JUNE 2022

FINANCE NOTICE BOARD – JUNE 2022

Hi All, Welcome to June’s Finance Notice Board. I hope everyone enjoyed the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend and the extra time off. It was great to see so many amazing events taking place across the Trust. Hopefully it gave everyone time to recharge batteries as it's been really busy in work.

The Time Out session we held on Monday 6 was great – im conscious not everyone was able to attend but we will be running more sessions throughout the year. There were a few key things that came from out of our Away Day in May that are super important. th

1. The importance of coming together as a team – the buzz in the room was fabulous 2. Making sure we take forward all the great ideas – there were so many and we can't lose that energy 3. Communication, communication , communication .

Each of our focus groups [valuemaker, wellbeing, EDI] will be taking forward lots of the actions (point 2) and if they don’t fit here we’ll make sure they are covered somewhere. Ill leave you with a pic from Monday… “string” answers on a postcard for Mo and Khuram’s efforts…. Thanks again for everyone’s hard work

Suzanne

Based on the session that we ran on the Finance Away Day there are lots of things that you all shared where we think we could improve. The Valuemakers group is a forum where we can come together to talk about positive change….. There is nothing stopping us from taking charge on these areas and coming up with some solutions to make our job’s easier, less stressful and more fun! So if you want to help shape the change, get in touch and join the group…. Some of the areas that came from the away day include……

FEEDBACK FROM COURSES/TRAINING ATTENDED

Name of Course: How to be an effective Business Partner in the remote world Organisation: FSD Would you recommend the course and why: Yes, this was a great 1 hour session with lots of hints and tips shared on the day to help to improve working relations. What learning did you take away from the course: Always have the camera on and in front of you during meetings (not side!) Be yourself! Set time to build relationships Create bespoke reports that are fit for purpose don’t use historic reports that nobody reads – and remember its all about the presentation! • Have action driven reports • Use the power of 3 • Influence via a conversation not via email! • • • •

FINANCE NOTICE BOARD SHADOWING A COLLEAGUE

Name: Julie Bill Who did you shadow?: Mo Khan and Phil Hayes Area within Finance: Management Accounts - Specialist Services and RIBS respectively What you learned: Specialist Services (SS) are, Adult Forensic Services incl. medium & low secure units – Edenfield. It is a real challenge to recruit to unqualified Nursing posts, the knock-on effect being the need to use Bank & Agency workers (Agency workers cost more £s due to Commission/Admin charges levied). Mental Health & Deafness - John Denmark Unit (JDU), this unit generates income by providing specialist services to in-patients, whose home-base is outside GM, these services are only available in a very small number of organisations nationally. Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) incl. J17, Gardner Unit, Griffin Ward, Bolton CAMHS - there are some issues recruiting to vacancies in Bolton. Health & Justice - we provide MH services in > 10 prisons, it is a real challenge to recruit to B5/B6 Nursing posts within the Prisons due to the added robust security checks required - it can take up to 9 months to complete the checks process, by which time the candidate may have secured alternative employment. GMMH recently won the contract to provide MH services to Children's’ Homes – well done to all involved! SS also provide Addictions Services incl. Alcohol addiction, Drug addiction & services to the Homeless. The Chapman Barker Unit (CBU) is a busy in-patient unit for alcohol addiction funded by income from external CCGs.

What you learned: RIBS are, Rehabilitation Division, the Rehabilitation Division aims to provide recovery focused support to enable service users to develop, enhance and sustain life skills and coping strategies which will enable the individual to achieve greater independence and quality of life. Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT), a service for adults experiencing a wide range of common mental health disorders. Bolton Division, services in Bolton incl. Community Mental Health Teams, Memory Assessment Services, Older Adult Community Teams, Rapid Response Team, Rivington Unit and Willow Outpatients Salford Division, services in Salford incl. Community Mental Health Teams, Early Intervention Services, Eating Disorder Services, Living Well services, Meadowbrook Unit, Memory Assessment Services, Older Adult Community Teams, Reach Beyond and Open Doors Project RIBS has significant financial pressures, affecting Medical Staffing budgets, linked to Agency premiums for Locums required to cover sickness, vacancies and junior doctor rotation gaps. In addition, levels of Bank spend are high across Inpatient services and levels of observations are also high, specifically within Older Adult Inpatient services within Salford and PICU within Bolton. Community and Urgent Care Services across Bolton and Salford are carrying many Nursing vacancies. We need to fully understand overspend drivers, how we may support and work jointly with services to address the drivers -> we need to ‘deep dive’ into the data sources available -> is there an increase in observations due to increased acuity? Is there a reconciliation between the No. of vacancies vs. the level of £s spend on temporary resources?

FINANCE NOTICE BOARD SHADOWING A COLLEAGUE Name: Julie Bill Who did you shadow?: Mo Khan and Phil Hayes Area within Finance: Management Accounts - Specialist Services and RIBS respectively What you learned: Going forward, under the new GMMH organisational structure, services are aligned to 1 of 4 Care Groups, as below:

Is there anything you would do differently in your own work now you have more of an understanding of this area, if so what?

Specialist Services Care Group, Adult Forensic Services (AFS) and John Denmark Unit (JDU) Division Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Division Health and Justice Division

The sessions re-ignited my passion to continue to promote good communication and joint working – to also continue to promote knowledge sharing and positive engagement with people both internal and external to the finance department.

Wigan and Bolton Care Group, Bolton Locality -> previously part of RIBS Wigan Locality Addictions Division -> previously part of Specialist Services

We have some fantastic people in our team, people with a raft of experience, different career backgrounds, knowledge of different processes, practices, procedures and some Great ideas of how to improve the service we provide -> these people are personification of Making Ideas Shine Brighter and the Added Value Programme.

Salford and Trafford Care Group Salford Locality -> previously part of RIBS Trafford Locality -> previously part of Trafford, Citywide & Manchester (TCM) Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Division (IAPT) -> previously part of RIBS Manchester Care Group North Manchester Locality Central/South Manchester Locality Rehab Division -> previously part of RIBS

I believe, it is vitally important to proactively nurture a culture of healthy development and knowledge-sharing. We all have a responsibility to place mental wellbeing at the centre of everything we do, plus to embrace and bring to life our GMMH shared values:

Thank you to both Mo and Phil for their respective time 
