The obesity rate in Georgia is between 30 – 35%

Only 2 states rate higher in obesity than Georgia: WV and Miss. 

Medical cost of obesity in US $147 billion in 2008

Obesity higher among middle age adults 40-59

25% of US adults eat recommended 5 or more servings of fruit and vegetables

Less than 25% of adolescents eat 5 or more servings of fruit and vegetables

More than 50% of adults do not get recommended amount of physical activity

More than 1/3 of young people grade 9-12 do not regularly engage in physical activity

Place time on your calendar everyday for yourself

Be selective in the activities you choose to place on your calendar

Learn to use the words “yes” and “no’ wisely

Use the four-count breath anywhere, anytime Close your eyes if possible Breath in through your nose to the count of four Exhale through your nose to the count of four Repeat for five breaths

Easy meditation: Take 100 breaths, count them and focus on them

Find an exercise that you can do consistently (to reduce emotional tension) Yoga, karate, walking, swimming, tennis, dance, cycling, running etc.

Develop and sustain self-discipline by staying focused on your core values and goals

Seek help from others when difficulty arises

Maintain an open-mind

Take planned breaks every 60-90 minutes

Engage in self-reflection through daily journaling or take time to think about your core values and goals
