Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

Deer Valley® Music Festival Eleven years ago the Utah Symphony orchestra decided to make Deer Valley® its summer home not only because it’s a world class ski resort, but it’s a perfect venue for music that lives up to the grandeur of its surroundings.
Before heading to the festival, spend time in Park City to escape the city heat. This charming resort town has near-panoramic mountain views, art galleries, unique shops, superb restaurants, and amazing variety of outdoor activities.
This years festival features guest artists Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Smokey Robinson along with classics like the explosive 1812 Overture with live cannon fire and Disney’s Fantasia.
Plan a day or two for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, fly-fishing, hot-air ballooning, or bobsledding at the Utah Olympic Park. After your exhausting recreational activities you’ll be ready to settle down,

Wanderlust Festivals If you’re looking for a retreat to help you reconnect with yourself, friends or family, try this outdoor multi-day yoga and music festival. Wanderlust festivals are held in some of the most beautiful mountain settings in the country. Attend yoga classes taught by worldrenowned teachers (from beginners to advanced) and explore the outdoors on a guided adventure from hiking, trail running, biking or mountain top meditations. Wanderlust Festival began near Lake Tahoe, California in 2009, founded by music industry duo Jeff Krasno and Sean Hoess after they intertwined with the yoga community. It’s momentum is catching and many people attend as a “yearly investment in self care”. It’s truly an investment with a 4-day pass costing around $500 (not including accommodations and food).
The music at the festival features a variety of performances on stage, in yoga classes, and on a mountain top mediations. And if you’re musically inclined you can participate in drumming, strumming the guitar, and attending music workshops.
Where & When Wanderlust is spending four days each in Snowmass Village, CO (JULY 16 - 19, 2015); North Lake Tahoe, CA (JULY 30 - AUGUST 3, 2015); Whistler, BC, CA (AUGUST 20 - 23, 2015) Ticket Prices: Variety of ticket packages available from 4-day passes ($500) to 1-day pass ($95)

Why you and your kids should wear
sunglasses By Ashli Nudd

Wear Sunglasses • Go Adventure Magazine • Summer 2015
Sunglasses are not just a cute fashion accessory anymore, they are vital to protecting the health of your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. Most of us don’t realize that our eyes can be affected by the sun just as much as our skin can. I am pale and fair-skinned so I always notice when I get a sunburn...but I have never given much thought to my eyes.
What are the dangers of forgetting to protect our eyes from the sun? 1: Sunburned Eyes - this can cause irritation, redness, and swelling. 2: Cataracts - this causes the lens of your eye to become opaque, making your vision blurry. 3: Macular Degeneration - this is when a part of your eye deteriorates, causing you to become blind. Macular Degeneration is considered to be an incurable disease.
Do my kids really need to be wearing sunglasses? The answer is a resounding YES!!! Kids are actually exposed to 3 times more UV than adults, and their developing eyes are more vulnerable to the sun’s rays. Choose sunglasses designed specifically for children, and be sure to lead by example. So go ahead, and rock those sunglasses! You will be doing your eyes a huge favor. Together with The Vision Council, we are trying to spread the word about this very important issue. As a thank you from them, I was gifted a pair of Tommy Bahama UVA/UVB protective sunglasses and was also gifted a pair of sunglasses for my child. Please visit The Vision Council’s website for more important information about your eyes.
goadventuremom.com
Three myths about sunglasses 1: All Sunglasses Have UVA and UVB Protection - many lenses do not block out all of the sun’s harmful rays, which is why it is vital to purchase sunglasses from a trusted source. Be sure that your lenses have a sticker that states they are UVA and UVB protective. 2: Sunglasses With UV Protection Are Expensive getting the right protection can be very affordable and can be found at most reputable retailers. 3: The Darker the Lense, the Stronger the Protection - actually darkness has nothing to do with UV protection. In fact, if your lenses are dark but do not block out the UV rays, you can be doing more damage to your eyes than if you weren’t wearing sunglasses at all! >>> Sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection are your best defense against sun-related eye conditions! Not just any sunglasses will do the trick. Most people choose sunglasses based on style, comfort, or price....not based on sun protection. Many companies create sunglasses that just tint the lenses, not protect you from UVA/UVB rays. There is a difference!

