career). In June 2007, Mrs Jasmine Audemars, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Audemars Piguet, and Mr. GeorgesHenri Meylan, then CEO, laid the first stone of the new Manufacture des Forges in Le Brassus, the brand’s historical home. This ceremony marked the start of work on this new production facility designed in accordance with the criteria of the new Swiss MINERGIE-ECO® label, implemented for the first time in the conception of an industrial building. The new Manufacture des Forges meets the MINERGIE-ECO® standards which are expressed through enhanced user comfort and energy savings within a healthy and environment-friendly construction. The construction was also designed in such a way as to optimize the working areas while integrating a maximum of functional criteria. The production flow has therefore been organized by profession and by production stage. At the end of 2008, thanks to the commitment of the contracted companies and their teams, the first workshops were installed within this pleasant setting featuring modern architectural lines, resolutely geared towards the quality of working conditions and meeting optimal environment and energy-saving standards. In 2010, the former station will be torn down to make room for an open, welcoming and completely redesigned village entrance. The Manufacture des Forges embodies the brand values of tradition, excellence and audacity, associating concern for users’ well-being with technological innovations and respect for the environment.

Vacheron Constantin: AFRICAN AND OCEANIC ART FROM THE BARBIERMUELLER MUSEUM. The Metropolitan Museum of Art - New York

Vacheron Constantin organised an exceptional evening event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York as part of the inauguration of “African and Oceanic Art from the Barbier-Mueller Museum, Geneva: a Legacy of Collecting”, an exhibition dedicated to the masterpieces from the BarbierMueller family collection and supported by Vacheron Constantin. On this auspicious occasion (a first in the history of the New York museum), leading watchmakers - Vacheron Constantin - hosted 250 guests for a dinner in the splendid Temple of Dendur set beneath the museum’s huge glass roof looking out onto Central Park. The evening saw a world-first presentation of the 4 latest “Métiers d’Art Les Masques” creations, timepieces celebrating horological expertise and the tradition of Métiers d’art (artistic crafts) faithfully cultivated for over 250 years by the world’s oldest watch Manufacture.”

“Designing movements representing spectacular feats of miniaturization and developing cutting-edge technologies; creating a refined design and clothing it in innovative materials, precious metals and diamonds: such are the fundamentals of our profession. This savoir-faire goes hand in hand with our philosophy firmly based on three values: tradition, excellence and audacity. In 1875, two passionate young men of Haute Horlogerie, Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, met up and decided to unite their skills in order to produce watches with complex mechanisms in the Vallee de Joux, the region where high end watch making was born. Determination, imagination and discipline allow them to quickly obtain success. Around 1885, both associates install an office in Geneva and in 1889 they begin establishing some commercial relationships which lead them to the Paris World’s Fair where they present diverse and complicated pocket watches. With the passing of the years, the Audemars Piguet Manufacture prospered. Their creations marked the Haute Horlogerie history in brilliant ways with such examples as the first wristwatch with minute repeater in 1892, the first wristwatch with jumping hours in 1925 and the Equation of Time pocket watch in 1925 which became an emblem of the house. Across its history, the Manufacture has given priority to the creation of high quality pieces, but always continuing its tradition of innovation. In 1972, Audemars Piguet presented the Royal Oak, the first luxury sports watch produced in stainless steel, completely overturning the existing codes of Haute Horlogerie. Following in 1986 was the realization of the first ultraslim self-winding tourbillon watch which is still the slimmest in the world to this day and in 1995 they presented the first self-winding Grand Complication. Over the course of time, Audemars Piguet has become a pioneer in using unique materials: alacrite 602 and titanium for the Royal Oak Concept and forged carbon for the successful limited editions, Team Alinghi and Carbon Concept. Today, Audemars Piguet remains the world’s oldest manufacture of Haute Horlogerie never to have left control of its founding families. With the constant ambition to pass on the craftsmanship and experience bequeathed by its founders, the current directors invest in new innovative techniques, putting into practice its habitual philosophy of combining tradition, excellence and audacity. The legacy of Antoine Le Coultre to watch- making is unique: his inventive genius, his sense of perfection and the factory that founded in 1833. Only a man like himself could define the level of quality to use in his creations today. After joining with Edward Jaeger in 1925, Jaeger Le Coultre continued having as a flagship, the love for a job well done and an insatiable scientific curiosity that could be seen in his beautiful and complicated watch pieces that are born in the workshop in the valley of Joux (Swiss). There, all the watch pieces Jaeger Le Coultre even the smallest screws are made with much detail to guarantee a legendary long lasting endurance. The history of time in the Jaeger Le Coultre brand, which is distributed in our country by: Tiempo Global, has been ornamented by very exclusive watches like the: Reverse, which represents 60% of the amount of businesses of the company and tends to incline on the models Duoface, Day-date, GT, Duetto, Florale and Reveil. The idea of these watches was born in 1930, upon the desire of some British officials to have a watch capable to resist the violence of a complete Polo match, keeping a gentleman distinction. A

