Chapter 44: The Basement

You enter the basement over a small staircase you did not see before.

It is colder than in the rest of the house. Like a wave of sound, you hear the clicking and stomping of hundreds of machines that worked already one thousand years ago.

The staircase ends on a big copper bridge that hovers over a sea of gears and metal pieces. The sound, which is now so loud nobody could hear you speak, is like a magic music, not of this world. You are pulled into it, every thought wiped away and… wait, stop!

But it’s too late!

You stumble one step forward, nothing is under your feet and…

You fall down.64
