Lake Poso Wonder Shore-Crystal Water

The town of Tentena is located at the northern end, the town of Pendolo is situated at the southern end of the lake, while a number of smaller villages dot the shore line of the lake. The lake drains into the Poso River at Tentena, which flows into the Molucca Sea at the town of Poso.

The lake contains various fish, including the eel Anguila marmorata which migrates between the lake and the sea, and 11 fish that are endemic to the lake, notably Buntingi ricefish, Gobies, and the halfbeak. There is also a large number of endemic Tylomelania freshwater snail in the lake, as well as several endemic Caridina shrimps and Parathelphusid crabs.

LAKE POSO located on Poso City Is indonesia’s third largest lake, stretchied 32 km long and 16 km wide. Its depth reaches up to 450 m. At average elevation of 511,3 meter above sea level, its surface area covers 36.200 hectares.

The lake is solitary ancient lake of tectonic origin. Its water is crystal clear, with no trace no sulphur, and negligible sediments; as result of having 1754,7 km2 water catchment area of almost all virgin jungle. With an average discharge of 139,9 m3 per second, its energy potential is enormous. From October to April, the edge of the water is covered with white sand, giving it the impression of seashore.

A park containing wild orchids is located near the village Bancea on the lake. As well the forests surrounding the lake still provide rare sightings of anoa and the babirusa, a ruminant pig. These two endangered species are among a number of wildlife species found only on the island of Sulawesi.
