Thank you for taking the time to guide and encourage the use of this booklet. The booklet was created as a means of disseminating information to students about standards to foster discussions within classrooms and to encourage further learning through an entertaining medium.
It is recommended that learning be integrated into the classrooms so that pupils are able to associate standards with their daily lives and routine.
The Booklet is also the Main source of information for pupils participation in GNBS Standards in Academic
Competition
We trust in the ability of our teachers to ensure that the message of standardization is promoted, while still encouraging learning and discussions.
Part 1
The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) was established in March of the year, 1984. The National Standards Body began offering its services in march 1985.
The GNBS Head Office is located at Flat 15, Sophia Exhibition Complex, Sophia, Greater Georgetown (Region 4).
BACKGROUND
There are four branch offices. They are located in: Region 2- Anna Regina Region 3- Vreed-en-Hoop Region 6- New Amsterdam Region 6- Corriverton Region 7- Bartica Region 8- Bartica Region 9- Lethem
It is governed by a National Standards Council, whose members are appointed by the subject Minister i.e. Minister of Business.
The Guyana National Bureau of Standards is a semi- autonomous agency which falls under the Ministry of Business. This means the organization acts independently to some degree.
