail menu and you’ve basically found your new party headquarters. However, fair warning: Once you enter, you may never want to leave. –Ken Miller Treasure Island.

Timeless Appeal

Band’s influence expands far beyond its 1960s roots

When Gary Lewis, John R. West, David Walker, David Costell and Allan Ramsay auditioned for a gig at Disneyland in the mid-’60s, they couldn’t possibly have imagined the impact they would go on to have on the music of that decade—and far beyond. But Gary Lewis & The Playboys was an instant hit with audiences in Anaheim, and word of its sound quickly spread. Once it became known that the leader was the son of Jerry Lewis, Gary Lewis & The Playboys was born, and so were a string of hit singles

that have audiences buying tickets to this day.

“This Diamond Ring,” the band’s debut single that soared to No. 1 on Billboard ’s Hot 100 in 1965, was only the beginning, and while its members alternated throughout the years, the hits continued. Even though the band broke up in 1970, the impact of its ’60s music has only expanded its legion of fans.

When you hear singles like “Count Me In,” “Save Your Heart for Me,” “Everybody Loves a Clown,” “She’s

Just My Style,” “Sure Gonna Miss Her” and “Green Grass,” it’s not hard to understand why the group continues to successfully perform live, including this week in downtown Las Vegas.

Whether you were around during its heyday or you just know the band from oldies radio, this is a show you won’t want to miss. –Ken Miller

New mini golf course is a fun adults-only experience

Do like the Londoners do! Step inside an immersive world the Brits call “crazy golf,” basically mini golf courses mixed with cocktails, food and DJs. It’s a party on the course, of course! The newly opened Swingers comes from the minds of Londoners Jeremy Simmonds and Matt Grech-Smith. The duo opened the first location in London in 2016 and expanded to the U.S. in 2021

with spots including Washington D.C., Manhattan, and now Las Vegas.

“Las Vegas is the Entertainment Capital of the World and it’s been a long-held ambition to open Swingers here,” said Grech-Smith. “It seems to fit the scene perfectly as increasingly people are looking for fun experiences that go beyond just eating and drinking (and gambling). We have opened our

flagship location in Las Vegas—our best venue yet—and Las Vegas visitors have been enjoying making it a fun part of their day or night out on the Strip.”

The entire venue immerses guests in the English countryside. Multiple levels hold multiple ways to have fun. Four golf courses share two different levels. The nine-hole courses complete with grassy hills, Ferris wheels and

General manager provides that old-school Vegas experience

Think of a slick, old-school Las Vegas steakhouse and a manager that fits that vibe perfectly. Welcome to Phil’s Steak House at Treasure Island, run by general manager Sal Cavalcante.

Cavalcante is one of those managers that makes a memorable impression; he puts his staff and guests first, and he’s not afraid to crack a joke or two. “You gotta like what you’re doing, you gotta like people,” says the Brooklyn native. “It’s about making someone happy, making

our guests’ time here happy. Also make the environment for your staff a good place to work and give your staff the tools they need to succeed. I hope my staff thinks I’m cool.”

Cavalcante has been “cool” for decades. He spent many years in Florida managing a nightclub and restaurants before moving to Las Vegas and spending more than a decade working for Caesars Entertainment at properties like Paris Las Vegas, Rio Las Vegas and Bally’s. “You

Orla channels bold Mediterranean tastes

When you enter Orla at Mandalay Bay, it looks like you are stepping into a Greek restaurant, with its shaded patio studded with mosaics and trees shading diners. You’ll find plenty of Greek-style

And that’s to be expected, because, as chef and owner Michael Mina explains, there is a lot of crossover between Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. And he should know. The Egyptian-born chef grew up in Washington state, but all those flavors were present daily, with his mother’s cooking imbuing his house with magnificent flavors and fragrances. “Much of the food I ate was Greek, or was crossover, somewhere between

Greek and Egyptian,” he says. “The food is very, very bold. It’s high acid, high sweet, high spice, high fat—Middle Eastern food has a ton of flavor in it, right? With all those spices and everything else. So that’s really what trained my palate growing up.”

That experience made Orla a very special project for Mina, allowing the classically trained, Culinary Institute of America graduate who has built an empire of restaurants with many di erent styles of food, to bring some of that exquisite flavor to his guests.