IWC (International Watch Company) was founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones. The American engineer and watchmaker had been the director and manager of the E. Howard Watch and Clock Co. in Boston, then became a leading American watchmaker. His ambition led him to move from Boston to Switzerland, where he planned to combine the outstanding craftsmanship of the Swiss with American modern engineering and his own pioneering spirit to manufacture high quality watches for the American market. And so, in 1868, F.A. Jones founded his watch factory: the IWC International Watch Co. To this day, IWC has been globally recognized as one of the best luxury watch brands, continuing to amaze the public eye with innovative novelties each year. Amongst it product family lines that have formed over time, we have the Portuguese, Pilot, DaVinci, Ingenieur, Aquatimer, Portofino and Vintage lines.

Piaget above all represents the art of capturing time so that it can be measured in hours, minutes and seconds. It started in 1874, when the company’s founder, Georges Edouard Piaget produced his first horological movements. Two generations later, the company pioneered ultra-thin wristwatches with the remarkable 9P hand-wound movement, followed in 1960 by its self-windding counterpart, the 2.3-millimetre thick Calibre 12P. The 12P earned Piaget an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as the creator of the world’s thinnest watch movement. The brand continues to claim unchallenged expertise in thin mechanical movements. The new generation of 12-ligne (26.8 mm diameter) calibres, the 800P series, bears this out. In keeping with its eventful past, Piaget has been extraordinarily industrious these past 10 years in the development of mechanical movements, producing no fewer than 19 different calibres. Not many of the top luxury-watch brands can claim such creative output. The Piaget manufacturing company has also been investing massively in its two production sites in Plan-les-Ouates, Canton Geneva, and La Côteaux-Fées, Canton Neuchâtel, deploying human resources and capital equipment to implement the company’s manufacturing strategy. Every mechanical timepiece signed Piaget made today has a proprietary movement. Mechanical movements, as repositories of patiently acquired skills, signify watchmaking at its finest. They are now fitted into almost every man’s watch and in a growing number of Piaget’s ladies’ collections as well. Also on the increase is the range of complicated mechanisms coming within the company’s watchmaking capabilities, including flying tourbillons, retrograde perpetual calendars or instant-restart chronographs. As much devotion goes into the appearance of its watches as into their technical features. Piaget can also claim substantial expertise in the most arcane of decorative techniques, such as enamel work, miniature painting, and engine-turned and hand engravings. The unmatched finish of its watch components proclaims that each has been manufactured with the utmost care. A

Although it started out as a watchmaking concern, Piaget turned towards jewellery production in the 1960s. It quickly made a name for itself with audacious creations that combined both disciplines. As with watchmaking, Piaget can draw on the skills of its own craftsmen and women, who make the necklaces, earrings, finger rings or jewellery watches that have become renowned for their original designs and fine workmanship. Piaget’s creative resources also substantiate its brand image, where creativity is the principal value. Every year the manufacturing company produces a new complete jewellery collection on a different theme. The only requirement being quality, the annual collections give free rein to the artistic imagination.