OSPRETY HYDRAJET FOR KIDS
I don’t know about my readers but here in my state it seemed like the long winter would never end but boy, was I ever ready for it to! I was just plumb tired of the heavy jackets, sweaters, bulky pants and having to stay inside for months at a time. It was a nightmare and I hoped for spring every day that there was a gloomy sky and a chill in the air. When the weather started to warm up I was ecstatic! Just a little longer and my favorite season would be here: summer! Now, summer is in full swing and my family is ready to dive head first into summer with activities like trips to our local pool, bike rides to the neighborhood parks and hikes around town together. This gorgeous weather has each of
enjoying it to the fullest however in the true spirit of summer, it does get pretty hot and we often return home sweaty and looking for a cool drink to quench our thirst. It was for this reason, among many, that had me excited to have been offered the opportunity to work with Osprey to review their hydration products. Osprey is headquartered in Cortez, California and was founded by Mike Pfotenhauer. The Osprey mission is to create innovative high performance gear that reflects their love for adventure and devotion to the great outdoors. Situated on the corner of the San Juan Mountains and on the edge of the vast sandstone canyon country, the landscape provides the residents of the Cortez headquarters to draw from it’s beauty and use the surroundings for inspiration. For my review I was sent the Osprey Hydrajet. The Hydrajet Series is among the Osprey Hydration packs crafted especially for children. It includes a 1.5 Liter Hydraulics LT reservoir for on-the-go hydration so those long summer walks or hikes aren’t leaving your little one parched or feeling poorly during the trek. The Hydrajet pack is available in Red, Teal and Strawberry Red and includes: • Dual Stretch mesh side pockets for convenient and easy to reach storage. • External Reservoir sleeve. • Front Panel access to main
compartment. • Front Panel Bungee storage and compression. • Hydraulics LT 1.5L Reservoir Lightweight and easy to carry, the Hydrajet Hydration Pack from Osprey is a great investment if you and your family love the outdoors and plan to spend as much time as possible in it this summer! You can connect with Osprey on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube so you never miss a thing.

Yaffa Activewear:
Tennis Clothing Designed by a Woman for Women I’m coaching another 10 and Under tennis camp this summer. I love it. When I see the kids chasing down tennis balls, running drills, and improving everyday I feel motivated to teach the game I love. When I’m on the court for four hours in the heat of the day, I have to feel cool and comfortable. I have several go-to tennis outfits. The ones I like the most help me go from teaching tennis to lunch with friends to shopping (sometimes I don’t have time to change).
My new tennis outfit comes from Yaffa® Activewear. Designer Laura Preskin knows women want activewear to serve many purposes, to look flattering, and to be comfortable. And she accomplished her goals. The clothing is quite flattering and helps hide muffin tops and love handles. The pocket capri pants are comfy and ideal for carrying a tennis ball, keys, or phone. The tennis skirts and tops are high quality. The silky material

moves when I move and when it’s hot outside the material helps me stay cool. Yaffa® Activewear boasts versatility - my skirt, top and leggings serve on the court as well as running, hiking, and errands around town. Yaffa® Activewear packaging is charming. When I received my package in the mail it was fun to open because of it’s elegant, sporty design and each package comes with a message from designer Laura Preskin.

Why your kids should wear
HELMETS By Kathy Dalton
I
t seems harmless enough to allow your child to ride a bike or scooter without a helmet, but the truth is that there are dire consequences. Children should be as safe as possible when doing any sort of “activity” that requires movement on wheels. Check out some of these reasons as to why kids should be wearing a helmet. Helmets are Life Saving There have been many instances where wearing a helmet has saved a child’s life. Think about it, the head is the most fragile part of the body. When your child wears a helmet, the helmet is taking the brunt of the fall. There’s no doubt about the fact that wearing a helmet could be the factor that saves your child’s life. Protection from the Weather When kids are riding bikes, roller skating, or skate boarding the elements can really get to them. Wearing a helmet protects the head not only from injuries, but also from the hear elements. Sure, helmets can get a little hot, but so can a little sunburned head. Helmets Can Make a Child More Visible The right helmet can help traffic see your child in certain circumstances. Choose a bright colored helmet that helps your child be seen. Have fun having your child pick out a helmet that helps them feel safer while they’re out and about. Helmet safety is important to us, that’s why we’ve partnered with Bern Unlimited to share these tips with you.

Helmets Reduce the Risk of Fatal Injuries If an accident is bad enough, you can lose your life, which is why wearing a helmet, even while riding a bike is so important. While your child may feel in control while they are bike riding, they have no control over oncoming traffic. According to BicyleeHabit.com 88% of all cyclist brain injuries could be avoided by wearing a helmet. What are some reasons you encourage your kids to wear helmets?