In Orla, you’ll find a preponderance of seafood and those aforementioned flavors, with appetizers like marinated big eye tuna, dust-

ed with urfa (a Turkish chili) and served with falafel, hamachi crudo with chili crunch, charcoal-grilled octopus, prawns wrapped in kataifi (made with shredded phyllo dough) and whipped chickpea hummus. Pan-fried saganaki is something incredible, here with roasted wild mushrooms, honey and Greek brandy.

You may want a cocktail or wine along with those mezze dishes, like the Rio Spritz, made with Aperol, elderflower, passion fruit prosecco and Fever-Tree soda, given a bit of drama as it’s decanted from a porron. The wine list draws from all over the world, stretching from California to Italy and all points between and beyond.

Coming in strong on the entrées is the kebab platter for two, with filet mignon, kofta and chicken dolmas, plus tangerine labneh and smoked eggplant dip with pita. The spice-rubbed New York striploin comes with matbucha, a North African tomato condiment with plenty of garlic and chili peppers. Tomato ginger-glazed salmon, oven-roasted red snapper and chargrilled whole branzino join black harissa-grilled lamb chops with an aromatic fava bessara. You’ll also find a center-cut 8-ounce filet and roasted lemon chicken.

“This is not only the style of food that I love to eat, but also I love to cook … (take) those simple grilled fish, now you add great spices to it from the Middle East, and all of a sudden you have some really magical food.”

You’ll find desserts, too, like the Orla rice pudding, Egyptian mango tart and lemon olive oil semolina cake, which might be best paired with a good Turkish co ee. It might perk you up even more than the flavors you’ve just experienced.

Collective Soul continue to shine three decades after its breakthrough success

Collective Soul has played multinight engagements before, but never in Las Vegas. Fortunately it chose a venue, The Venetian Theatre, that’s been very

good to acts such as Styx, Chicago, and Earth, Wind & Fire. “We try to make it an annual thing where we play a January Vegas show,” says rhythm guitarist Dean Roland.

“This is our first multinight (series of shows), so we’re looking forward to it.”

Looking forward is something Collective Soul has always done, save for anniversary tours like last year’s celebration of three decades since the band struck pay dirt with sleeper single “Shine.” That tour was also in support of Here to Eternity, a 20-track double album recorded in Elvis Presley’s Palm Springs residence.

If there was a legacy rock act that qualifies as a working-man’s band, Collective Soul is it. Dean and older brother Ed Roland got the band back in action as soon as restrictions lifted and logged many miles on tours, both solo and with Hootie & the Blowfish. This year they join Our Lady Peace on the road to help that ’90s-originating act celebrate its 30th birthday.

“We always look at this as an opportunity we got 30 years ago. We love what we do,” says Roland. “We just try to stay active and appreciate the fact that we get to play music for a living.”

Music has been a blessing for the Roland brothers since they

8:30 p.m. Jan. 17-18, starting at $45 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

grew up in a household headed by a Baptist minister in an Atlanta suburb. Ed, older by eight years, attended Berklee College of Music and soaked up the sounds of then-popular bands such as The Cars before returning home and working at a recording studio.

It was there Ed slowly made a demo with scraps of audio tape cut from other bands’ sessions, a recording that would include “Shine.” The song made waves independently and was subsequently championed by Orlando rock station WJRR.

Ed needed a band, and his younger brother had learned guitar while he was away. Dean’s destiny was sealed, but the approach Collective Soul took and the values it upheld were instrumental in leading to a healthy historical trajectory through hits that would become classics such as “December” and “The World I Know.”

“We had our moments of being morons when we were younger, just doing rock ‘n’ roll stuff, but we always tried to respect the fact … to take it serious. We wanted a career.” says Roland. “We’ve never really been a band to do too much reflection, to look back on it, going forward, but this year is our 30th year, and we filmed a careerspanning documentary, pretty much wrapped up now, that will come out next year.”

That process did lead to reflection, especially when perusing archival footage.

Collective Soul very much lives in the present though, and plans to play with its setlists at the Venetian dates.

