• The Blue Raiders received an automatic invitation to the NCAA tournament after defeating Florida Atlantic 4-1 in the championship match of the Sun Belt Championships. It was the ninth appearance in the NCAA tournament for the Blue Raiders whose last postseason appearance was in 2006 after receiving an at-large bid. • The Blue Raiders ended the campaign ranked 57th as a team which is the highest they have been ranked at the end of a season since 2006 when the team was 33 in the final ITA rankings. • Robert McKenzie and John Peers also ended the season in the ITA rankings after posting impressive seasons. McKenzie and Peers were 96 and 101 respectively in singles and 33 as a doubles pair. Peers was also in the doubles ranking at 59 with teammate Victor Melo. • John Peers and Robert McKenzie also participated in the NCAA Individual Championships. McKenzie lost a three set battle to New Mexico’s Johnny Parkes in the first round of singles. McKenzie and Peers then paired up for doubles action. The two defeated the duo of Austen and Simon Childs of Louisville 7-6 (3), 6-4 to advance to the round of 16, avenging a regular season loss. McKenzie and Peers fell in the round of 16 but posted impressive performances in the tournament. • Robert McKenzie ended the 2009 season 21-2 and went 18-1 in dual matches while John Peers posted a 24-3 overall record and was 20-1 in dual matches. As a doubles pair, they were 10-2 and 9-1 in dual matches. • Morgan Richard and Victor Melo also performed well for the Blue Raiders throughout the season. Richard put the championship match away for Middle Tennessee to clinch the title with his 6-2, 7-5 win over FAU’s Joshua Scholl. Melo, hampered by injuries much of the season, had clutch victories for the Blue Raiders in big matches which included a singles win against No. 74 Old Dominion to help the team win the match.

All-Americans Paul Goebel 1994
Playing with Fred Niemeyer just seemed to bring out the best in teammates, and such was the case with Paul Goebel during his career at Middle Tennessee. Goebel put together a fabulous career as a Blue Raider. It was in doubles where Goebel and Niemeyer would become the first in the program’s history to earn All-America honors. The duo combined for an 18-5 record in doubles during the 1993-94 season and were ranked as high as fifth during the year. The tandem finished 15th in the final 1994 rankings, becoming the first players in school history to end a season with a national ranking.
Fred Niemeyer 1994, 1996-97
Considered the best tennis player in Middle Tennessee history, Niemeyer was dominant during his four years with the Blue Raiders, earning AllAmerica honors three times. Niemeyer’s first All-America honor came with Paul Goebel in doubles in 1994. In 1996, Niemeyer earned the honor in doubles alongside Anthony DeLuise. He is one of only two players in school history to become an All-American in singles, earning the honor in 1997 following a record season which saw him post a 36-8 record. He finished the year ranked fourth in the ITA National Rankings. Niemeyer holds the school record for wins in a season and career in both singles and doubles. His total combined wins (233) is 54 more than David McNamara, who stands second on the all-time career wins list. Niemeyer was the OVC Player of the Year three times and earned All-OVC honors all four years.
Anthony DeLuise 1996 Playing primarily with Fred Niemeyer, DeLuise had his finest year during the 1995-96 season, posting 43 wins in doubles. DeLuise and Niemeyer combined on a 29-4 record, helping the duo earn All-America honors. DeLuise’s 43 wins in doubles is second all-time to Niemeyer, who posted two more that same season. DeLuise was the co-OVC Player of the Year along with Niemeyer and was a two-time All-OVC selection, qualifying three times for the NCAA tournament, twice in doubles and once in singles. He ranks fifth on the all-time career wins list in doubles (75) and third in singles victories (90). DeLuise finished the 1996 and 1997 seasons ranked nationally in both singles and doubles, finishing the ’96 campaign tied for 10th in the nation in singles.

David McNamara 1998
Although David McNamara was only honored once as an All-American by winning the All-American Hardcourt Championships with Julius Robberts, he had one of the best careers any player has ever had at Middle Tennessee. McNamara and Robberts won the collegiate Grand Slam event and climbed to No. 2 in the nation, the highest ranking ever for any team or individual in school history. McNamara ranks second all-time in combined career wins (179) and is third in doubles wins (94) and fourth in singles victories (85). He and Robberts qualified for the NCAA Championships in 1997 and 1998, reaching the second round in 1998. McNamara ended the 1997 and 1998 seasons ranked nationally in both singles and doubles. His highest final ranking came in 1997 in doubles playing with Robberts at No. 13.
Julius Robberts 1998
While Fred Niemeyer may lay claim to being the best overall player in Middle Tennessee history, Julius Robberts has etched his name in Blue Raider lore as one of the top doubles players in school history. Teaming with McNamara in 1997, the duo ripped through the field at the All-American Hardcourt Championships, the second of the three collegiate Grand Slam events, to win the only national doubles title in the program’s history. Robberts and McNamara ended the season ranked No. 16. The following year they improved their final ranking to 13th in the nation, the highest final ranking ever for a Blue Raider doubles team. Robberts ranks No. 2 on the all-time wins list in doubles (95) behind Niemeyer. His 175 total career wins places him third behind Niemeyer and McNamara.
Daniel Klemetz 2002-03 Daniel Klemetz presently stands as the second-best player to ever don the blue and white at Middle Tennessee, behind only Fred Niemeyer. The Vanersborg, Sweden, native earned AllAmerica honors in singles his final two years as a Blue Raider, earning a Top 16 seed at the NCAA Singles Championships as a junior and then winning a pair of matches at the NCAA Championships as a senior. Klemetz also became the first Blue Raider to win a singles national title, claiming the 2002 AllAmerican Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn., and assuming the No. 1 ranking in the country. The lefthander also earned four straight All-
Conference singles selections, one in the OVC and the final three in the Sun Belt, and was also voted All-Conference in doubles his final two seasons. Klemetz was also the national recipient of the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sportsmanship and Leadership Award after his junior campaign. Klemetz ended his career second on the all-time singles and combined wins list behind Niemeyer, as well as sixth in doubles victories and fourth in singles winning percentage.
Andreas Siljestrom 2006, 2007 In 2006, Andreas Siljestrom teamed with Marco Born to make their second straight appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships, earning a 5-8 national seed in the 32-team field, automatically garnering All-America honors. Born-Siljestrom advanced to the semifinals of the tournament before falling. They were the first Blue Raider doubles All-Americans since McNamara-Robberts in 1998. The pair followed this success with Middle Tennessee’s first NCAA national title in 2007. In addition to the national title, the duo garnered All-America honors for the second consecutive year. In MT history, Siljestrom ranks first in career doubles wins (127) and fourth for career singles wins (89). He is second in combined career wins (216) and second in doubles winning percentage (.774). In 2007, he posted 38 doubles wins, putting him fourth on the single-season list.
Marco Born 2006, 2007 In 2006, Marco Born teamed with Andreas Siljestrom for a second straight appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships, automatically garnering All-America honors. The duo advanced to the semifinals of the tournament before falling to a top-ranked foe. They were only the second Blue Raider doubles All-Americans. Born went on to clinch the first NCAA doubles national title in school history in 2007. The win was followed up with All-America honors for the second consecutive season. Born ranks first in the record books for doubles winning percentage (.804). In 2007, he won 39 doubles matches, which puts him third on the single-season list for victories.