Important Travel Lessons Every Child Must Learn By Kathy Dalton

Travel Lessons • Go Adventure Magazine • Summer 2015
As you take your child on all of these sightseeing adventures, you may wonder what your child is getting out of it. Hopefully they are learning a whole lot and getting the experience of a lifetime. I wanted to share some important travel lessons that every child must learn.
Travel is a privilege No child should feel bad about having the chance to travel, but they should understand that not everyone gets to participate in such awesome adventures. Teaching your child gratitude about the people and places they will see, as they travel, is important.
Respect is Important Children should also realize that not all people, cultures, and food are like theirs. It’s important to teach a child how to react to certain cultural situations with respect. For example: someone offers them a not so appetizing entree, give them the tools
and knowledge for them to know how to react. Respect is so very important when traveling.
Safety is a Concern While teaching your children about travel, it’s best to also talk to them about the importance of safety. Although someone may look friendly, it doesn’t mean they are safe. If your child gets separated from you, it’s imperative they have the skills necessary to get the help they need.
Take it All In While traveling is a privilege and there are a lot of bases to cover with your kids, it’s so important that your child takes

in the experience. Encourage them to write in a journal and take lots of pictures. Some day these travel experiences will help shape your child into the incredible human their meant to be. Traveling with your kids is quite the experience. The best thing you can do is to prepare your kids as much as you can for traveling, but also let them experience some of it on their own level. What are some important travel lessons your children have learned over the years?

Top 5 Family Friendly Things to Do in
San Diego, California by Mary Edwards
in our group was hauled in by a lifeguard because he was caught in a sink hole. This beach has bathrooms, showers and picnic areas. La Jolla Cove This is the best place for kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving. The water’s calm and ecologically protected. You can often see garibaldi, yellowtail, stingrays and leopard sharks. Only swimmers, snorkelers and scuba divers are allowed. One member of our group was so impressed by the leopard sharks he fell asleep thinking about them whirling around the sandy sea bottom. Lifeguards are on duty. This beach has bathrooms, showers and picnic areas.
San Diego was made for families, with yearround 70ish degree weather, miles and miles of beaches, public parks and museums. Here are some free and paid adventures for the entire family.
Coronado Beach This is the most lovely and well kept beach. However, there are no lifeguards on duty. The nearby hotel The Del will hire professionals to build beautiful sand castles. If you want a fancy and delicious all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet try The Del Hotel overlooking the beach. It’s on the pricey side, but if you’re a foodie it’s worth it. No public bathrooms.
1. Beaches (FREE) San Diego has dozens of beaches and most rent boogie boards, surfboards, snorkeling gear, kayaks, and bikes. They also have fire pits if you’re ambitious enough to bring food to cook.
La Jolla Shores This beach has wide, gently sloping sand and fewer waves because it’s protected in a cove. It’s a perfect spot to teach young children how to surf or use a boogie board. There are plenty of lifeguards on duty. One child
Children’s Pool Beach This was originally an area designated for children to swim safely, however, 20 years ago, seals and sea lions came here to bathe, bask in the sun and give birth. Now kids can have a great time watching these animals up close in the wild. Make sure to check out the tide pools during low tide for more creatures. Bathrooms and showers are available. 2. Balboa Park (FREE and Paid) This is without doubt one of the most popular parks in San Diego and the largest urban park in the United States. This gorgeous landmark is filled with Spanish architecture, 17 museums, 8

The Mission Beach boardwalk is the best bike beach cruising, roller skating/roller blading place. The beach also has several playgrounds and acres of grass to play sports or fly a kite. Lifeguards on duty. 5. San Diego Zoo ($48 Adults, $38 Kids) This world-famous zoo is a must-see if you can afford to visit. It’s beautiful with plenty of bathrooms, eateries, and bus tours. It’s incredible to see the panda and koala bears in person. Allow a full day to soak in everything there is to see.
gardens, walkways and trails, San Diego Zoo and many public events. Park for free and board a complimentary bus to tour the park. Then visit the free Timken Museum of Art which is considered one of the great small museums in the world. We paid to visit the Model Railroad Museum (Adults $10, kids 5 and under FREE) with its miniature lifelike layouts, the Cajon Pass, old time city trolleys and freight routes. The food options around the park tend to be expensive, so plan to pack a lunch. 3. USS Midway Museum ($20 Adults, $10 Kids, 5 and under FREE) Experience life at sea without leaving port aboard one of America’s longest-serving aircraft carriers. A self-guided audio
tour just for children kept their attention. Make sure to talk with on-site volunteer veterans to hear their personal stories aboard the ship. The flight deck was the main attraction. Those who dare can “take to the sky” aboard one of two flight simulators at additional cost ($8 per person). We planned to stay for a couple hours and ended up staying 5 hours. We ate lunch at the reasonably priced cafe. Plenty of clean restrooms. 4. Belmont Park and Mission Beach Belmont Park at the Mission Beach boardwalk features two restored landmarks: The Plunge - a large indoor swimming pool and The Giant Dipper - a restored, wooden roller coaster. Belmont Park has a carnival feel ($40 for 45 tickets) with typical rides, entertainment, and food (portions are huge). Clean bathrooms.

It’s the right size - not too big or too small. It holds the interest of kids and adults without taking the whole day. Take in a Professional Sport Game We went to the San Diego Padres baseball game.