“We’ll mix it up, especially if we’re doing two nights,” says Roland. “Definitely don’t want to play the same set each night.”

Criss Angel MINDFREAK is a celebration of magic, life and dedication to craft

Is the future of magic in Criss Angel’s hands? And feet? Las Vegas’ master of the mystic arts is a pioneer who infused a hard rock attitude and presentation into a magic show, but his main passion as of late, apart from Criss Angel MINDFREAK and his family, has been mixed martial arts. Angel, who has been training with former UFC fighter Jake Ellenberger and boasts former champion Frank Mir as his coach, obtained his purple belt on his birthday in 2023.

He celebrated on that day with what has become an annual charity event, named for his cancer-surviving son. It’s no illusion that Johnny Christopher looks happy and healthy, with dark hair growing past his shoulders. He underwent treatment as Angel was preparing and rehearsing Criss Angel MINDFREAK, which only made the magician double down on being completely focused.

He was well enough to sing along to “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” at one of Kiss’ End of the Road Farewell Tour concerts at Madison Square Garden in early December, and has become effective as a spokesman for the Johnny Christopher Foundation. Angel, meanwhile, can apply his finely honed focus to MMA. His philosophy: Try to get 1 percent better every day.

That works as a way of life for a magician as well. Angel honed his craft for years with the fervor of an aspiring rock star. He would have been fine being an actual rock star, but magic set him apart from the hordes of bands fighting for success like crabs crawling over each other to escape the bucket.

He conquered television with Mindfreak, then moved his operations from New York to Las Vegas like the Corleone family did in The Godfather. The lure of being a Vegas headliner was an offer he couldn’t refuse, and Angel began his embryonic journey at Luxor in a show produced in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil.

Criss Angel Believe was the prelude to Criss Angel MINDFREAK, with Angel processing everything he learned, refining his act into the personification of his magical spirit. The sound and video systems were as technically cutting edge as possible. A repertoire of tricks was developed to the point of being majestic miracles.

He already throws an MMA move or two into his shows, but don’t be surprised if Angel becomes a mixed martial magician for his next act. The possibilities must be dancing in his head already, but in the meantime Criss Angel fans can settle for his podcast, Talking Junkies

Mir and Ellenberger have already been guests backstage at Criss Angel MINDFREAK, where episodes are recorded and friends such as Flavor Flav, Keith Urban, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Paul Stanley and Mix Master Mike from The Beastie Boys have been guests.

But perhaps Angel’s favorite future guest might be his mother, Dimitra Sarantakos, who attended his Dec. 22, 2023 show at age 88. She’s living the longevity that Angel can expect in his career, and his son can hope to expect with the magic of a father’s love.

Fantasy variety show meets risqué reality at Cirque du Soleil’s Mad Apple

The Bronx is up, the Battery’s down, and on the Las Vegas Strip there’s a hotel and casino that pays homage with a replicated skyline and a world-renowned roller coaster winding through it in tribute to Coney Island. The energy of Manhattan and surrounding boroughs, however, is best captured within New York-New York at Cirque du Soleil’s Mad Apple, a next-level variety show aimed at adults.

This Mad Apple opens 30 minutes before the show begins so audience members can mix and mingle with cast members at bars—one along the front of the stage, one onstage for VIPs— that create a nightclub atmosphere while serving as part of the set design.

sive. We’re not trying to be crude.”

Nightclubs in New York don’t usually provide mixed drinks in souvenir flasks or span eras in music from Gershwin to Lady Gaga. Under the auspices of music director Xharlie Black, live music is a prime factor in Mad Apple’s formula. From the singers lifting their voices to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland” and McFadden & Whitehead’s “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now” to the funky drumming and bandleader

While Mad Apple favors risqué over raunchy, there’s good reason for requiring guests to be 18 and up. “It’s meant for adult audiences,” says Tomcik. “We have the bar scene, the club scene. Cirque o ers a lot of shows if you have a family, but Mad Apple is more of a party vibe. … We’re not trying to be o en-

Mad Apple also has a host of acts from basketball acrobats to hand balancers to hair-raising aerialists. The feats of agility, strength and coordination are as intriguing and suspenseful to modern audiences as old-school vaudeville was to New Yorkers of earlier ages. Times change, but appetites for being dazzled by superhuman stunts and mastery of body movement, such as the rubbery contortions of Captain Frodo who joins the cast for a stretch beginning in May, remain the same.

JF Blais playing the iconic clarinet opening to “Rhapsody in Blue,” the sounds of the show place patrons in a New York state of mind.

While dancing and general enthusiasm are not mandatory, they are encouraged and enhance Mad Apple, so don’t hesitate to heed the call to get up and dance. And you don’t have to fear becoming a target for boundary-testing humor as emcees make the rounds; Mad Apple’s comedians are expert at singling out people who won’t have of of mind.

When the sun goes down, go where the industry folks go

Who better to tell you how and where to enjoy the city once the sun goes down than the people that help run it? We’ve gathered some great recommendations—dining, drinking, entertainment and more— from people in the know to help put Las Vegas visitors in the know.

“I love going to because it’s perfect for a romantic night out. The venue itself is upscale, vibrant, and intimate dining with a party vibe. They serve modern Asian cuisine and have some of my favorite specialty cocktails, including the Heart of Fire. … When it comes to the menu, be sure to try the crispy tuna and wagyu beef pot stickers.”

–Brittany Ashton, bartender at Ayu Dayclub at Resorts World Las Vegas

“ inside the Encore stands out for several reasons that contribute to its exceptional reputation: the unbelievable Mexican food, the fresh margaritas, the lively ambience, and the exceptional service. It is a must-visit when family and friends are in town.”

–Alexis Warren, VIP services manager at Legacy Club and Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino

“ at Park MGM is one of my go-to spots for a late-night experience in Vegas. When you first walk in, it gives o this cool speakeasy vibe because the restaurant is tucked behind a throwback classic Korean convenience store, adding a sense of mystery and fun before you even sit down. Once inside, the vibrant, party-like space blends Korean flavors with L.A. street culture, creating an atmosphere that feels both casual and upscale. My personal favorites are the short rib tacos and the medjool date cake with sticky to ee and caramel ice cream.”

–Tricia Alorro, cocktail server at Easy’s Cocktail Lounge at Aria

“I love to stop by at Park MGM after a show. The craft cocktails are unique and delicious, and the music is incredible, which, as a professional dancer, is a must for me. It is a beautiful place to grab a drink while listening to a fabulous DJ. My favorite is the lavender lemonade—it is as delicious as it is beautiful, and it even has edible glitter in it!”

–Ashton Bray, performance director and dancer in Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease at Luxor

“I love to visit at Park MGM. It is a stunning, library-themed restaurant that is perfect for date night or a cozy gathering with friends. The cuisine is amazing; you can enjoy tableside favorites such as tuna tartare or baked Alaska. I love the ginger mocktail, but this can easily be made into a cocktail, and you cannot leave without having the Mohave honey dessert.”

–Joni Torres, director of spa services at Golden Nugget

“ is a fantastic spot for Korean barbecue, o ering a wide variety of options. They also serve a massive tomahawk steak that’s perfect for sharing with friends. The appetizers are definitely worth trying—my friends and I always make sure to order them, as each one is uniquely delicious.”

–Kurt Sanchez, jumpmaster at SkyJump at The STRAT

“My favorite dive bars after long workdays are for a quick smash burger and tater tots. … It o ers great people-watch- ing and karaoke. I also frequent , which I’ve been visiting since I moved to Vegas. For late-night eats, I love ’s half-o special after 11 p.m.; and to satisfy my late-night pho craving, I head to or .”

–Nicole Brisson, chef at Brezza at Resorts World Las Vegas

“ —it’s a call back to Elvis meets Trader Vic’s meets island vibes. … They take their drinks to the next level with exotic ingredients and a ton of ‘flare’ including flaming lime wheels and flaming cocktails made with highproof rum. You must get there in the wee hours of the night, it really doesn’t start to ramp up until after 1 a.m. or later.

There is often a wild, live band playing an array of genres from surf classics to emo. My go-to cocktail is the Navy Grog, a masterful blend of three di erent kinds of rums with grapefruit and lime juice.”

“My favorite place in town would definitely be the original o Spring Mountain. It is the best combination of dive bar meets cocktail bar. Whether you’re in the mood for a craft beer and a shot or you want to class it up with a Bees Knees, this place has you covered. As a New Yorker, I will also say they have the best bar-style pizzas in town. The vibe is classy, and there is live music every night.”

–Pete Miceli, bartender at Bar Prohibition! at Golden Gate

“If I were to choose any one spot to grab a drink after work, without hesitation, it would be the o of Spring Mountain. It is a staple watering hole amongst the food and beverage crowd. I have spent many a night (and into the morning) hanging with friends and colleagues here. They have an amazing cocktail program and beer list, live music, pool and pizza!”

–Destyn Hamada, general manager at Brezza at Resorts World Las Vegas

. A great cocktail menu, great mixologists. The best part is they do an af- ter-hours happy hour after midnight that features their whole menu, including their amazing steaks!”

–Alvin Smith, bartender at Velvet Bar at Westgate Las Vegas

“A favorite late-night, go-to place would have to be . It’s definitely a great place to go for late-night dining!”

–Buck Hewlett, pilot at Maverick Helicopters

“ in the Arts District. My experi- ence there was great; the bartenders were super nice and full of personality. The atmosphere is really cool and laid-back but fun and upbeat. I love all the art and décor. The cocktail and beverage menu is awe- some, and I love the tropical vibe of their drinks.”

–Lindsay Palumbo, bartender at Overhang Bar at Circa Resort & Casino

“Located in the dynamic Downtown Las Vegas Arts District, the is a must-visit venue and has become a favorite datenight spot for my wife and I. Since the theater opened in 2016, Troy Heard and his team have gone from strength to strength with versions of established classics such as Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Inherit the Wind paired with original productions like Dismayland and the viral hit musical parody Scream’d.”

Colin Cloud brings his mind-melting intuition to Las Vegas

So Shin and I, we’ve been here for five years; the anniversary has just passed. But with my own show, I had performed solo at the Edinburgh festival since I was 18 years old and always loved the challenge of writing my own event and sharing that with people. As much as I love being with Shin, having been here and fallen in love with the city—and this city feels like Edinburgh festival but 365 days of the year—to be able to then have that opportunity, that platform to be able to share the best of all my work, I just felt like now was the time. It’s one thing to be a skilled mentalist, it’s a completely can pretend to be older and be more confident, no one knows who I am. I got into stand-up comedy because I realized comedians are really good at being Sherlock Holmes in that they observe the world differently. I think the No. 1 human fear is public speaking, but they are able to be relaxed, share that view of the world, but they’re also able to pick up things for real in that environment, and I thought, “This is amazing,” and I realized the only way to learn that skill was to go actually do stand-up comedy and force myself. Having been here for five years, you’re basically a local at this point. What’s your favorite local spot? I love the Arts District. I only really discovered it when I moved more to that (area)... You know, Esther’s Kitchen, Makers & Finders, Cornish Pasty Co. It feels like this little hub away from the Strip, the intensity of the Strip, that just feels like a more local, chill hangout area and, as an introvert at heart, I just love how much calmer it feels compared to the lights, the noise, the glitz and glamour of the strip. What made the Harrah’s Cabaret the perfect room for you? When I do test shows, it’s usually

Mentalist Colin Cloud, who refers to himself as “the real-life Sherlock Holmes,” has been on the Vegas stage as illusionist Shin Lim’s right-hand man at The Mirage for more than five years, but now has a show of his own, Colin Cloud: Mastermind , at Harrah’s Las Vegas.

You’ve been in Vegas with Shin Lim for a while. What pushed you to finally create your own show?

100-seater rooms and I turn up there and I love the connection I have with everyone. By the end it feels like you know each other. Everyone leaves having created this thing together, so I didn’t want to lose that … The layout of this room, the combination of cabaret and comedy club vibe, it just kind of fi ts me perfectly, and I just thought if I’m going to come here and start my own Vegas career, I want it to be in this room.

other thing to command a room. Where does that ability come from?

As a kid I was very shy, reserved, introverted; hated, in class, having to stand up and speak. I hated it; I would be sick for days thinking about it and then I went to university quite young. I was 15 and I realized no one knows that. I
